Love this place. Was passing through Chicago for the night, read the reviews and booked a room online 1 day before (probably only because it was a weekday in the off season). Couldn't have been happier. Very cool vibe. Free street parking. Friendly, down to earth staff who are brimming with suggestions of what to do, see and eat, near and far. Pleasant communal dining room with some free light breakfast food and snacks, a fridge and full complement of dishes for guests' use. I missed the full-on breakfast but it looked quite good, too, with fresh fruit and quality pastries. Stayed in the Cape Cod room and loved it--stylish furniture and original artwork curated by someone with a cool aesthetic was a very notable difference between this hotel and your average chain-hotel. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend this place to friends. read more

Never have I dealt with a more incompetent and rude business owner as the owner of the Wicker Park inn. I called hotel to reschedule date of stay due to a business meeting change and was given approval with new confirmation number and email with change of checkin date. Owner calls AFTER original night of stay and claims her employee made a mistake and would not honor new reservation. She said it was policy even though her staff rescheduled. She took no responsibility for her teams actions. In fact, the owner refused to reimburse me or offer a credit for the night. Good luck with any discrepancies on a bill at the Wicker Park In.. With so many fantastic hotels in Chicago, I would highly suggest finding other accommodations. read more

I am not accustomed to writing reviews like this; most of those I have read suggested to me that Yelp and similar services attract the outlier opinions --the lovers and the haters-- and are seldom useful. In this case, I decided to offer some observations because this place has such conspicuous, stark advantages and disadvantages. The Wicker Park area is great for restaurants, bars, bookstores, open air festivals, and so on. The residents are diverse but appear to lean toward the young, up-and-coming side. The bed and breakfast is a pretty old two-story red brick building, and the owners have renovated the inside to be handsome, clean, and unobtrusive. For Chicago the rates are reasonable, and the management is friendly on balance. Then there are the less desirable features. My wife and I exited at the L stop specified in the advertisement with the assurance that the bed and breakfast would be nearby. We discovered that North Wicker Park Avenue is split into two segments and we got lost finding the bed and breakfast, slogging our luggage. The thing is, I had called the property manager from O'Hare and asked which L stop to take and for directions and received no indication that the street was weird. (Proof of its weirdness were two cab drivers later in the week who got lost trying to find the street after having bragged that they were Chicago veterans). When we arrived at the bed and breakfast and suggested directions might have been helpful we were reminded that the website explained the location and provided a map in a tone a teacher might take with students who had not done their homework. In addition, the owners have purchased the adjoining home and are renovating it to expand the bed and breakfast. For the duration of our stay we had to talk over hammers, circular saws, and other things that bump loudly in the night. Compounding the construction site noise was the L trains rushing overhead regularly, a feature the advertisement conspicuously omitted. We had a great week back in Chicago and enjoyed the location of the Wicker Park Inn; on the whole we enjoyed staying there and liked the management. We could have done with better directions, fewer patronizing/defensive explanations, and less noise. read more

Absolutely wonderful. We stayed in two apartments...the Bucktown and the Garden, which are in different levels of the same building. The apartments were beautiful and super comfortable, and the service was perfect. Fresh towels every day, maid service, they ran over new paper products whenever we requested it...the staff really went above and beyond to make it a great stay for us. The location was also awesome...we were in town for a college graduation and being near our grad in Wicker Park but still close to the loop was ideal. Highly recommend this setup over a hotel for large groups...the garden apartment is perfect for teenagers or young adults and the main living area of the Bucktown was a great central place for us all to hang out. Best of all, it was affordable! read more

The Tuscan room was pleasant and clean. We stayed in April & it was cold in the room at night-no heating options other than the blankets provided. The breakfast was not ready as promised. No staff there at 7 for coffee & cold items. Hot food was promised for 8 but they were just putting in their breakfast quiche at that point...no decaf. Not sure why they could't just have a Kurig type coffee maker with some decaf pods. Location great & parking permit a big plus! read more

