Came here for dinner with friends on a Friday night and had to wait for a table since they were full. They have one side for hotpot and other side for eating noodles. We waited around 10 or 15 minutes which wasn't bad. I ordered the Fresh Cut Wagyu Beef Noodle Soup (15.98) and got the Fried Beef Cubes Skewers (10.75). They have a very nice teapot and cups at the table that is very traditional looking, and I liked that. The food was served very fast. The noodle broth was flavorful and there was a lot of noodles. The beef quality was not bad but could be better. For the beef skewers, they were really good and seasoned perfectly. The beef cubes are big and the portion is seems pretty worth for the price compared to when you get regular skewers that are much smaller. The employees are also nice here. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was honestly unacceptable. We had already written down our name and phone number and were waiting like everyone else. When the old short-haired staff member called my number, I clearly responded. However, she ignored me, crossed out my name, and immediately let another group who arrived after us take the table -- even though they were standing right next to me. When I spoke up, instead of acknowledging the mistake or apologizing, she simply said, "It's okay, just wait," and then claimed that I never responded -- which is simply not true. This is not just about a small mistake; it's about attitude and basic customer respect. Ignoring a customer and then dismissing them without any apology is extremely unprofessional. The beef bone soup base of the noodles was clear yet very flavourful. The noodles were springy and the toppings were generous as well. The star of the show was actually their shacha sauce from the self-serve sauce bar. It was one of the best shacha sauce I've had and tasted amazing when added to the noodles. During the lunch hour, the line was getting pretty long but my family was already seated. Here comes the not so great part. The service was uncomfortable and awkward. Once the bill came, my dad was ready to pay with card. Mind you, there's even signage that says they accept card payments. However, the server told us that their wifi is down so they cannot accept card payments at this time. That could've been communicated to us before we sat down and ordered. We would've gone elsewhere since we didn't have cash. My dad was going to head to the bank while we sat and waited for him to come back, but then the manager said that she can take Zelle. My parents don't use Zelle, but luckily I do. Once that was covered, the manager approached me for not tipping. For one thing, I didn't have cash. Ordered the B1 Oyster Pancake and C2 Fried Beef Cube Skewers for appetizers. Got the D11 Double Layer Milk Custard for dessert. It came with complimentary Kung fu tea in these small tea cups and tiny tea pots. Everything tasted great, especially the oyster pancake that has fish sauce to dip it with. Went to Chao Wei Ju tonight with friends and had a disappointing experience. We arrived around 8:20 pm and checked in with the front desk, who showed us the wait list and had us put our name down. When the host overheard that we wanted to order hot pot, she suggested we order right away since the restaurant closes at 9 pm. That was reasonable, so we rushed to place our order. We were seated quickly (within about 5 minutes), and the food came out fast and was decent. Initially, the waitresses were friendly. However, one waitress began hovering and repeatedly making comments such as "why aren't you eating," "why aren't you putting the food in," and "you came to eat, why aren't you eating." At first we thought she was just being chatty, but it became clear she was trying to rush us. She eventually told us we could pack the food to go, even though we were still actively eating. When one of my friends explained that we were still eating and asked why we were seated if we were going to be rushed, we noticed the same thing happening to other tables. By around 9 pm, everyone else had left except us. Since this is hot pot, there's really no way to speed up the process -- you have to cook and eat. After 9:20 pm, multiple waitresses were standing around our table waiting, which made the rest of the meal extremely uncomfortable. The pressure to leave completely ruined the dining experience. If you're not sure what to order, go for the House Special Beef Noodle Soup. I thought the Shacha Sauce Beef Ribs were the best dish of all. 4.5/5 Beef rib rice noodles ($15.98) here are a must try!! Chao wei ju is 潮汕 (Chao shan) food, which focuses on freshness, and you can taste here in the hot piping broth and fresh cut beef! They also serve complimentary tea if you're dining in. I always get the beef rib noodle soup because the ribs here are marinated and cooked in their house made satay (shacha) sauce. The noodles here are a soft, slightly wide rice noodle. (Just fyi if you're thinking of the round rice noodles.) There's a condiments station where you can get that housemade shacha sauce, garlic and chili sauce (also made in house) along with green onions and cilantro to compliment your dishes. They even sell the sauces in jars if you want to bring some home! The marinated white radish and beef tripes ($9.98) are also very flavorful. The raddish had soaked up all the meat flavors. I do wish the bowl for this item was bigger... In general, the appetizers can be smaller portion and some, like the oyster pancake (not a lot of oysters), doesn't do well in terms of value + taste. So it can be trial and error here. I've been to many restaurants with various personalities from waitresses but this one is by far the worst!! Our waitress rushed us to order even though half of the party wasn't ready. I told her to just put in the current order and we'll finish the rest later since half of us were still deciding. She kept insisting and gave side eyes though I repeatedly told her we didn't mind the wait if it came to it later on. Instead, she went to the other side of the table and consistently urged the other half to hurry up to choose. I found that very upsetting and definitely irritated my family and me because why was she in such a rude rush? It was even worse when she started cleaning our table when we weren't even done with our food. It really made it seem like she wanted us out of there. There were plenty of empty tables around the restaurant and mind you, there was no line!! So I genuinely don't understand why she specifically targeted our group and lacked patience! Regarding our food, it was decent (6.5/10). Their noodle soup tastes like a nice homemade meal and their house-made chili garlic oil definitely gives it a nice kick. ***I do want to highlight that their item A1 looks absolutely nothing like what they served us when compared to the menu.