It is deeply disappointing that we feel compelled to write this review, especially given our long-standing and overwhelmingly positive experiences at West Coast Diesels' Sebastopol Road location. We've always appreciated the professionalism and expertise we've encountered there, and up until now, considered them our go-to diesel specialists. Let it be clear: this review is not a reflection of that team, but solely of the egregious experience we had at the Airway Drive location. From the very beginning, our dealings with the Airway Drive shop were marred by poor communication, extended delays, and a general air of disorganization that suggested either a lack of competence or a troubling disregard for customer service. Still, we remained patient--until the situation took a turn that was not only unprofessional, but wholly unacceptable. Upon arriving to retrieve our vehicle, I witnessed someone driving it toward the premises under the guise of a "test drive"--a process that should have been completed prior to our scheduled pick-up. More baffling was the bulky, black electric bicycle inexplicably loaded into the truck bed. Alarmed, I immediately rushed to the front office for answers. In the brief time it took me to walk in, the bike had vanished from the truck bed. When I confronted the staff, Jena informed me the truck had gone out for a final test drive and went to determine who had taken it. Moments later, Travis Coleman--co-owner of West Coast Diesels--came forward and casually admitted to using my vehicle to pick up a birthday gift for his son. His explanation? That it was "just a 7-mile" test drive, and "the truck runs great". As if the brevity of the distance somehow excused the gross violation of trust. Even more troubling was the fact that the odometer showed 33 miles had been added (from when it was dropped off)--well beyond what would be considered standard for any diagnostic test. One week = 33 miles Let's be clear: this was not a test drive. This was a co-owner of the business using a client's property for personal errands without permission, without disclosure, and without remorse. That Mr. Coleman felt entitled to use our vehicle as if it were his own--especially under the flimsy pretense of a family-related errand--is deeply unsettling and entirely unprofessional. It begs the question: if the ownership is comfortable doing this, what other ethical boundaries are being crossed behind closed doors? This incident alone is enough to erode any confidence in the shop's integrity. But unfortunately, it was not the only issue. Our vehicle sat in their care for a full week for what should have been a relatively routine repair. We received no proactive communication--every update had to be requested--and were met only with vague excuses about being "down technicians." While staffing challenges are understandable, poor planning and dismal communication are not. As a customer, it is not our job to chase down answers or accept delays without accountability. In light of this experience--especially the unauthorized use of our vehicle by a business owner--we will never be returning to the Airway Drive location of West Coast Diesels. If you value professionalism, honesty, and basic respect for your property, think twice before entrusting this shop with your vehicle. Disappointment doesn't begin to cover it. I'll start with the pros: Friendly staff Good communication both in person and through their texts and web sources The cons are the rest of my experience with the Airway West Coast Diesels. I brought in my 1992 7.3 IDI for diagnosing a blinking OD light. This is indicative of a sensor issue, a common problem mentioned in hundreds of forums. I asked them to diagnose this problem. They said for $200 (their hourly rate) they would pull codes and give me a run down of what the truck needs. Great, let's do it. I get the estimate back and it's $7000 to start, mostly suspension components. Mind you, this vehicle was towed in for an erratic shifting issue. I approved $1000 in repairs for a leaky fuel bowl and topping off the transmission fluid and replacing a transmission line. They also rewired a FIPL sensor harness. They came back and said they can't read the codes because the check engine light isn't coming on, and is likely a burnt out bulb. They noted that the wait to start light was not illuminating, and already had the dash opened up to replace that bulb. Then they let me know that they found metal shavings in the transmission fluid (a very minute amount) and that their transmission shop recommended rebuilding or replacing the transmission (with 150k miles)- for $4500-7000. Another $100 later for a new bulb to pull codes, and they let me know that the FIPL sensor was wired incorrectly and that they "found" a broken glow plug. As far as I know, all 8 glow plugs were in one piece when it came in there, and they were the ones that just re-wored the FIPL sensor. I approved replacing all glow plugs and rewiring the FIPL sensor (again). Now it shifts "better" but still hard. After some adjustments they said it was shifting through all gears normally, but there were still codes, likely due to the FIPL sensor. So I came down, and was going to replace the FIPL sensor myself. Their parts premium was 200%- they wanted $100 for a $30 sensor. They also wanted an hour of labor to unscrew two screws, pull the easily accessible sensor, and replace and calibrate. Calibration involves sticking a multimeter and a paper click on the sensor and rotating it-a 10 minute job if that. I said I will take the truck back. After paying $2000 I still had a truck with a bad FIPL sensor and poor shifting. I had to have it towed away again. When I got in the truck, I noticed as I had since day one of owning it, that there was no check engine light. I was pretty sure that these trucks came from the factory without one, and I was just charged for replacing the bulb in that as they needed it to pull codes. This was not true, they needed an OBD1 reader, a common shop tool. I had previously told the tech this over the phone, but was assured that they had no way of reading codes without the check engine light. So, my experience was a lack of knowledge on diagnostics and repair of older diesel trucks. From what I saw, if you want to lift your 2024 Duramax and make it roll coal, this is the place for you (providing you have very deep pockets). If you would like to diagnose and repair your older diesel pickup, I recommend finding a different shop. Had they had their way I would have been out $13k for a 1992 pickup and it still wouldn't be shifting right. Oh, and this truck was in their shop for over a month. read more

