Stay way back. Not so good Extremely overpriced with extremely small portions. I should have known as I arrived to a place with no customers inside or in the parking lot at 10pm on a Friday night. I've been coming to this restaurant for a while and recently their food has been bad. I ordered a few burgers and arrived because I got an alert that my order was ready. Upon arrival I find out that the they just got my order and there was a long list of orders ahead of me. There's one kid working and he's getting to do it all so I politely wait. After about 20 mins and I ask for an update. He rudely informs me that he is the only one working on a weekend when I can clearly see they're buys. If u have to wait it anti a big deal and I can calm down. After another 10m I get my food and I leave. I get home and the food is so poorly prepared. The fries suck a%#. Frozen and not even fried to a decent quality. You can taste the nasty shortening, which is no where as clean as In & Outs. If fries are a big part of your burger/fastfood meal, then I can see the lower ratings. Though I love a good fry with a good burger meal, it is not end all for me. The good is they have good onion rings and homemade potato chips. Both crisp as heck, but you still taste that shortening. But better these than nothing. Onto the reason on why I'm here. The burgers friggin' rock. The meat itself is "the" best tasting patties I've ever had (at the fast food level). Yes, better than In & Out. And that is because it is very fresh and natural tasting. No lingering off taste of fast food. It is pressed onto the grill and allowed to fry for a while before turning. It gets a brown crust. I do salt it a tad at the table, as I don't think they do much at the griddle. But when these patties are layered together (yes, don't ever get a single!), produces a juicy and beefy bite, that is just off the charts. Cheese is what-evs, fast food quality. More like a glue to hold my layers together if anything. Bun is okay, a notch above fast food level. But it isn't toasted, which is a damn shame, cuz that would elevate this 2 folds. A customizing feature that lets You Do You. I found my masterpiece, can you?! Fun Fact: In the first couple of visits, I always noticed a heavy presence of muslim/middle east customers. Noticeable native garb. I thought to myself, you don't really see this at other fast food spots. So third visit, I notice the same thing, so I asked the register person. "Do you serve halaal meat here?" And the answer was "yes". BINGO. Even though I did not see it in print anywhere. Also don't know, if the whole chain does it or just select ones. But I do know that halaal beef is very natural, which reinforces my taste buds, when it is telling me that it is the best fast food burger patty I've ever had. So for this visit the food was as good as always, but....... Let's start with walking in...We we're the only people in the place, there was one guy at the counter, chilling on his phone, the floor was 'sticky' and your shoes made noise as you walked, everyone who walked in behind us were exactly the same. It's right next to starbucks. The small restaurant has a wide selection of burgers and fries. I ordered the rodeo burger and added fries and onion rings. My girlfriend ordered the hot dog and customized her hot dog with mushrooms and Swiss cheese. The burger tasted very basic. The only flavoring came from the bbq sauce and the onion rings that were put into the burger. Burger King rodeo burgers are better. The rodeo burger was definitely not worth the $8. On the bright side, the little fast food place had a lot of seating available. I would rank this place between the habit and five guys. My family and I took a quick food stop here at Wayback during a long drive to San Lorenzo. Not the best decision we could've made. The food was okay as far as fast food goes. Not the best and not the worst, it was somewhere in between The Habit and Wendy's. What really killed it for us was the service. We stopped in around 9pm (they close at 10:30p online), and found it empty save for one poor employee with his earbuds on; all the chairs already up on the tables. We were in a rush and made the mistake of not checking to see if our order was correct, and ended up getting all of our orders wrong. This was disappointing for my sibling, who is VEGETARIAN and asked for a VEGGIE BURGER but received a HAMBURGER instead. This place was so not worth it. Burgers were plain, there wasn't anything great about it for a $7 burger. Fries weren't bad, they weren't the type to get soggy quickly either. Everything came out smaller (and less appetizing) than expected. One of the burgers was advertised in a large picture as having two patties, it was literally a patty folded in half. I get tricky marketing but c'mon that's messed up. We were a fairly large party of about 12 but there were no other customers and no one coming from the drive thru so service did still seem slow. In n out is close by and has MUCH better, fresh burgers for cheaper. If you want to customize flavors more, Five Guys at Pacific Commons is just a couple exits away. But if you want burgers of this quality, just go to McDonald's down the street and get 3 times as much for the price. Subway is right next door too. The burger is not that great, just a basic burger with the condiments, nothing special. The Chili Fries is what I am very disappointed in. The fries were not cooked all the way and the chili was cold, usually isn't the chili kind of warm, and the cheese was not melted all the way. I felt as if my fries were rushed and everything was just thrown on top. After we ordered (two make your own single burgers, one with a combo) the cook finally came out and started the burgers. Noticed the cook guy could not help other customers. The fries were NOT put on until the burgers were wrapped and ready. And we ordered to-go so we had to wait another 5 or so min for them...couldn't put them on while working on burgers?? Guess not. They also could have been cooked longer as while they were cooked they were NOT at all crispy. More like soggy and mushy. We kind of felt jipped as we only recieved a small tray of them and expected more (it resembled a small fry size). We ate maybe a couple all together cause they were inedible to us. Seeing the Wayback Burgers ad on Facebook made my boyfriend really excited. The images look super delectable, and like a tall and stacked burger! Unfortunately, good photography and lightning tricks weren't to blame- since none of the Burgers had the same ingredient content as the images! It was a bummer, but we had given them the benefit of the doubt. I ordered a vegetarian burger, while my boyfriend stuck with the standard original burger at Wayback. We ordered French fries to share, and a tall chocolate shake. I'm an avid milkshake fan, so I try to test them out at burger joints especially to see how they size up! The dining hall was particularly empty, but it was post lunch rush so we'd assume that was in play! It's a cute dining hall mimicking 50s 60s feel, and has a lot of neat art to look at while you're waiting! The food came out in 15 minutes upon ordering, and tasted pretty good. My burger was veggie based and was amazing with mustard! My boyfriend liked the proportion of the burger itself and said it tasted pretty okay, but he was disappointed overall- since he had expected more. The milkshake was very thin and watery, but the French fries were excellent and we had a HUGE plateful of those to share. :) Overall, I'd say Wayback Burgers is a neat place to drop by if you love good French fries and want something less mainstream and near Milpitas (McDonald's, Burger King, jack in the box, etc). However, mainstream would deliver much better results! Wayback Burgers was okay, but not somewhere we'd go to again due to the flavor and overall consensus. read more

I've always wondered about this place since it's so close to my work so I finally decided to try it. First, I did an online order. I ordered the Rodeo burger with added mushrooms and large fries. The website said, it will be ready in 15 minutes. I decided to leave exactly at 15 minutes, and about a 5 minute drive to the restaurant. My order wasn't ready and had to wait an additional 10 minutes, which didn't bother me. After receiving my order, I went back to work. The rodeo burger was a pretty good sized burger for the price, but they forgot my mushrooms. It was a little disappointing, but whatever, I didn't want to make the trip back. The burger was pretty good. The reason for the three stars is because as good as the burger was, about half way through, I was pretty bored with the taste. And I was hungry. The fries were really good with their "golden sauce." That's the only thing I finished. I'll give it another go some other time. read more

Tried this place on a slow Sun afternoon. When i came in both workers were sitting at a table eating. 1 worker got up to take my order the other followed shortly after. Placed my order and wasnt very thrilled at the price of my food but still giving it a chance. While my food was being finished another worker came in without her work shirt on proceeded to put it on next to the grill as well as tie her hair up. Had my food still been on the grill I would have asked for a refund. That is not sanitary or professional at all.
