It's hard to dislike this place, but it's also difficult to really fall in love with it. (It's like dealing with a pretty ex that tries to murder you in your sleep after making love to you). Caveats: Came here on a Sunday evening, somewhat touristy weekend, but they had 5 or less parties to serve. Pros: Beautiful venue , landscape, ambience, tasty food Cons: Tiny menu, Tiny Servings, Tiny Bar... but PRICEY. Family of 4 = $100 easy The location is in a very posh part of Florida, which probably calls for the pretty serious pricing, so I kinda get it.... well.... I'll just disagree and move on to that later. It's a beautiful venue with just a few seats inside and outside, has a guy playing decent songs on acoustic guitar. Also noticed that nobody really applauded him or really even acknowledged him. Outside there is a fire pit where people can sit around and communicate freely while careful not to set themselves on fire due to the shifting winds. Decorations were a blend of modern with a touch of neon and unique artifacts from the ocean and its history. The bar top, while pretty, has around 10 seats, which seemed small relative to the size of the building for some reason, guessing that the building seems to be centered around this small bar. Could be an optical illusion! Pricing! $23 for a "local" fish Sammich, meaning a 4-6 oz serving of fried, blackened, grilled fish. $16 for two fish tacos..(flour tortillas only, no corn) $9 for white queso dip for 4 people, but not enough chips for 2 people. Want more chips? $2 more actually! (Never happened in this or prior lives that know of. And it's not the $, it's just the idea of having to pay more for something you should include enough of in the first place., especially something so dirt cheap. Left a bad impression on me I guess) Portions: SMALL... even the water is served in 3-5 oz decorative glasses, leaving the server to have to come by several times. Cokes are served in the small souvenir bottles, hardly enough to wash down salty seafood or fries. Hint: Seafood is salty, so customers need more water. Get large decorative glasses so they don't have to keep waiting on refills from staff. Taste: Despite the relatively small portions the food flavor, texture, temp was all very nice. No complaints. Would I come back? Unless everything was packed I would not return. ONLY because the portions of basically all the items from the tiny glasses to the extra money for more chips + the small but expensive tacos and sandwiches just made me feel like I was on an episode of Impractical Jokers. Suggestions: Bigger glasses, don't make people pay for more chips read more

The raging red tide was a huge bummer for our quick getaway to LBK, but the food saved us, especially our lunch at Whitney's. A very cool Art Deco diner vibe with food and drinks that I'm still thinking about, this place was a delicious delight in all of the ways. The cocktails were perfect--a refreshing way to kick off the appetizer of the best crab cake I've ever had. Now, I don't normally order crab cakes because I am always disappointed and underwhelmed, but when our server said guests from Maryland consistently say they are the best crab cakes, we thought we'd give it a try. So glad we did! I ordered the fish tacos and my husband got the fish sandwich with sweet potato fries. SO. GOOD! We ended the meal with a second round of drinks and their ricotta sugar cinnamon donuts. As much as we wanted to finish everything, we took a few donuts home. Honestly, the food, ambiance, and service was so wonderful, I considered coming back for dinner to try their chilled seafood platter. Whitney's is an amazing place. Food is terrific. Servers are super nice. Drinks are great. And ambiance is perfect. So why the 4 stars? Three reasons: 1) Pacing is super slow :( Went on back to back days last week and both times drinks came out 20+ minute after ordering. Order was super simple - beer and frose. So this is really on the bar tender. Gotta get much faster or hire multiple folks. Food took a long time to get served as well, but had drinks arrived quicker it wouldn't have been noticed. 2) The Free wifi service is horrid. There is no excuse in 2021 to not have great Wifi service everywhere. Worth exploring if a Google Wifi mesh router set up would handle the inside seating and outside seating with ease. 3) If you sit outside in the afternoon, be prepared to be bothered by the flys/insects. I live in Florida. I eat at outdoor restaurants a lot. Am telling you it was noticeable. Bring your bug spray. My wish is some simple citronella type solution be provided. Despite all the above I love Whitney's and plan to return. I hope these things are fixed. I urge all that haven't tried it, to go. It's a neat place and island favorite. With a little effort it can easily scale to new heights. read more

What a pleasant surprise! The first thing I noticed is the clever and elegant design of the building and grounds. Great use of space. Service was good and the menu small but nice choices. My husband and I shared a house salad with champagne vinaigrette which was very fresh and delicious. I had the cheeseburger and he had the salmon- both were done to perfection. The salmon had just the right amount of teriyaki sauce and fresh cabbage, red pepper slaw. The burger was made with quality ground beef and I loved the sautéed onions. The owners really paid attention to detail here. We will definitely be back. read more

Atmosphere nice but almost all of the tables were dirty when we walked up. We were told to seat our self. My husband ordered the chic sandwich and I ordered the lemon pancakes and kids mac n cheese. Order came but they delivered two chic sandwiches, my lemon pancakes were missing. Waiter found out AFTER he delivered the food to the table that they were out of the pancakes. SO, I ordered the chic sandwich (probably received the one they accidently brought to the table initially by mistake). Anyway...had to ask for silverware/napkins. The food was okay. The waiter was nice/ pleasant and ended up only charging us half price for the second chic sandwich and provided our grandaughter with free donut holes. Probably won't come back. There are just too many places to choose from that have clean tables, quicker service, etc. Overall the experience was just okay. read more

