In short Very welcoming inside, fancy for a pho place. Food, service, and prices are all on point. In long I came in at lunchtime on a Saturday and it was pretty packed. Whatever Yelp might think of it, this place is popular. I am pretty sure the only person not speaking Vietnamese was me. It's on a bit of a hill with kind of a rad peekaboo view across the river valley to the mountains. Not what you'd expect on E Mall Way. You go up some stairs and in you go--nice wooden tables and chairs, big fish tanks at each end of the dining room, framed oil paintings, twin grandfather clocks. Not at all like any other pho joint I can think of around here. Tons of cultural artifacts, especially around the counter. You can hardly see the lady back there, but she calls out a warm greeting as soon you step in. There's a little flat screen, maybe tuned to the game, very low sound. I was the only one looking at it today. The menu is pretty short, mostly pho and vermicelli bowls. Food comes out practically right away! I ordered a large, which is on an oval crockery platter with condiments surrounding the soup. Nice presentation (also unlike any other place I can remember). The broth is dark, fairly clear, nice rich seasonings and a bit of bone stock to it. Plenty of nice pieces of meat, kinda light on noodles compared to some spots but turned out to be a nice filling serving. The hot coffee was great, and the whole meal was $22. I never got what the big deal was with the pho craze but after this experience, I am hooked. My husband ordered the medium and I ordered the small (which was plenty) No. 15 which was the shrimp and veggie pho with won tons. The broth was so tasty and really didn't need anything else but my husband (a pho novice) insisted I put the Thai basil, the beansprouts and the jalapeños in my soup along with some hoisin and hot chili and sriracha. Talk about a flavor explosion! I can't wait to go back and try some other items from their menu. Upon opening the box, the first thing that got my attention was the type of noodles used for the Phad Thai. It is not the same noodles I am used to seeing for Phad Thai, Which I believe IMO gives that authentic taste. These noodles are more like the chow fun style. I went here despite reading the reviews because its right next to my favorite boba place. I left feeling unsatisfied. The service is ok. It isnt very clean and it's freezing inside. The food isn't anything I'd go back for. We all had pho and the broth was just really bland. I had beef, mom had shrimp, and my daughters had chicken. No one finished their food or took it with them. The tables are way too close. I felt like the people sitting next to us were pretty much at our table. I didn't feel like I had any personal space at all.
