Went there expecting a great experience because I heard this place was excellent. My husband and I ordered and appetizer wings, Capricola pineapple pizza and the steak special. We order it took a little while for waitress to come. Which I understand I am a chef so I get it. Put order in. And hour later I asked about our app which the waitress had forgot. She then said was your order capricola pizza and steak? I was like yes. She like oh yes I put it in. It came out 20 mins later and the pizza was cooked on top not the bottom and the toppings were cold. My steak was cold and fries and what a disgrace the chimmichurri sauce was. It was so disappointed. And the waitress didn't even ask if it was ok cause she knew. We Quickly paid and left. Even though I should of never paid for that meal. First time visit on Sunday with my family of four. One person in our party ordered the haddock sandwich which looked really good. She took a bite or two and took the lettuce off of the sandwich and offered me a try. I took the lettuce for my portion and when I picked it up - I saw a baby slug. Still alive on the lettuce!!!!!! When the manager came to the table she asked what was going on and said something about not liking bugs and BARELY addressed it. She was at our table for less than a minute. In fact, I don't know if she apologized for our experience at all. She basically said everything is sourced fresh and they do their best to wash the produce LAME EXCUSE! I know it's nature but if you're washing thing throughly, a good rinse would have washed that thing off. She said she wouldn't charge us for that dish and left the table. NO KIDDING.... it was inedible. After that, no one in the party could get that image of a live slug and the idea if the lettuce was left in, it would've been eaten. DISGUSTING. NONE OF US COULD EAT AFTER THAT and literally left everything but the pizza on the table. $98 plus tip for a terrible experience. The wood fired pizza was also delicious and we tried Mama Lil's pepper and spicy Italian sausage. Went for lunch, and we couldn't have loved this place anymore! First off, the service was awesome. Michelle was attentive, friendly, and helpful. atmosphere was great, industrial vibe, good music. The food was delicious, and there were a lot of good options to choose from, we had a hard time deciding on what to order. Ended up with a pizza, fish tacos, and a meatball sandwich. I noticed staff cleaning glass doors, etc, and was impressed they were taught well or cared so much to run a tight ship to ensure great service in a clean place. This was a fantastic restaurant choice for our family!!! We had been on a road trip and on the way to Portland later in the evening. I wasn't having luck finding some places that were highly rated and not fancy Dining. It is a casual ambience TVs and open seating with a really unique menu. They had pizza and wings but also hummus and scallops. We got two pizzas for 3 adults and a child and probably would recommend more pizza or to get an appetizer too Bc they pizzas Weren't as filling which is totally fine they pizzas were delicious!! We got the Margherita and chicken bacon ranch with no bacon. The desserts were both 10/10!!!! Homemade cookie of the day with homemade s'mores ice cream omg. Walked in and we were told it would be a 10-15 minute wait...No big deal. Gave our phone number and went next door to poke around the company shop. Two minutes later our table was ready. Our waitress was extremely friendly and made us feel completely relaxed during our first time here. Our food and drinks were all brought out in a timely manner. Our appetizer of honey glazed wings didn't even have a second to get cold before they were placed in front of us to enjoy. And we thoroughly enjoyed them. I even appreciated that the wait staff seem to work together when one may be busy. We had another waitress notice that we were done and offered to box up our leftovers for us. Great teamwork. Just a warning ‼ If you order the artisan bread plate with four different kinds if breads and an olive oil/balsamic vinegar/sea salt for dipping, you'll want to check the hours to the company store next door. I snuck over while waiting for our pizza and left with FOUR loaves of their artisan bread. Thank goodness it freezes well! Yum! Last but not least, we couldn't choose just one type of pizza so we did half bacon/cheddar/broccoli and half meatball. Both were delicious. The only slight disappointment was that our original choice of pizza (instead of bacon/cheddar/broccoli ) was half barbecue chicken and they would not do the two different sauces. Hands down one of my favorite pizza places to go to when I'm around the Kittery area. One