We always enjoy the WE when we are in Englewood. It's got a great atmosphere and the servers are friendly. The food is your basic bar fare and is not bad. Live music most days which can be a plus or minus depending on the performer. We went yesterday because they have outdoor seating; we were the only people wearing a mask other than the cleaning lady. The hostess wouldn't even make eye contact with us. There is a lot of fresh air in the bar area, but I still was taken aback at the lack of concern over spreading the virus. Ordered food and drinks that never came... we wanted to order a second time with again zero response! How do businesses stay in business these days with service like that?? We were happy with our distancing outside but we only stayed for a round of drinks because our server wasn't wearing a mask. I saw others were though, so maybe ours had a reason not to but we weren't going to stick around and find out. Wife said her wine tasted cheap. Our bill was $15. read more

Trying out new waterside dinjng spots. We found this one. Greeted by a nice guy watching to parking lot named Randy. Small deck area to eat, but got a nice table. Simple food but great. Wife got a seafood salad, me just s jumbo hotdog. The had live music inside that was right off deck area. You can pull biat right up to dock and come in and beach is right across the street Not expensive. Staff hustles to take care of everone. Will definitely be coming back. read more

Hmmmm, so I had a warning that this place was gritty but ignored that and went anyways,. I love dive spots like the White Elephant and it's near the water so it had to be a cool, fun local spot right? Well, it was. Beautiful view of the dock and very serene with a huge patio area. On the flipside? On the patio, it smelled like some concoction of hot trash, bad cheese and homeless. Yes, all three co-mingled together in a funky harmony. No matter what I didn't I couldn't escape the smell and it just reeked. As unpleasant as the odor was, the food was great! They had a sweet selection of seafood baskets and entrees, burgers and appetizers. I got the fried grouper finger basket which came with a generous portion of crinkle cut fries and cold slaw. White Elephant is not all about saving the earth as they don't have condiment bottles at the table--just packets. Good for me though because I swiped some ketchup for the road. Salt of the earth people, great bar food and terrific view. An ideal place to go if you can't smell. read more

Would do zero stars if it was an option. One of the worst dining experiences of my life. Waiter had no care for us or our table. One of guests had the food come out 20 minutes after the rest of the table and the waiter didn't acknowledge or offer to take anything off the bill as the rest the table was pretty much done by the time it came out. The grouper was so dry it was hard to eat and had very little flavor. I will give it to the bartender credit he was working his ass off and getting drinks out quick but the waiter was taking about 30 minutes in between time to check on us. Terrible dining experience and will not be coming back ever again as the bill was not very cheap and everything but the bartender and beer was terrible. read more

Actually, I'd go 3.5 stars. It's a nice place right on the bay, beautiful water, boats, etc. There was a decent guitarist /singer performing. The waitress was a very nice young lady. Ordered nachos for an app, and fried chicken dinner that came with potato wedges and slaw. The dinner was excellent. Very lightly battered chicken, juicy and tasty. Potato wedges were done very well, and slaw was good. The nachos came after dinner because there was no chili ready. It had a ton of cheddar (?) cheese on it, and was large, but not very good. I would steer clear of the nachos. One of my dinner companions had a Chef's Salad...which was said to be excellent. Veggies and meats were fresh and tasted good. 4 stars The other had a Philly Cheese Steak, which was just ok. The meat seemed like processed meat, apparently. 3 stars. read more

Food missed the mark. Great location and open air seating. Food was bland and disappointing. Tarter sauce, ranch, ketchup were all in packets or disposable cups. Chips and salsa were Tostitos and Pace salsa. Service was good, our server did an excellent job! read more

I was on my honeymoon, we pulled into the lot to park. Got out of the car to go in. There was a parking person. I asked if this was the White Elephant. He was very rude and treated me as if I was stupid for asking. We went in, we were very displeased with his rude condensending remarks. We turned around to leave. I got in the car while my wife asked why he was being such an ass. His reply was "I put I was an ass hole on my resume, that's how I got the job" I will never recommend the place to anyone. read more