Love it here! I wish my bed and bathroom at home were this cute. Perfect location for hipsters like us. It was so easy to walk to all the bars and shops we wanted to check out. It is located on a residential one block street between Milwaukee and Division. The staff were all friendly and helpful. They even allowed us to leave our beer purchases at the Inn after we checked out so they wouldn't freeze in the car while we continued to explore for the day. We had a fireplace in our room so we stayed in one night to cozy up and drink/relax. We will use this location any time we visit. Much more fun than staying downtown. My one and only slight issue would be that it is not very soundproof, so don't plan on getting too excited with your significant other. We live together, so weren't too heartbroken about it. Great location and free street parking. We stayed for one night in the Cape Cod room. The bathroom is small but room had plenty of space to throw suitcases on floor and spread out. The staff seemed friendly but we missed breakfast after long night/morning of drinking. I would stay here again as price is right around economy rates at other places in the city. The ability to walk or catch a cab without moving our car was priceless. read more

I stayed in the Garden Apartment in Aug '13 for my birthday & it was amazing. Perfect location and staff was beyond nice & helpful. The apartment was very clean and comfortable. Check in was quick. The street the B&B is on is beautiful & quiet & a very short walk to all the action on Damen & Milwaukee. I visit Chicago often & will only stay here on my future visits. read more

We've stayed at the Wicker Park Inn twice, and loved it both times. The location can't be beat - in the heart of a great neighborhood, close to Downtown, and easily accessible by and to public transportation. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the room was clean and comfortable. We felt very much at home on both trips. Plus the breakfast options were yummy! I was pregnant on both trips, and appreciated the fact that they also had snacks available at all times. We can't wait to go back. read more

What a lovely bed and breakfast in the Wicker Park neighborhood. The rooms are very clean and tastefully decorated. The owners are friendly and greet you warmly. There is a nice common area with a stocked kitchen for a late night snack. If you are driving a car there is permitted street parking. Location location locations! If your looking to stay in the heart of wicker park this is the spot to stay! So many great places in walking distance. I loved every minute of my stay. Our rooms was super cute and clean. I loved the decor, felt like I was in an anthropologie magazine. The Inn has 9 rooms and offers breakfast with your stay. The owner is on site and is willing to answer any questions you have about the neighborhood. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. I would totally recommend this! I had a great time exploring the Wicker Park/Bucktown neighborhood of Chicago and stayed two nights at the Wicker Park Inn during my week long trip. Reservations book up quickly (this is characteristic of most places in Chicago be it a restaurant, hotel, concert, etc) so definitely book as far in advance as possible. I stayed in the 3-bedroom apartment which is across the street from the main B&B. It was only me and my infant daughter, plus it was their only room available for the two-night minimum during the week I was there, but they understood this and offered me a reduced rate, which I happily took! Laura and Robin were very hospitable and a pleasure to do business with. Upon checking in I was shown the apartment's rooms and features as well as a big binder with all sorts of menus, brochures, and information from local businesses -- ranging from eateries & bars to shops, museums, galleries, and salons. There's an independent grocery store a few blocks away as well as a Walgreens & 7-11 right around the corner for any food, drink, or convenience items you may need. The kitchen and bathroom were clean and all the appliances, plumbing etc was in great working order. Plenty of pots, pans, dishes, etc for cooking meals. It was really nice to "live like a local" in a fun & hip neighborhood. The blue line Damen station is just a few blocks up the street and takes you downtown in 15 minutes. It runs right behind the main building, so being across the street reduced the noise level significantly and for this reason I'd recommend the Bucktown Apartment if you are a light sleeper but want to stay in this area. Overall this place was a fantastic choice - can't beat the price either! I got a 3-bedroom apartment to myself for less than what the downtown hotels wanted for a crappy "economy" room. Very pleasant stay and I'm looking forward to returning soon. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Wicker Room at Wicker Park Inn this past weekend. The neighborhood is trendy, and there are plenty of fantastic shops, restaurants, and bars within walking distance. The stay includes convenient street / permit parking, less than a mile walk to public transportation, and a continental breakfast with a community fridge. It's a very homey atmosphere, and the breakfast consisted of things such as bagels, fruit, pastries, breakfast pizza, oatmeal, etc. It was nice having filtered water in the fridge for when you're dehydrated in the middle of the night. With just location, food, and parking, the inn was well worth our stay and we loved it. The customer service was also fantastic. For example the hostess made a point to recalculate our bill when she thought something didn't look right, and ensured our discount was properly applied. The self check-in allows for people to check in and out at any time without a fee, which was incredibly convenient as we came in rather late. The room itself was clean, comfortable, and clean. I thought it was neat that they even had makeup wipes in the bathroom, to avoid staining towels no doubt. My boyfriend travels a lot and often complains about the internet connection, but he made a point of complimenting theirs as we were able to easily stream movies. I did a bit of hunting through reviews when looking for somewhere to stay and worried a bit about comments other people made concerning how loud the blue line would be, however in our particular room it didn't bother us. For sensitive sleepers there were ear plugs on the dresser. If I'm ever staying in Chicago again, I would absolutely stay here again. read more

