I have been going to this diner for over 15 years with my in-laws. Staff is amazing, the food is terrific, and I always leave there happy.

This is a traditional-style diner in an area with a lot of different shopping options. Pros: - The food was pretty good! And they give large portions - Price is pretty low, ~$30 before tip for brunch for 3 - Staff is friendly - It was dead silent when we first got there, so definitely a quiet atmosphere Cons: - While our waitress was sweet, she checked in around 7 times. At times she was hanging around our table just watching us eat (not in a weird way, more like she was bored). It was still awkward regardless. - Once other people (all white) started coming in, the vibe completely changed. Many people asked to not be seated near us. But they still stared and pointed at us. And if I walked past their table to use the bathroom, they whispered asking why my group was there. It is not the restaurant who's to blame, but was still very uncomfortable for my group (all people of color). I used to work in this area so I'm surprised by this treatment since it has a lot of diverse traffic due to the stores nearby. I probably won't visit again. This is my second review in as many years. The previous visit was again with in-laws. The service was excellent, and the staff practically fell over themselves to go above and beyond. They remembered drink and food orders from recent visits without missing a beat. Fast forward to today, which happens to fall on Columbus Day. I was visiting a friend in the hospital across the street, and decided to see if they'd improved their service. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a charming hostess who gave me the option of counter seating or a booth. After being sat, that's where things became uncomfortable. While it was reasonably busy, no one bothered to come over and take my order. I wasn't even given the courtesy of a simple "I'm extremely busy, but I'll be over to take your order soon". After several minutes, I set a timer on my phone. At the 10 minute mark, which had been roughly 15 in total, I calmly got up and walked out. Even if my family and friends decide to give this establishment business in the future, I will continue to encourage patrons to go elsewhere. I'd like to think that race wasn't a factor, but this being the second time this happened, I cannot afford to be so naive. The Ridge Diner continues to give fast, courteous service, and that's where I'll continue to give patronage. read more

I think I should've read the reviews before coming here. The waitress seemed distracted and wanted to be anywhere else except at the diner serving people. I ordered breakfast two eggs with hashbrowns bacon and toast. The serving of eggs was thin and skimpy. The bacon had a strange off taste to it. The hashbrowns were mostly soggy and tasteless. The toast was bombed with too much butter. If they can't even get breakfast right you know you should stay away from lunch and dinner items. I walked in here after my hot yoga class without reading any of the reviews because well.... this was the first place that caught my attention and we were starving. With diners in NJ, I ONLY go for breakfast food, no matter what time of day. I've never seen a diner completely mess up breakfast. Lunch and dinner yes, which I think 90% of the really negative reviews point to. For me, diners exist for breakfast, and this place gets the job done. For under $10, the breakfast specials get you juice, coffee, potatoes, and eggs. We stayed pretty safe and just got an omelette and standard eggs and bacon. The food was pretty decent. Not fantastic, but exactly what I would expect at a diner. Service was good - they kept the coffee flowing. I will say though, this diner is pretty depressing. Maybe some music might help?! Lots of people dining alone, sad, and lonely. Don't come here expecting a great chicken parm or dinner. DO come here for their breakfast specials. Solid diner in the area. read more

