Galaxy Diner was a dandy restaurant we visited during our recent trip to NYC. The first thing you notice is the awesome decor around the restaurant including but not limited to the awesome space painting on the ceiling. Very very cool. Anyway once you look at the menu you see it's very expansive with both all day breakfast and dinner options. We started with an appetizer of wings for me and toasted ravioli. The wings were good and kind of unique with the sauce being kind of cook into the wings making it tasty. The raviolis were quite good as well. For my main course I tried the Bacon Ranch Chicken Burger which came with a huge crispy chicken cutlet, bacon, creamy ranch sauce, on a toasted kaiser roll and served with seasoned fries (lettuce actually comes on the sandwich too but I had it taken off). The chicken was EXCELLENT and the ranch and bacon really worked with it (I would've liked a little more ranch but I love heavy sauce on my sandwich most of the time.) The fries were excellent too. The service was very good and the prices were very reasonable. All in all an excellent lunch in the middle of Manhattan. read more

Another trip to NYC and another visit to Galaxy Diner. I really think this is one of the best and most reasonable breakfast options in the area. The portions are huge, the service is amazing and it is right on 9th ave. I forgot what a great spot this is if you're looking for a classic diner. On our way in we were kindly greeted and sat immediately. For $14 I got the breakfast special of 2 eggs, turkey sausage, home fries, toast, OJ and tea! Waitress was so nice and attentive. Food came out pretty quickly and everything was delicious. Seriously, I need you to know where they're buying their turkey sausage from because this was so good it tasted like pork. The breakfast menu is huge (I was kinda overwhelmed)! Plenty of options from classics to some out there creations. Despite being full on a Saturday at 9am they found room for us. It mostly seemed like tourists, but I would not call it a tourist trap. We found the "locals" diner! This place has got a good amount of seating for being a diner in NYC. My husband had their regular house coffee, which is PHENOMENAL. I gave it a try and it really is one of the best coffees I have had. Their potatoes are unbelievable and I definitely cannot replicate their technique at home. The crabcakes Benedict was chefs kiss! I came to this place after seeing a post about "saving your local diners." Boy, do I regret it. The manager, Steve, was one of the rudest people I've ever encountered. When I asked to sit in a booth, he didn't explain or politely decline...he just pointed at a small table without saying a word, despite multiple booths being empty, and despite us having bags that wouldn't fit at such a small table. Later, that same booth was given to two men, and Steve even took the time to help them with their suitcases. He literally took the suitcases from them and carried them himself over to a separate area so they had more room. It felt like they were getting more respect due to them being men. Came here with some friends. We were so hungry that we started eating before taking pics. This is a very classic diner with comfort food. Our waitress was very friendly and she cracked a couple of jokes. It wasn't super packed but still had a light bustle. Some of the items come with a fresh press juice. I would recommend buying the juice either way because it's so good. We got it with a glass of ice and poured the juice into it and it's super refreshing on a hot day. Everyone loved the Eggs Benedict. I got a grilled cheese and a tasted exactly like grilled cheese (delicious). They did put an oddly large amount of tomatoes in my grilled cheese, but it's fine because I just took them out. I would make this my regular spot if it wasn't so far away from me. I was looking for new breakfast place to try since I always go to Westway Diner for breakfast. Surfing the net I stumbled across this place and I did a huge mistake I didn't Yelp it to see there reviews because if I did have I would've never came here. We were sat quickly as soon as we arrived. They sat us right in front of a fire exit. Looking at the menu compared to Westway diner. Westway has WAYYYYY more options for WAYYYYY better prices. But it's not about the prices I don't mind paying if the food and service is good. Well let's start with the service it sucked really bad nobody was attentive. They don't even have there bottled drinks, soft drinks, coffees or lattes listed on there menu. I guess you're supposed to drink what they do have listed which is only their fresh juice or smoothies. I have never seen that in my life in a restaurant. But anyway when the waiter did acknowledge us he took our order really pushy in a rush and looked annoyed for no reason we didn't even ask 1 question and he already looked like he was super annoyed. Now the food when that food came out it looked the way it tasted just bad. My GF had the chorizo wrap. It should've been an egg wrap cuz it had like 2 little pieces of chorizo. Bland egg watery cold just gross. I had the pancake with bacon now how the hell u mess up pancake and bacon if you're a diner. That's like your main thing I would think PANCAKES! The pancake tasted gross the worst pancake I had in my life bland and the inside wasn't cooked properly. The bacon chewy and cold. Then it doesn't help that one of the workers opens the fire escape door and leaves it open while we're sitting right in front of it making our food colder then what it was. Oh and my GF Snapple that we order from there "secret menu" that they don't have listed in there menu was expired. This place has to be the nastiest place I had in my life. I usually take leftover home to give to my dog but I wouldn't even feed that to him. I don't know how this place is open but it surprises me because lord have mercy. This place has to be TOP 1 nastiest breakfast place I've ever had. Bad service, bad food. The place it's self in the front is spacious but in the back is just cramped up like there's no space. I'm not even done there yet. I didn't even eat my food I nibbled on the