Love that Wee's has a following, especially bc Malaysian food can be hard to find. The ordering station is right at the front when you enter into Royal Blue Grocery. There wasn't anyone manning the station, so we were told to order online and wait. When we returned, our food was there but no one to thank or say hi to! There are two small tables inside and extra tables/seating on the patio outside. We took our food to go and the boxes survived the few blocks of a walk home. We got: - beef rendang - good, just a little hint of spice that was perfect. I'm not too big a fan of pickled veggies or shrimp chips so the accompaniments - char kway teow- very mild flavors but good for your less adventurous friends Overall, underwhelmed but glad they have a home downtown

Great spot! These were some dishes I've never really tried before, and they packed a lot of flavor. I'm glad I got this introduction to Malaysian food. Malaysian Spiced Wings - Big juicy wings, with some curry-like sauce, really delicious. Curry Laksa (vegetables) - I've only ever Laksa noodles in store bought ramen packs, and I thought they tasted very similar. EXCEPT, the curry laksa here just had much more depth of flavor. The kind of broth that tastes like its been stewing for hours rather than the ramen kind. Nasi Lemak (chicken) - Tasty dish, but wasn't the fan of the texture. I like a curry where there are different ingredients and textures, but this one was a bit too mushy. I still enjoyed the dish overall and the pickled veggies were a nice addition, but I'd proably try something different next time. Kaya Pandan Jam Toasted Croissant - I can't exactly describe what the kaya pandan jam tasted like, but it's really nice. Creamy, not too sweet, maybe a slightly earthy flavor. I really enjoyed it though.

It's moved. Their current and only location is now inside Royal Blue Grocery at 609 Congress Avenue. The grocery is small but very cool. It's got seating for five inside and additional tables outside. For beverages, Wee's offers an absolutely amazing Thai green tea, and you can also buy any beverage you want from the grocery store, including beer, wine or hard kambucha. There's a parking garage on the backside of the same block. But bring your smallest vehicle. It's tight and most of the spaces are compact spaces. Don't come here for the service, but for the food. We tried beef rendang. A chicken vermicelli bowl and a chicken satee plate. Everything was awesome. Fine dining Malaysian cuisine in a tiny grocery store!

I will admit we didn't explore much with this order, but it was still impeccable. The wings and satay were flavorful and juicy with amazing sauces and just the right amount of spice. Wee's will always feel like home cooked food, and despite it being in royal blue, their small corner has three two tops for people to use. Don't expect a dine in experience, but expect amazing food and the most amazing woman - if you're able to catch Wee when she's not hard at work!

Decent food. We ordered beef fried rice, beef vermicelli, beef rendeng, beef char kway teow, and sweet sour chicken. The char kway teow tasted the best. The service was great: very polite. It's literally inside a gas station store, and the store sign says Foodie's Kitchen. There are parking spaces outside the store. Three little tables. Best to take the food to-go.

Serving up delicious Malaysian food, Wee's Cozy Kitchen is the very definition of a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. Located inside a Shell gas station near the UT campus, this place is one of Austin's best kept secrets. The portions of food here are so generous, the service was friendly and accommodating, and there is seating available. I believe they're only open in the afternoons, but be patient as this is a two-person operation so you're guaranteed your food is made to order. And you won't be disappointed! The beef rendang was tender and flavorful. I would easily order this again. The seafood nasi lemak was filled with different kinds of protein, like shrimp and squid, and each bite carried a wave of satisfaction. Each of these entrees came with a side dish of dried anchovies, which provided a nice contrast, and cucumbers, for freshness. Not pictured is the kaya toast, which was my personal introduction to Malaysian food years ago. The flavor was nostalgic and delicious, although next time I'd probably have it as a toast instead of a croissant as I would much prefer the crunch. Don't forget to wash it all down with the green Thai tea! I can't wait to come back and try all their other offerings.

Wee's Cozy Kitchen is indeed that--a tiny space inside a Shell station in West Campus. Don't let the location fool you, it's the only place in town for decent Malaysian food. Wee, a really sweet person, is the only chef and cooks every dish herself. Be patient. When your order is ready, you'll know it's straight off the stove and piping hot. The char kway teow (fried rice noodles) is tasty. It's not exactly what I'm used to but if you love stir fried noodles, you'll like it. But omg, the beef rendang! Looove the beef rendang. Gonna order nasi lemak with chicken next as I find myself craving a taste of home. Happy to see that Malaysia's national dish is on the menu here. If you're looking for something different for dinner and want to support a local business, give Wee's Cozy Kitchen a try!

