Good to see a Hong Kong style cafe opened at El Monte, it avoid the busiest area in SGV and Rosemead. You can go to WeChat just avoid all the traffic in the area, with plenty of parking spaces. Servers are very friendly. Foods are good, authentic. Pork knuckle is very delicious, tender meats with crispy skin. The knuckle is very huge, it is good for two people to share. Baked pork chop tastes pretty good, except the pork chop is a little bit salty when I had this dish last time. In overall, it tastes like the one that I got from HK. Stir fried udon with beef/seafood is surprisingly good. Ramen tastes okay, it is a challenge to serve Ramen in a cafe after all. But it is good to have an extra option on the menu. For drinks, passion fruit iced tea is so good there, comes with free refill. Foodwise, I will choose this rather than Ray Ray (just across the stress). read more

Their service is a hit or miss depending on your server. 1 time I had a server who did not speak 1 word to us and when he gave us our food he just tossed it on the table. They have a very unique menu and at first I didn't know what to get. It's like an international cuisine with everything from chow fun to lamb chops to German pork knuckle. I tried the lemon grass pork chop and beef chow fun. Everything tastes homemade and fresh. Can't go wrong with the price, cleanliness, and super friendly service! The food was ok and the service was wonderful compare to other chinese restaurant. We ordered noodle soup with beef in wood bucket, ribeye steak and baked chicken rice with tomato sauce. The black pepper sauce for the ribeye steak was not hk style. Actually it is hard to tell it is a black pepper sauce. For the baked rice, the rice was cold and we have to make them re baked again. We found this place through a friend and surprisingly the customer services was great. JC made my girlfriends I feel very comfortable and their food was tasty as well. I ordered the baked porkchop as JC recommended and it was surprisingly very crispy and delicious. The pasta was a little bland but the creme brulee definitely added a perfect end and touch to meal. I bought two take out dishes today. the famous pork feet & grilled pork chop with garlic sauce. 1. pork feet is good! tasty! no weird pork smell. the most important thing about it is I am a person afraid of greasy, oily fat, but the way they make it made me feel I'm eating collagen, not fat. How wonderful!!! 2. If you though I'm going to talk about pork chop, then I'm sorry to mislead you by using bullet points. Since they are good at cooking pork feet, then what's hard about pork chops, right? I want to give them thumbs up for their sauce and side. The garlic sauce is perfect with rice and not like most regular HK cafes only offer black pepper and mushroom sauces. The garlic sauce is not extreme garlic garlic which make you feel your erythrocytes shining, but has the flavor and gives your the urge to eat more rice because it's like homemade sauce from your Asian mom. As to the side, they gave me carrots and zucchini. Be honest, I have lived for more than 30 years and I hate carrots in my entire life and that is the only vegi I won't eat or buy in my life, but their carrots have no weird carrots flavor. So! if you want your children eat carrots which they hate it as well, then give yourself a try to come here. The dishes I orders were the corn gravy with breaded fish over rice and the pork chop spaghetti. The breaded fish was all breading and has no fish visible. The pork chop was dried and the sauce was suck. Drinks like tea and coffee was an additional $2.50. It wasn't the same from years ago when I was dining here. The place looked the same as compared to years ago. It seemed like it's under new ownership and ran by a family. After we sat down, no one came over to take our orders. There was an elderly walking around and he only served and talked to the elderly customers. The only server who spoke Mandarin was the most attentive. I looked around and all the customer seems unhappy and dissatisfied. The restaurant was not even busy and with 5 servers on the floor with less than 15 tables in the restaurant; don't tell me you cannot manage the business. The prices were a bit higher as compared to the cafes in Monterey Park, ALHAMBRA and etc; and I didn't the think the food, atmosphere and service worth the price. This place is a bit distance from my house, but decide to pay this place a visit because of its traditional name for mid price cafe in HK. FYI, they even made a movie with the same title as its Chinese name. Thus this setup my standard of expectation. However, after reading mixed reviews here, I began to lower my expectation. For in my over 40 years since immigrate from HK, have visited many similar catchy named places, but only to be disappointed afterward. I was hoping this time it would be different. Upon arrival on a Tuesday evening, we were quickly seated. The atmosphere was very causal and ambient reminded of typical old fashion family style cafe in HK. It was a very comfortable feeling. I can understand why some non Hong Kongers would complaint about the feeling of unevenness service. The style of service is not your typical Americanized so called HK cafe (these cafes are mostly really bad or very friendly but lack in warmness in service). A tips for those who have no exposures to a authentic HK family run cafe, you need to be pro-active, but polite in engage your waiters/servers. They will reciprocate plus more. Now onto the food, since everyone taste bud is different, this is only my opinion and not everyone will agreed. Not sure why so reviews complaint about food being salty. But the four dishes that we ordered were all on the blend side, but not by much. All three in our party all gave 5 stars to the food. Don't think I need to further explain our reasons as one must try and see what your taste bud tell you. But to me, food is one of less than a handful of places that uniquely pleasing to this Hong Konger. read more

The Singaporian style vermicelli is not bad; not too spicy and not salty. However, the satay chicken is terrible. First of all the chicken was not char-grilled. I love Chinese cafe food and was very happy to find one in my area especially with late night hours. Like most asian cafes, they serve the tomato vegetable soup and serve a dessert , creme brulee, after your meal. I had the Indonesian fried rice which I enjoyed and the milk tea (free refills). My boyfriend had the WeChat fries which are smothered in some sauce topping with cheese, they do have a very different flavor but are still tasty. He also had the beef udon and red bean drink. Had their food togo once, so we decided to come and sit down to eat again. This is probably by far the best HK food we have around san Gabriel area. We ordered salmon pasta, curry chicken and wechat pork. They were all very tasty! Price is relatively higher than regular hk style cafe around the area, but I still think the price is within reasonable. I heard many people order their 'german pork', seems to be a famous dish. If u order food with total price above 30, they give u an additional ginger chicken rice for free which is also quite tasty. The only thing I was a little shock is I wanted to take my drink go when I left, they demanded 50 cents for the plastic cup. I felt that's a little cheap especially this is quite a standard in all hk style cafe and their coffee is a little bit over priced ($4). The coffee is good and it will be wasted if I dont want to pay that 50 cents. I think they have steep profit in their drink especially in a location of el monte. I guess I will just eat there next time and spend the coffee money at half & half or similar. Anyway, other similar hk cafe we go to are HK Cafe, Garden Cafe, Tasty Garden, and Delicious Food Corner. read more

The service here was excellent and we were greeted with smiles right when we arrived. Their food is delicious and milk tea comes in cute mason jars! I had their satay beef skewers and it was so good. I've been hearing some good reviews about this place. I came here on a Friday afternoon around before their rush. One of the worker, maybe manager or owner was smoking at the front door. Was annoyed that I had to walk to smoke to get inside. The menu was pretty limited and prices were actually higher than typical cafes. Cash only. I guess since there aren't that many in El Monte, which makes up for it. Flavor is along the line of typical cafes in Monterey Park/Alhambra. They have some specials on the wall in Chinese. The service was actually good. They all spoke Cantonese. I saw one waiter bringing dishes out and told the patrons what the abbreviated name of each dish, made it a little more personal. Drinks were refilled pretty quickly. If I was in the area and didn't feel like driving further west, then this would be a good place for authentic café food, not sure if I would drive out here instead of the typical cafes which is closer to me. read more
