This is now the second time I've come here. This time was decidedly worse than the first. First thing...they're advertising themselves as a whiskey bar. Me and a buddy ordered two whiskeys, neat. Mine showed up with ice, his didn't even show up. When I pointed it out to the waiter they took the drink back and strained it into a new glass. If I wanted my whiskey cold I would have ordered it that way. You should have made a new pour. Second gripe...get some actual glass. Whiskey in a plastic glass is just dumb. Third. We ordered nachos. With chicken. Nachos showed up...you guessed it, no chicken. Just a terrible impression overall. I will not be returning. I've been here twice already but seems like prices have changed since the pandemic which is understandable. I don't have a problem paying for quality, but when the menu doesn't have a disclaimer of "gratuity" of a party more than 1 or maybe eating at the establishment you're hit with a 19% gratuity fee. The waiter said this is implemented due to The pandemic all over Chicago as a relief for restaurants yet restaurants need to understand there's no more government relief assistance at this time. Recommendation, take your food to go or check out another establishment since this is the only place I've been to in Chicago that has this in place. I would Atleast expect 5-star service from my waiter but he forgot to bring my party his cup of ice...oh well & yes I still tipped along with gratuity but hey (shrugs shoulders) Food was good but not filling, so don't come too hungry otherwise you'll leave spending there spending an arm and a leg. Really great service. Welcoming staff, super nice bartenders and servers all around and great vibes on the rooftop. The frozen Paloma was delicious and not at all too sweet for a frozen drink. The burgers are very well done and the wings have a bit too much thick sauce. I'd recommend coming here for drinks and great rooftop vibes over food. LOVED everything about Whiskey Business. We arrived about 11:45am for brunch on Saturday with a group of 5, easy street parking, and they gave us the option of multiple tables on their rooftop or their tables indoors. We all got the bottomless brunch deal and were SO glad that we did. I read reviews beforehand complaining of weak drinks that weren't filled often, but that was not at all our experience. I think I had about 7 mimosas in 2 hours, and they were plenty strong! We watched them pouring full bottles of champagne in each pitcher! Their bloody mary was delicious and strong as well! Lots of 20 and 30 somethings here, and it gets busy by 12:30. We got the chicken tacos (very mediocre) and the chicken and waffles (yummy!) for our meals, but honestly you come here for the atmosphere and the bottomless brunch, which are both stellar. I first noticed this place on TikTok and wanted to come visit. I was recently here for Movie Night on a beautiful Monday evening. The vibes on the rooftop were awesome and I loved the colorful decorations they had surrounding the area. We were greeted by our server once we sat down and we have her our drink order. I ordered a "lemon drop" and my husband ordered a Whiskey Business. Well to my surprise they brought me back a "shot" in a ball glass. Huh?!? What is this!? The server came back to our table and asked how we were doing and I said, terrible and showed her my drink. She instantly got an attitude because I complained (nicely) about what I received and the service went downhill from there. I don't think she wanted to serve us anymore after I expressed my feelings about the drink. Had to flag her down multiple times. Her ways definitely killed the mood for me but we still managed to watch the movie and then left. I wanted to try one of the loaded fries but it was too hard to get her attention so I just said "forget it". Early on I ordered the chicken sliders and they were really good. An absolute waste of money, myself and a couple friends met here for brunch. I was turned off from the moment I arrived. I entered at noon and I'm asked for I.D. but after making my way upstairs there was a toddler, which makes checking IDs pointless. The concept of this business is hard to figure out. The downstairs area is a dark bar, the steps leading to upstairs appear to be filthy. The rooftop has no view, it's covered in the disgusting green faux grass with metal chairs, on a hot sunny day you'll definitely be uncomfortable. The mimosas were made with cheap champagne, the food was the absolute worst. Soggy French toast, every dish we ordered was not worth our $$$. Fun! Fun! Fun! I came here for the Michigan State Final Four game. It was crazy busy, but able to get through the line quickly up to the rooftop. I recommend reservations if you're coming for an event, but we were able to snag a table after the Virginia game. I love the theme of Whiskey Business as it ties into the theme of Risky Business. Check out the drink names. Absolutely love the rooftop. It's a great place to celebrate Spring in Chicago. When the sun goes down, great lighting strung over the open rooftop. I read all these reviews about how fun it is to be here and on their Instagram it looks like a fun place to be. I made this a must go to place while I was on vacation and I wish I didn't even go. It was super bowl Sunday and this place was DEAD. Not the vibe I was expecting or looking for especially because again, their Instagram always shows this place is poppin. Mind you, we made reservations