Every time I come here, and I've been coming here for years, I have an amazing time. They may not recognize me, but the servers never fail to give me absolute 10/10 service every time. I have never had a negative experience eating here. I'm sat as quickly as possible, and my water arrives immediately. There is no question about this. It does not matter how many friends I bring, we will have our waters when we sit down, no issue. Kim and Dulce were a dynamic duo, taking care of our every need without us even needing to ask. Refills on water and checking in on us after we finished a round of sushi, they were on top of everything. Not for a moment did we feel like we were a second thought in this restaurant, even though we were in the corner of the outside patio! I've never had a bad experience here, but Kim and Dulce really made us feel welcome in my dining experience tonight, and we absolutely have to harp on them again. They were fantastic! Great spot if you're looking for some sushi near Orange! I've been twice and both times the staff have always been very friendly. The quality of the sushi is very fresh! It kept our meal balanced and budget friendly. -spicy tuna ($9 for 8pcs): cucumber + sprout -yellowtail ($8 for 5pcs) -awesome roll ($20): tuna, salmon, albacore, avocado in soy paper, topped with yellowtail, lemon, jalapeño +cilantro sauce -grenade roll ($14): shrimp tempura, imitation crab, avocado, cream cheese + jalapeño deep fried Honestly, I highly recommend ordering a few cut rolls. This gives you a chance to eat fresh rolls at really reasonable prices. Both the spicy tuna and yellowtail rolls were great additions to our meal. Husband and I had lunch here on a rainy day. Parking is difficult, especially in the rain. There is a small lot behind them that was full, luckily we found a spot on the street about a block down. They were totally packed with seating room at the bar. The rest of the bar filled up within minutes of us arriving. They also have an outdoor patio but it was flooded when we were there. Service was fast, not overly friendly. Since we were at the bar the chefs handed us our rolls, and we placed an order for a 3rd roll with a chef as well. I had a cup of miso soup, which was brought out after the rolls, I had wanted it before the meal. It was good, steaming hot, light miso flavor. We split three rolls - Philadelphia Salmon, a basic Philly roll that hit the spot! Grenade, a deep fried roll with shrimp, imitation crab, jalapeños (not spicy at all, very mild), cream cheese, and eel sauce. We really enjoyed this one as well, tasted like a big piece of tempura shrimp. Finally, we had the Darth Vader, and I don't think either of us understood what this was going to be. It was another deep fried roll with albacore wrapped in seaweed. It was basically like an albacore sausage. One piece was enough for me. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. My husband finished it off. We said we will try them again, I want to stick to fresh rolls/raw fish and not get another deep fried one. It has an industrial feel with a small sushi bar, and patio seating if you want to sit outside. Plenty of sushi options. We grabbed avocado and California rolls for our niece who's easing into sushi, and they were perfect. It's definitely for collegiate audience (Chapman University is nearby). It didn't taste fishy which was great! Caterpillar was very average and I would not order it again. The sauce was sweeter than expected and rice was a little hard. The service was good. The sushi rolls were a bigger hit. The fish was very fresh and had amazing taste. Both of the rolls were extremely good; my only feedback is that I felt the the snow white roll was not packed tightly enough, so it fell apart a little. It was still a very good roll. The inside of the restaurant is designed like a restaurant right out of Japan. The workers provided great service and we're able to recommend some great rolls. Cute, quiet place near the Circle. Walkable distance from Chapman University that offers a lunch special menu. Service was super quick and attentive, I went right at open and got sat right away with many workers coming to check on me. The fried soft shell crab was the perfect appetizer. Not too heavy but definitely flavorful: nice saltiness and crunch to every bite with a ponzu dipping sauce. I got an Alaskan roll which was very refreshing and filling. After a bit of antique shopping in Old Orange , we were famished. We spotted this sushi spot awhile back and decided to stop by for lunch to give it a try. It's pretty small inside, but there is also outdoor seating available. The server pointed out the lunch specials and I ordered the Sashimi 8 piece lunch special, which comes with a salad and miso soup. We also added the spider and lobster roll. The salad was fresh and the Sashimi and miso soup were just mediocre. It just didn't taste fresh to me. I specifically asked the server if there was any oil or seasoning on this dish and the server said no. I would have been ok with the two oil dots not touching the Sashimi. However, I wasn't ok with the unknown sauce below the garnish that got on the fish. The lobster roll arrived and it took another 20 minutes for the spider roll. We were told by various servers that the roll would arrive soon. For as long as we waited, we were surprised that the soft shell crab was cold. I asked one of the servers, why it took so long for the roll and she came up with a lot of excuses. She claimed with only two fryers, they had a back up. But, when we entered, the resteraunt wasn't full. She also was adamant that the soft shell crab was hot, but it clearly wasn't. Overall, not great. This is our Go To Sushi spot. We get it to go so I cannot speak to an actual dining experience, but the place always looks and smells clean, their sushi and sashimi is fresh, beautiful and tasty. If this restaurant were personified, I would greet them by saying "Wazaaaa, b?!" And then we'd laugh and they'd offer me great quality sushi at some of the most reasonable prices. The sushi(s?) in question being the BSC and the Nemo roll, with the Nemo Roll being a recommendation by one of the servers. Both dishes, along with the calamari tempura, were a hit! What made it better was the no wait time- on a Saturday evening, no less- and the quick and friendly service. They said wait time was around 30 minutes but it was about 15 to 20 mins. So not bad. We got seated at the bar and our waitress was really nice. Service is great here. Everyone is very friendly and good about clearing empty plates. We ordered: 3.5 out of 5. Hamachi with jalapeño. We were going to order yellowtail carpaccio but the waitress recommended the hamachi. It was decent. It was fresh but no flavor to the jalapeño. 