We chose the Whiptail Grill for dinner our first night in Zion. The Yelp reviews looked good, and it was right across the street from where we were staying, so it was a natural choice. What can you expect? It's a casual, funky place, so you can come as you are. As of this writing both indoor and outdoor seating are offered. We chose inside seating. It was fine, but the indoor space would benefit from a little jazzing up. The food isn't cheap if you get my drift. Expect a wait to be seated. It's a popular place with reduced capacity due to the COVIDs. We waited about 40 minutes to be seated. On another evening, the hostess said the wait would be about an hour, so we chose to eat at a different place. The food was quite good. We chose a couple of the gourmet burgers served with fries. In retrospect, and this isn't taking anything away from the burgers, we might have been better off ordering some of the gourmet Mexican food on the menu. Alcohol wise it's beer and wine only. If you like margaritas with your Mexican food, know that going in. There is a good selection of craft beers along with a few of the usual non craft beers. Not great. The food was so-so - nothing terribly wrong with it and there was a LOT of it, but it wasn't great. The atmosphere is cool if you're there when it's light out and can see the exterior so good during the day! The interior is cold and loud, or fun if you like a sort of metallic, garage themed Mexican restaurant. The service was problematic, At first we thought our waitress was fun, and really friendly. By the end of our meal, when she had mostly forgotten about us and our order a few times, she was slurring her words. It's a fun place, but not worth the price. We got the nachos with carne Asada, wings with fries, and the fire Asada tacos Nachos - decent but could use some salsa or sour cream/guac either on the side or on top. Felt a bit dry Wings - tangy, huge wings, enough sauce and crispy Asada tacos - spicy! Comes with rice and beans which were yummy. Dishonest establishment. Don't go there. First of all, the food was super expensive and not good at all. Second of all, we called in a takeout and was very explicit with one of the orders. We asked for no jalapeno peppers on the chicken sandwich because I am allergic. The sandwich that we brought home was loaded with jalapenos. I was not able to eat it at all. And my family were unable to change with me because they don't eat spicy foods. So I spent $17 on a meal I couldn't eat. Because we were traveling, we were unable to call them until the day after. They offered to make me a new sandwich, but as we are already two and a half hours away, they just shrugged and said oh well too bad. Not the right way to do business. read more

We picked up takeout to eat on our second day in Zion. The Avocado Salad with Asada Style Tenderloin ($18) was initially good, but the avocado was BROWN. As if it was sitting outside in a container for hours after being de-pitted/peeled. For a salad that has avocado as the main ingredient in the title, this is not okay. I stopped in here for dinner Friday night when trying to find a spot that wasn't packed full. When I showed up there were a few groups dining outside and only one table occupied inside. I opted to sit inside (note: they do not have a bar area but they do serve beer and wine). I ordered an IPA to drink and was very indecisive on what I wanted to eat. The server suggested a few options to me. For a place that serves mostly Mexican food, I was a little nervous about ordering a burger but the Anaheim Burger was calling my name. Fortunately I went with that option because it was one of the best burgers I've had recently! The bun was perfectly toasted so it did not get soggy. The fries were also great. Although we had a 30 minute wait with kids, it was well worth it. Sami our waitress was cheerful and non- plused despite the heavy business. Food came out quite quickly. Kids had quesadillas and the rest of us had shrimp tacos ( giant Shrimp & generous amount), chicken sandwich and goat cheese stuffed Chile rellanos ( you really have to try this- even if you don't like goat cheese)! Stopped in after a day of Hiking at Zion! This is a short five min ride outside of the park. Easy on site parking and plenty of variety in the menu with Mexican and American food options. I highly recommend the shrimp tacos and the BBQ Bacon Gouda Burger! Both were absolutely delicious! Based off of reviews here my family decided to check out Whiptail grill after a day in Zion. After being asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside, we chose outside because of the beautiful view and we were a large party of 7, but asked to turn the propane heaters on as it was a chilly evening. After trying to turn on three different heaters the hostess said she couldn't get any of them to work and they were all out of propane so we ultimately decided to sit inside. For cost, food was mediocre. Our party had the nachos (just okay), burrito (which was served cold), mango habanero wings (lacked flavor), Gouda burger (overcooked, dry) and chicken sandwich. Service was good. I'm not sure if it was an off night but the table next to us also sent their food back because her wings were cold. read more

Best Restaurant in Springdale!! This spot is worth the trip to the Zion area just by itself! The Chile Relleno is perfection, the salad is fresh and the patio view is heaven. Now here's the crazy tip for this place... it sounds insane but I swear it's one of the most perfect bites I've ever eaten... the chocolate habanero peanut butter crème brûlée. What's really special about this place is the portion sizes and the delicious food. The salsa and chips were a surprising serve. The chips have a nice crunch and the salsa is fresh. The spaghetti squash enchiladas were a surprising dish. They served it to us in two dishes with our own side salad and beans. Very considerate! The squash spaghetti was a great meal before our trip in Zion. It wasn't to heavy but was certainly filling. The squash had a spaghetti texture and the enchilada was drowning in cheese. The side salad paired with a vinnegrate dressing that cut the savoriness of the enchiladas. Eat here if you want some great food air mist spray outside. We were seated quickly even though the place appeared to be a little short staffed. The guy who took our drink orders heard my partner say that he was good with water and abruptly walked away before I could order something for myself. At first I thought he assumed my partner was speaking for both of us, but then realized that they were busy and he was just being absent minded. Anyways, we were asked if we were already being helped on two separate occasions and it felt nice to be taken care of by such attentive staff. Whiptail grill is a good place for a quick bite. My only complaint is that both the cook and the waitress were coughing, it's only been 2 hours after my meal and I'm still ok. The food was prepared really quickly which I like. We started with the hand made goat cheese which was delicious and a bit toward the heavy side. For the main dishes we went with the chipotle chicken enchiladas and the shrimp tacos. I liked the chicken more mainly because it is not as healthy as the shrimp. This unassuming restaurant is conveniently located outside Zion National Park and serves up some of the most delicious, flavorful, and vibrant Mexican/Southwestern dishes I've ever had! However, although service was friendly and kept reassuring us that the food was coming, the food here was SLOOOOW. It took about 10 minutes to be seated (despite many open tables) and another 30 for our appetizer and entrees to come out. I overheard two take-out burgers took 35 minutes! I would've been so upset if the food tasted terrible, but thank goodness Whiptail delivered. I shared the chile relleno as a starter, which came out beautifully presented over a roasted tomatillo sauce. One cut into the panko-crusted chile and you'll see warm creamy goat cheese oozing out, which was a surprisingly delicious pairing with the fried chile and salsas. I've never seen chile relleno prepared this way before! My spaghetti squash enchiladas entree was just as unique - the choice of spaghetti squash in the enchiladas gave it a light and almost crunchy texture. Again, the goat cheese in this was stellar. If you're not a fan of goat cheese, you should steer clear of these two dishes (but you'll definitely be missing out!!). Food-wise, this was hands down my favorite meal out of my 5 day hiking trip.
