I have been to the Whisky a Go Go several times, and I have seen many different bands play there over the years. The venue is packed with incredible music history, having opened back in 1964 and hosted early shows for legendary acts like The Doors and Mötley Crüe. Inside, the space is dark, loud, and covered in old band stickers, giving it a raw, gritty rock and roll vibe. It holds a really special place for me because even my best friend has actually performed on that famous stage. Standing in that cramped, intimate room watching a live set is an incredible way to experience an authentic piece of Hollywood history. read more

Old school since 1964. They had the Ultimate Jam Night featuring various artists playing under Aero-Zep-Heart tribute. The show was free and many fans showed up to listen to some classic rock tunes. We saw Micro Mania Midget Wrestling here last night and it was an absolute blast. They set up the ring in the corner of the first floor, and you could watch from either level. The first floor had booths lining the walls, and the second floor had reservable tables with a great view. The show was scheduled to start at 8:30pm but didn't kick off until around 9, which honestly didn't matter once it got going. The commentator was hysterical, completely unhinged in the best way and added so much to the experience. The matches were nonstop entertaining, and the backstories were wild. One story about the troupe hearing about a midget living in a homeless shelter and going to pick him up to join the crew really stood out. It felt chaotic, heartfelt, and oddly wholesome all at once. The merch was just as funny as the show. We grabbed a signed poster from 25 Cent, which felt like a must. We were especially happy to finally catch them. We barely missed their Vegas show last year....our plane landed, we dumped our bags at the hotel, sprinted to the strip club, and arrived literally as the last bout ended. So this felt like redemption, and Whisky a Go Go was a perfect place to finally see it. Great experience all around. Would absolutely do it again. Get there early for good viewing spots, or just reserve a table and save yourself the stress. read more

I've been going to the Whiskey periodically for decades now and I always feel like I'm in an historic place...an historic music venue where usually I'm seeing new or lesser known bands, right on the same stage, in the same space where the most famous, legendary bands ever have performed. It's mind-blowing and epic to think about seeing my son's friend's high school band, rocking their instruments where The Doors and Led Zeppelin played. We were there for a mix of bands, headlined by Tommy Tutone (famous for the 80's hit 867-5309 / Jessie.) We had purchased bar stool seats on the upper level and were upgraded to an against the rail table which gave us a perfect and unobstructed view of the stage in an essentially tiny venue where anywhere you are will be a good place to be to see the bands. We enjoyed the variety of bands who played. The drinks we got were fine and I was happy that they had an Impossible patty available for their burger option. The bar staff were super-nice and accommodating. I'm looking forward to going back and dwelling in that historic space again soon. read more

I have been coming here for 40 years- and I love that it's still around! Is it small? Yes! But I love that it's small! I have seen some great shows here over the years, and there is nothing like being jammed in with so many other people having a great time enjoying some great live music! The place is iconic and has so much history- just walking into the place evokes so many wonderful memories for me. I love the fact that new and upcoming bands come here in hope to follow the success of the bands that were here before them. I love the joy and elation that the performers get from just being here! It is obvious and the joy is contagious! Even when it's packed, the bartenders and servers are fast, I never waited long to get a beer. The actual bartenders and box office were good. There was one specific security guard that was extremely rude, a ginger with a droopy face. I simply asked a question about upgrading our purchase for table seats and he immediately began giving attitude. Thank goodness for another security guard that let my boyfriend and I know that they were not going to accept tickets until a certain time, although the tickets said 6pm they did not let people in until 8:30pm without notice. If it was not for the younger security guard we would not have stayed. The younger security guard is a great example of how customer service should be handled. Kudos to him, the ginger security guard should take notes! Beware: avoid that security guard if you want to have a fun night. read more

I've been to the Whiskey a few times to see friends play, never really had an issue until recently. Went about a month ago, my husband gave me his card to buy myself and my friends some drinks while we were out. My friend bought the first round of drinks, no issues whatsoever. When I went to buy the second round, I went to use my husbands card and the bartender immediately asked for my ID. My friend didn't have any issues and wasn't asked for her ID, why am I suddenly being asked for mine? Since I was using my husbands card, she wouldn't give me the drinks she already poured since it didn't match my ID. I was watching the other bartenders to see if they were asking for IDs from others and they weren't, so I asked why she was singling me out and she advised she wasn't, and that it was the venues policy. Ok that's fine but no one else is doing it, so what am I missing? On top of that, the security was aggressive, literally shoving people toward the stage and screaming in people's ears "this is a fucking show, act like it!" Safe to say the ambiance is lacking and for such an iconic venue, you'd think they'd have better trained staff who pick and choose when to uphold protocols or generally harass guests. read more