Went to see a great band and they certainly were However the Hostesswhos name is LIZZY was quite rude. she sat us at a table so far in the corner on the deck that we were very uncomfortable. when we asked her several times for a different table, which there were several , she was rude and walked away. every time someone looked for her, she was out back chain smoking. furthermore a hostess is the first person a customer sees. I would never let my employee greet customers in a oversized mens type t-shirt so that it looked like she had no pants on. Waited almost an hour before having to go up to the bar and ask another server for our check; Meanwhile our server watched with absolutely 0 regard for us. Overheard our waitress comment "I didn't think they wanted food" despite us blatantly asking her for recommendations when we ordered drinks. Whoever owns this obviously doesn't have any vested interest in it. In need of management. Having been a server for a few years myself, was going to tip well and buy T-shirts. We ventured in on June 13th after a morning at the beach! The Sand Bar next door was absolutely packed so we decided to try the White Elephant. As we walked to the hostess station the hostess looked at us, and than the phone rang, which she answered. It turned out to be the owner or manager asking about staff, and she proceeded to have a lengthy conversation about who called out, who was there......she never greeted us, and we she finally got off the phone we asked if there was a table near the water. Instead of asking to hold on a minute while she checked the table status of diners, she said no and we were led to a table near the railing. No sooner had we sat down than three tables on the water got up and left. A good hostess would have knowledge of the tables. We would have happily waited a few extra minutes. Our waiter was not very knowledgeable about the menu. I had the haddock which was beyond delicious but getting Ken's packaged ranch and tarter sauce was very off putting...How hard is it to make tarter sauce that is fresh and tasty, not to mention how easy homemade ranch dressing is! The cole slaw was terrible, no flavor! The french fries were awful and cold. There was live music which was absolutely FANTASTIC, however a bit too loud. We were totally unimpressed with staff, who clearly were not enjoying their job or being there. Not one of the staff greeted their tables, not one of the staff was smiling, no one checked to see if our meal was ok after we were served, no one checked to see if we needed anything else. We than waited 20 minutes for our bill, apparently our waiter went on a break, and did not ask anyone to cover his tables, or check on his tables before going on his break. Being a "local" now on Manasota Key, it is insane that you have to pay over $50 for 4 cocktails! I can see gouging the tourists who come down for a few days and expect to pays those kind of prices, but really?!! We really want to be able to support the local restaurants, but it makes it really difficult to do so at these prices! These guys served my daughter raw chicken. The owner apologized and comped half our bill. The whole exchange with the owner was very off putting and did not feel guinuine! This place is completely understaffed and has no actual manager, it's a mess. read more

The location and the beachy vibe is why you go here! It is directly across from the Englewood beach and has plenty of parking! The space is mostly open air dining where you can see the channel on the backside. There are 2 different large bars and lots of TVs. I personally have only ever had the peel and eat shrimp (warm not cold) and they are good! I've heard the food is fine, nothing five stars but not bad either. Service has been quick and pleasant every time we've gone. Get a Pina Colada: not too sweet but very creamy, coconuty and good size! read more

A true down home Florida gulf bar. This is what I imagine when I think vacation on the gulf. Super laid back, TONS of outdoor seating and a great view of the west side of the "island." The tables have that kitschy tiki style roof, and they provide nice shade. They had a guitarist playing all kinds of hits and lots of tropical tunes. He was great, actually. He let me sing a song with him, too! Ha, that was fun. The coconut shrimp was great, and so were the cocktails. It's quite pricey though, for a tiki bar. Summer in Manasota Key means long lazy nights at the Elephant. Perfect location to watch the boats, the people, and listen to music. Super friendly and attentive servers who are a part of the party! After a few Rum Runners you are a million miles from home. Did not try the food but the grouper tacos swam by and looked great. The volume gets turned up as the night goes on and you can't help but feel the rhythm as you chant the Ohio Buckeyes fight song and make out with your girlfriend. read more

Cool place but our waitress sucked. We sat at are table for tens minutes and she never came over to ask us for order drinks. Another couple sat down next to us and the waitress took there drink and food order. Once we saw this we just got up and left. I hope it was just are waitress and not everybody that works there. I am a person of second chances so I am gonna give it a second chance later in the week hopefully when that person Is not work. Until then my rating stays at 1. I will write a second review on my next visit. 4-21-2010... Never got to go back. Guess the expression is true that you never get a second chance to make a first impression. read more

Disappointed, most of the reviews are good. Stopped in for dinner, great atmosphere. Extremely slow service. At one point we thought our waitress left. Although she was nice, just extremely slow. Now for the food... horrible hamburger. I only took a few bits, just couldn't do it. Most disgusting burger I have ever tasted. It was either bad meat or they were trying to pass off a plant-based burger as real meat. I had an allergic reaction to something in the burger because my lip is swollen up. Started to swell after leaving, still swelled this morning. A woman at the table next to us also ordered the burger and didn't eat it because of the taste. When we told the waitress, she said we are not the only people to complain, several others had also. Why would they keep serving the burgers then?! Will not be returning. read more

Went there for lunch today. I ordered the chilled shrimp salad for lunch. This was not a lunch size salad! For $15.95, it was no more than a side salad with shrimp. I ordered blue cheese crumbles, which amounted to no more than a teaspoon, and charged extra for it. The salad dressing was a packet of Paul Newman dressing. I asked for another packet, but never received it. I get that restaurants are trying to catch up with the lost business of last year, but minimizing portions will not bring customers back. This was my first and will be my last time there. Very disappointing. read more