I have driven by Whitney's a hundred times and always say to myself I need to stop and try that place. Well tonight was that night. Some dear old friends who lived here there whole life moved recently but came back into town and they suggested Whitney's. What a cool place. An old 76 station turned into a restaurant. Outdoor seating for the brave this time of year lol. I can't imagine what the electric bill looks like with the garage door open the whole time and the a/c pumping. I had the fish tacos with the fish blackened. A squeeze of lime on it and bam we had a dang good fish taco. My only criticism is it only came with two tacos. That type of flavor needs 3 to satisfy. So if you are like me and live local and haven't been you must make a plan and go. Worth it! read more

Great spot in Longboat Key! I always love coming here for either lunch or live music on Friday nights, and they're also dog friendly. For starters, their staff is super friendly and the atmosphere and ambiance are fresh and cool. I love trying new cocktails where ever I go, but when I'm here their Frozé is the best I've had (I order it with an extra shot of Tito's). Every menu item we've tried has been great! I especially love the Grouper Bites and Steak, Chicken, or Grouper Sandwiches- all are very tasty and pretty big portion sizes. For lunch you usually can walk in and grab a table, but during the live music on Friday nights you may be finding yourself waiting awhile for a table because of how popular it's been. Definitely a hidden gem along the road but I highly recommend trying this place out if you have a chance! read more

The vibes here were great. The service was good and the food could've been better. The food: (specifically the Whitney Burger) seems like it could be good enough to enjoy with little effort; seasoning the burger meat, grilling the bun so it's not cold and actually melting the cheese onto the patty would've made the experience worthwhile. The service: we came just before they stopped taking tables. Our waiter was friendly, even though it seemed to be the end of a long shift with potentially rude customers due to the lackluster food. Certainly nothing to complain about. The vibes: quite frankly immaculate. Whitney's was clearly a gas station back in the day and it's been transformed into a lush, mid-century wonderland perfect for shade-covered afternoon drinks. I should also mention that we received a raw burger on the first go-round, but it was quickly remade (clearly used a whole new patty) and a round of drinks was comped for us because of it. Again, nothing to complain about, things happen. What matters to me is how it was handled, which was with grace. Would I return? Absolutely. It's a wonderful little spot that shouldn't be passed up just because the food isn't top tier. Stop here for a drink before/after dinner or the beach. You won't regret it! read more

Whitney's is so cute. I have been looking at it for awhile on tiktok and just got the chance to get over to longboat key. Has the best vibe and decor. Unfortunately the food didn't match the ascetic. We got the queso dip for a starter. It came out lukewarm and with stale chips :(. We also got the LBK bowl and fish tacos. Both were a 4/10. They just didn't taste good. I'm hoping they can make some changes and get the food tasting better! It was way too expensive for food that wasn't good! Such a cute place but really disappointing food. Bathrooms were so,so dirty too! I really believe with some changes it can be a better place :). read more

Extremely limited seating. If you're eating breakfast there, I assume you have to be there at opening. The vibes seem alright but it is open air so if you want air conditioning you'll need to find somewhere else to go. It's apparently seat yourself, which you won't find out until several servers stare at you blankly for a while. While we wandered around the small place looking for seating, which there was none, the vibes seemed great. However we didn't stay for anything as we were too frustrated with there being no seating whatsoever and promptly left. read more

Excellent choice. Atmosphere: Amazing vibe. Laid back with very cool Beach decor. Inside and outside dining available (prob 60% of seating is outside). Food: Snapper was excellent, tender, fresh, flavorful. I don't care for oysters, but tried one and it was excellent. I could have eaten all of them. They were "charred" and flavorful. The grouper bites were hot and fresh. The tartar that came with them was excellent. The donut holes were a fun add and were coated with sugar (not too much sugar) and cinnamon. Comfort: We sat on one of the outside benches and I'm probably just getting a little old, but it was uncomfortable after 15 min. Service: Server knew menu, provided excellent feedback and was attentive without rushing us. She swapped out chips on the grouper bites for fries with no charge. Drinks: Wife ordered the Golden Hour. Nicely balanced and refreshing. Most drinks come in can or bottle so no free refills. Bill: Ticket suggests a good tip is 25%. read more

A cool ambiance and vibe cannot make up for poor service and subpar food. We went in for dinner on a weeknight and it wasn't too busy. We were greeted by a very disgruntled face and told to sit wherever. From what I saw, there was only one server working and he didn't appear to be in a rush to serve anyone. We waited about 15 minutes for someone to approach us with menus. Another 10 to order. After 5 minutes he came back that one drink wasn't available so we got another. Then that one wasn't available either so we settled with water. After waiting patiently for our food, I was underwhelmed by dry and tough fish tacos. The other food was okay. We got there and there were a lot of empty tables. We were a big group and expected a wait but we weren't even sure they put us on a list as the bartender seemed unwilling to take the responsibility and called out to an older gentleman who was waiting tables. I look around at a pretty empty eating area with dirty tables everywhere. I get the staffing issues restaurants have but they seemed really unorganized. Unfortunately we left before we could experience the food. Maybe things are better during lunch. However sadly I will not be back. read more

Super cute vibe of old Florida and vintage diner, atmosphere both inside and out were nice. Sat inside for the AC, great service.