pancake. I left all my food. After having to wave and holler to try and get my waiter attention to get the bill. He gives us the bill leaves us sitting there waiting 15 mins. And after me having to try and get him to acknowledge us he tells us "you pay in the front" with a nasty attitude I guess we were suppose to know that already. Then this is what PISSED ME TF OFF. We go to hostess to pay the bill the guy is having a convo with someone and doesn't even acknowledge us. Then he looks at us, See us waiting for him to charge us and turns back around and continues his conversation. I wanted to say something so badddd then he turns around again goes and do something else and with an attitude charges us. Idk what the hell we did but this place is INSANE! Anyways! This PLACE SUCKS! I would recommend McDonald breakfast or a bacon egg and cheese from your local deli then eating from here. Never again! Classic New York diner! My husband lived in the city for over 30 years. When we started dating, I lived out of town, but frequently came into town to visit him. We have seen my fair share of New York City diners, & this is one of our favorites. The weekend host has been the same over the last 10 years that we have been visiting & no matter how busy they are, we always are able to get a table within 5 minutes of showing up. We always go for breakfast or brunch & have never been disappointed. One of my favorite things about them (as an RN) is how seriously they took Covid precautions during the height of the pandemic. My wife, daughter, and I stopped in on a Monday morning for breakfast and had no issues securing a table. We met her at the Intrepid and walked a few blocks over. It's a basic diner that with good service and average, typical diner food. Nothing creative on the menu. Speaking of menu...make sure you sanitize your hands afterwards because they are sticky. I had the French toast with bananas and strawberries and a side of turkey sausage. My wife had a mushroom omelette, and my daughter had the egg white omelette with veggies. The French toast was basic white American bread and nothing fancier. The sausage was three tiny links and cooked a while ago. As coffee snobs, I would say the coffee was drinkable. Our meals came out fast and cooked fresh. Nothing special and just a basic breakfast. Service was good and the prices were to be expected since it was NYC. I have come here twice with groups of friends after church. The interior is pretty spacious, and there is a decent amount of booth seating. There are cool depictions of galaxies and night sky with stars on the ceiling. On my first visit here, I was thinking of getting the brunch special, which included coffee and juice. However, I was craving a milkshake, so went with the Hazelnut Blast Shake, along with a bacon and cheddar cheese omelette, served with home fries and toast. The milkshake consisted of hazelnut coffee, vanilla ice cream, as well as chocolate protein. The milkshake was enjoyable with satisfying hazelnut and rich coffee taste, creamy smooth, as well as thick. The omelette was pretty good, loaded with bits of bacon and melted cheese on top. However, the egg lacked a bit in flavor. It was also quite dense and very heavy. I also found myself longing for a vegetable component, to add a bit of freshness. It would have been better if could choose 3 ingredients, instead of only 2. I was much more impressed during my second visit. My friend and I shared 2 brunch special dishes, so we were able to try both savory and sweet. We chose the Cotija Guacamole, Asparagus & Chorizo Eggs Benedict cooked with a sauce made out of honey, chipotle, and lime sauce. This was served with home fries mixed with peppers, onion, and plenty of spices. Even though I'm not usually a fan of guacamole, it really worked well in this instance. I particularly liked the chorizo, which was well seasoned, juicy, and succulent. The addition of the cheese, perfectly cooked asparagus, tangy sauce, runny eggs, made for mouthwatering bites. We also had the Nutella Pancakes with strawberries and bananas, along with a sprinkling of powdered sugar. The pancakes were wonderfully fluffy, light, and moist. There was also a decent amount of Nutella on top of the pancakes, and this paired beautifully with the fruit, pancake, and finally, maple syrup. Service was great both times. The servers are friendly and on top of it. The brunch specials are a great deal at less than $20, including tax and tip. Galaxy Diner is solid all around. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is that they charge a fee for using credit card. We went multiple times and ordered a variety from their menu. You can even check yelp for old menu items and ask if they can still make it for you now! They are accommodating. The interior is... interesting LOL the ceiling looks like stars (hence, galaxy). But other than that, it just look like a regular diner (hence... diner). The spaghetti is a good safe choice, can't go wrong. Grilled cheese and chicken tenders were also good. Carbonara was def a guilty pleasure. Omelet was average. Potatoes were good tho. Got a Mexican rice and quesadilla plate (off menu) which was delish! read more

My favorite diner experience in the area. Pricing is pretty reasonable and the menu has plenty of breakfast/sandwich/pasta options without being too long or overwhelming. I came by for dinner. It wasnt too busy, just a handful of people dining alone or small groups. I got the creamy pesto penne, which came with soup of the day (chicken orzo). Trying to find a place to have breakfast Sunday morning at 10 a.m. is not easy. Every place had an hour wait. We're visiting from out of town and a passerby on the sidewalk asked if we needed directions. We asked for a recommendation a place to eat and he said "I always go to the Galaxy Diner." Can't refuse a recommendation from an authentic New Yorker! The Galaxy Diner was also very busy but they were able to squeeze Us in at the counter. Dining here felt like a great New York City experience. The coffee was hot. Breakfast portions very large and served hot. Potatoes super delicious. And everything priced reasonably.
