I visited Wild Ginger's Downtown location with my family for my 25th birthday. The restaurant was so beautiful and very fancy, I just loved it! We were seated upon arrival and greeted promptly by our server. We ordered several dishes, all of them to share for the whole table. Every single dish was even better than the one before! Each plate was packed with different flavors and spices that just went together perfectly. My favorite dish without a doubt was the Fragrant Duck spiced with Sichuan Peppercorn and 5 Spice. Served with Steamed Buns, Sichuan Peppercorn Salt and Sweet Plum Sauce. A must try house speciality that will make your mouth water. Overall my experience at Wild Ginger was fantastic and both the food and the service was impeccable! The only reason I am giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is because it was so expensive that I would have never been able to afford the meal on my own... and for that I thank you, mom and dad! read more

This is a very large restaurant and you should call and make a reservation. They do quite well with lots of visitors. Very pleasant staff at the front desk. The food is not the best. I find it very bland, their wine list is extensive from Domestic and Imports. It's a great place with a large group to for lunch or any company functions. They have valet. The server never waited on property and was rude when we asked questions. At what point I had to get up from our table to request chili and more drinks. Eager, if not over eager, servers, creative food, nicely prepared, properly described, and brought when hot and fresh. I frequently read reviews to help me when out of town, and some of the negatives on this one seem weirdly phony. "No serious diners eat before 8PM?" I've eaten at Wild Ginger several times over the years, the foods consistently good. With a party of six, I ate there recently. The waiter was fantastic, he even asked us if we were under any time constraints to make an event downtown, the food was great but there were a couple of comments at the table that their dishes might be a touch too spicy, really good but spicy. We walked in about 9pm on a Wednesday evening in August and were greeted by a friendly hostess who offered us immediate seating at the bar/lounge, or we could wait for a table. We chose to wait for a table, and she ended up seating us within 5 minutes. Mom & I both had the iced Chai Tea, and it was tasty and refreshing. I had the Green Chicken Curry (without rice), and it had a very nice and creamy lime and coconut flavor with a hint of heat. Mom had the Siam Lettuce Cups, which tasted crisp and fresh (be sure to squeeze the lemon on top), and was a great bite that seemed to cleanse my palate between eating bites of the curry. She also had the Peasant's Chicken Satay, which had tasty spices and was grilled perfectly, served with peanut sauce that had a nice blend of peanut and cumin flavoring. I would definitely return and try more of their menu, such as the mango sticky rice, lobster & prawn dumpling soup, seven flavor beef, princess prawns...ok, I just want to try everything else on the menu! read more

Though I'm giving a 3-star, this is more of a 3.5 star That being said, this is my second visit - and I still have mixed feelings, mostly towards the style & taste of dishes Wild Ginger offers. I'd always thought that this was just a really fancy Panda Express. To be fair, I do enjoy fusion food and I'm always excited to find unique combinations that become a staple in my diet. During my most recent visit, our group ordered the lettuce cups, papaya salad, Szechuan green beans, seared scallops, and duck. I enjoyed the scallops and duck, but not so much the papaya salad or lettuce cups. The Szechuan green beans were by far the tastiest. We had a reservation booked ahead, so we were seated really quickly. Our server was friendly and often came around to make sure our waters were filled, though he seems a bit scatterbrained. Otherwise, service was attentive and we had a nice meal - though I can't seem to justify the high price. I would likely come back during company lunch outings, but not on my personal schedule. read more

