After hiking the Narrows for six hours, this place was near the park entrance and definitely satisfied. I ordered the Mexican pizza with prawns, but received a pizza with chicken instead. Was so hungry I went with what they brought out and it was very tasty and filling. Oh my god, they have the best fish tacos I've ever tasted in my life. And I know fish tacos. Chunks of grilled tuna with a cool yet spicy fruit salsa in big, slightly singed tortillas, spicy black beans and a basic salad with chipotle dressing (which didn't taste very chipotle-ey, but whatever). It'll make you gasp as you chew. Good local beers too, even if they are weak 4% alcohol beers (thanks for nothing, Utah). The tacos and a beer cost me $20, which is pricey, but totally worth it. The place doesn't look like much -- it's a former gas station with a couple tables inside and a few more outside. Some current Zion-area guidebooks call it Roberto's, but the name has obviously changed. Nice menu ($8-$15 range) of creative, upscale taqueria fare (tacos, burritos, nachos) mixed with creative, upscale fare (Mexican pizza, wraps, burgers and even vegan whatever-it-is-vegans-eat). The crowd was mostly local, which is always a good sign, and I overheard raves about the enchiladas. I might have to go back for those. In a town full of touristy, overpriced, mediocre food, the Whiptail's a hidden treasure. read more

They have a menu you would expect in a sophisticated city restaurant with lots of selection and even good vegetarian dishes. Prices were reasonable ($10-20 for entrees) and the food was outstanding! The presentation was so beautiful that my 4 year old said, "No Daddy, you can't mess it up!" Oh, but I did and it was truly delicious! I had the Chili Relleno and my wife had the Spaghetti Squash Enchiladas. Both were unique and absolutely exceptional. I tried to go to the Whiptail Grill when I was in Springdale a few years ago but they were closed. My curiosity has been building ever since so I was glad to finally get a chance to eat there last week. The whole experience was a little different than I was expecting. First off, the waiter was pretty funny, as in what-have-you-been-smoking funny. I thought the chicken enchiladas were good (not great) and my buddy seemed satisfied with his burger. But as we were finishing our meal one of the other staff members shut off most of the lights and started mopping the floor. We took the hint and made a hasty exit. read more

Went to this restaurant the two nights that I stayed in Springdale. I really enjoyed the laid back, chill atmosphere of the outdoor location. The food was great both nights. The chicken enchiladas were solid. The spaghetti squash enchiladas were yummy/different and I would get them again. I definitely recommend getting the goat cheese chili relleno, it was delicious. The only thing I was confused about since I'm not from UT was the low beer alcohol content. read more

Let's start with how cute this place is. Sitting outside I feel like I am in Cars Land in Disneyland. The restaurant is in an old gas station with Utah's red rock mountains as a backdrop. Pure charm. We ate here two nights ago. Our server was lovely, all the staff was very nice. However, I have to give only two stars because both my fiance and I were very disappointed with our meals. I ordered the stuffed avocado salad and he ordered the sesame encrusted tofu. Neither of us could finish our meals they were so bad. My salad had corn which tasted straight out of the can, a brown and splotchy avocado just plopped right in the middle - not even cut up, and the cucumber tasted old and squishy. My fiances meal was worse - the tofu was barely cooked. Encrusted should mean fried, but it just seemed to have been warmed up and sprinkled with sesame seeds. The flavor was also way too gingery, it was disgusting. He didn't touch the side of cucumber because it looked old and soggy. We were so disappointed, especially because the yelp reviews were quite good! The worst part was that the meal was so expensive for what we had!! In retrospect we should have sent them back, but we felt bad. 10.00 for mine, and 15.00 for his!!! Our waitress had mentioned that they were closing for the season the next day, so perhaps the chef had left already and someone was just winging it? Or they weren't trying that hard? But we are so bummed that we spent about 40 bucks on a seriously awful meal. We left feeling hungry and super bummed :( read more

VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! We actually never got the opportunity to taste their food, but we were looking forward to it. My husband and I are staying at the RV Park just half a block away (Quality Inn), and had plans for dinner at Whiptail tonight. During our hike this afternoon I twisted my ankle pretty badly. I can barely stand up on it, let alone walk. It's swollen and I'm icing it. Since I'm not able to walk my husband called to place an order to go around 7:15pm. He was told they stop doing "to go" orders at 6pm. There's not a lot of eating places around here. He would have had to get onto the town shuttle and take it downtown to pick up food. So, we called Whiptail back and explained to them that I was not able to walk and my husband would come in and order and eat there, but order an extra plate for me. He would bring in a sturdy paper plate and foil and transfer the food onto it, so he could bring it back to me. We were told that we can't do that. We asked why not? If my husband is eating there and only bringing a plate of food back to me why would that be a problem for them? The woman on the phone then said if he came in with a paper plate they would refuse to seat him or serve him! WHAT??? UNBELIEVABLE! We would be paying for 2 dinners. My husband would eat his there and all we wanted to do was scoop a burrito onto a plate to bring to me and they refused to let us do that! Since we had plans for dinner tonight we didn't pick up anything at the market to prepare. I'm not able to walk and there's nothing else close by. We ended up having 2 granola bars, a bag of trail mix, and shared a bottle of water for dinner. The owners of Whiptail are HEARTLESS! We are here for 3 more nights, but we won't be dining there now, or ever! read more

