Gosh I love Wayla. The food here is so good. I've been twice. Once I sat inside and the second time I got takeout. The first time I went I was blown away by the service, everyone was so friendly, the food came out so fast, and they gave me and my friend the best seat in the house. We had such a lovely time and we ended up ordering crab fried rice to go because it was that good and we wanted to eat it again the next day. The second time we got takeout and although it does not takeout as well as dining in, it was still very good. Some of my favorites: Crispy Whole Branzino. My wife and I went during a weekend winter getaway and chose Wayla for the good food, drinks and heated outdoor seating. Here's why you should go: 1) Food: Using fresh ingredients, anything you order will pop with flavor. My wife and I split the papaya salad, BBQ beef fried pork and yellow vegetable curry. With medium spice, each came with a kick, but not overpowering. The BBQ beef fried rice took the cake- perfect spice level and delicious! We got their version of sticky rice and mango where the mango was a foam and cream. 2) Drinks: They have an impressive cocktail menu, including a few non-alcoholic options. Their signature drink "Sway Wayla" is the best gin cocktail I've ever had and comes out purple thanks to the pea blossom. WOW this place blew me away. The dishes are sooo good, it made me crave for more after. Both dishes were so well flavored, everything was well balanced. My only critique is that for the price of the duck I wish there was more meat. The duck was very lean and I didn't get much meat from it. It felt like I was mainly eating the skin. Finally made my way over here - I can see why this place is so popular. My quick TLDR: -Solid food -Surprisingly good cocktails -Super service, all around good vibes During the winter, they've added tents in their backyard to create a weather proof environment. They also have heaters in the tents, although the cold air still comes through under the tent so be prepared. If you're very cold averse, might be better to stick with the completely enclosed street dining, or indoors. The cocktails were very good. Flavors were good, a balance of sweet and spicy - I will say this dish did seem a bit expensive for the portion size. Beef short rib stew: this was a special (can't remember the name). Absolutely delicious, and the perfect dish on a cold winter day. It's a clear broth with bone-in beef short ribs, with a nice mix of savory and sour (from fish sauce or lime?). Pairs wonderfully with white jasmine rice (a separate order, but only $3). The meat was very tender and glided off the bone too. Khao pad pu: crab fried rice - probably some of the freshest/highest quality crab I've had on top of a fried rice. Our waiter was attentive and excellent. Extremely knowledgeable of the menu from top to bottom, and was very helpful in giving recommendations. He also kept coming out into the cold to attend to us. The Khao Pad Pu was crab-fried rice with a side of chili sauce. The crab-fried rice lacks seasoning. Even with the added chili sauce, it didn't have much flavor. Pla Muk Tod was fried calamari. Carpet, pillows, cute decor...loved it. It definitely gets busy so make a reservation! What a gem in Chinatown! This place is great for your casual dining or for a large party. The back patio extends farther than you'd expect and is perfect for a party of any size. Wayla had been on my list for a while now and was able to make a reservation for 3 on a Friday night (definitely need a reservation btw). We were seated in their coffee shop turned auxiliary seating above the restaurant, which was fine but pretty drafty because there is no connection to the restaurant from inside. With the doors constantly being opened throughout the night (and it was about 20 degrees outside), it was definitely not ideal. Beside that, the food and service was very good. We had a few of the cocktails (all great), thai iced tea (not good sadly), chicken wings, moo sarang (noodle wrapped meatballs), short rib stew, beef ribs, and the beef fried rice. I wouldn't order the wings again because they were soooo tiny, but the meatballs were awesome and unique. Entrees were very good, though a bit over priced. I'd probably recommend the stew the most. Overall, I think Wayla is a good restaurant, but a bit over hyped. I also would recommend eating in their main restaurant in the winter, if possible. Moo sarong- 3/5 pictures are deceiving. These tiny little bites are the size of half dollar. So tiny. Not worth it for the value. It's just a cute unique noodle wrapped meatball. Eating it alone without the sauce leaves you minimal flavors - more soy salty. Kao pad pu- fried rice with crab. 4/5. They do give you big chunks of crab which was unexpected. Came in for a late Saturday brunch at around 2:30 pm. I had been wanting to try this place for a while but the lunch menu is different than the dinner menu. My friend who had visited for dinner before said the dinner service is much better with more options, so