Food was definitely tasty and servings are HUGE! I think it might be meant to be served family style? But we each ordered our own dishes. We were a group of about 8 and they set us up in a beautiful section of the restaurant surrounded by big windows. The food was delicious, and service was friendly, but there were two hiccups. I'll start with the smaller one - These things happen. The lady's room was filthy - there was water pooled up all over the ground and paper all over the floor and counter. I advised our server before I headed back to my table. I assume they took action, but I didn't go back to the washroom so I can't confirm. Now, for the bigger issue. Apparently this restaurant is not in a great area. It was close enough to our hotel so we walked. As we approached the restaurant, we realized that we may have made a mistake and actually had to walk in the street for a portion of it, to avoid the people doing hard drugs on the sidewalk. That has nothing to do with the restaurant itself - I should have researched the area before deciding to walk. Here's where the restaurant comes in. While enjoying our meal, there was a man out the window carrying about his business, doing drugs. One of the restaurant employees (I'm not sure what his position is, but he poured the wine at our table) decided to go up to the window and slam on it (I can't remember if he banged on it with his fits or if he kicked it with his foot). He banged on it quite loudly and told the man outside to move. Well it had the opposite affect and made the man outside quite angry. He banged back on the window and was screaming something back at the employee. He then continued with his business but turned towards the window and did it blatantly. A little while later, the employee came around to the tables in the vacinity and apologized for his actions. I want to be clear - I'm not complaining that there were people doing drugs out the window... that is not the restaurant's responsibility and is obviously part of a bigger problem. My complaint is regarding the employee who chose to antagonize the man from the safety of the other side of the window. Which did nothing but disrupt the diners and cause the other man to retaliate. read more

The main dining room is a really nice space, as is the bar area. We had a nice view of the city from the Union Street side of the building. Avoid the 3rd Avenue side if you can - nothing to see there but traffic and panhandlers. We had the chicken chieu salad, Sichuan green beans, and the seafood Thai noodles - plenty of food for 2 people. The green beans were fresh and really good, while the chicken chieu salad was large but light on chicken and dressing. The seafood Thai noodles, however, was very disappointing. The noodles were an overcooked clump of pasta that fell to pieces, and there was very little seafood. Overall, the service was good, the food was somewhat ordinary, and the atmosphere was nice. Side note, we both felt ill the next day. I don't like to suggest that the restaurant is to blame because we really can't say for sure, but put it out there in case others had a similar problem on May 22. read more

Wild Ginger is okay, I think it's incredibly expensive for what you're getting. Service was rather slow, it took the waiter awhile to come by and ask for our orders. I ordered sparkling water to start and he came back with it another 10-15 minutes later, much longer than I'm used to at other restaurants. We ordered a handful of dishes, including the seafood noodles, 7-flavor beef, fragrant duck, a couple different satay's, mongolian noodles, passion tofu, green beans and bok choy. The portions aren't incredibly impressive and the food is just okay. The green beans and bok choy taste like something I could either have at home, or get in a traditional Chinese restaurant for half the price, or with twice the amount of food. The food is decent, don't get me wrong, but there's no way those noodles should $15/18. This seems like a place you'd come to if you've never had actual/good Asian food, otherwise I can't imagine why you'd feel the need to eat here. read more

Come for the food and service. But leave for the front row seats to bum fights. I thankfully sat facing away from the window, but my cousin and aunt had a full view of starving people eyeing them and a fight breaking out with a pair of pliers as the weapon of choice. Request to eat upstairs and don't walk down 3rd to get there, just to 3rd. Spiced beef and spiced soup was great. So were the the green beans. We didn't get to try the bok choy because it never came out. Service was very slow but the staff was very friendly. If you can't handle the guilt of staring in the eyes of the homeless while you eat $20 soup, probably go to one of their other locations. read more

I don't know why this place is not 5 stars, I was honestly shocked to see that when I came on the app. The food and service were so good. I was also surprised to find out this is a chain (I'm from out of town). The wait was long but we sat right away in the bar area seating. We ordered the lettuce cups (unreal), spring rolls (best I've ever had) for apps...would highly recommend both. I ordered the sayur lodeh and it was the best curry I have ever had (minus the tofu because I'm not a huge fan). The flavor was unlike any curry Ive ever had... almost had an earthy taste to it. So many different flavors in one bites. So many other entrees looked delicious especially the duck and seven flavor beef. Our waiter, Nam, was super friendly and on his game the whole time. He gave us great recommendations of what to order and was knowledgeable about the beer list. The other wait staff were very nice and gave great service as well. Would definitely come back here again. We had to attend a dinner party with some friends. Our friends were smart enough to book one of Wild Gingers private rooms which was a great idea. The wait staff deserves a lot of credit for being extremely attentive which can be tough when you have 12 people drinking who are calling out a new cocktail order every time you walk in the room. The space was great, circular table which you just had to spin for your food. Some of the winners of the night included the duck which was delicious, the chow fun and the sea bass. Our foood came out really fast. We all skipped dessert opting to have a dessert cocktail instead, which certainly hit the spot. We certainly return especially for a group event. read more