Stayed in the Cape Cod room for a mid week visit with family near by. The staff was very welcoming. The place was clean and well maintained and in a great location. The breakfast in the morning was FABULOUS, The only down side was the noise from the nearby trains., although not as bad as I had expected. It really only sounded like heavy winds and was not disruptive while trying to sleep, surprisingly. Would definitely return our next visit to Chicago! read more

Great location- 10 min walk to subway station which is a 10 min ride to downtown, very nice breakfast with additional tea and snacks available at all times for those late-night cravings. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms were beautiful and cozy. I stayed in the Cape Cod room, which is away from the train tracks and it was very quiet and private (there is almost no traffic on that street). The Chicago room is close to the tracks but it did not bother me that much- the Chicago room is very spacious and feels more like an apartment and it has a little balcony as well as an actual bathtub. Overall, it was a great experience. I would recommend this place to all of my friends and will definitely try to stay here again on my next visit to Chicago. Thank you so much!!! read more

Noisy -- Next To Chicago Elevated Subway This property backs to a raised Chicago Subway line and is very noisy. Suggest you google map the address and see for yourself before booking. My wife and daughter left after one sleepless night when the trains came by every 15-20 minutes. My wife arrived late at night (10:30pm) and my daughter about 45 minutes later. The trains ran all night. The owner obviously has many guests try to check out early and has a very strict cancellation policy which states you will forfeit your remaining paid nights if they cannot re-rent the room. In our case, it cost us one night's room rent due to an unacceptable level of noise from the elevated subway. Here is a quote from their cancellation policy "Room charges are not refundable after payment at check-in (no refunds for early check-outs)" The Wicker Park Inn website only mentions the fact of the location in the description of their Chicago Room ".. private outdoor balcony with a quintessential view of the city's El train. For this reason, the Chicago room is not recommended for the light sleeper. The room is equipped with a sound machine and ear plugs to ensure a restful stay." This is also listed in the Blue Line apartment description. These rooms are at the back of the building as shown in the attached picture. Only small alley between the tracks and the Wicker Inn. If the owner offers ear plugs and sound machine in two rooms you would think they would be more upfront on the potential noise to guests in their descriptions. If you don't check out the description on every room, you may be surprised when you arrive. We certainly were. read more

I spent two beautiful days at the Wicker Park inn last week. The "Wicker Park Room" is on the first floor, large, nicely decorated and comfortable. The neighborhood street is quiet and tree-lined and in October, yellow and orange leaves are drifting to the sidewalks. The location is great, and the neighborhood boasts many excellent opportunities for finding good food. Guests at the inn can work out at nearby Wicker Park Fitness. As noted in other reviews, the walls are very thin and both nights I could hear the "Law and Order" theme and dialogue. I heard the el, but was not bothered by it, and slept very well. I'd love to stay here again. read more

The Bucktown apartment is perfect from a weekend getaway. Three of us Baltimore babes came to Chicago for a weekend trip and had a delightful time. The apartment was fully stocked with extra towels, blankets, cookware, even wine glasses! The inn staff and housekeepers were very friendly and welcoming. Super cozy with firm, comfortable beds. The inn is located in the heart of Wicker Park so it is close to the Damen blue line stop and every kind of food available. The innkeeper was obnoxiously pretty but that was our only complaint. read more

I come to Chicago frequently and am so happy to have found the Wicker Park Inn and the great people who staff it. My room is perfect for an extended stay: comfortable bed, kitchenette and plenty of room to spread out. The staff is incredibly helpful and the location is great (a short walk to the Damon L stop and plenty of restaurants along the way!). What a ripoff. The bed itself was fine, but the other furniture was mismatched, cheap and uncomfortable. The "breakfast" wasn't a breakfast but a pastiche of Walmart or Costco-style stuff of poor quality (not an actual breakfast, no hot food, nothing cooked); more of an american-style "continental breakfast" There was no concierge / or efforts at hospitality, even when we asked questions they had no answers! One of the owners SPIED on the guests! never introducing herself (not one gracious word), It was right next to very loud train tracks so there were very loud trains. This is not really an inn ORmony- a bed and breakfast -- it's a money-making investment for the owners, who show no aptitude for hospitality and should be some other line of work. it was VERY HIGH PRICED for what it was. I courteously mentioned we would have a guest for 2 nights and they slapped on a surcharge. They are mercenaries, not hosts. Would never stay there again. read more