*** I grabbed a menu so that I could ask someone (not our waitress) if that was the same item (she said yes it's the same). I rarely leave bad reviews, but this was one of the worst dining experiences I have had. I understand that service at some Chinese restaurants can be straightforward, but this was downright rude. My mom and I ordered three dishes (two noodle dishes and one oyster pancake). The food was just okay and pretty bland overall. The only thing that helped was the shacha sauce--without it, the dishes had very little flavor. While we were only about 75% done eating and my mom was still actively eating with her chopsticks in hand, a server came over and asked if we wanted our food packed to go. I politely said no, that my mom was still eating. 1-2 minutes later, the bill was dropped on our table. We checked the time and realized we had only been there for about 25 minutes total, including ordering. There was no line and no one waiting for a table. 5 minutes later, another server came over and tried to clear the dishes while my mom was still finishing her food. First time trying out this place even though it has been around for a quite a few years. It's a clean and spacious environment. Parking spaces are very limited (way not enough comparing to the restaurant capacity). The noodle soups were great and they are so far the closest to the authentic chao zhou soup taste in town. However, skip the Special Chaozhou Platters. None in plate is a Chaozhou item and it is way over priced. This is an extreme disappointment. Service part got very interesting. The ladies were nice first, but we were rushed with the check when we were not even done with eating. Then the lady started cleaning our table while I was still eating my noodle. Our entire dining time from entering the door to them giving us the check was less than 20 mins. What is the rush?! I had to "inhale" my food when dining in your restaurant?! I got pretty upset and did not finish my food then left. Visited Chao Wei Ju with my sister this past weekend and it exceeded our expectations. We arrived at around 3pm and we were seated right away and given hot tea. Their menu is pretty extensive, main ingredient in a lot of their dishes is beef and fishball. They have two sauce stations where you can get onion, cilantro, chili oil, and their special sauce. The herbal chicken soup had amazing flavor, and there was a great complimentary Oolong tea, but portions were inconsistent, and I was disappointed. I dined in with my parents late afternoon on a weekend. Let's just say the expectations vs reality of the experience wasn't what we expected. Let's start with the good. Their complimentary Oolong tea set was a great start to the meal. Oolong tea is usually very rich and nutty, but this one was a bit more light and almost floral. I enjoyed it a lot! I also appreciated that they provided a sauce station for their diners (for sauce connaisseurs like myself that love to DIY their own sauce) that included fresh cilantro and green onion to compliment the meal. Now more of the fall-out. We ordered the Combo C Hot Pot, which was a herbal soup that came with marbled beef and chicken. Note the photo on their menu and online displays a full plate of beef slices and a whole chicken on it. Their menu text did indicate it was 1/2 a chicken, but our soup did not even have 1/4 of a chicken. The pieces were small and dainty; and a huge letdown from what was expected and what the photo displayed. Although the portion wasn't what was expected, I did enjoy the depth of flavor in the soup. I gotta say, it was what saved the whole experience. Also, the full plate of beef slices in the photo? We got 1/2 that portion in the photo. And all for $55, the Combo C Hot Pot is not worth it. There were a lot of waitresses working in the middle of the day, and they didn't all seem to be on the same page. Because our hot pot portion wasn't up to par, I asked about their Fried Beef Cube Skewers, how big it was, and if it was shareable. One of the waitresses told us it was 3 skewers and emphasized only 3 skewers, when their menu said 5 for $9.99. I ordered it anyway. They ended up bringing us 5 skewers instead (great) but the whole thing was confusing. When we asked that we thought it was 3 skewers, another waitress said it was 5. I mean, I will take 5 skewers, totally, but I can't help but remember another waitress specifically told us it is only 3 skewers. I can only laugh it off. Other than the confusion, the beef skewers were big cubes of beef, and seasoned to be a little smoky and spicy. The 5 beef skewers for $10 is worth the portion and the price. I will debate coming here for a second try and will probably try other dishes instead. read more

I then see why as they try to put in better quality, presentation etc to their food. I will say it was a bit better in effort and the whole kung du style tea set offering but for much more in their prices, I would expect much more including the ambiance which was not matching up to it. The food and tea may be of a bit better quality but flavor was mot much more of better flavor enough for me to pay more here to stick with the other mom & pops. The oyster pancake was good though and if you prefer blander soup bases, then this place is for you. Service was good but i would not say it's fancier either. Their parking is descent and enough as it's their own private parking lot. I wouldn't come back sadly as it is a bit costly for what i get and happy with my other go to places. Oh, and the tea is free! Many different choices on the menu, but mostly beef (different parts) and tripe. Most of them are flavorful- those with brisket and tripe have a heavier taste. Love their ribs! Very satisfying for cravings of meat. Service is the typical Chinese restaurant no-frill type - they don't do small talk or try to befriend their customers. The resulting broth was quite rich but not appetizing since it didn't fit either of our palates. We ordered a sampler that contained fried tofu, fried fish balls, and sauce. We also added kway teow for some carbs. I'm glad I did, otherwise we wouldn't have been too full. The sampler felt quite cheap with a high profit margin, and the meal didn't feel very filling or worth it. Service other than extra broth was pretty much nonexistent, and the restaurant felt like it was run to efficiency. Food in, food out, people in, people out.
