I went with 4 friends and they completely messed up our orders. I asked for brown rice in my sushi rolls and my friend asked for white, and they made my friend's sushi with brown rice instead. Not great service so we didn't give them a hefty tip, they stopped us on our way out and told us to tip more. We tipped 10% because that was what they deserved and they told us we had to tip 15% and wouldn't let us leave until we gave in a few more dollars. Pretty ridiculous to me. I brought my appetite and a couple of good friends to help me take in the flavors and ambience. We started briefly at the bar, where we took in the décor and a Japanese beer. There was ample availability at the bar so getting a drink and seat was no problem... I took a minute to peruse the Happy Hour Menu and boy was @Lauren right! - Beer and Wine was 3 bucks and they offered over 10 kinds of rolls at the bargain price of 3 rolls for 7 dollars!!! (I know where I will be spending some of my summer Fridays!) The restaurant décor was "pretty and trendy" nice mood lighting, comfortable seating, a bar, a sushi bar, and an open kitchen - yes, we are watching you! The evening was nice enough so we requested a table outside, that's right ladies and gents, al fresco dining is available - although they only have 3 tables. We sat there pining over the MANY choices of not just sushi but also Chinese and Vietnamese dishes available. After 5 minutes or so the decision was made but the server was nowhere to be found. Eventually, (after about another 5 minutes, let's face it, I certainly have little to no patience) I walked back inside and kindly (snidely) asked if anyone was going to come outside to take our order. My friend and I ordered: (luckily he was a he and was able to do most of the "heavy lifting" because otherwise this is probably a lot of food for two chicks) (The * rating is 1 to 3 stars based on how much I enjoyed it) **Passion Roll - Spicy salmon, seaweed salad, and avocado rolled and topped with thinly sliced tuna on the outside and cut into a heart shape for your viewing pleasure ***Naruto Roll - salmon, tuna, yellow tail and avocado topped with caviar rolled in a cucumber (no rice = no carbs) ***Tiger Roll - shrimp tempura, spicy salmon and avocado wrapped in white seaweed *Shrimp Tempura Roll - shrimp tempura, avocado, wrapped traditionally and topped with eel sauce **Salmon Sushi *Tuna Sashimi Everything tasted fresh and light... nothing on the plate was too drowned out by too much rice or too much sauce... I enjoyed every roll on the plate, but have to say that the Naruto roll is going to be my go-to-roll. The Naruto was light, crisp, and flavorful and with no rice - definitely makes for a guilt-free pleasure! The tuna sashimi was nothing to write home about. I wish that they would have offered Toro but I settled for Akami and was slightly disappointed. We sipped on Sapporo and Sapporo Light ($5) and I chose a bottle of cold sake, Kaguyahime (Junmai) ($18) which was sweet to the nose but not to the mouth in a way that made my taste buds very happy. It was moderately strong (I started giggled after a couple of shots) but very smooth, overall, I'd definitely order it again. Skip dessert... we had the "chocolate mousse pyramid" whose description sold the group but upon the taste test was more of a frozen solid chocolate mass and nothing that a creamy chocolate delicate mousse should be. Disappointing and expensive. Twenty dollar entrees don't scare me away but - for the price - the food, experience, and service should be more than decent. I ordered a tuna and soba noodle dish. It wasn't great. I asked what it was like - because the menu is a bit schizophrenic - hard to tell what is what and what flavor it will be because of all the varied countries that their menu encompasses. What I got was a pile of noodles with a ring of tuna surrounding it and a mountain of seaweed salad on top. The seaweed, pineapple, and two secret sauces made the concoction a bit ridiculous. In my opinion if a restaurant is confident in their menu they don't feel the need to hide the ingredients with fillers, garnishes, and sauces. The service wasn't great. First and foremost, I highly recommend the Mind Eraser roll. It was the highlight of the meal for me as it was spicy yet refreshing. I came here on a Friday night and service was pleasant and quick, even though the restaurant was somewhat full. My girlfriend and I had dumplings as an appetizer and then shared the pad thai and Asian Grilled Chicken with bok choi. I thought that the pad thai was on par with most other offers, nothing spectacular but still very good. The chicken was excellent, and although I'm not a huge fan of bok choi, i thought everything worked well together. The restaurant itself is very nice and a good option for a date. The prices are very reasonable, especially when taking the quality of the food into account. It has cockroaches. The water glasses aren't washed, because my friend and I came across two glasses with lip marks on them, as well as dirty tea and sake glasses. If you sit in the seats closest to the kitchen, you can see how scary the condition of the tea and sake set up are. The food doesn't go out fast enough or at the same time, and it tastes like crap. I tried going during the week myself by there is no real bar tender and unless you sit at the bar the drinks are mixed like crap (especially any of the house martinis). I've been coming here for years and used to come more regularly. The quality has gone down and I would NOT recommend eating any raw sushi here. I