and all. We get to the restaurant and like I said dead, maybe like 5 people at the bar. They sat us upstairs and we just waited for someone to greet us as you would because you're at a restaurant table -- about 15-20 minutes later I finally get up and ask the bartender if someone is going to serve us and she advises that it's bar service only. However nobody told us and she didn't bother to tell us either. How were we supposed to know that if nobody told us? That was annoying. So IIIII, as if I worked there, took everyone's order so I could give it to the bartender. Our order came out wrong. The wings tasted like bagged Tyson wings. Yuck. The Mac and cheese that we ordered came out when we were done eating. Overall an annoying experience. The only reason I'm giving this place any kind of star is because of the manager Scott. New to Chicago and was excited to try my first MSU bar for March Madness. The actual set up of the bar is solid, tons of TVs and seating. The issue my friend and I had was with the service. They seemed very understaffed, when I first got there it looked like they were doing table service for food and drinks but it became clear after 30 minutes of being there that we had to go to the bar to order everything. The staff we did interact with was friendly enough though. This is definitely a place where people come to get rowdy which is totally fine but that is the energy for sure. For food we got the pretzel bites which were actually fire, we got the white truffle fries and were not impressed. Very poor customer service. I've tried contacting them numerous times via email and have left several voicemails. Not one person has tried to reach back to us. I'll leave it at that. As for everything else like food, drinks and atmosphere, that's also very low on the scale. For the first 30 minutes we were there, no one acknowledged us. we had 3 different servers coming to our table , not knowing that the previous one took our order and then they would be gone again for a long time. When I got the check I had to immediately pay as I was afraid it would take another 30 minute for them to come back. Just to let you know this was when they were empty. there was a handful of people there, they had just opened. I specifically selected this time because I didn't want to be there at peak time. I've never seen a worst display of hospitality in my entire life. If you read only one review about this establishment- you are reading the right one. I refused to write reviews during the pandemic because I truly believe that everyone during this time should be given the benefit of the doubt when it comes to mistakes being made. The service could be a tad lack luster but everyone has bad days and 2020 has had a bunch of bad days. I am a total empath to those who are working in the service industry. However, the staff at whiskey business rather be anywhere in the world but at work during their 50 dollar a person light show. The light show that I was anxiously awaiting to attend for my birthday was a far cry from how they advertised it on social media. You had to give a 50 dollar deposit and then an 18 percent gratuity no matter the service that was given. WHICH was horrendous. And horrendous being the under statement of the century. Keep in mind, I do not drink and the young blonde waitress kept aggressively pushing drinks on me. She said I wouldn't hit the minimum by ordering water. She then said "you're not going to hit $100 by asking for virgin pina coladas and daiquiris." I tried to order the milkshakes and the machine was broken but she forgot to tell me that until I had to remind her multiple times. She then asked if I wanted a shot instead and pushed them on us in order to meet the required amount of spend for the evening. She made my entire table uncomfortable by pushing drinks on me- someone who hasn't had a sip of alcohol in four years. It was WILDLY inappropriate behavior and she needs a course in etiquette before ever serving again. She was absent minded and was unaware of her surroundings. She wanted to wrap up the evening early and disclosed her true priorities. She let us know "We are so upset since our manager no longer allows us to drink on the job, so we are pissed and we are all trying to get this show over with so we can find another pub in the area and go drink." She then lied to us about how much we had left to hit our minimum and said that we had the choice to either take more shots or put it towards her tip but that the tip wouldn't be enough if that was the route we took. SOME nerve to be worried about what type of tip she may receive when she was attempting to assault my mouth with alcohol thee entire night or say one another asinine comment that disturbed us to our core. The other staff members were following her lead and cleaning up, vacuuming loudly next to our tables, turning off the lasers, turning on the lights and turning up their attitudes on full blast. There was a man who was literally pointing at me implying that I should leave while my party was in the washroom and I was waiting for them to leave. TRUST- I was not trying to stay any longer than I had to at your establishment. I attempted to take pictures at the event prior to leaving to remember the disaster of a night but they had already turned off the lasers and music 30 minutes prior to the end time of the show. This was not a laser show but rather a show in how NOT to stay in the Chicago night life industry for much longer. I give them a year tops before something else comes along and shows them how it's done. They need to get their acts together if they want to stay in business. I came here yesterday with a couple of friends to celebrate their birthday. Everything online looked amazing and really fun and for a mid-week early out and about, we were incredibly disappointed. We got there a little after 1pm. A group of 4 others came in but they say on the "Cheesies" side of the bar. We asked if the upstairs was open and he told us that they were working on some things. He took us upstairs and there were workers building the cabanas and installing the top covering for them. The whole deck was covered in boxes and tools. The bartender/cook/manager?