probably the best restaurant within the area of Zion. things to definitely get: - Ribs: amazing. Great sauce. Cooked to perfection. Melt off the bone. - Spaghetti Squash Enchilada: great take on a squash dish. Its sweet with a hint of spice, with alot of fresh veggies. - Goat Cheese Chili Relleno: its like a mozzarella stick on crack. Delicious. Light. You have the option of ordering it with steak. DO IT. things I didnt love: - the Sesame Crusted Tofu - this dish has the potential to be awesome, if they just fried the tofu, instead its baked. Not impressed at all. Don't know if it's the whole Covid thing or what, but service was very bad. And the food was not very good. Took 13 minutes from the time we were seated to the time they brought us water. Almost 15 min later to finally order our drinks. We placed our food order at same time to hopefully speed things up. The only one working there that seemed to care about the guests was the blonde hostess seating people. She was rumning her butt off seating people, taking take out orders, cleaning tables and phone calls. She impressed me. Our food got to us in not too bad of a time, but our fries were very cold and my bbq sandwich was very bland while my wifes blue cheese burger was also pretty boring. The waiter was nice and discounted our order due to the cold fries but that doesn't make up for slow service along with bland food. Edited due to response from restaurant. Maybe you should talk to the place across the street. We ate there the night before snd the service was great and the food was very good. Fyi.... as an essential worker who has not missed a single day of work since this covid started, I find your response pretty sad. My husband ate here one night after a long day of hiking at Zion. The view was pretty, we got the taco salad and the avocado salad, both were really good and big, but we finished them both. The only thing we had an issue with was the service. They seemed very understaffed.. it wasn't busy at the time we went but they were MIA often and when we did see the waiters they were running around and seemed overwhelmed. First time, service was very slow and the menu pretentious. However, the burrito (medium to large), bacon burger and carne asada taco were good. They fried the taco shell to order and the diner loved it. Chips and salsa are good, but no refills. Second time, service was also very slow and the menu remained pretentious. The server added a 25% gratuity for herself to the bill for four adults and two kids. On the first bite, the spaghetti squash enchilada reminded my wife of fresh vomit. None of four adults liked it. Obviously, there will be no third time. Oh, and don't sit outside when it's windy. A family of four personally carried their outside table into the cramped inside seating area and we saw a water cup blow over onto an outsider diner. Blondie's serves good, honest, tasty basic fare without a lot of variation just a few hundred feet away. Her apple pie was so good, I had it three days in a row. Save your money and get better food faster at Blondie's or Zion Noodles and Pizza for much less. read more

Toured northern Arizona and western Utah for 10 days in May and the best meal we had was not in Phoenix and not in Sedona, but at the Whiptail Grill in Springdale. All I ask from a restaurant when I'm travelling is tasty, quality food at a reasonable price. Service and atmosphere are much less important to me. My companion ordered a delicious chicken dish, of which I was envious, and I had some tender, spicey-hot, beef tacos thing. Show me an online menu and I'll tell you exactly what we had. Everything I ate there tasted good. The chef has a genuine understanding of emphasizing and balancing flavours. We washed it all down with Polygamy Porters...sat on the patio and soaked up the memorable mountain views. The Music was decent and the service was adequate. Our server only billed us for one round of beers. I pointed out the error to her...damn, I'm honest. Actually, I worked in the service industry in a previous life and I did not want to see her later pay for the error with my tip money. I regret dining here only once. For me, returning to Zion will mean returning to the Whiptail Grill. read more

Don't listen to anyone who denies that this is the best restaurant in town, especially if they tell you that Oscars is better. I have been to Springdale three times and have dined at many of its restaurants, including the Whiptail several times and Oscars twice. Admittedly, you might like Oscar's better if you are a fan of mediocre but reliable Mexican chain restaurants. Otherwise, I recommend the Whiptail. The Whiptail has a cult following that it deserves, and it's no more expensive than most anything else in Springdale. Run, don't walk, to it now before the chef moves on to a bigger and/or more glamorous setting. read more

Awesome food, great service. After some poor planning on our part, we hiked the narrows and didn't have dry shoes to change into (but did have dry socks). We called ahead to see if they'd still serve us if we sat on the patio. When we got there, we started our story, and word had already spread to our server. She told us to "sit anywhere, we're cool." Indeed they were. Prices were a bit steep (probably due to the proximity to the park) but I would definitely return. read more