4 out of 5. Bluefin toro with fresh wasabi (2 pieces). Delicious. Recommend this. 3 out of 5. Slot Machine sushi roll. This was my least favorite because there was a lot of cream cheese and rice with little fish. I would pass on this. 3 out of 5. Baked Salmon Roll. It is what it is. 4 out of 5. Awesome Roll sushi roll. This was my favorite, flavor-wise, out of everything we ate. The fish, rice, avocado ratio was proportionate. I really liked the tang sauce it came in/with. You can select either 2 or 6 pieces. Salmon Skin Hand Roll I loved this one - stuffed with cucumber, sprouts, bonito flakes and shreds of salmon skin - I could snack on these forever. A bit hard to eat, but I don't mind pickup up the fallen flakes of skin. Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna With eel sauce, spicy mayo, masago and green onion. It's a mouthful - bottomed with perfectly seared rice and topped with a huge dollop of spicy tuna. They pair together so well - in both flavor and textures. Cucumber Salad Not my favorite - a little too sweet and sour for me... I guess I'm used to cold and spicy. The super thin cuts are delicate to handle, but there's a lot of slices, so you end up picking up a bunch at a time. Located a block from the Orange Circle, the restaurant is small with limited parking in the back. However, if you walk a few minutes, you should be easily able to find parking near the train station a block away. The restaurant, like I mentioned, is small but cozy. The service was nice and welcoming. I went with my go-to order. A chirashi bowl. Between the regular and the premium, I decided why not get the premium. Yes, it's pricey, but I'm sure it can easily feed 2 people comfortably! I didn't know this going into it, but when I come here again, I'll split it with my wife. At the time of this review, the premium chirashi was $65. However, it was PACKED with fish! From uni, sweet shrimp, toro, salmon, salmon belly, yellowtail, etc. literally so many pieces in there! It was very delicious and the rice was seasoned perfectly. I started to get full about 2/3 through the bowl. I ended up taking the rest home for a snack but I could have easily stopped half way into the bowl. The fish was fresh and tasty. Mmm I'll definitely be coming back. I also had the Seared Tuna Salad. The strips of Tuna were perfectly seasoned with a Peppery/Sweet Crust and the salad was topped with wonderful Fried Onion Strings and Garlic/Ponzu Sauce. Service was really really bad- like some of the worst I've had in years. Which is a shame because the sushi was pretty good. We came on Sunday for lunch at about 1pm. There were maybe 8 tables and at least 3-4 servers and they all seemed like they weren't busy and didn't know what they were doing. Our server was supposedly Mint- and she was unfriendly and absent. But we did only see her for the initial seating and for our drinks. For seating she didn't say hello or follow me just waved to an open table and walked away. When we ordered they were out of multiple drinks, which was annoying but not a deal breaker. We ended up getting the Thai tea- it was delicious, not the best I've had but really good non the less. They used crushed ice which was a nice touch. We ordered lunch specials and food came out promptly- the server (not mint) dashed away before I could ask for soy sauce. We never were given soy sauce or wasabi. Before mint came to break down a table next to us she saw us grab the soy sauce because no one came to bring it or offer it or came anywhere near our table for that matter for me to even ask for it. She laughed a bit- like is it funny we have to resort to finding our own soy sauce? and I asked her to please bring wasabi. She never came back- and I saw her doing a whole lot of nothing behind the server station. So after waiting another 5 to 10 minutes I had to wave down a different server for wasabi and ginger. The saving grace of this place is that the food is good- sushi was fresh and rolls were large. Which honestly made me so sad that the wait staff were souring our experience. Also- Mint never came back to our table, another server came to bring us our check- which also I had to wave someone down to get after we waited awhile and no one showed up to check on us. The thing is- I work customer service and I work for a small business. I understand how exhausting it can be working with the public, and how sometimes working for a small business can spread us a little thinner than a higher staffed corporate team. But i didn't even get basic customer service, no hello, how are you, can i get you anything, etc. It was like i ordered from quick service restaurant except worse because i relied on them to get me condiments and the check and they were absent. At least at a quick service restaurant I can pay at the counter and find my own condiments- and im not expected to tip staff. I don't think I'll be back, I just moved near here and was really excited to find a sushi place near my house that I could go to regularly. I don't expect to be waited on hand and foot when I go out to eat, but I got neither attentive staff nor friendly staff. The bare minimum is service that functions without ruining the experience of the food which was unfortunately not the case. Really a shame, the manager/owner needs to put some emphasis on training the wait staff for basic customer service. read more