/whomever he was, mentioned that they would be finished soon. So, we didn't give up right away, we thought we'll have some nice frozen drinks and get it started! NOPE! She asked him if she could get one of their frozen drinks. The machine had not been turned on and it was basically just syrup. NOTHING was ready! It's Thursday afternoon 1pm and you all open at 11am! Whiskey Business was one of my favorite places to visit last summer. The drinks were great, bathroom is CLEAN, staff was hospitable, atmosphere was amazing BUT my most recent visit was the absolute best. This is the only place that actually took my temperature and actively enforced/remained Covid-compliant. While we all want to go out, it is everyone's job to remain safe and stick to health guidelines- Whiskey Business did that and more. Not only were they Covid-compliant, the management and staff were still as friendly and professional as before + they have amazing new decor that adds to the already dope atmosphere. I asked our server how she felt about working during this time. Her response was so kind and showed that she really cares about the patrons. We all need to have more respect for Americans who make a living servicing others during this pandemic. They're making the choice to risk their health to remain financially stable just so we can have a good time! Once again, thanks to Sabah, the girls, and the doorman who all did a wonderful job! Came out here last Saturday for the first time for drinks on the rooftop and the place was cute. We were a walk in party of 5 and weren't picky if we had downstairs or upstairs, but preferred the upstairs to check out the rooftop. You may have to get a reservation and pay for your table ahead of time, which we were told a portion of your payment goes towards your bill. We got luckily and snagged a table in the inside of their bar in the upstairs level but we were not in the dedicated rooftop where there were couches and tables with umbrellas. The server was nice and helpful and I enjoyed the strawberry daiquiris, and almost everyone at my table ended up with a daiquiri! Their menu is a QR code that pops up on your phone to decrease germs spreading. They also played great music (top 40 hits), had TVs with sports games on, and even a photo booth! Overall, it was not crowded and tables were fairly socially distanced. If you walk around to go to the bathroom or stand at your table, you had to wear your mask, but if you're seated then you can take off your mask. Pretty cool place and wouldn't mind checking out their rooftop bar during the evening when they have their night events going on! read more

In a restaurant where humans servers interact with customers and take orders, if the restaurant runs out of the thing you ordered, that human server usually comes back to the table to inform the customer that they ran out and then can interact with the customer about other options. This does not happen at Whiskey Business. They have automated the ordering process so that it is all done online. When they ran out of an expensive whiskey I ordered, there was no server to return to the table to interact with me about this. Instead, after a half hour had passed without my whiskey showing up, I looked at my online account to see it had been crossed off my receipt, apparently because they ran out. But, they do not have a mechanism in place to interact with their customers about such things. I eventually flagged down a "server" and he did a good job of finding out what happened. So, their cost-cutting mechanism not only cost them the opportunity to sell some expensive whiskey (that would have made up for the extra cost of employing actual human beings), but also cost them this customer ever returning. This is sad because they have a decent whiskey selection (although their Scotch is a bit over-priced), and the food was pretty good. read more

Very overpriced. 18% gratuity added by default but service was not great, and the electronic billing tablet seems setup to allow the unwary to add a tip as normal, despite it being included already. Table felt dirty. Floor was so greasy my feet slipped with each step. Fries were awful, nachos and burger were excellent. These burgers are not worth $18. We felt ripped off. I was already stuffed with sushi from dinner and was disappointed that I did not have enough room in my belly to try their fried food. I didn't really hang out downstairs but stayed on the rooftop lounge. The vibe was great and the circular lounge chairs were really comfortable but too low to the ground. So if you got back problems I feel bad for you son! The music was good and played hip hop/top 40s but not loud enough to energize me from my food coma to get up and dance. So