Sorry to have to give a big thumbs down to the Westwood Diner. I've been a customer for decades. Yesterday was the last straw for this declining, once excellent diner. I ordered a turkey club with French fries (15.95) via Grubhub, something I have done many times before. When the order arrived I received plain turkey sandwich on a crumbling Kaiser roll with a sorry looking piece of lettuce. No fries. I called the restaurant and they insisted that it was my fault. They said I ordered a plain turkey sandwich and not a turkey club. If you look on the attached photo from Grubhub, I chose the turkey club, as I have multiple times. We argued back and forth and they kept insisting it was my fault. They offered no solution or accommodation to correct their error. I finally hung up and contacted Grubhub customer service via their app. With a few clicks and without question or finger pointing, Grubhub instantly refunded $17.01 (including tax and service fee.) Grubhub knows how to treat their customers right. Also included in this order was an English Burger (a char-broiled, thick and juicy 12oz burger on a jumbo pita with bacon, smothered with layers of American cheese and a side of French fries.) Their description sounds yummy, but instead I got an overdone, dried up burger on burnt pita bread with tired, soggy bacon. So this whole order was a big disappointment. Any restaurant can serve a bad item or make a mistake now and then. But a good restaurant will try make amends when their mistakes are pointed out and not blame their customer and do nothing. So I ordered the western omelet and asked the waiter if they had red peppers instead of green and his response was "I'll ask but not sure if they had red peppers". I also asked for the home fries to be well done as well as the bacon (side order). Bacon was the best part of the meal. The home fries looked to be pre-cooked and were just sitting on the grill to be ordered (they were not well done). The waiter never came back to let me know if they had red peppers and just brought me my western omelet with green peppers in it (ugh, if I would've known I would've most likely changed my order) and don't even get me started with all that oil in the coffee. 2 Stars cause service is mediocre at best. No one at the door to greet us we sat ourselves and waiter never asked if everything was ok. Probably won't come back especially since there are better diners in the area. This was my first visit to Westwood Diner Pancake House. It was a Saturday at 10:45am after a 5K race in nearby Harrington Park. I took a seat at the counter. Just popped in this evening for a quick dinner. My son had silver dollar pancakes with bacon. He ate the entire dish because the pancakes were very soft and moist. My turkey triple decker was OK, very plain and basic but bacon was crispy, turkey was fresh and it was prepared right away. Overall it was perfect for us. I love Greek, Jersey Diners but this place should be avoided. Server did not hear my order. I ordered a Greek Salad, no Pita Bread (Which they dont have anyway). Olives on the side and anchovies. They do not have anchovies. She brings out an egg salad sandwich. Tells me its my fault. I tell her I would not order anchovies for my egg salad sandwich. She yells and carries on in ear shot of me with other people. I kept cool and decided it wasnt worth it. The salad was mediocre at best. And the slip said 11.95 and the guy charged me 13.95. I only left a tip because I felt sorry for the server. She'll be out of work when the place closes down. Just went for family breakfast today. I have to say that compared with the prices that I am used to its a little expensive. But the food was still good and the service was great. I had this waitress ( should have asked for her name) who was very friendly and had a great sense of humor. She had the kind of personality that even though you first met her she made you feel like you have known her for years. Breakfast for everyone was great. Food was good, came out quick. This diner is great! To start, my mom and I had coffees, which were just alright. My boyfriend had orange juice, which he said was good. They brought us out complementary muffins, which was a nice touch. They were good. I got the buttermilk pancakes, which were also good. My boyfriend got chocolate chip pancakes, my dad got blueberry pancakes and my mom got banana pancakes. They all said their meals were good. The portions were also very large. What is wrong with diners in jersey? When making an omellete the stuff goes INSIDE the eggs. Not on top, not on the outside, not mixed in the eggs, and not on the side. This place gets the cheese inside but somehow adheres the stuffing to the outside. The patriotic pancakes (blueberry, banana and strawberry) were pretty good. The bacon was not good. I came here with a large group of cyclists over the weekend. The menu is typical diner fare, no surprises on the menu. The staff was friendly and efficient. We took up two tables and there was about 10 of us. We placed food and drink orders and the drinks were out immediately and the food was not far behind. I have no idea how they cooked everything so quickly. The staff also came around frequently to refill water glasses, etc. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food and we got a smattering of breakfast fare: pancakes, eggs, potatoes, toast, etc. I got a blueberry muffin, which was sort of stale and a slice of chocolate layer cake, which was decadent and delicious. Another nice thing was that although this is a diner, they let us linger for a bit without hassling us - when you are out on the bike for hours and want to soak up being inside in a heated space, we like places that aren't in a huge rush to get rid of us. The food is the only reason I'm giving them two stars, also the nice waitress we had today. I usually call and place an order for pickup, and the guy at the front desk is always rude when I pick up, but I just thought maybe he has been having some bad days. I come in today for the first time to eat with a coworker, and the host, or guy at the front, ABSOLUTELY NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. Not a hello, good morning or anything, he just looked at us, until I said "table for two please" then he grabs two menus and walks towards a table, slaps the menus down, and then walks away. Not one word from him at all. Now I thought for a second, maybe because I am a minority, he's acting a tad weird or rude, so that made me a bit upset, but then I noticed he did the same thing to two other customers that came in though out the time I was eating. Even though the food is good, it's not worth the rude and non existent customer service. Not much diversity either, but then again this is my first visit to sit down. Not too comfortable. Our waitress was very sweet, she had suggestions and made conversation which was awesome, but other than that, will most likely not come back and would not refer anyone here again. Ordered the Italian Omelet which came with tomato sauce on the side in a small bowl. The food was not piping hot. It had already cooled off, before I got it. The tomato sauce cooled off in less than 5 minutes. So did the omelet, toast, and potatoes. This is my gripe with this diner. They make no effort to "think" about how they can keep meals hot, and tomato sauce hot. They either don't have the money to purchase better quality dishes and pitchers, or they don't care. its very quaint inside, definitely like a country house. Seemed a little dingy and dirty to me, but still nice. Menu is very standard, definitely come here for your comfort food fix. They have a "Lite menu" which is the only healthy thing i found on the menu and it was pretty good. I got the chicken breast with fresh fruit salad and my mom got the tuna salad (without mayo). We both enjoyed our meal surprised that it was actually fresh. My meal was overcharged by $1 but no big deal. Our waitress was a Greek grandmother who was nice :) read more

If I could rate this negative stars, I would. Remember the cafeteria food in school? I would rate that 72 levels higher than the cuisine at Westwood Diner. They simply just do not care about their business. The diner alone looks like it hasn't been redecorated since 1974. The wait staff is extremely non attentive, the owners look like they're angry at the world. On a customer service level I would give them a zero. The food- Pancakes, waffles, cheeseburgers. Pretty simple stuff right? Then how does the Westwood Diner manage to make all of these things horribly? Then they also have the cajones to price these meals like they're in downtown Manhattan. Seriously, save your money, save your intestines, save your life. I can't stress enough what an underwhelmingly horrible dining experience this is. As I ate eggs cooked all the way through and luke warm soggy not well done corned need hash with white toast which was burned around the edges, sweat poured down my back. The menu is extensive but the pancakes are the show stealer in my opinion, everything else (breakfast wise) is fairly average. I ordered a spinach salad and asked if I could add tuna. I saw the prices of grilled chicken salads were no more $10. I didn't think much of it until I paid. My salad ended up being more than $16 ... there was a $7 charge to add canned tuna. I eat a high protein diet and specifically ordered the salad since it included hard boiled eggs. When I had opened up my salad at home I noticed there were no eggs. Essentially I paid close to $20 for spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, two mushrooms and a can of tuna. And no eggs. Now I know why this diner is rated so low on Yelp... always trust Yelp ratings. The restaurants on Main Street in Westwood are 100% better quality which is usually where I order my lunches from.
