This place was dissapointing. We waited more than 15 minutes for lukewarm burgers on cold, chewy buns that looked sad and only slightly better quality than Burger King, but about 3 times the price. The music was ridiculously loud and almost every table had a speaker above it so we could not get away. Given all this, it's no wonder the place was mostly empty on a Friday night. So in all honesty I've never even heard of Wayback burgers until I saw them in the news for being the first halal 'american' burger chain in the U.S. We drove out there to check it out. The food is good but I think I over did it with the Double Bacon cheeseburger because all I could taste was the meat. A single cheese burger would have been better, savoring and tasting all of the other toppings/flavors. The bacon was extremely greasy and not too crispy. This needs a bit of work, perhaps over time? For a brand new place, my overall experience was a good one and I'll definitely be back to check it out! More 'national' chains should open up Halal. read more

Decided to come at 4:30 to avoid the lunch and dinner crowd but it was still really busy. Took about 20 minutes to get the food. Worth the wait for fresh food. Had the Rodeo Burger and tried my wife's Cheesy Burger. Loved the Rodeo Burger. The Cheesy Burger was good too but the bun they use is buttered so a little too greasy. Meat was fresh and tasted great. Tried a friends Oreo Shake which was also really good. Will be back soon to try more items. read more

I only almost finished the burger due to low self-esteem. The new red velvet milkshake sounded like a fun idea until just about 3 sips into it then it's more like blah and you realize it goes terrible with a hamburger. Just three stars. First, I must have had complicated order. When I walked in, I spoke to nice girl at front. I told her I wanted Spicy Chipotle Burger, our way, plus bacon. So she confirmed, I wanted the spicy chipotle burger as is, then add our way (lettuce, tomato, ketchup, etc.)... plus bacon. I agreed. When my burger was delivered, it appeared to be lacking any customization. I took it back and said this isn't what I had ordered. Looking at the counter ticket, he points to "as is", which is directly followed by "our way, no mustard, ** bacon" and used as is as the reason why nothing was added additionally to the burger. I gave it back after a man who appears to be a manager just tells the guy to 'just fix it'... So I sit back down and he brings me my burger... but without the bacon. I lifted the bun up and said, okay, now where's the bacon. He makes reference to the counter ticket again and takes it back and throws some bacon on there. :\ One roommate got Double Bacon Cheeseburger with Chipotle mayo, cheese fries, vanilla shake. He says the burger was good but the fries suck. The other roommate ordered the FrankinBurger and it was good. He also ordered the BBQ Chip nachos and we had to take it all to go. I am a huge fry person and gross fries are NO BUENO. My first roommate made comment "you can really tell they just opened, look how disorganized they are" I'll come back for another rating in the future. Not bad place for hamburgers. Came during a lunch run and it was somewhat crowded. Ended up ordering the wayback classic, onion rings, and a drink for a total of over 11 dollars. pretty pricey for fast food hamburgers (in my opinion). Time wise, it took about 15 mins to get my order complete...kinda long but it was during the lunch run so its understandable. Taste wise, the burger was good, but kinda greasy. Onion rings were good and crispy. i did enjoy the chipotle mayo on the burger. Overall, i do like the location, but I do think this place is pretty pricey for hamburgers. This burger joint is nice that it is halal. The burger patties were moist and juicy, but seriously super tiny. The burgers are extremely flat and have not a lot going on in the inside. The french fries are crispy golden to perfection. It is a good atmosphere to bring the family and get your fast food fix on. Service is really fast and they bring it out to your table. The hand dipped milkshakes are all so tasty! Clean surroundings, plenty of seating, and many choices to create. I don't know why there are so many bad reviews, or comments about it being expensive. This IS the bay area, lol like its GOING to cost money. They pay rent and need to make profit as well. Wow, this place deteriorated in a hurry! It has gone way down. Quality is horrible. Burgers did not taste good, the crispy chicken burger and chicken strips were made with a homemade batter which was horrible and dripping in oil. They used to have good chicken strips here--not anymore! It's almost as if they are resorting to homemade methods to avoid purchasing the food from the franchisor's distributor. I make better chicken strips at home. I will definitely be calling the Wayback franchise office to complain. This place is a dump. The restaurant is filthy, with spiderwebs in some windows, the tables and chairs look like they were bought at a garage sale and the restrooms at a truck stop off the I-5 are way cleaner than here! Just like many other desi owned restaurants, they start out ok but end up looking like the owner found a new hobby and gave up. When will Indian/Pakistani restaurant owners finally get it? I'm so sick and tired of supporting Muslim owned establishments that don't give two Shi*$ about their business and keep it in disrepair. Was so excited to try this new place! I have been here twice since they've opened and I can say the food is good. I agree with the poster that mentioned the bacon is not fried thoroughly enough so it doesn't have the correct crisp. I had bacon in my cheeseburger, which I will say is about a 3 star burger. On my second visit, I decided to go with the crispy chicken sandwich and I was not disappointed. It's not easy to find a good halal chicken sandwich and this one certainly hit the spot. I will be back for their chicken items again soon. The staff is super friendly and hospitable. One gentleman (who I believe is the owner) was actually going around to the different tables and checking on customers to see my fm they needed anything. One woman asked for a cup for water and he picked up the cup, filled it himself and brought it back to her. She seemed to be caught off guard because she was expecting the cup so she can fill it herself. As we left, I guess the gentleman noticed and came out to greet us. He thanked us for coming in and ask us about our experience. I can honestly say I've never received so much hospitality at a fast food joint! read more