I just sat with the group of girls that I was with and people watched all night. And the place was packed so people watching was easy. I tried their Capri sun looking drinks and that was actually a cool idea. The rooftop had 3 jumbotron TVs that were waaaaay to bright that it was hard to look directly at it. A place with a name that plays on a great 80s movie, whiskey, AND fries?!? I was expecting heaven. Guess I kinda am. It is okay. It is just not the type of place I was expecting, nor the type of place that I usually hang out at with my friends. Many people come here dressed as if they are going to a club, which is cool with me, just unexpected. The rooftop is kind of set up for that kind of vibe. There is music blaring, huge bright TV screens near the back, beach-themed seating, and drinks galore. I would say it could be a way to pretend as if you are not in the middle of Chicago. However, sitting (comfortably) and trying to talk with your friends on the rooftop is a no-go. The rooftop seems strictly for drinking and impressing the opposite sex. We took our older, uncool butts downstairs. Downstairs is much more chill. 80s-themed lunchboxes adorn the tables as condiment holders. However, current pop was all I was hearing on the speakers. That was kind of a bummer. Let me finally talk about the service and food. Service was very spotty. It also took forever and a day to get our one large order of fries. However, once the fries came out, we did devour them. They were very tasty and cooked up nice and crisp. The sauces were good, but for the price we paid (15 bucks, I think?), I wouldn't say that the fries were life changing. I'm just as happy getting cheap fries from a place like Five Guys and doing it up with my own seasonings and dipping sauces at home (if I'm in the mood for being lazy, staying at home, and enjoying some fancy fries). The food and drinks at Whiskey Business were good, but unfortunately miscommunication seemed to be the theme of the evening which led to the experience being a hot mess. First we made reservations online and it said outdoor reservations were available so that's what we chose. When we go there we were informed the online system was wrong and we couldn't sit outside because there weren't any outdoor spots available. A bit annoying, but fine. When we were walking in one of my friends accidentally by-passed the guy checking IDs and he was so rude. He got mad that she bypassed him, mad that she didn't hear him call out to her even though he said hey so quietly that I barely heard him while standing beside him, and then rolled his eyes and mocked her when she came back and apologized for bypassing him. So we haven't even gotten to our seats yet and have a less than stellar experience going. All orders and transactions now take place via a website. I'm guessing this is to help with the staffing issues most restaurants are unfortunately currently facing. Totally fine and understandable, and this can be done well. Unfortunately this was not done well this evening. The poor waitress who told us she was our server seemed to be the only server working and was running around. This meant she didn't have much time to check on us which would have been fine if the people who did drop off our food and drinks asked if we needed anything before walking away. We had food for about ten minutes before finally getting someone's attention that we needed silverware. And my friend had a drink that didn't come for 30 minutes. The server working needed more of a team effort and help from the kitchen runners, hostesses, etc. and sadly she didn't get that which makes her look bad even though she's working her butt off. To top off the experience, online says you can have reservations for two hours, but that one security guard/ID guy from before came over after 90 minutes and said the hostess said we had to leave for another reservation. We mentioned what online said, but he said he wasn't aware of the rule and was just the hostesses' messenger. We could stay though while someone from our table talked to the hostess. We got it resolved and were able to stay for the full twos, but not sure why this miscommunication happened in the first place and why the host made the security be the messenger instead of coming over to us. Kiki was one of the best bartenders I have ever had. She was so funny and accommodating. I personally don't like very sweet drinks and she heard my concerns and made me the most delicious custom cocktails that could possibly exist. I am obsessed with her, and I can't wait to go back to visit her again. Anyone who comes here on a Saturday night should ask for Kiki, you won't regret it. read more

I had emailed this business a week before to make a reservation for my best friend's birthday. I followed the instructions on their website by emailing them if my party was bigger than 8. The website said that it'll take 1-2 days for a response. I had sent them an email on a Friday 05/14 and needed a reservation for 05/21. I finally called on Tuesday and a man picked up. He told me that I had to book a reservation a week ahead, I told him I did. I also told him I called and left voicemails. No one has gotten back to me. He got my information and said he will talk to his manager. Well it's 2 days before my best friends birthday and I called about 5 time today and no answer. I don't know who's in charge of emails but this is bad customer service and very unfair. Terrible. read more