would actually only recommend eating the cooked food if you must eat here. I feel like the reviews are all over the place here. And I think I know why. The people I eat here with seem to love it but I don't. I wouldn't return after my most recent meal. The people I ate with didn't seem to have any complaints. It really depends on your standards and your exposure to good, high quality asian food. And what your order. Also what you're after. Visited this place last Friday with my aunt and we were thoroughly disappointed. At one point we would drive over 30mins to get to this place to get some quality Asian food. Not anymore! We ordered our regulars "General Tso's" and "Sesame chicken" and were disappointed to find that our meal was almost 90% batter and 10% chicken. Items ranged from mediocre to good: - The thai spring rolls were standard, but the dipping sauce was a little too mild for my tastes. - Hot & sour soup was nice, but lacking in the hot department (here I start to wonder if this place is afraid of spicy). - Pan-friend veggie dumplings were good, but far from the best I've had. - The chicken lettuce wraps were of the better items. The chicken mix had a nice flavor as did the accompanying sauce. - The chicken chow fun was sad. The noodles were too congealed, and mostly there was just NO flavor to be found in this dish. A big disappointment for something I don't consider to be a difficult dish to master. I'd probably give them another try and head more into the fusion parts of the menu, since that seems to be where Wild Ginger's strengths lie. This was a pretty solid place to get Asian fusion. I went here after my friend's poetry reading, and we were surprised to find that on a Saturday afternoon, the place was DEAD. Crazy! So we went and sat down and ordered drinks and food. The drinks came out haphazardly (with about ten minute intervals in between them) which made no sense since we were perhaps the only customers in the place. We didn't mind terribly though since the drinks were REALLY strong. Honestly, I don't quite remember much after the drink I had since it was quite strong. I got my go to for any Asian restaurant (Japanese eggplant in garlic sauce) and was delighted at the mixture of sweet and umami flavors. A little pricey, but a nice spot, and serves a lot of crowd pleasers! We came here a week or so ago and it was our second time eating at Wild Ginger. The service was a little on the slow side - it looked like they only had two or three waiters covering the entire restaurant, which I thought was odd for a Saturday evening. Still, everything we ordered was delicious! We had the chicken lettuce wraps (sooo goood), and I ordered a specialty roll while hubs got this pan seared tenderloin dish. Everything was very good! And it was kind of nice that we could take our time finishing our drinks without being rushed out the door. Afterwards we decided to sit up at the bar in the front so that I could continue drinking sparkling Saki, (when in Rome...). I'm not sure if she was their regular bartender, but the girl behind the bar was great. Very friendly and chatty, but not in an invasive way. She also kept throwing free drinks at us (try this plum wine, try these strawberry shortcake shots). Heck, sure, why not! It got to the point where I could only take a sip of each, but it was very nice of her! I'm not sure how Wild Ginger compares to the other Japanese restaurants in Bxville, but overall I like the spot. And it's nice to find a pan Asian restaurant where you can have a Thai or Chinese dish if your dining partner is not a sushi fan. read more

Never had wild ginger and won't ever have it again. Ordered General Tso combo. Chicken was mushy. Ordered the three roll dinner, shrimp tempura was very small. The tuna roll was mushy as if it's blended and shrimp avocado was not good either. I eat avocado all the time and could tell they used a very ripe avocado cause it was mushy as well! Me and my husband stopped by Wild Ginger last weekend. We had a lettuce wrap for our appitizer since we're big fans of it in P.F.Changs , I had the ginger chicken and he had the sesame chicken. Lettuce wrap was good, not better than PF but good. You can tell P.F. Chang's version had the "secret sauce" but wild Ginger's version was good as well. Lettuce was fresh and crisp. Ginger chicken stated that it would be spicy but it wasn't, it was very soft and served with baby bok choy. It had an overwhelming taste of lemongrass which is the reason I took a star off. I expected brown spicy sauce like regular Chienese cuisine, this one was much lighter. The highlight was my husbands meal which I continued to pick at and couldn't believe. It was the best sesame chicken I've ate in my life! I'm going back just to get my own plate of sesame chicken! It was sweet but not overly sweet. It was crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. Love this place. Food is always outstanding. Cocktails are good too. Lettuce wraps are a must. Ribs are good. Szechuan dumplings have the most delectable sauce. Tend to prefer their Chinese over their sushi but it's definitely good enough. I particularly like the spicy scallop and avocado roll and sushi parfait. You really can't go wrong with any of their entrees. They have General Tso's with white meat chicken. They offer different sauces with your choice of protein; black bean sauce is great. It's like our home away from home. Can't judge a place by delivery. You have to eat at a restaurant to judge it fairly. Not every dish can maintain its taste during the delivery process.