By far the absolute worst onion rings I have ever had in my life. By leaps and bounds the very worst. It was almost intentionally bad. Like it was clear these were stale old onion rings that were previously fried ages ago, possibly refrigerated and then later refried and given to me with the most awful stale chewy old texture. And then had the nerve to also be completely saltless and bland as ever. Like why? What are you doing selling those to people?? You should pay me to ingest that science project. Don't get me wrong. The Robby Krieger show in observance of the Doors' 60th annviersary of their first appearance was truly spectacular - and is deserving of five stars. But what brings this rating down to just two stars was the aggressive behavior of at least two security personnel. Rude, pushing and shoving, yelling and downright unnecessary were their actions and one in particular appeared to be on a power trip. I suspect these two guys act the same way at other shows. So, the more complaints that go out, the more likely it is to get rid of them. Truly disgusting behavior towards ticket-buying concert goers. read more

Y'all, no hyberbole, the Whisky is SMALL! We visited on Monday 05/22/2023 to see the house band Fast Times (renowned '80's cover band), and had such a great time. As we were already in the LA area for a music festival, this night happened to be hubs' birthday, so of course I took him to a legendary rock & roll landmark. The first level has two bars, but few tables & seating. Upstairs offers more tables & seating, plus a good view & additional bar. Note, the stage & dance floor area encompasses a good chunk of the footprint downstairs, and security is rather strict on keeping the walkways open. Arriving later than we wanted (I had to work), we missed the Duran Duran cover band. But the lead singer did join Fast Times on stage for one song, which was a fun surprise (for me). We found a small table upstairs, which gave us a great vantage point. Drinks at the bars were expensive but service was efficient, and my cocktails were strong. We found parking on the roof of a small garage in the next block for $20. Since I'd signed up online for the guest list, we had free admission, and I appreciated paying for secure parking so close to the Whisky. April 2023 / Hollywood: A friend I've known since high school was visiting from Washington & we had tickets to a concert at Whisky-A-Gogo that we both were super excited about! Music & Hollywood is a fun combo! VIP Booth: Customer service was excellent from the moment we walked in! Our booth was labeled/reserved and had plenty of space, as well as cozy! Our server was highly attentive! (Thanks again!) Food & drinks: Loved the jalapeño poppers, seasoned curly fries & drinks were mouthwatering & refreshing, along with bottled water! Concert: So Many performances were so amazing!! Several artists I had never heard of, but enjoyed immensely, as the energy was amazing & the flow was on point! There was definitely a mix of performers; some established...others...maybe we're making their debut?! Overall: Fun & upbeat atmosphere with excellent service, loved it! Went on a Wednesday night to see a friend's band. Bought a table on the railing upstairs - it seats two, but I was solo and didn't want to mess with the GA SRO floor. Parking ($20) was easy and convenient in the lot directly behind. Note that the sign boldly states $15, yet in small print adds that's for the first hour, after which there's a $20 max. I was told my table had a reserved sign with my name and I located it easily. Problem was that whoever was announcing the bands also mentioned on several occasions they had booths for rent. Well, the tables and booths upstairs were not sold out. Many were available. Instead of a Reserved sign on those, there was nothing. And random people would sit at those. Security wasn't making rounds checking, and the night was not busy. So why did I spend $100 when I could've just snagged one of those? To further add insult, about 10 minutes before I left for the night, a large foreign-speaking man with broken English sat down at my table next to me. His friend sat next to him, at a vacant table. I turned to look at him and he just stared back. Clueless. But since I knew I'd be out of there decided to say nothing. No wristbands were given for the tables, which would've been another simple solution. But again, that would require a security person to still monitor who's sitting where. Yes - on a packed night I'd expect this to not be an issue since all tables would be booked. I do have a compliment: Barbara was the bartender and took amazing care of me with drink and food orders. She's great!! Huge kudos. Food: started with the potato skins. Oddly I received 5 halves. Where was #6? Probably went the way that a half egg goes when you order deviled eggs somewhere but just get 3 halves. Potatoes had fresh bacon crumbles, but then there was a half slice of the equivalent of a Kraft Single laid on top that sort of melted onto the bacon. No chives. Just a little container of sour cream. Potatoes were cooked well though. And they were still baked potato skins, so you can't go too wrong. Then ordered the cheeseburger and fries. Fries were great! Cheeseburger (that same Kraft Single) was meh. But I wasn't go there for the food. Again, huge kudos to Barbara! Very funny. Very nice. And of course I'll be back soon. This is a great venue. A whole night concert, lots of space, great speakers, great lights, amazing performance. Can't believe it's $10/or FREE!! Our friend's visiting parents from mid-west interest of this show got us here last month. Parking: Valet $10, or $15 on a Monday night. There were plenty of meters but actually cost the same but you'll have to feed the meter so just pay valet. Admission: $10 cash. Or if rsvp just that morning through their band site, it's free! Crowd: Thought it would be all tourist but hard to tell. Many people dressed up for 80s night in darker attire vs colorful ones...wondering if it could be just certain people's daily style. Really not much people. Upstairs seating get filled up by mid show. Down stairs are the dancers, and a few of them. Maybe at 25% capacity? We don't mind. Love having so much space. Option to sit or join in dancing downstairs. We danced upstairs instead though by our high top tables. Security is heavy which I'm fine about. - Upstairs is seating for those of us grabbing snacks/food too. You don't have to order meals worth. $8.50 fries were huge portion for sharing. Bar and merch upstairs too. Best view to watch too! - The 1st floor you enter has the performance stage, dance floor, restrooms, bar, merch. We came to see Black Sabbath and the singer was great! Come early to grab a table upstairs. We came at 8pm when it opened. Bartender-tress was really sweet. Forgot drink prices but all of us plan to return again with a bigger group. read more

