So first off, the salesman that sold me their service at my doorstep seemed like a nice guy, but I think this company has an issue with their sales approach and training to not all, but some pf their employees being that they have a good amount of positive reviews from others, but a handful of reviews and experiences similar to mine. When thinking back to our conversation that led me to sign up for their service, there was no way I remember being told that each service would cost $100 each servicing. I remember signing up thinking that $200 a year seemed like a great deal for this type of service, which is what I was led to believe. When my first service was scheduled, I texted the technician that signed me up that I needed to post-pone my first service until our next pay period due to our family's finances that week. He then texted me back stating he would drop my initial service to $50 to help us out. This is where the confusion began, being that I was under the impression that I had signed up for $50 per service for the entire year. I allowed the initial servicing to be done to see what type of difference it made on the population of spiders around our house, but did not observe a significant enough difference to continue business. It was then that I decided to call the office about cancellation and the customer service rep informed me that due to the contract I had signed, I was contracted and committed to pay each service at $100 per service for the rest of the year or pay a $100 cancellation fee. Was it my fault for not reading the fine print well enough? Sure, you can go ahead and argue that, but I have known other types of businesses that count and plan on making a substantial amount on their cancellation fees that they conveniently hide or fail to mention to the customer at the time of signing. A company that is confident in their product or service has no need for such a high cancellation fee. The only need is knowing that which each signature your sales representatives are able to obtain, you are guaranteed a minimum profit amount of $100. All I want is out of the contract and to discontinue business, but now I am forced to pay you $100 for cancellation or be sent to collections if I refuse to pay for services or the cancellation fee. It seems as though I've been bamboozled folks. read more

We signed up with Home Guard (via a doo-to-door pitch) when we moved into our place a year back. We had an ant problem when we first moved in, and Homeguard took care of it, and we didnt see ants for a year (thanks to their quarterly service). With the sudden rise in temperature last week, the ants made a comeback. Home Guard was prompt and sent Marc over to take care of the issue. Great service! Only suggestion would be that they should change their name to "We Do Creepy", it is easier to remember rather than HomeGuard ;). read more

This company is awesome! Eric is our technician and is so informative and professional. He has been our technician for the past two years and since we've had a contract with them we have not had ants or other insects invading our home or yard. We saw a tiny mouse in the house and Erik was able to eliminate the problem. As we are having air conditioning installed today, Airmaxx informed us that we had rats in the attic. Eeee gads! We called HomeGuard and Erik is coming to resolve the problem on Saturday. We live in a home backing up to a ravine, so we see coyotes, rabbits and squirrels, but rats? Yuck! I definitely like these guys. This is just one of those things I don't mind paying quarterly service for. Having moved into a new house, in a new area, we continually have ants and bug problems. Generally, a quarterly schedule does the trick, but lately we've been having problems with ants... so I've had to call Home Guard back out more frequently and they're move than happy to come out for additional service. I got Home Guard because my house was the last one build in my street, they didn't continue building houses after mine. That created such pest problem. Now that a couple years have past they are going to start rebuilding and finish our street. This business came to our door and offered us a great rate. We had just started to see a few spiders and so I thought, maybe we should sign up for a year worth of services. That was a great decision, because within a week we got hit like a lot of other Southern Californians with the Brown Widow outbreak. They have come out free of charge time after time to help control the problem. They have always been helpful and courteous when they are here. We have a pretty rural property and the bugs were already getting bad and it wasn't even summer yet. The price they gave me was better than the other company and I didn't have to have a tent put over my house, move out for 3 days and have my home filled with toxic gas! We moved in 4 years ago and had massive bug issues. I mean a spider came down from the ceiling and got in the meat I was cooking on the stove...GROSS!!! Since we started with Marc in 2013 we see very few bugs of any kind. The garage is completely bug free and when it gets close to our quarterly visits... I felt the need to write an update after Riley, company owner, called me first thing this morning to apologize. He explained that they have actually redeemed very few of the Yelp vouchers, and he forgot what the voucher provided. He sincerely apologized, and was even willing to provide a refund, which I politely declined. He also shared, that they have a paperless system, and when I asked the technician for a receipt, he truly didn't know how he would provide one or what to put on it. Also, it was only his 2nd day on the job. I'm sure it must have been very uncomfortable to be in the middle of such a heated debate. I appreciate Riley's concern over the miscommunications that occurred, as he's a family man and works in the area in which his family lives. He wants to make sure that not only are his customers satisfied, but that his family can hold their head up in the community they interact with. It's unfortunate that this misunderstanding occurred, but life it full of issues and opportunities, and how we deal with them can determine our success or failure. Riley is very conscious of the issue, and took the opportunity to shore up the communication level. I'm sure this will lead to a more satisfied customer base.
