Normally I wouldn't leave a review for any fast food place, but this is also the birthplace of Wienerschnitzel so I guess why not. You wouldn't guess it was, though, other than the plaque. It's totally unassuming and not in an A-frame building, surprisingly. I was only in this area because I was visiting the Port of LA. I tried the Italian chili cheese fries ($4.19) and the chili cheese fries burrito ($2.59). Both were just meh. The Italian chili cheese fries had basil pesto aioli (which I didn't really taste) with diced tomatoes and onions (seemed more Tex-Mex than Italian to me, but whatever). The burrito was literally just fries and chili cheese, which isn't bad, just weird to have a burrito of. They have a small parking lot and a drive-thru, which is nice. read more

After receiving so many ads in the mail I finally gave in and tried Wienerschnitzel. My boyfriend and I got the combo meal which comes with 2 chili dogs, corn dogs, and chili cheese fries for 8$ with coupon. Wasn't the best but also not the worst. Good value for your buck. read more

If i could give this place 0 stars i would. I dont know how many bad experiences i need to have from here to stop coming. Beware when ordering combos. They always ask if you want medium or large fries and drinks without letting you know that the regular size of small is also an option. They upcharge you without you knowing. This is just shady. And speaking of combos, the new menu is awful. If you make any item into a combo, you save a whole .40 something cents. Wrappers are consistently inside your hot dog. All the condiments end up all over the wrapper. Fries are always soggy. At least the chili quality has increased from the last review i wrote. I used to pay around $30 for food for my family (with extras). Now its damn near $50 without any side items. $50 for hotdogs. Ridiculous. read more

My buddy went to get us lunch and I asked for a double chili burger & fries. Looked nothing like the picture on the website. It was one of the worst burger & fry combo's I've ever had. Total waste of money and I threw most of it away. You would think that since this is the original iconic Winerschnitzel it would have awesome food. My last Winerschnitzel experience was over 15 years ago in Huntington Beach and that was a bad experience as well. I'm assuming one must stick to the hot dog menu (I don't eat mystery meat) and not venture into the other offerings they offer. I will give them 2 stars for their chili! read more

This is the original Wienerschnitzel, founded in 1961. What can I say? It's a Wienerschnitzel. It's got hotdogs that are mass processed, enough chili to choke a Texan picnic, and perhaps enough transfats to make a self-righteous nutriNazi weep in frustration. But it's THE FIRST WIENERSCHNITZEL, DAMNIT! The first one! That's gotta count for something, right? You can blame every pseudo-Germanic hotdog cottage on this one, its granddaddy. So think about that, the next time you see a neo-Alpine hut o' pork products gleaming its unnatural orange sheen at you down the street. Wilmington doesn't have a lot; it has the Harbor, the Banning Mansion, and the first Wienerschnitzel. That itself makes it worth a look. Also, my uncle was robbed at gunpoint while working here in 1973. So that's pretty freaking awesome too, right? I know, I know. Just get a damn corndog, ignore the health brouhaha for eleven seconds, and take a bite of history. Just work out and hydrate afterwards. :) read more

This place is great. This is the first Wienerschnitzel in the entire USA. I love coming here and ordering chili dogs. Most people get the food to go because they only have patio tables where there's people and cars going bye. But if you don't mind this distraction you should eat outside. Over all this place will satisfy you. Please check it out. read more

You can never go wrong with wienerschnitzel! I came here & service was quick fast & easy. I just had to review this place because the cashier I had was really nice & welcoming. It wasn't much, but after just having rude & horrible service at the Toms #1 on Anaheim, the fact that the cashier was nice & provided me excellent customer service really made me feel good. I was starting to think people in this city were rude. I wish I had gotten her name I would put it in here as well as tell her manager what a great employee they have. Next time I go I will do that. It is the little things that make a difference & the fact that she was smiling and friendly made my experience here great. Btw....the food was delicious & fattening as always! Lol Love it! AHH! I love love love this place. I've been coming here since I was born! Yes, it is the first, it has a plaque and everything. Anyway, get the chili dog with cheese, so goood. Every time I come home I can't wait to sink my teeth into one of their hot dogs. To get cheaper prices, get those coupons that come in the paper. WORTH IT. read more

Just moved to the area. I'll just say I'm not a huge fan of fast food. Stopped here one day and everything was hot and right out of the grease. The only way to have it. Customer service was great, sine then have been multiple times. They are consistent with their great Service! read more

My guilty pleasure. Ever since I was young I would stop in for fries and a tasty freeze ice cream or a chocolate malt. This is the Original #1 spot. You can relax in the outdoor eating area while watching the cars and people drive by along pacific coast highway. I do wish at time they had a small inclosed area to eat during rain season.