They either didn't use new parts or are incompetent and didn't install my pitman arm correctly, because they forgot to install the bushing and the arm failed eventually. When I called and told them what happened, they said they couldn't guarantee their work since I towed my truck to my local mechanic first to diagnose the problem. read more

This shop will take your money, cripple your truck and lie to your face. Spent thousands with this shop to install a Banks system on my truck. Got my truck back and it was blowing smoke. Suddenly its burning oil horribly, over 7 quarts in less then 6 thousand miles. They tell me they can't find anything wrong but also manage to fix the smoking issue. Then I can't figure out why I have low boost and high EGTs. 13psi boost on a full banks system and EGTs going to 1150-1200degrees just driving around. I pop the hood. Bolts are literally falling out of my turbo. So I bring it back again. I'm told by the owner, Bill, those numbers all totally normal and to be expected AND that my gauges are wrong. Bill tells me one of the other owners personally checked the truck out, test drove it and got 19psi on the MAP sensor. So they got 4psi boost and are trying to pass it off like everything is fine. I get it home and I can push one of the intake band clamps around with my finger. I pulled the turbo myself and rebuilt it. Here is what I found: 1. The brand new compressor wheel was destroyed. 2. The bolts holding the turbo together are so loose I removed them without a wrench. 3. Some of the intake band clamps were so loose they moved freely. 4. Big Head Wastegate turnbuckle was set to half the proper preload and it was missing the E-clip. 5. Down pipe was welded so short that it wouldn't even reach the turbo flange while jacking it up into place. 6. Exhaust leak between up pipe manifold and turbo housing. Now that I've rebuilt it, I actually get 20psi of Boost and 35psi on the MAP. My EGTs never reach 1000. No oil consumption. Additionally: They charged me for the two gallons of oil my engine lost. I have already directly contacted Bill about this and demanded a refund for the job. Bill asked my over and over how I want to procced. For the 10th time Bill: I want my money back. read more

Unless you're a) knowledgeable about your vehicle, and b) willing (& have the time) to be a complete nag every. single. day, don't waste your time. It's one thing for an estimate to be nothing near the final bill (unexpected findings happen sometimes), but when it's thousands of dollars off and you're stuck with no choice but to allow the half-finished work to be completed, it can leave a bad taste in your mouth. Additionally, when a 1-week job turns into 6-7 weeks and you have to become a complete a**hole to get your vehicle back, the entire experience turns sour. It was one excuse after another, mostly because of a backordered part being on order, then we learned from an employee (off the record) that the shop had had the part for weeks but CHOSE to put other customers' jobs first because they were seen as more important. Stay away! This shop is a scam and ripped me off. My truck is a west coast diesel build (was owned by workers there) and I needed my transmission gauge fixed. They charged me 650.bucks to change my gauge cluster (5 min job) and didn't fix Guage for transmission. In fact it didnt do anything. So after calling back.they let.me.know they are busy and can't see me until a month later! Then I had to keep calling them to ask when they can get my truck in. I'm a busy plumber and driving all the way from SF city for this shop. So after 2 months I disputed charges and got my money back. They never even called me back after 2 months. Now Im taking them to small claims court and have another mechanic to confirm they didnt fix my truck. These guys are real shady people who don't care about you or your truck and are laughing at their customers who let them rip them off. they have the sought after code readers and charge a hefty $250 to read your codes, still $100 less than the dealers, but REALLY, they see your need and capitalize; then they give you a sheet of variety things to fix that really don't need fixing; $8,000-$10,000 later everything is nearly dealer fix prices; claim that they'll work on your truck, but once it's there, forget who you are, because your truck sits while they find time to get to it, they remember how much you're spending (bells and whistles) , lower paying, back of line, fix everything go to front line, no matter, "get me?" If you have lots and lots money, do every needless thing, front line. I should make $100k year being their diesel mechanic, but not really into this type of behavior, If you fix nearly everything, you'll have a diesel truck with a ton of miles on it, likely to spend more $ soon, your truck value goes down with miles and time REALLY, but the point is you have a lot of money, go to them if that's who you are, keep your old polluter on the road read more

I read a review of how they charge for reading the codes. I think that's the farthest from the truth. I brought it in twice before to have them read the codes and they did it at no charge. I was going on a long distance trip and wanted to make sure it was safe to drive. After reading the codes, they confirmed that my truck was safe to drive and could get it repaired upon my return. I want to thank West Coast Diesels. These guys are a top notch crew. From the owners to the mechanics to nice young lady at the front. Totally Awesome. Let me tell you why. I own a Ford F-350 6.0 couple days ago a lost # 4 injector. And my clutch fan or some call coolant fan. At the at the end of the month I'm going to hook up my 34 ft rv. And hit the road for a while . I gave my 30 Day notice at my storage facility so I had to have my RV out by the 30th. With my injector out and And my coolant fan out I was in quite a predicament. When I told West Coast diesel my predicament they were very nice in trying to help me with my predicament. They were booked till the first week of December. But they got me in the next day.