I'll definitely have to come back for that. Here is everything we ordered to share: Moo Sarong (crispy noodle wrapped pork meatball) - this was probably my favorite. It was perfectly fried, and I love a good pork meatball (or any meatball, really) Grilled Tofu Pad Thai - this was pretty basic. The noodles were kind of broken up into pieces Pad Prik Khing - wok-fried long beans in a galangal chili paste - we needed some veggies, and this was the perfect option. It was flavorful and not overly spicy Peek Gai Tod (chicken wings glazed with plum sauce) - these were fine. Nothing great but nothing bad about it Pla Muk Tod (fried calamari) - I loved the creamy avocado dip that it was served with. I could have slathered this on everything Maa's Gaeng Pak (yellow coconut curry) - this was probably my second favorite dish. But it was all veggies - I could have used some protein in it Crab omelet - this was a kind of oily (which is expected since it's a fried omelet) but I always appreciate when they have this on the menu because they don't serve it at a lot of places For drinks, I had some non-alcoholic pear/ginger drink, which was amazing. Service was above and beyond, shout out to our man / host Daryl for helping us chase away a persistent unwelcome lurker. Food (5/5): we got the lobster pad thai, meatballs and a side of sticky rice. The sticky rice was a little on the dry side, a little different from the balls wrapped in banana leaves that I'm used to. It was probably meant to be eaten with curries instead of alone (I fully embrace my identity as a rice bucket) but was flavorful nonetheless! Seafood pad thais are often very much a gimmick but this time around both presentation and taste were *chef's kiss* - the lobster had good texture and buttery taste, noodles were not sticky but also not too dry, the thin bed of fried egg was a very cool take on the typical toss. Meatballs were amazing, crispy on the outside and juicy and savoury / umami on the inside, the sweet and sour sauce could not have been a better complement. The dessert was THE BEST THING on this menu!! The mango / coconut pudding is a really cool take on the usual mango and jackfruit with sticky rice dessert that I grew up with. The sticky rice at the bottom was tinged blue (not sure why) and was delightfully sticky with still a spring in the texture, cooked just right. Was also not too sweet. Absolutely nailed it?! Service (5/5) - we arrived a little late and also had dropped one from our reservation, were still seated promptly. Waitstaff had great drink recommendations and offered good portion information. Dishes came with a short blurb of the ingredients and a 5 second introduction on how to best eat / serve it, which I appreciated. Non-intrusive but informative. In the middle of our meal, a lurker stopped by outside our outdoor booth and tried to engage my party in conversation. Turned awkward very quickly and our host Daryl noticed and politely but firmly and sassily asked him to leave. Ambiance (5/5) - we were seated outside in little wooden shaded booths. Rustic but clean, not too loud, and complemented the woven baskets and metal service very well. The indoors looked cute, bright colors. Even though we had a 90 minute limit on our seating our meal didn't feel rushed at all and the food came pretty promptly. Covid - we were checked for vaccination even though we were seated outside and there was ample space to spread out. All in all, would visit again! My wife had heard of Wayla for the longest time and we are glad we finally dined here. The service here is on point and the food is excellent as well. Our server was great in explaining all the items on the menu and giving recommendations based on your spice preferences. Food: What she recommended was the string beans with tofu and, if we like heat, the fried shrimp. She did mention that it was the spiciest thing in the menu and gave us ample warning. In addition to that, we also got the papaya fried rice to start and the lump crab fried rice. 1) The papaya salad is really delicious but a bit spicy. It's got a great crunch to it 2) the fried shrimp was really quite spicy but amazingly delicious! The server asked us several times if we really wanted it due to the spice, and really recommends ordering a rice dish to even it out. This is some of the tastiest, south Asian flavored shrimp I've ever had. 3) the string beans and tofu is phenomenal. The See Krong Moo Yang (bbq ribs) are amazing- they fall right off the bone and pair really well with the pickled veggies they include. The Ped Tod Tum Tim is also a must-have for duck lovers. They have a pretty nice outdoor backyard. We came here for a Mother's Day brunch and ordered family style to share. I would say that I enjoyed the food, but I'm sadly lacking in the spice department so I could barely manage to eat a single piece of shrimp without tearing up. I've been to this place twice now and have had an amazing experience both times. This instance I made a reservation for 8 on a Thursday night. We were