Been here for dinner twice and had a great experience both times! Came on a weekday and weekend evening and didn't experience any wait to order each time. With that said everything is made to order, and there is a super small staff, so I wouldn't come here in a rush. The staff is super friendly and very willing to help if you're unsure on what to order I've tried the Beef Rendang, Chicken Nasi Lemak, and Pandan filled Croissant. Both entrees are super flavorful and have a very different flavor profile from other Asian cuisines I've tried. I'd describe both dishes as rich and nutty, with the rendang leaning more rich and nasi lemak more nutty. Both are absolutely worth trying! They have a couple different filling options for the croissant/toast that I'm sure would also be delicious, but the pandan croissant was good enough that I had it for dessert both times. the filling is super creamy and reminds me a little bit of taro desserts I've had Particularly given its convenient location this has become one of my favorite spots in town. The novelty of having a sit down dinner at a gas station is fun, and the food is top notch.

It's a fun little eatery, housed with the Royal Blue Grocery. I wanted something small so I got the Roti Canai and the soup was delicious. It is peppery but not overwhelming. You can sit behind the cashier or along the counter. They're a chill group of people, Wee surprised me by coming out to meet me as I was receiving my order. What a nice personal touch to the customer experience! Check out this spot for Malaysian food and support a women-founded and women-owned business!

Located inside Royal Blue on Congress with minimal seating inside but lots of outdoor seating. All the food came out steaming hot and fresh. The Char Kway Teow w/ Chicken was good, but the chicken was salty and I would have liked more veges. I don't know if they do a spicy version, but it's quite bland spice wise. Flavor was good. 4/5 The Rendeng w/ Beef was good flavor but the beef was dry and chewy. Requested spicy but it was not spicy at all. I think they just don't do spicy? Flavor was good again but the meat did not taste freshly cooked to me. 3/5 The vege rolls were steaming hot but one of them came out burnt. 2 for $6 seems a bit steep imo. but had they not been burnt they would be a 4. 3/5

Wee's Cozy Kitchen has been on my radar for a while -- and I'm happy to report that it lived up to my expectations. :) My dad and I shared the beef rendang: the meat was tender and complex in flavor. It paired nicely with the rice, which tasted similar to the rice served in Hainanese chicken. The pickled vegetables added a refreshing, acidic contrast. And the peanuts, cucumbers, and shrimp chips was the cherry on top. The owner of the place was so sweet. She chatted with us a bit before going back to work. Truly, a humble joint that everyone should stop by if they are in downtown!

It's a quiet little place, but it's quick to fill up. I sat in the right hand corner which is tucked off. I like my spot cause I felt like I was in a noir vibe. So here's a quick lil announcement though. The wait for the apps was short, but the wait for my main dish was 15-20 minutes I don't think my wait is Normally that long but just a heads up. This is the cost of cheap but great quality food. For the appetizers I got the spicy shrimp and the steam chicken dumplings. They both came out really hot so be careful lol. Man the spicy shrimp was very delicious and spicy! But not too spicy for me because I'm use to it but if you're not a spicy veteran this does have a good kick. I loved the sauce and the lettuce, which i used pieces of it to scoop and eat my shrimp in whole. This is a 5/5 recommend The dumplings came out in a pair for like 4-5 dollars I think. It was very hot and soft. The only thing tho was that the meat inside the dumpling was a lil dry compared to a lot of Asian restaurants I've tried BUT it tasted good and was flavor. 4/5. I got the Ox tail Beef broth soup and the Nasi Padang. The ox tail was very good, it has its spices but it's a simple soup with the meat, the potatoes and chopped up tomatoes all thrown into the bowl, with wontons. I used the side chili they gave me, lime into the soup. It was so much to eat for me including the rice with the bowl. Of soup was a lot. Because it was ox the price was a bit high so like 19 which is reasonable. The broth was great, it's simple yet very delectable. The Nasi Padang, was a curry based plate with two types of meat, shredded beef and chicken, two different curry flavors. One was sweet and the other was tangy which was different. It wasn't my favorite but the ox tail definitely beat it. Overall this place was really good and something yall should doif you wanna eat out on budget but good.