All Sizzle, No Steak !!! I visited Wayback Burgers on Sunday, March 15th at about 2:30pm. The restaurant was very busy so I was hoping this was a sign that I would be receiving an exceptional burger. The first thing I noticed upon entering was how very dirty the restaurant was. The floor was littered with little bits of dead french fires and other fast food flotsam...the table tops desperately needed a wipe down. The young staff seemed oblivious to this. I ordered the Wavback Classic Burger with their standard toppings minus onions. Despite being very busy my order arrived in just under 10 minutes. The burger looked perfect! Unfortunately the taste did not measure up to the presentation. The bun, though lightly toasted was very soft and squishy...indicated that it had most likely spent too much time in a freezer. The burger patties were hot and juicy but nearly tasteless. What a disappointment, especially given the fact that the bill for the Classic Burger and a regular fountain soda was over $10 ! I'm guessing that Wayback is aiming for an "In and Out Burger experience" and product but with a much larger menu. Sadly, Wayback is not even close to this goal. I don't think I'll be back to the Wayback...the best basic fast food burger is still In and Out and any Carl's Jr. burger leaves Wayback behind based on taste. :h read more

So as I'm typing this I am actually sitting here waiting for my friend to finish eating. I got the Quack burger. Which comes with beef bacon and I don't eat beef. So we told the cashier to put the beef bacon on the side so my friend can eat it. I got my order, beef bacon didn't come on the side so we asked cashier said "hey it didn't come on the side" he said "it's in my burger" I was mad then he says oh no it's not on there. So I checked didn't see anything visible that looked like it. Mistaken how it looked for mushrooms the way they cooked it and how small it is. Then as I was eating I felt a string meat in my mouth. Checked my burger again and cleared everything from my burger (thinking I can trust them enough to do as I asked) and well what do you know. There is beef in my burger. Smh I was cool about it didn't want to cause a scene. So we asked to make something else. The guy that cooks it seen the beef strips and took my plate away and apologize. And my friend ate the beef bacon. All a sudden the manager wants to act out as if I'm a liar about it and all a sudden the cashier out his two cents in saying he did as I asked. The cook that seen it did not say a peeping word. The manager made a scene. Raised his voice and gave attitude, I kindly said "it's okay just give me my money back" and yet manager still raised his voice giving attitude saying "yeah no problem" w/ an attitude as if I'm a liar. This place I feel can do better with attitude and how they cook their food. Meat was hard and stringy, food wasn't even hot. But I didn't complain up until all this happened. Harris Ranch does not supply there meat either - Also just because the owner is Muslim that doesn't mean anything !!! He can still serve haram meat ! I ordered a Double Classic protein style (their equilavent of a double-cheeseburger). My wife opened the container and there between two pieces of lettuce was a bug. Some sort of dead beetle. No problem. It happens. I went to take it back, but when the girl showed it to her manager the first words out of his mouth were "...that's impossible." We didn't have time to have it remade. He told me their lettuce [doesn't have bugs because it is] "expensive." After listening to this story several times, I didn't think I would get a refund? Suddenly, something changed his mind. He gave me the money, repeated the story, and says, it was not their fault... someone "must have put it there." Needless to say, we'll take our business elsewhere. Employees are fine. I just picked up my first order from this place maybe twenty minutes ago It's (8:15pm now), and honestly I'll never come here again. First off the service was bullshit, I walked in the guy at the counter couldn't even be bothered to say. When I told him I had an order for pick, he says nothing walks grabs a bag food and drink and just hands it to me. I had to ask if it was my name under the order, he's response? Nothing just a blank stare with extended arms giving me my food. Now I could look past that service if the food was good, and that's why I'm typing this. The food was garbage. I ordered their buffalo blue chicken sanwich, and, it tasted like frozen store bought chicken strips with no sauce, IT HAD ZERO FLAVOR. In fact everything I ordered had no flavor. My wives burger was bland, she described the taste like "I was eating a bread sandwich". The fried mac-and-cheese bites tasted like chewy air, my onion rings reminded me of the food I got in high school. Meaning it tasted like onions, but your not sure if was real onions in there. And finally came the frozen lemonade, tasted nothing like lemonade, but more like a sour milk shake. Finally, we ordered four dipping sauces for our food. Did we get them? If you said yes then you haven't been paying attention to my rant. I got one Ranch, gross ranch on top of that --the perfect ending to perfectly horribly meal. WayBack Burgers, your name is perfect. I'm rounding up a star, but I'd say this place is 3.5 stars. I ordered online, and was surprised to see that my order would be ready in 15 minutes. I drove over and I guess they never saw my fax come through, so I had to wait for them to make it. Luckily I got a veggie burger so it was super fast. -1 star because the toppings aren't fresh - think five guys toppings (you may like them but i hate them) mushrooms literally tasted like canned mushrooms, I picked them off, jalepenos were pickled, I was hoping for fresh grilled ones, and the sweet peppers were okay but not fresh. -.5 star for order not being ready Customer service was not lacking the guys behind the counter worked quickly and even offered me chips as I waited but I declined, bikini season is around the corner ;) I'd come back, well, I will come back. I need to try their milkshakes, they look amazing! Just beware the meat may not be frozen, but nothing else is fresh. Worth a try though! read more
