This company as a whole has the worst management. The treatment the employees are given by their managers, to include their HR is awful. Time off is denied for employees but for managers, that's always approved. I will not support an establishment who treats their employees less than. This location has some really great employees (NOT MANAGEMENT) but employees that have great customer service but I refuse to continue and support this store who takes advantage of their hard working employees. I don't know how to start so I will say this. The workers there need to be treated better. I have gone in multiple times and every single time one of the young ladies (Sol, Cece, or Mariah) at the register help me, they always seem to be sick. Are they allowed sick hours? Can they call off of work? UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Mariah helped me and she had no voice, meaning she COULD NOT talk at all! Sol was completely under the weather, she had mentioned to her coworker she was going to call off work but was denied. How is that possible?? Mariah, Cece and Sol can be coughing, sneezing, congested even and are at the front ringing people out and greeting them. I feel terrible for them! Lack of manners. Lin and Mariah C have probably the worst customer service to ever exist! Lin always gives me attitude for not having my Port Supply card ready for when I get to the front, I don't know if she notices, clearly I am busy shopping for what I need! I can't always have everything ready. She always tries to force customers to join memberships even when they repeatedly tell her no. In my opinion, very disrespectful. Mariah C (store manager) probably one of the WORST store managers I've ever seen. Lets start with her having sick workers working! Cannot believe I am leaving a SECOND bad review on this place, I went in the other day to pick up an online order because I was so tired of driving over and being let down by how under stocked they are, first thing I noticed was the cashier Lin had a very long line and was just standing there arguing with a customer who had a question about hardware, she ended up sending him to the dollar tree next door for some reason??? After that happened she looked at me and said with a very nasty attitude "what? Can I help you? What do you want" and I told her i was there for an online order and she looked at me and rolled her eyes, she then looked at the rack they have for maybe 2 seconds and threw her hands up and said "well its not here so I don't know what you want me to do about it" I then gave her my name again and my order number and she scoffed and called over the walkie for it, mike had came over to me after about 2 minutes of waiting and asked if i needed any help or had any questions which was very very nice of him and I said I needed help with an online order, he then checked all the cubbies and even the slips they have on the side and after a bit he said he was not able to find it however he will ask someone to get the item for me, after a few more minutes a lady named Shary handed me my item and with a similar nasty attitude to Lin's she said "is there anything else I can help you with or are you all good?" And before I could even speak she just walked away. It is very upsetting how disrespectful Lin and Shery were, Mike is an A+ employee along with Alex, Mariah and Kimberly. I've been to this store so many times now. West Marine is that store that if you know you need something for your boat or marine related needs, they will have it. It probably will be overpriced LOL, but even if you just go there to get an idea for something that you end up purchasing elsewhere, you know west marine is a good store to at least get your baseline ideas. They have everything from boat parts to pet accessories for water activities, food/drink/ servingware, wine tumblers, deck throw blankets (they're so soft and cozy!), water sport clothing, boat shoes, polarized sunglasses, etc. I have purchased a good amount of things from the store over the past years and will definitely keep doing so. As far as service, it's a bit hit or miss so I would probably suggest researching or talking to others before you go in to look for whatever you're interested in. read more

West Marine - Boating Near Me - Port Hueneme, California

They run the classic bait and switch. I ordered TAHE 13'5" Borneo Sit-On-Top Double Kayak on clearance for $475.66 (see attached screenshot of confirmation email). One day later I received notification that the kayak was backordered, but that it would be shipped as soon as it was available (screenshot attached). I checked the website and the item was listed as "backordered" which was fine as I was happy to wait. Then, on September 15th I received notification that my order had been cancelled because it was "no longer available" (screenshot attached). However when I again checked the website, the item was now IN STOCK at the price of $809.99 (see screenshot. I included the date from my computer in the screenshot so you can see I took it literally one day after West Marine claimed it was "no longer available"). This is a classic bait and switch and illegal as I understand it. The customer service representative refused to honor the orig price and even claimed that if I ordered at the new price I would never get it because they would never ship that kayak anyway... wtf?? so now we are adding false advertising to the mix since the website clearly states in stock and 4-7 days delivery to my store. It is in stock in some stores, they just refuse to ship between stores. While this activity is illegal it isn't worth the hassle of pursuing and I am sure they are fully aware of that at this shady company. It is a bummer as I just purchased a yacht and had plans to spend literally thousands of dollars at West Marine this year and in the years to come, as the Channel islands store is so close to my slip and their prices appeared to be very competitive. But you can not trust them to honor their advertised price. I will unfortunately have to take my business elsewhere, even if it means I have to wait a little longer for my items. Great product and great customer care department however my issue is how this $239 fishing rod and reel combo was shipped to me. I attached a photo. They could have used a rod tube or doubled the boxes, but this to me was a joke. And yes this is exactly how it arrived, no padding, reel slapping around in the box and 3 feet of rod tip hanging out to be broke, with no added measure to protect the tip. How does this store stay in business? Brilliant selection of goods, while at the other end of the scale you have the staff. I went to the register to pay for an item I selected. The lady behind the till was "chatting". Eventually, she glanced at me and told me to got to the front of the store and pay for my goods. So I did, or, tried. Two cashiers, two customers and a line forming fast. Both checkouts bogged down because the staff did not know what the heck they were doing. Enter the chatterbox staff member to assist. No progress! Enter staff member number four. Now we have four employees behind the counter and no movement in the line. The fourth employee pulls me out of the line to ring me up at the register I started out at. Only to get shut down by Ms. Chatterbox. Ten minutes in line with four employees unable to process a transaction is beyond inept. I had enough. The customer service in this store is horrible and the employees have no clue about anything related to boats. Today they wouldn't let me return an item purchased there because they couldnt find the transaction, then the red headed girl that was helping me couldn't find the info for the regional port supply rep. I doubt that she could've found anything that I asked for. After being a port supply customer for 10+ years and spending over $3000 at West Marines up and down the west coast in the last month, it seems crazy to me that they wouldn't give me store credit for an item they stock on the shelf. Went in to buy a Raymarine e97 GPS. Most the staff were nice but impatient and un-knowledgeable about their products. Demonstration with the Raymarine e95/e97 immediately went bad with an angry, impatient, indifferent, frustrated employee. Dunno if this guy was the manager,, we didn't ask, we just wanted to leave and we ran. Don't see us returning to this store. Poorly stocked. Bought an item on-line. When I got the item, I didn't need it anymore so I thought I will drive here and save the headache of returning it on-line. Drove almost an hour to the store only to find out their computers had just gone down on a Saturday. After waiting 2 hours cause they said it would only be a little while, their computers never came up and the store manager said their was nothing she could do. Some folks are dedicated boaters and want to help, others are just working a job and will probably be at an electronics store in a couple months. Particularly annoyed today when they operated a 'bait and switch' on a kayak, showing a Fenzy kayak on their Kayak listing on the showroom floor at $251. The one in stock had a tag listing it at $499. I bought one a month ago at $251. Two different scans but no obvious distinction other than manager saying 'This is the new model'. Really? Exactly the same as the old model I just bought. Ultimately he said inventory showed Hawaii had one at that price but I would have to pay shipping to CA. Really? Where do you disclose that? This is classic bait and switch, and is illegal. If the low price is a mistake, the manager did not back down from it, saying the placard showed all his kayak prices and I could get if for that from HI (plus shipping). His offer of a 5% discount will not make it legal. Shameful practice if corporate West Marine backs this up. Folks, support your local Chandlery. If that doesn't work, search online.