And surprisingly, the main entree entree chicken wasn't dry and pretty flavorful. The steak was also cooked well - wish there was more flavor but the condiments complimented it very well. I would also get the umami wings (well cooked and great flavor). Service is A plus - the workers were all very attentive, personable, answered any questions we had. Chef Ling is a brilliant and personable chef who treats her chefs and staff like family. Several different chefs prepared each course, and the presentation was well beyond what we expected, both visually stunning and thoughtfully composed. From the moment we walked into Ling Kitchen, the energy felt warm and intentional. The space is intimate without feeling cramped, and you immediately sense that you are about to be part of something special rather than just another dinner reservation. Chef Ling personally welcomed guests, shared the story behind the menu, and checked in throughout the evening in a way that felt genuine and never forced. Each course built on the last, with a clear progression of flavors and textures. The fish was impeccably fresh, the knife work precise, and the seasoning balanced to highlight the natural ingredients rather than overpower them. You could see the coordination among the team as different chefs stepped forward to prepare and present their dishes. It truly felt collaborative, like a small culinary orchestra. What stood out most was the creativity. Traditional techniques were honored, but there were subtle twists and unexpected combinations that kept us curious and engaged. Every plate was composed like art. The pacing was perfect, allowing time to savor each bite and appreciate the craftsmanship. Beyond the food, the hospitality elevated the entire experience. The staff was knowledgeable, attentive, and clearly proud to be part of the team. That family atmosphere Chef Ling fosters is palpable and makes the evening feel personal. If you are in Austin and looking for a memorable omakase that rivals experiences in much larger food cities, Ling Kitchen is a must. This is not just dinner, it is a curated, immersive experience. I saved Ling Kitchen for a recent visit to Austin, reuniting with my college roommate. She has been before; I hadn't, but we both enjoy memorable meals and she said this was sure to please; it did not disappoint. I eat at fine dining around the world and I appreciate that Ling Kitchen is truly trying to carve their own path, not trying to fit a specific mold. It was refreshing and so welcome. You enter through the back of the kitchen (where the private parking lot is) and are taken to a prep area where you'll select drinks and have opening bites. You get a selection of champagne or a non-alcoholic option to start and get your first taste of the food (charcuterie on a rice cracker, yum). They have a decent wine and sake menu, but everything is by the bottle, so beware if you're a light drinker. We opted for a bottle of sake that was just the right amount for two to share for a 3-hour meal. The actual meal takes place in the kitchen itself, alongside the prep of the chefs working it. It's such a unique ambiance and different to the "open kitchen" setup I have done for other fine dining; you are truly in between the cold storage, the duck aging for future diners, etc. The low light & ambiance is beautifully arranged for a nice meal and they put all the special touches - down to LED camera lights for each diner so you can use to take photos of your food better! You can only make reservations in 2's or 4's for this spot and the table arrangement is really for diners to share a meal together. The food itself is extremely beautiful and so filling! I think this was the first time at a fine dining restaurant I literally could not finish all the food and had to make a few smart choices towards the end to have room to try it all! I think some dishes stood out more than others (the XO lobster tail, every single dessert, an eggplant dish they made to sub for the aged duck for me, and the king salmon with curry lahksa), and a few were aesthetically pleasing but otherwise lacked strong flavor (the dumplings, the steamed egg, a pan seared halibut that was a sub for wagyu). I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and more so enjoyed the storytelling and thoughtfulness of each dish and the overall service & hospitality experience. Chef Ling Qi Wu is introduces several dishes and is available to chat with guests throughout the meal. She noted the taro dish as one of her first dim sum items she had ever made and the salmon curry lakhsa as a home comfort dish for her. The desserts were themed around the four seasons - just so much thought put into the whole experience! They had the entire table introduce themselves and share what brought them there halfway through the meal and gave us the opportunity to walk around the kitchen, talk to chefs, try some elements used in later dishes like the fresh honey used in our desserts. They gave us a polaroid, branded chopsticks and a clean menu to commemorate the experience. Ling Kitchen is truly more than a fancy restaurant; it's a whole memorable dining experience, and I hope to return for a future special visit one day!

