I just want to say this place is amazing! The staff is so friendly and the food is made with greatness! I was sitting on the patio and this women came out and started yelling at this young lady about how she felt she wasnt was treated fairly. That wasnt the case! They never said she couldnt sit with her dog where they wanted! All she offered was a seat in the front. Ive been at this place so many times and not once have I ever seen this staff disrespect someone! Not sure if this lady was having a bad day or just needed a hug but there was no reason to treat the staff the way she did!! This place has always been pet friendly!! What's "crackin" at the Crackin Cafe is excellent food served by great food servers (shout out to TJ for outstanding service) in a friendly, casual environment at a reasonable price. We love this place and have been coming here since they opened. Breakfast food that rivals anything in the area, the staff and especially owners are great, love the service and how personable everyone is. When I first discovered this place a couple of years back I found their breakfast to be excellent and tasty. So I returned again. Well, I was disappointed with what I ordered, New Mexico Omelet, it was tasteless. It was supposed to include Green Hatch Chile. Well, not even close. The chile was bland. The omelet was bland. One thing I can say is that the courtesy and friendliness of the staff was still there. The coffee was the best. I will go back again next time I'm in Mesa to give them another chance. read more

My first visit to What's Crackin and I shall return. This was for a Saturday morning breakfast and I ordered the Eggs Benedict. Good choice. My first impression is the place is for casual dining with a really friendly wait staff. I felt welcomed and like a long term patron on my first visit. You can tell the staff like working here and that bodes well for the food being prepared. I shall return and try a lunch/dinner in the near future. Overall unappetizing. Firstly, the fries were really soggy. I ordered through Postmates but this place is near my house & the order came quickly, so I know the delivery is not why they were like that. The really weird part is the seasoning. They were just ridiculously covered in it & it not only has a strange flavor, but the fries had an almost powder-like texture to them. They were just gross & I couldn't even eat them. So I never really write reviews, but I just needed to talk about my first ever experience here. I was excited to try this place because they had a quinoa bowl that you could customize for yourself. I've never really seen places do that! So my boyfriend and I went and we were eager to try this place we've never been to, but lived near. So the waitress takes our order and, I kid you not, it took a half hour to get our food. I totally understand places get busy, so things get kinda backed up in the kitchen. Totally get it. But then I noticed two women nearby that sat down 10 minutes after us get their food within 10-15 minutes, that got me a little irritated. Then we finally got our food. I got a quinoa bowl and my boyfriend got the chicken fried steak. My bowl was really good, I was feeling a little better about the place! But then I saw my boyfriend eating his chicken fried steak and he didn't really seem to enjoy it. Turns out his steak was WAY overcooked. The thing looked like a boot smushed in between breading a coated with brown gravy. He liked everything else (breading, gravy, potatoes)! Just not the "steak" given to him. So I was immediately upset. He doesn't really like breakfast food, and I thought we could try this place since it had a nice variety. But then we had to wait 1/2 hour for our food, watch people that came in after us get their food first, be served sad looking food, and our server barely acknowledged us (she acknowledged her other guests, just not us). The only reason I'm giving this two stars is because my food was decent and the manager was very kind and comped his meal off our ticket. This café has been open for only a few months and seems to be a work in progress. I have now visited twice. Both times we brought friends from out of town. John, who I think is one of the business partners. was very receptive to our comments on where we thought they could improve. Pros - The food is delicious and for the most part the serving size was good. The servers are all friendly and accommodating. The menu is flexible. e.g. The first time I ordered a short stack (2) of pancakes and the pancakes were the size of a dinner plate so the second time I asked if I could order 1 pancake and they said OK. Parking is good. Handicapped accessible I ordered the Praline Pecan Pancakes. They were huge and delicious. My husband ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and it was a huge serving and was "real" steak and was excellent. Loved the patio dining. Cons - Both times service was very slow. I appreciate that food is made from scratch, but don't go there if you're in a hurry. Music was very loud. It may have been OK for a Saturday night, but not for an 8 a.m. breakfast. They did turn it down when I asked them to. Menu is somewhat confusing. e.g. On the Choose 2 breakfast my husband chose ham and eggs and sourdough toast and that's exactly what he got - Hashbrowns were extra. Both times our friends (men) ordered the "Country Bowl" and both times they were still hungry and were not happy with their food. The pros outweigh the cons and we will be going back. I discovered the cafe this week and have eaten there twice. Eggs Benedict and Chicken Fried Steak with home made french fries. Both meals were delicious. The food is all made from scratch. The staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive. My drink was never empty. The restaurant was very clean with a nice ambiance. First and last time. Stopped in on a Monday morning @ 0800. Ordered a breakfast burrito. Saw the price was $11. when taking my order I was asked if I wanted meat, I did order that, sausage. Check out time my bill for burrito alone was $15 and change. For a single breakfast burrito. Food: "Okay', the filling was average. A few scrambled eggs, sausage w large non descriptive under cooked pieces of potato. The sauce and cheese were good. All wrapped in a giant tortilla giving the appearance that the burrito was large. Not really. Worth about -seriously.. $5. The wait time seemed like right around 15 minutes..to go - on a Monday morning. Place was empty. The employees, were either smoking in the parking lot, leaving to go out and smoke or in he case of the lady who took my order, just came in and smelled. Not going back. read more

I have never written a review before, and I hate it's going to be negative, but here we go. Seating in this place sucked. All the tables are really close together, and the waitresses kept hitting my chair when they walked by. We ordered our food, and it took a really long time, and then I look down at my omelette and it wasn't cooked. It was really runny, and I could barely eat any of it. I would have sent it back, but we had already waited so long. I personally will never go back. We were welcomed by the manager opening the door for us with a casual, "Hey, What's Crackin'?" The place was pretty busy, and there were only high tops available which was not conducive to us having a baby in a car seat. The manager rearranged some tables and brought out a car seat carrier. The menu was diverse and interesting. We came for lunch, but the breakfast options looked amazing. I ordered the buffalo chicken salad. It came out as expected. The chicken was hot and spicy, tossed in a delicious buffalo sauce. My wife ordered a pretty basic turkey sandwich with a side of fries. The fries were really good, a little crispy with a sweetness to them. The sandwich was good; it was a basic turkey sandwich. The service was great. We never had to ask for refills. Super fun environment and the staff is incredible. Even the owners took their time to ensure we were comfortable and a discussion was opened up about how they started and created this great place. My husband and I ate here this morning after hearing about it on our Next Door community group... we were met at the door and seated quickly, no wait time. The server was quick and efficient and got our order right with no problems. The food was really good and hot (I have a pet peeve of luke warm food). We both had the eggs benedict, my husband had the crabcakes on his and we both commented how good ours was..we are not day drinkers but like the option for when we have company come into town, who might want a bloody mary or a mimosa with their breakfast. Not overly fancy in food or decor but just a solid good place that I look forward to going to again. Next time I'll try their lunch items. I'm glad they're in the neighborhood. read more

The place has tables too close to each other, I would say less than a foot maybe 6" between tables! You can reach over the next table with your arm while at your table. Service was awful. Had to ask for refills a few times, she started taking my plate away while I had food on it and had to tell her I'm still eating. She didn't ask if I was finished, just started taking it away - bad. She did not smile the whole time. She didn't seem to like her job and didn't seem happy to be there. I've had better service at other breakfast places where they are happy to have you there, making conversation with you, not miserable servers that rub off to the customers that leave unhappy. We will not return to this place. There are many other breakfast cafes that are way better than this one. read more
