Traveling through Santa Fe for Christmas and came across this wonderful BBQ restaurant. I had the ribs with potato salad and cole slaw. Lovely wife had the pulled pork sandwich. The ribs were award winning and incredible but the star was the potato salad. Creamy and smooth. I have never tasted such great potato salad. My wife loved her pulled pork but like me, the potato salad was the hit. Fantastic service, pristine throughout. We will be back next year! read more

Visiting from California and decided try out the ribs. Man they were good! We ordered 2 racks and a quart of beans. These ribs were some of the best I've ever tasted and the beans were on point too. If I lived out here I would be a regular customer. read more

Okay. So I have never been to the WWC down on Cerrillos, so when we saw this one had just opened in our area we decided to try it. Eh. The meats and everything were so-so. We both got Beef Brisket. Date's bun was dry and the coleslaw looked...watery.. Only real problem is, besides the semi-confused and spacey staff is this: When I ordered the Beef Brisket Wrap off of the wall menu, I distinctly remember checking the 5 or 6 ingredients for avocado/guacamole. I know we in Santa Fe just can't get enough of it, BUT my date is allergic to it. And I mean, not enough time to get to the hospital, die on the restaurant floor allergic. So. When I check the 5 or so ingredients listed under my wrap, I'm like "ok, cool. I can share." Good thing I didn't share though, because my very first bite had some green avocado-colored ooze come out. Well...unless they make a ghetto pesto (which I am SUPER allergic to), they make a ghetto watery looking guacamole ooze that probably would have murdered my date. I don't know. It's a small thing - I know we're all about our spreads in NM. I expect green chile in everything, yeah. But, shouldn't it be listed? If I were allergic to Beef and was blatantly ordering beef, that would be my fault. I do not see myself at fault here. I should not have to ask if they put it in there if it's not listed. In the end, my 2 stars aren't even for that incident. Food quality was "meh". read more

I've sampled only the pulled pork and the brisket. Since for me a BBQ place stands or falls on its brisket, I'd have to say that Whole Hog fails miserably. It's simply incredible that the self-styled BBQ "experts" on this page could think the dry, tasteless meat (devoid of smoke flavor) served here is even edible, let alone "excellent." From pulled pork, pulled chicken, sliced beef brisket, pork loin, sausage, and baby back pork loin ribs. All of the meat is smoked with a variety of spices and pecan wood. You can get the meat served in a variety of ways from sandwiches (with coleslaw of course), plates (that focus on the meat with an option of two sides-baked beans with pulled pork, a delicious potato salad, yummy coleslaw, potato chips, green salad, or cucumber salad!), wraps (that come with with a delicious homemade tomato and green chile salsa), platters (that have a variety of meat and sides), and my personal favorite-THE FULLY LOADED BAKED POTATO!!! The baked potato is large and filled with butter, sourcream, cheese, and chives topped with the meat of your choosing! You can't go wrong here, and once you order you help yourself to drinks and silverware! Free refills, very casual, pick a seat anywhere, and they bring the food to you. Great sauce options, but my brisket was too moist for comfort and contained strange ligament-type structures that I couldn't continue to eat. My quest for good bbq in Santa Fe led me here, but it was a major disappointment for my palate. This is the worst bbq I have ever tasted. The buns were raw hamburger buns straight from the package. The pork was dry, and the sausages were steamed and cut in circles. The sausage should be cut lengthwise and grilled, at the least. Do yourself a favor and stay away. read more

This place hits the spot every time even when I'm not sure what I want to eat. Can't go wrong with bbq! The location is a bummer for me since they moved downtown. I don't go here as much as I used to when they were located on cerillos. I usually get a bbq chicken sandwich and substitute baked beans for the slaw. They do this at no extra charge which is nice. If I'm feeling really hungry I get a combo plate and this leaves me with enough for left overs later. It's a good value. Although since I first discovered them their prices have gone up a bit. Also im a huge sauce lover and I love that they have 6 different sauces to choose from, my faves are 3 and 6 cause I gotta have my spice. read more

Coming from someone who rarely enjoys BBQ outside of Texas, this place is great. Great service, great BBQ, great ambiance. Ordered just about all the meats you can get, short of the ribs. The pulled pork, sausage, chicken, brisket were all great. The slaw was a little on the dry side, but still good. The potato salad was my favorite. But the sauces were the real winner here. They have six sauces and a spicier one called the Volcano, which you can get behind the counter upon request. They were all great, #2 and #5 being my favorites. This place is definitely a must stop for anyone in need of some good BBQ for a great price as well. read more

Some people love falling of the bone ribs, but when a barbecue boils ribs to accomplish this all the flavor of the meat disappears and you can only taste the sauce. I could not eat more than one rib. It tasted like a wet dish cloth with sauce. read more

Friendly service and fairly prompt. Can't say I was wowed by the food, but I'm not a BBQ sauce person, I prefer to eat actual BBQ. Got the whole hog plate, was dismayed to see they had swabbed my ribs with sauce (I'd have like to have tried them naked first). Here's the deal with sauce and BBQ: sauce is just hiding poor meat and/or poor BBQ technique. That said, all the meat was on the dry side and all lacked that distinctive BBQ smoke rind and coloration. Yes, the ribs fell off the bone but this is likely due to boiling and not due to slow smoking. All of the meat was uniform in degree of dryness, not so dry as to be a disaster but dry enough that even I resorted to the sauce. Baked beans were far too sugary. I actually liked the coleslaw, nice and peppery without an overwhelming amount of mayo. The potato salad was absolutely out of this world amazing. Seriously, get like a pint of that stuff and hoard it at home. It's really, really good. Overall not an awful experience, but if I go back it will be just for the potato salad. read more

Down south touring (chorkle, snicker) Santa Fe and our first stop is BBQ (really?). Had a choice between two since they're across the street from each other and the Whole hog won the coin toss (I'm going to frame that coin). Had the jumbo pulled pork (as always) sandwich which was wonderful. A whole big heaping of beautiful moist pork with a smokey flavor topped off with a great bark.
