I went to 'When Pigs Fly Southern BBQ' yesterday while in the Litchfield area of Connecticut. This is my third visit there. For the bad news. it's to far from my home, I wish it was closer, I would be there everyday. The good news, best BBQ I ever had. The Gumbo soup is out if this world, I can only say Wow!!! it's that good. We also ordered the ribs, they were cooked to perfection. Oh yeah, the service, top notch, the nicest people, and they make it a point to make sure you're happy and satisfied. If you're in the Sharon, CT area, this is a must stop, you won't regret it. Stopped in to WPFS for lunch while in the area. What a great little spot. Cozy and friendly staff. I had the half rack of ribs and my son had the slider trio. We both thoroughly enjoyed the food. Cooked perfectly and wrapped to keep in the heat. Our sides included deviled eggs (if you like deviled eggs do yourself a favor and enjoy these!!) Mac and cheese and brown beans. The beans were sweet with just a touch of heat. The menu is expansive and the looks from the exterior do not give this place justice. Small and quaint in the village of Sharon. I was working in the small town of Sharon, Ct and got out a little late. I happen to drive by this place and decided to grab some dinner. The moment I walked in the owners greeted me and made me feel welcome. They were so friendly and helpful. Their attitude alone would bring me back. I ended up ordering the 3 slider meal which comes with chicken, pork and brisket plus the collard greens and Mac & cheese. All meats were good but the brisket was the best. Both sides were good but what put the meal over the top was the homemade hot sauce. Very hot but in a good way. If I am anywhere close I will drive out of my way to visit again. read more

9/10/2016 Always consistently good and the portions are huge. I see several people complain about the prices, but you get what you pay for. We always have to bring home leftovers, so the portions justify the pricing. I always get the half brisket, half pulled pork platter. Bennett is always turning out top quality product and he is a very gracious host. Yeah, the wait can be a little long but so what? It isn't a MacDonald's McRib you are getting!!! Jeez..... The best times to go are during the weekdays right at opening and after lunch during "off hours". I like to get in around 4PM for an early dinner. First round of Southern Style Iced Tea and Lemonade contained no ice. Pulled pork arrived as ordered along with proper sides. Brisket platter was mistaken for a pulled pork sandwich which was not ordered. ( Apparently the three tables were a little overwhelming for the staff, because the table next to us received the wrong order too....and they ordered neither brisket nor a pulled pork sandwich)While I waited for my brisket, I sampled my travelling companion's pork, which was a large albeit obviously reheated plate of Carolina style pulled pork. Side of baked mac and cheese was dry and uncheesy. A bite of the Jalepeno biscuit offered a good hint of spice and an even better hint of dry! Sucked down half of my cold-ish iced tea to rehydrate my tongue just as my brisket arrived. Brisket wasn't bad. Good mix of lean and fat. Nice chunks of smoky bark mixed in. Unfortunately, some bites were hot and others just tepid as I made my way through it. A little too saucy but all-in-all adequate. Baked Beans were so overpowered by cumin, someone had to have misread a 't' as a 'T' in a recipe. The flavor was so off-putting a bite was all I could muster. The corn pudding was pretty flavorless, and all-in-all pointless. Corn with a little butter, salt and pepper would have been equally unsatisfying. Second round of drinks arrived after empty cups were ignored by a couple different servers and waving finally drew their attention. The tea tasted completely different the second round....and not for the better, although the addition of ice was a nice change. Left $45 and a lot of uneaten food on the table. Last weekend my sister, brother-in-law, baby nephew and I came into the restaurant and found they were closing early due to a family emergency. We had traveled over an hour to sample the menu and were, as you can imagine, heartily disappointed that they were closed. Much to our delight, however, the kind and dedicated owner served us anyway, opening his heart and restaurant to us despite the trouble at home. Needless to say, we were touched. He even threw in some drinks on the house because he could only offer us a limited menu. We all had the delicious brisket and a variety of home-made side dishes. The cole slaw, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, and deviled eggs were as fantastic as the tender, smoky, beef. I'm from the south and care deeply about BBQ. Their pulled pork sandwich was one of the best I've ever had. To get a feel for my tastes: if you're from Richmond, I grew up on Kings BBQ and I enjoy the Carolina-style. I am reluctant to have heavy sauces on my meat, but Buz and Ned's does a great job in town, even if their meat is a little tough sometimes. I'm not too picky, just like anything that's good. When Pigs Fly nails it. And of all places - in rural Connecticut! I also had their black eyed peas, which were deliciously sweet. Wish I had ordered more, but the sandwich was huge and filling. The owner is gracious and excited about his food. Hard to beat that care and quality. They were mid way through a renovation on the front end of the restaurant (no seating now, just take out) that would expand the space a bit. Visited Connecticut at the end of summer, and this place was one of the best things happened there. Loved the decor. Very friendly staff and cool owner. We have been looking for a good BBQ for a while, and we finally decided to take a ride out to Sharon to check this place out. We are so happy that we did!! As soon as we walked in, we were warmly greeted by Bennet and enjoyed talking to him about smoked meat. He let us sample a few different BBQ sauces, and then we picked the beef brisket, pulled chicken, wings, collard greens and cheddar and jalapeno bisquits. The weather was nice enough where we were able to sit outside on one of the picnic tables to enjoy our meal. Everything was absolutely delicious!!! A nice smoky flavor that wasn't overpowering...just right!! Bennet came outside to chat with us and showed us his smoker and told us about his catering services, which we would definitely consider for our next big party. We will be returning to WPF again and again!! The ride takes us about 45 minutes but it's a very scenic drive through Cornwall and the food is truly worth the trip!!! read more

