They decorated well with their merchandise and beans. Loved that they explained the coffee bean processing types so that people can see and learn. As usual, all of their baristas are so knowledgeable, kind, they make good coffee :) I got my usual cappuccino with oatmilk today. Definitely will come back to study and enjoy their other coffee!

The staff described it as cold brew with milk and sweetener, which was helpful, but it ended up being way too sweet for me. That might just be how it's supposed to be though, and probably my fault for not choosing something that better reflects their coffee. The space itself is pretty large, with a good amount of seating inside and a few tables outside. There's also a decent amount of parking, and it's in a shared building with a brewery and other businesses. It has a bit of an unfinished warehouse vibe, which honestly makes sense for a coffee roaster. Only real inconvenience was that the restroom is locked, which feels a little odd for such a large coffee shop. Overall I'd still come back, but next time I'll definitely try an espresso based drink instead.

I tried the Honey Black Sesame Latte, and while I wasn't sure I would like it, I ended up loving it! The flavor was super delicious, and went really well with the espresso flavor. We also ordered the avocado toast which is made on a Japanese milk bread slice. The seasoning toppings were super interesting and yummy, just maybe would have liked a bit more of the toppings personally. I really liked the larger menu of super unique drinks and definitely will be coming back to try a couple more that caught my eye! People are super nice and even though it's busy (for a good reason) there is plenty of parking and places to sit indoors and some outdoors.

My only complaint is that it came in a very small cup. The price is pretty standard for the Bay Area, but for the size, I was a little disappointed in the value. When you're craving an affogato, you want more than a few spoonfuls! Small cup aside, the quality was there. Perfect rainy day spot.

The service is incredibly quick, the vibe is super work-friendly, and they even have a fully functioning, in-house coffee roaster right on display. I ended up trying two different things. First was the Ube Latte. The ube flavor was incredibly forward and robust, practically overpowering the coffee itself, which I actually didn't mind. The absolute standout of the whole experience, though, was the coffee flight. The flight consisted of Milk Iced Coffee, which was incredibly strong, bold, and absolutely delicious; Crema Black Coffee, where the espresso was topped with a thick cheese cream layer. That was actually my least favorite of the group, but it was still good. The foam was a little salty, and the underlying espresso was incredibly strong and nice. The others were just so spectacular that they outshone it. The egg Coffee was incredibly custardy, rich, and creamy. It felt like drinking a delicious cold brew with a decadent, velvety custard foam. The durian Coffee absolutely blew my mind. The durian usually gets a bad reputation, so I was a little nervous to try it, but it was amazing. The durian cream paired perfectly with the coffee and didn't overpower the espresso flavor at all. Next time, I'd probably skip the standalone Ube Latte and just dive straight into the flight experience. Highly recommend checking this spot out if you want high-quality, flavorful specialty coffee.

Occasionally burnt espresso but I love them too much to mind. I am a matcha snob to say the LEAST. Hands down best coffee shop matcha in the Bay Area. The classic iced matcha latte with honey is grassy and earthy and creamy and a little sweet. The iced banana pudding matcha latte had people lined up around the corner for months when it came out. It is deliciously worth the wait. Best banana cold foam in my opinion because it's made with actual bananas instead of flavoring so it's much more mellow. The double matcha they had for awhile is also awesome. Banana cold foam also goes great on an espresso latte. Now they let you add whichever cold foam you like to whatever drink which is great. Basically you can't go wrong. They are always changing up the menu for the new season and have lots of unique drinks on their menu. Not much seating inside at this location. The winchester Blvd one has more if that's what you're looking for. Their pastries are also all yummy and they sell their matcha powder for $60 for 100g which is a GREAT price for a great matcha. I would've gate kept this place but everyone already knows about it so I HAVE to show them the love they deserve!!

I got the melon matcha with whole milk and the matcha cream top. I think I like their guava matcha more than the honeydew, but it was still good. It had a distinct honeydew flavor and the matcha itself was smooth. A friend of mine tried it and said it tasted like a lip smackers, which I think is a good way to describe it. I came on a Friday morning and it wasn't too busy. All the seats inside were taken but there were open tables outside. There's metered parking along Second and William street and it wasn't hard to find a spot. I love coming to academic and trying their new drinks, so I'll definitely be back.

About 6 months ago I made a switch from the convenience of my Keurig to buying quality beans, grinding them myself and make proper Americanos instead of popping in a pod and pushing a button. I've done a lot of experiments with beans and so far I haven't found better beans than the beans I pick up from Tico Coffee Roasters. I really appreciate to have roasters of this quality in my neighborhood! Coffee is like wine, the better the quality is, the less you need. I used to go through 4-5 Keurig pods every day, but I'm plenty fulfilled by 1-2 cups of coffee made from Tico's beans. So even though it seems like I'm paying more for coffee with Tico, I'm not. I highly recommend you to try Tico's beans. They have amazing deals through Too Good To Go if you are looking for a deal to try it out.

I order a cappuccino and tried their coffee of the day: Sanger de Toro. To begin, the drip, tasted very smooth with a slight acidity, but not too much. The cappuccino with a base of Rialto had the bold, dark chocolate, and rich taste that was advertised, and the foam was fine to perfection. It's in an industrial area with car repair shops, so if you're in the area for that, it is definitely worth checking out; it is also worth a special trip for. The service was fast and friendly. And the ambiance was a coffee stand outside of a coffee brewing company

The only critique I have is the music being way too loud at times. It's NOT what type of music is playing, but purely the volume. It wasn't crazy busy so it was easy to order through one of their two tablets and find a spot to sit. It is very spacious and filled with many tables, so even when busy you'll likely be able to find a spot. The menu is a bit messy to look at--there is a big menu hanging over the kiosks, another posted alongside where a line is formed, then the menu on the tablet kiosks themselves. It's a pretty big menu featuring primarily coffee-based drinks, matcha lattes, and a wide variety of food, so you'll likely find something appealing. I ordered their smoked salmon bagel (which rang up to about $16) and their matcha latte ($8); to be honest, neither were outstanding. The salmon and avocado in the bagel were great, but the bagel itself was a bit stale--for $16, it's a bit hard to swallow. The matcha was very milky, and there is another store offering better matcha drinks in the same plaza. I'll admit, though, it's a little on me for not picking coffee at a spot with "coffee" in the name. I will say, though, that the atmosphere in the main area is pretty good; the decor is understated but comfortable, and the lighting is good. The service is also solid--the servers are friendly and our order came out quickly. I will say that the bathroom feels ominous. Overall, it's a great spot to study; Big Mug is open late, has free Wi-Fi and a bathroom for customers, and offers both food and caffeinated drinks for longer study sessions. I feel that the prices vary widely for items but skew towards being too pricy for the quality, at least from my limited experience. I plan on coming back to give other items a try, but for now, it's not a favorite.