Last night a large group of friends and I had dinner at Wild Ginger before an evening performance. I booked the reservation of our group of 12 for two hours before our showtime to ensure enough time to enjoy our meal. After being seated, I informed our server of our showtime and he assured us we would have plenty of time to eat before our show. Unfortunately, our experience went downhill from there. After taking our drink orders, our server returned to take our food orders, suggesting that we order everything at once so the kitchen could begin work on our food as the restaurant was very busy. We ordered many starters for the table and everyone chose an entree for themselves. Our drinks arrived quite a bit later, but one was missing. It was now 1/2 hour since we had been seated. Our server then returned and was alerted to this fact. Again our server returned to alert my friend that her first choice of entree was no longer available and what would she like instead; the server had not brought a menu for her to review, and it took another 15 minutes for him to return with one. A single salad arrived 15 minutes after that, but nothing else. Bit by bit entrees started arriving at the table, with everyone but one friend eventually receiving their main course. It was now almost 1 1/2 hours since we were seated and we never received our appetizers. At this point our server went AWOL and we had 15 minutes left before we had to leave. A friend finally flagged an incredibly condescending manager. He shared that the kitchen was very busy had never received our appetizer orders, despite the fact that everything was written on the same page. The missing entree was fetched and quickly inhaled, along with large bowls of rice as a "consolation," but at this point we had to leave to make our show despite the fact that everyone was still hungry. The manager comped some of our entrees and offered to buy us a bottle of wine after the show, but I can assure you none of our group wished to return after this experience. Everyone kept telling us how busy the kitchen was that evening; I don't understand why Wild Ginger would continue to seat guests if the staff was clearly incapable of serving them. I will add that some of our party arrived early to the bar to order snacks and drinks. They requested the check for 1/2 hour, and despite multiple staff telling them it was on the way, the check never arrived. The bill was never paid as no one bothered to follow through and our dinner table was ready. I would suggest that Wild Ginger rethink its service standards as well as its staffing needs to better accommodate its volume. I was really shocked and disappointed by our experience, which was made worse by the fact that no one at the restaurant seemed to really care about the quality of our experience. I do care, and therefore will not be returning to Wild Ginger again. read more

If it had not been for the exceptionally customer service, my dining experience at Wild Ginger would have been just a 2-star rating. We were seated by the hostess promptly despite walking in at just before 6pm on Friday without a reservation. Our waiter was very helpful in explaining the menu to us and had us served and our dinner finished in time for our show at the Paramount. The dishes, however, were really blah and absolutely not worth the price. The squids in our Red Curry Squids were over tenderized and had no flavour at all other than the curry itself. Similarly, we could not taste the beef in our Penang Beef Curry other than the curry. Our Mongolian noodle was simply hot, with heat, period. The restaurant has a great and interesting layout. We were seated at an intimate 2-person table along a narrow balcony on the 2nd level at one end of the restaurant overlooking the kitchen and main dining room below. I just wished the food was better. It was not authentic nor did it live up to any fusion quality. read more