What a great Halloween party and private venue that took place at the Whisky A Go-Go!! I've never been here and I can see now why it's so popular! The lay out of the space and stage, the sound, ambiance and vibe were incredible! The food trucks were hired and well done as well as great service and security! I will definitely head back again. If you would have told me a couple months ago that I'd be a groupie to Gaba Groove, I wouldn't have believed you but here we are! First time attending the Whiskey which was a cool experience. I was able to see both sides of the Whiskey from the bands POV minus the actual preforming and the audience's POV. The venue itself is two stories which is where we spent time watching the other bands. Once it was my boyfriends time to preform, he made his way to the green room to prepare with his band. At this time I went to the bar to get myself a drink for their set. I got a twisted tea which was $10 for the can. I wanted a better view of Gaba Groove so I made my way down to the pit area where the other family was of the band. They started preforming which was a mix of covers and mostly original pieces! Out of the three shows I've attended, this one was their best! After they were done we did stick around to see the band after which was fun. My husband and I gave up on Hollywood music venues years ago because they were dirty, crowded, drunken and exhibited a lack of care for patrons by staff. But we had to go last Monday to see Mojo Risin on Jim Morrison's birthday. We had never been to the Whiskey and were really surprised at how great it was! The staff, on the phone and in person, were wonderful. We had a balcony front row seat and could see everything. The best part, though was the band!! Doors tribute bands are usually lousy. It is hard to re-create the 4 piece band, the keyboard player has to play bass with one hand and most can't do it well. Every member of the band was world class! Every song was crisp and the crowd was really into it! Even on a Monday! We will come back to the Whiskey, and epecially if Mojo Risin is there. read more

Really fun Sunday morning. Our friends Daughter Owns School of Rock in woodland hills we came to see her grandson solo an Elvis song and play bass . Sunday was their performance debut for the current class. The kids all did super jobs , mostly playing classic 1950's rock . One of the young ladies graduated out of the program and she had a beautiful signing voice. Another young lady who sang told us how much music helped her anxiety and being in front in the stage wasn't scary for her . Service: We had to get our own drinks from the bar but 5 stars to the Manager & staff who went out of their way at our request for a bloody mary. The bar tender told us 15 minutes they will be back . they went to purchase the mix and brought back spicy and standard. since this was a 10:00 door call we weren't interested in scotch at 10 am. Big Kudos for the Managers . They generally don't carry it since they are 99% a night club. understandable and impressive that they took the extra step for non professional performance guests . We will be back for some Major Rock concerts here . Know that there is very little seating so be first in line for open seating and wear comfy shoes because you have 50% chance of SRO , besides if your here for a concert I doubt you'll be spending too much time sitting . Not at all what I expected. Very different vibe than the Viper Room. This was 2003 mind you, but I didn't feel welcomed. No one chatted with us, was smaller than I imagined but that's not a reason to knock off stars. The lack of welcome was though, zero bienvenido unfortunately.