disappointing 3 nights in the room off the entry. Noisy, no sound barrier between walls or ceiling. We heard everyone come in and out, go up the very creaky steps and then heard every step they took in the room upstairs as well as the snoring and conversation. It was clean and the hosts were very willing to help. However, there is little attention to detail and the breakfast consisted of Costco type food. There are such nice bakeries nearby I had hoped for more. Not a place to return to, and not a good value for the price. read more

Lovely location and staff makes you feel right at home. The neighborhood is fantastic, too. Great food, fun bars and nightlife and even a few dive bars if you enjoy them (we did!). If you are a light sleeper the train does run, but I didn't notice, but yes you should be aware of this before you book (and they do mention it on their website). But a stay at Wicker Park Inn will make you think you're a local with a great pied a terre to return to each evening. We stayed in the Cape Cod room, which overlooks the street. The street was sooo quiet. And there are light snacks all day, which was a nice touch. Would definitely return! read more

My husband and I stayed in the Chicago room last week-end while visiting our family a mile away. The room was spacious and clean. The staff was helpful. We were warned that the train tracks were in the back and the train came often. The alarm clock was equipped with a soft sound machine which lulled me to sleep. It was difficult finding a parking spot due to it's close proximity to a busy bar district and lots of snow. I will return if the need arises. read more

We were not able to get the same room we had last time (Blue Line room), so reserved a bigger room for a bit more money. It was wonderful, spotless, cozy, all good! The location of the Wicker Park Inn is fantastic. The walls are thin and the floors creek. If you have the room on the first floor forget about having a good night's sleep. Impossible. Tried to get coffee two mornings and there just wasn't any, trudged down to the 7-11 instead. Third day didn't even bother. Never tried the breakfast since there wasn't any coffee. Very clean and well appointed. I would stay here again because of the convenience of the location. read more

This was a very quite, serviceable. B&B perfect for a business traveler or visitor that knows Chicago well. It is in a residential area that has close access to public transportation, many local eateries and artist targeted businesses. It is located in the newest "hip" area of Chicago.if you don"t care to walk to public transportation then the prepared to take a taxi to your destination. If you are new to Chicago and want to explore the downtown you would be better staying near attractions you plan to view. The Inn itself is very clean and hospitable.The room we stayed in was clean and comfortable. I would ask for any extras like more towels ,pillows etc. at check in or before arriving as there is some delay via phone especially on a weekend stay. They do respond but the manager did admit that on weekends all messages go to voicemail first.The manager was very friendly and helpful to first time visitors like us. The common kitchen was well stocked with standard essentials. A satisfying simple breakfast is available . A common refrigerator can be used for special private items. Depending on the habits of the other people staying there my require noise tolerance . We had early risers when we were there who were part of a family event . The conversations in the common area/next door room were very audible in our room . Conversely, you would be smart to remember this while you are in your room when you are having conversations or doing activities that you want privacy to be maintained. All in all we enjoyed staying here and felt as if we were staying at a home of a friend/relative of a mutual friend. read more

I stayed in the Blue Line room...which is aptly named. LITERALLY 20 feet from the Blue Line train. While a clean and sweet little efficiency apt (with filtered water in the fridge) and close to numerous great restaurants in a safe residential neighborhood, there were three issues that were all deal breakers: (1) the Blue Line! I timed trains coming every 3 minutes well into the evening. I had a business Skype meeting that was interrupted, well, every 3 minutes. Intolerable really. EXTREMELY loud to the point where I couldn't be heard on the call; (2) air handling unit in the room is enormous, loud, and not able to be controlled internally -- I FROZE in the middle of July. It takes up an entire closet and sounds like a jet engine. I had slippers, scarf, fleece and was wrapped in a blanket on a business trip trying to get work done. Directions in the room say that the temps are set to accommodate the comfort of all guests, which didn't include me. (3) NO breakfast. It was an extra $10 for the continental breakfast because of the kitchenette I suppose -- so really just a B with no B. read more