I hate to give my meal one star but there's no getting around it. Crabcake big-boy and cole slaw. Sandwich bun was soaking wet with sauce. Took one bite and the filling was oozing out, wet and sloppy, soupy. Pretty gross. Last time I had it, last year, the cake had a crispy crust and the meat was flaky. So I mentioned all this to the staff, inquiring politely if the recipe had changed, and he said no, they didn't change the recipe, but he had nothing else to add. He might have told the person who made the sandwich, at least, and offered to give me credit towards another meal, etc. Not sure if I will go here again. We were almost home with our dinner when the owner called to say the kid's sandwiches were not in the bag. He insisted on delivering to our house even though it was completely out of the way. i was very disappointed in my meal. my friends and i came to sharon for a weekend and this place was way too hyped. the food lacked flavor and quite honestly felt a bit too good to be true. we ordered wings and found pieces of plastic and hair. our mac and cheese was brown and just pasta in oil. the rest of the meat we ordered was severely lacking flavor. the corn bread as well was extremely dry. i would not recommend you ordering from here. the only decent food we got was cole slaw. read more

I can only speak to the catering which was unimpressive and the way in which it was handled. The food was OK, really nothing to rave about. Maybe it lost flavor in the travel from Sharon to NY? Bennett is a kind man but not very professional. Written contract was promised but not received when promised, he could not remember what our deposit was, and when we were put in contact with the woman who was to deliver and serve she thought she was going to another location altogether. When she was corrected her response was "oh that's right". They arrived late and had inexperienced (teenage) staff. The guy in charge of grilling ( TEENAGER) had no idea how to cook a damn hamburger! Squish, flip, squish, flip, squish, flip....you get the picture. I don't blame the kid, seems they had no training. And it was disconcerting to see them dump bags of hotdog buns on the grass!! Really? Should have kept them in a box out of the sun. Again, no real training - just part time help. Not caterers, just part time help. No one ( approx 75 people ) even mentioned the food...when it is excellent the guests will rave. Not a peep, so it didn't go over that great. If you are detail oriented and expect to get service before your catered event and a professional team to show up once the day comes, you will get that from When Pigs Fly when pigs fly. My family loves BBQ and this place was our favorite thus far! We stopped in randomly after a day of hiking and we're met by kind staff and feasted on delicious southern BBQ. The kids had mac and cheese and corn bread. My husband had a sliced brisket sandwich with peach sauce and baked beans. My older daughter had a pulled pork sandwich.