seated pretty quickly. We started off with some cocktails. I always love the lychee martinis. They have a great menu of other cocktails and sake as well. It was pretty late (9pm) so we went straight for entrees. I've only ever ordered one thing- the lobster pad Thai. It is beautifully presented and the taste is amazing. To get to this restaurant, you have to walk down a small set of stairs. I missed the entrance at first! I made a reservation for a party of 2 at 5:15PM on a Tuesday night and was seated almost immediately. The interior of this place is beautiful, and the service is just as great. We were checked up on frequently, had our waters filled without asking, and were treated so well. Now onto the food! 1. Spiked Thai Iced Tea: My friend didn't think it was too strong, but he said it was delicious! 2. Basil Lemonade: This was on the sweeter side, but it paired well with the food for sure! 3. Pla Muk Tod (Calamari) 3/5: This was a bit disappointing. There wasn't anything special about this, and the sauce tasted like those portable guac cups you'd get at costco. It just tasted like frozen calamari, we could've done without this. 4. Som Tom Thai (Papaya Salad) 3/5: Nothing too special here. Tastes how you would expect it to, and not necessarily worth the price point,. 5. Lunar New Year Mee Pad (Lobster) 4/5: We got a Lunar New Year menu and this lobster dish was one of the special entrees. I'm glad we tried it, it was super tasty, and you get a decent amount of lobster (for 2 anyway). It's similar the kind of lobster dish you'd get at a Chinese banquet style wedding. 6. Chu Chee Pla (Whole Fried Branzino) 5/5: This was by far the most creative and delicious dish! It came with a lot of branzino, and the sauce that paired with it was so good. I went here with maybe 5/6 others maybe 2/3 months ago. This is a cool place with a nice vibe. The food overall was just fine with the dessert of all things being by far the most outstanding. The appetizers here in general are quite unique with a couple of the common dishes you'd find on other menus more being found in the main dish section. The staff while friendly was a bit inattentive forgetting about my chili sauce request among other things. For a drink, I went with the Pandan-nana which consisted of Haku vodka, Blackwell rum, banana liqueur, demerara (a type of cane sugar,) Thai banana, and pandan of course. There was also a very tasty piece of dried banana on top as well as a pandan leaf. This was for some reason or another served in a Tiki glass which didn't really fit with well anything otherwise. This drink as expected was very sweet and there was a good amount of alcohol. Unfortunately, there was way too much ice and the flimsy environmental straw eventually just broke from the amount of water so it had to be sipped. I started with: Moo sarong or Pork in golden thread. These are pork meatballs wrapped in crispy noodles and fried with white pepper and a sambal chili dip. The texture of these meatballs was unique from the crispiness and the sweet spicy dipping sauce went well with it. I'm not sure if it was worth it for the price due to the size but this was a unique fun dish. I also tried the som tum from someone which was the usual and other people enjoyed the chicken wings. I would have gone with the grilled sugarcane/pork appetizer as I have had it before but it was made with impossible meat My main dish was Khao Pad Pu or Crab meat fried rice. This consisted of lump crab meat with egg and flat chives. Compared to the other dish, the price was a bit more reasonable due to the amount of crab (but of course higher than most other places.) The fried rice had a good amount of egg but overall, the flavors were a bit too light outside of oil and I've definitely had better. I requested chili sauce but that never arrived. I tried the sauce from a spicy shrimp dish which was much tastier though that portion size seemed a bit small. After finishing, the waiter said the dessert menu as there wasn't a written down one. Along with the mango sticky rice there was I believe an ice cream option and something else. The final option sounded the most unique and tasty so I went with it and I am very happy I did. My dessert came with butterfly pea sticky rice topped with a mango mousse, coconut creme, and dried coconut. Compared to the rest of the menu, this was much tastier and a fantastic modern twist on your usual mango sticky rice. There was a great contrast in colors, textures, and flavors with a not super sweet mousse mixing well with the coconut and the texture from the blue sticky rice. I am unsure if the dessert chef is different but kudos to them if that's the case. If the lines weren't really big, I would go back here just for this (maybe Little Wayla serves this or something.) This place has a cool atmosphere but i feel you're paying more for this than excellent food which is unfortunate when compounded by the just alright service. If I'm paying this much for Thai food, everything must be very good. Made a last minute reservation