Loro is an Asian smokehouse and bar featuring grilled and smoked meats with Southeast Asian and Japanese-inspired sauces, sides, and a bar that boasts craft beer, boozy slushees, and batch cocktails. Parking at this location is a bit of a challenge. They have overflow parking in the back but the spots are really small. We sat at the bar area and worked our way through cocktails, apps, and dessert. We opened a tab and the bar staff takes your order which is convenient, versus how you normally have to order by waiting in line at the bar. The bar staff was extremely busy because they have to make all the cocktails and take the line orders at the bar. They are a master of multitasking. It was $3 martini night on Tuesday, so was excited to sample the four different drink options. lychee martini, Mexican martini, and Lucky Cat cosmo martini. Lychee martini is made with new amsterdam vodka, sake, elderflower, Mexican martini with espolon blanco, olive, yuzu, lime and cosmo with vodka, blood orange, naranja, lime. The lychee was hands down my favorite of the three. We started with the Dip Sampler that included a trifecta of smoked shishito queso, smoked salmon dip and Thai green salsa with the Siete blue corn tortilla chips. We went through the chips quickly and got a second round of wonton chips which I preferred to the Siete chips. Tried the Mango Chamoy frozen Slushee with Siete Chamoy Botana Sauce & Siete Chile Lime Seasoning Rim, passionfruit, Aperol, Sake and Sparkling Wine which was refreshing. All their boozy slushies are $5 during happy hour. Ordered the oak grilled edamame from the happy hour menu and it was a flavor explosion with a dusting of serracha powder, lemon zest and white sesame. For dinner, I ordered my go-to rice bowl with coconut-scented rice, seasonal pickles, thai herbs and steak as the protein. They normally served this with Bavette, but the steak was a bit tough and chewy this time. Finished everything off with cheesecake with five spice crumble, yuzu marmalade for dessert. The vibe at the bar was relaxed and lively without feeling overwhelming, and the collab menu felt creative without trying too hard. The ingredients are very thoughtful for a fully developed flavor profile. Just what I would expect from the culinary minds of Tyson Cole and Aaron Franklin. Definitely one of the regulars in my list when craving good cocktails with a casual but elevated food menu.

This is good for a group hang since everyone orders at the bar. Which is also one of the bad things…read moreabout Loro because as soon as you get there, you have to go to the bar to order or try to grab a table and wait for others to go to the bar and order while you hold the table and then you go up to the bar. They really need to implement QR ordering like they have in movie theaters. The food was well presented and creative. All of the dishes were a little bit on the saucy side and a little bit salty but good overall. If you go for dinner and sit outside, make sure you get one of the fly fans to keep the flies at bay otherwise they descend with a vengeance. $3 martini nights (but they can't do an NA martini) so it was pretty packed but I'm told it's always packed. Parking is a little difficult since there's so many people but it wasn't too bad. Just make sure you don't park at a store that's open or you will get a boot.

We ordered a variety of items. My favorites were the duck pancake and the soup dumplings. I will make a stop here every time I visit Austin if I can!

Fabulous experience! Our son made a weekday lunch reservation ahead of time. Highly recommend…read morereservations and the earlier, the better. Parking was limited behind the building and is shared with other businesses. This place was super cute! You can tell every decor detail was thoughtfully put together. The exterior building mural was amazing - Asian street scenes. Loved the cute Asian table cups, table decor, and the bathroom was another story lol, the toilet was a full on bidet. Toilet seat opened up automatically when I came up to it. And the paper towels were luxuriously thick and soft, not the cheap stuff. Our server was attentive, accommodating , and understanding. We told her of our special needs and she answered our questions. We all ordered from their lunch menu- which included choice of soup and steamed rice. I ordered the crispy shrimp with jalapeños. Perfect! Extra large plumpy shrimp with bits of sliced jalapeños and cooked veggies. Definitely not spicy or saucy. I enjoyed my choice of soup- egg drop, comfort soup for the soul. Our table shared an order of soup dumplings and shu mai. The soup dumplings were fabulous- an explosion of soup in each delicately wrapped package. Everyone at our table enjoyed their dishes! Overall, excellent food and service with cute decor!