I had the small portion of the 7 flavor beef. Cost was 12.50. The large portion is 18.59. They serve this family style if you like. Excellent meal. You will find this a sweeter dish. Served with white and brown rice. Had the Momokawa Asian pear sake served chilled. Yumm. 8.00 a glass. A bit high priced since a full bottle is only 11.00. My wife and I were big fans but things (the menu/food taste) seems to have changed in year. Pad Thai should be an easy dish to make but it was not the best I've had here. Try the lettuce cups, potstickers and Mandarin chicken. We will likely return if we have an event downtown but it won't be first on our list. UPDATE: We were out last night for a friend's birthday in a reserved, catered room...AMAZING. I can only remember Abigail's name but the other gentleman that assisted us was phenomenal as well. The food was terrific. Each selection better than the next: passion tofu, beef satay, chicken satay, Kung Pao chicken, green beans, oooh and the bbq shrimp. Wow. I literally blindly selected this restaurant.. not knowing how far it was from my place or what sort of food they had. I saw that it was part of restaurant week and that many of my good friends of all ages always raved about this place and I never knew that this was the place they were talking about. All I know now is that every time I am in Seattle I will be making regular visits here, the food and service is very warm and welcoming! Good food menu, good drink selection, and just overall a very classy establishment. I ordered the spring rolls for the first corse and a chicken dish for my second and I wish I remembered the name of it, thankfully I took a picture of it, so I'll be attaching it. Bait and switch on the lunch menu. My spouse and his parents wanted the beef Pho and, while they were out of this, they did have the seafood pho (for $3 more per plate). Strangely, the table next to us got Beef pho ... Food quality was okay, but nothing spectacular and the prices should have been 25-5% less than they were. Extensive wine list, but too expensive--even the non-alcohol drinks bus were $5-6 apiece. Service was almost nonexistent after we ordered our food. The curry was the perfect amount of spice (I like things on the spicier side). I ordered a side of rice with the main dish which was nice and fluffy. The portion was huge so there was plenty leftover. It was pretty packed on a Tuesday night, so I recommend reservations. Neither tasted very authentic but that should be expected considering that the environment seems more American than Thai. Definitely don't recommend coming if you're looking for mind-blowing food but if you're looking for somewhere for a work appropriate meal or something like that then Wild Ginger might be a good bet. read more

GET THE FRAGRANT DUCK, just do it. It is so perfectly tender and spiced, served with steamed buns and a delicious sauce. Seriously, I could eat 20+ of these, everyday. Pro tip: always opt for the large order (small pictured below). While their food menu may be considered fairly limited to some (compared to many Asian restaurants), everything I have tried is delicious. On the opposite end, their wine and cocktail menu is expansive. The service is good and have never had any complaints, however, it is not up to par with El Gaucho or other upscale restaurants in the area. The satays are great, however not always a necessity for me. The sea bass lettuce cups & mussels are my top appetizers. Side vegetable of choice: the green beans! Perfectly flavored and wonderfully al dente (similar to those at Din Tai Fung - also a must order there, FYI). I have heard they are known for the Pad Thai, and I will admit that their's is not my favorite. You can get pad thai a zillion places in Seattle... so go for their specialty dishes. You won't be disappointed! Overall this is 4 stars and a personal favorite of mine; I have been coming to Wild Ginger for years and will continue to do so. read more

I first came to Wild Ginger on a business trip in 2003 and really enjoyed it. I was happy to see the restaurant was still there, so I came for dinner. We started with an order of the Rayong Prawns, which were served in a delicious sauce. The prawns were deshelled, with tails on. As much as I would have liked to have more of the sauce with the rice that came with dinner, probably best that I didn't because more delciousness was on its way. My date really wanted the Angor Wat chicken. From the description, this wouldn't have been my first choice, but it was really great! Try it--it's way more interesting (in a good way) than it sounds! Our last dish was the Sayur Lodeh, which was a really great choice. The curry is thin, so we had it with rice and filled with great vegetables and curry puffs. Came by here for Seattle Restaurant Week and I got the Laksa, Pork Satay, and Mango sorbet. The service was great and my table was checked on multiple times. It was a little odd that my appetizer came after the main dish came, even though my friend's appetizer came before the meal. The food itself was great, defintely above average with the quality of ingredients. The seafood laksa was surprinsgly packed with a ton of seafood. Lots of shrimp, fish, and scallops (big ones). This place is a little on the expeisve side for what you're getting, but overall I was satisified. With the help of advice from the courteous waiter, we ordered the seafood dumpling soup, and then entrees of duck and scallops.