via Resy app and was delighted to find an outdoor table available. The outdoor patio is down on the basement level and is really pretty with lights as decoration. We were a group of 6 hungry people so we pretty much ordered almost everything on the menu and had no regrets nor doggy bags. My favorite out of the dishes was probably the grilled tofu pad Thai and the crispy calamari. My friend really enjoyed the beef fried rice. The beans and tofu stir fry was awesome too. Service was amazing. I accidentally dropped one of the meatballs and the waiter kindly and swiftly gave us another one. Would definitely recommend this place. It's an awesome place where it isn't too loud, great food and cocktail list and the outdoor patio is enjoyable to sit in. read more

One of (if not the best) Thai places I've ever been to!! Every single dish was soooo tasty and full of high quality ingredients. Definitely get the crab fried rice, curry, and fried fish (i don't even like fish and ate so much of this). The apps were a little small for the price but the insane main dishes made up for it. The three of us shared a mango sticky rice for dessert and we almost ordered another one because it was so good. Cocktails are usually a hit or miss with me but somehow every single one of their cocktails tasted unique and amazing. The pairing of each flavour was thoughtful and pleasant. Extensive restaurant with a hidden tented outdoor section. Sat in a booth with din lighting. The decoration fits the sort of underground vibe. Service was fine - nothing horrible/nothing outstanding. The food was yum! I came here with a group of friends for my birthday. We came and had reservations, we were seated outside which I didn't love but it was a busy Friday night so I understood. Our waiter came and we asked a few questions that received very curt replies. We quickly ordered drinks for the table and our appetizers. The food came out quickly and was good overall. We ordered a series of dishes, the stand outs being the curry and the steak (and I don't like steak!). We didn't feel rushed but definitely received a strange vibe from the waiter that was very off putting and caused us not to linger as we normally would. We didn't get to see the interior so I have no idea what it looks like. Overall, I don't think I would come back. The food was fine but there are definitely other Thai places that are fantastic, especially at this high price point. read more

Very nice service and that backyard is amazing. They made sure we all got lovely seats. We were a large group and they did everything to welcome us. We ordered pretty much all the cocktails and cannot complain of any of them. Of course some were better than others. Food Moo Sarong: very innovative and fun appetizer. We ended up ordering more for the table. Remember it's hard to stop at just one Larb Pla Tod: it's basically a whole fried branzino. The seasoning is perfect. They really cut it up so you don't have to feel scared of "dissecting" a fish elegantly at a restaurant Sen Chan Pad Lobster: lovely dish. Looks good and tastes even better. This is a pad Thai style noodle with lobster meat. It's pricey but worth it Kua Kling Kung: definitely order this if you like spicy food. Amazing burst of flavors. The shrimp is perfectly cooked. It's absolutely yum especially if you have one of their refreshing cocktails on the side Daily curry: brilliantly made curry. It is very hearty and soulful. The vegetables are beautifully cooked in a tasty curry sauce Crabmeat fried rice: nothing can go wrong with fried rice with tons of crab meat, comfort food at its best Calamari: among all these amazing dishes probably the least amazing thing but the dipping sauces were dope The bill was pretty hefty but all worth it! I really enjoyed the food at Wayla. For an appetizer, we got the Moo Sarong (which were these meatballs wrapped in noodles that were deep fried) These were really amazing and I have never seen another Thai restaurant with this dish. For the mains, we got the Khao Pad Pu (lump crab fried rice). This was my favorite! They were very generous with the crab portions and the rice was stir fried to perfection. It also came with a spicy fish sauce for extra flavor. We also ordered the short rib curry. My only complaint is that I wish the short rib was more tender and had more of a fatty consistency. It was a bit dry. The curry was really flavorful and was a great accompaniment to the jasmine rice. Their thai iced tea is made with oat milk, which is great for those that are lactose intolerant. read more

What a great place for Thai food! Came early for a reservation and was still sat down earlier than our reservation time. Ordered the sticky rice, vegetable curry, and crab fried rice. The vegetable curry was one of the best curries I've had -- very well balanced for spices and not overly sweet. Definitely would recommend and a delicious way to eat more vegetables. Crab fried rice was also great, they give huge chunks of crab and definitely felt worth the price. read more