of the special things they do is there Wednesday deals of only $5 for 4 select pizzas. Luckily they have my favorite on the list. Margarita pizza! My friend and I were seating inside by a very friendly hostess and short after our waitress arrived asking for our drinks. We already knew the pizzas we wanted to let her know of our order as well. We received our pizzas in about 10 minute time, which was normal. I included a picture of the pizzas we got. As you can see in the picture it looks amazing. In my opinion its all about the sauce when it comes to pizza and I don't know what they use but its delicious! The crust was good, crispy on the outside but a little dry. Easy fix is to eat some crust as you eat the pizza. I would have liked a little more basil but hey $5 I'm not gonna complain. I didn't try my friends pizza but he enjoyed his just as much as I enjoyed mine. Overall, this place was wonderful and I would highly recommend it if you're in the area. Our waitress was super sweet, after mentioning we had never tried their bread she brought us out some samples with oil and balsamic. I am a HUGE fan of When Pigs Fly Pizzeria: It is a safe distance away from the Kittery shopping chaos. Located on a private lot surrounded by trees and plenty of parking in the lot. The driveway also loops in front of the building should you need to drop anyone safely at the door, especially during inclement weather. We have been here at different times of day and night and have never had to wait too long for a seat, if at all. It's probably because the chairs are not super comfortable where you would want to hang out for hours :) There is always at least one staff member to greet you with a smile as you walk in, however it is easy to get distracted by the long beer list that is hanging behind them. The bar is directly in front of you as you walk in and to the left is the restaurant. It is an open room with high and low tables and very heavy chairs. The place is always clean. The restrooms are also very clean. The only complaint I have about the restrooms is that they only have air hand dryers - not my favorite. When I go in I usually have an idea of what I am craving, but the daily specials menu can sometimes throw me off my plan...but that's a good thing. SNACKS: We love the housemade Bavarian pretzel with the SPICY mustard and honey. I have not had a mustard like this one that comes with the pretzel. It doesn't seem spicy at first....and then...Your sinuses are burning!!!! Chase it with honey. It is so good. The artisan bread plate - fantastic! But, if you aren't sharing it with at least 3 other people, you won't have room for anything else, especially if you are drinking beer. Hand cut Belgian fries are a favorite - we usually order some to start and then continuing eating them as a side to our sandwiches (which don't come with fries) SANDWHICHES: Skillet Madame - WOW...I mean...I have never had a Croque Madame like this one. The bread and custard truly make this sandwich. I tried so hard to finish it, but because we had appetizers, I had to raise the white flag and actually share the rest with my husband. This is my favorite item on their menu! PIZZAs: Their pizza's are fantastic and very heavy and filling, you definitely won't walk away hungry. I like the sauce and the fresh toppings. I have not tried any of their pesto pizzas or the duck, but I have tried the others, they are delicious. Well balanced with toppings and flavors. Grilled Pineapple and capicola. YES! DESSERT: First - GIFFORDs ice cream - Maine Ice Cream!! My favorite Maine Ice Cream. Second, we only had room for dessert once - Blueberry bread pudding cake. If you think it sounds good, then get it, because it is good! Beers - Craft beers galore!!! Usually at least 20+ craft beers available. Service - never have had a bad experience. Prompt and polite. The bread store next door! BREAD STORE!!!! We always stop in, if the are still open. So many varieties of breads and you can buy the Bavarian pretzels as well! They have locally made chocolates for sale. They have GELATO FIASCO pints for sales as well. My favorite Gelato!! I would recommend to anyone driving by this area. We got the date sopressata and the BCBR and I can't decide which was my favorite. They both had excellent flavors and were filling. But it was the crust that really set these pizzas apart. I have been here pre-pandemic several times and a couple if times during the pandemic. The pizza's are delicious and the non-red sauce choices is extensive. They use to have a great charcuterie board but had to slim the menu down during the pandemic. Outdoor eating is a good setup. I prefer indoors. I enjoy all their breads as well. read more
