Our go-to restaurant when we visit Main Street shopping in the Highlands. Best hamburgers in town. Today we had the Spicy Bacon Cheddar Burger, a Wagyu beef on brioche bun, with bacon, lettuce, tomato & cheddar bacon spread. Awesome. The sider was a wild rice salad, so good. Normally we sit inside but today we had out furry baby, we sat outside. Our waiter was so helpful and efficient, and the General Manager came over to welcome us and check on us. We were seated very promptly for lunch on a recent Saturday afternoon weekend visit to the area. The young gal running the host stand wasn't the friendliest of people, but the rest of the staff who we encountered during our lunch were really nice and quick to refill drinks and answer questions. The restaurant's decor is way more elegant than I expected! I thought a casual sandwich lunch but instead was treated to what felt like a much more formal affair, along with the most amazing sesame tofu salad! My family also had the salmon BLT, salmon over puff pastry, and the chicken tenders, all of which were fresh and delicious. I don't know if I'll be back in the Highlands area again, but if someone asked me for a dining recommendation, I would definitely say Wild Thyme. read more

We had a very professional waiter. He interacted with us and was very attentive. The special of the night was a rack of lamb. His description was spot on and it was perfect. I would have complained about the noise level, but once the inch breathed table of 6 next to us, we were able to have a conversation. My Apple Watch gave me 3 excessive noise warnings . Inedible food! Ordered Salmon BLT without mayo for lunch. Arrived with mayo, sent back and cook wiped off mayo from fish with some mayo on it. Sent it back again and received an old piece of fish that was smelly and raw. The crab cakes were soggy and oily. Did not eat the food. Manager subtracted $8.50 from bill, half of the sandwich price and did not come out to talk to us. Left food and went over to Four65 Woodfire Pizza where the pizza is excellent. I almost forgot to post about our fabulous lunch at Wild Thyme in Highlands, NC! My goat cheese with fig preserves and walnuts and a side cup of spinach and artichoke soup was the highlight of my day! The group got crab cakes, a shrimp sandwich, a roast beef sandwich and a grilled chicken sandwich. The bread pudding and dark chocolate dessert were remarkable as well. Wild Thyme was recommended to us as we were shopping around Highlands and I'm so glad it was. We had a party of 9, from ages 2 to 72, and they were able to easily accommodate us on a late Saturday morning. It was a little tough to decide what to order since so many items looked delicious but I saw the open faced fig and goat cheese sandwich once and was sold! Every person in our party, including the kids, enjoyed their meal. OooThe S.O. and I were at the Highlands for a quick overnight stay. We wanted to get lunch on the way out of town. Wild Thyme Gourmet came highly recommended by my parents as well as the staff at the inn we stayed in. I knew I had to check this place out. I'm glad I did! Wild Thyme Gourmet is located in downtown Highlands. The restaurant is somewhat small, but has a full bar, plenty of seating including a few booths and outdoor seating. The interior is decorated by paintings of local artists for sale. They offer American cuisine with Asian influence, and have an extensive wine selection. We came in on President's Day after 1pm, and parked on the street. There was no wait. We were greeted upon entering and seated immediately at a booth. A few tables were already occupied. Our server came up shortly, explained the menu and specials, and took our drink orders. When she came back, we ordered the following: Tomato bisque (soup of the day), a cup $4.50 Warm Grilled Vegetable Sandwich with Wild Rice Salad $11 Spicy Bacon Cheddar Burger with Wild Rice Salad $12.95 For dessert: Butterscotch pudding ~$5 Pecan bread pudding ~$7 The entrées came out hot, except for the wild rice salad. My burger was big and juicy. I was hoping it would be spicy like the name implied, but I didn't notice a kick at all. I do like that the bacon was extra crispy. I love me some extra crispy bacon! My S.O. enjoyed his vegetable sandwich. He devoured the entire thing. His sandwich was big as well. The wild rice was good. Not what I expected, a bit sweeter than I expected, but good. Now, the desserts... OMG. They were TO. DIE. FOR. I love bread pudding, so I knew I would enjoy the pecan bread pudding. It had a sauce, maybe rum? It was warm, soft, and very sweet... just what my big sweet tooth needed. I don't normally eat pudding, but this butterscotch pudding was amazing! It was light, creamy, and also very sweet. I combined the two desserts together in one bite, and could not even. I was done for. Even though the bottom part of the menu states, "no cellphones," the staff did not enforce this "rule." I saw customers on their phones. My S.O. was actually on a conference call when arrived and had to be on his laptop. Since we did not know about this rule beforehand, he walked in with his cellphone and laptop in tow. No one said anything to us. In fact, the staff remained friendly throughout, especially our server who was also very attentive. I felt guilty and tried to limit my cellphone use to food pictures and Yelp check-in. Everytime a staff member walked by, I felt like I was doing something illegal. My S.O. walked out for a few minutes to finish his call, and put his laptop away when he walked back in. Overall, wonderful food, great customer service, big portions, and reasonable prices. I wish this place was closer, but we'll just have to make another trip to the Highlands so I can eat here again! read more

Don't ever go here if you have any food allergies. The manager basically told us they were too busy and we should not have come if we have food allergies. They could not care less that this would have a significant impact on someone's health, only that they did not have to deal with it. Stay away from this place. They have no sympathy for their patrons. I will never go back. I suggest you stay away too. read more

We decided to eat here based on a recommendation from a shop owner at Sapphire Valley. It was myself, my husband, and our 12 year old daughter. She normally orders from the kids menu because she takes medication that affects her appetite, and she usually eats next to nothing at lunch. When we arrived, we looked at the menu posted outside the door. When my daughter saw that grilled salmon was an option on the kids menu, she was excited. So, we decided to go ahead and eat here. When our waiter came to take our order, my daughter ordered the kids salmon. He hemmed and hawed a little, and then asked if she was under ten years old. She said she wasn't, and he said she couldn't order the kids salmon. He then recommended that she order the salmon BLT (which was about $5 more expensive), but he would put it in to be just the salmon. She said that would be ok. He then asked which side she wanted, so she asked him what the options were. He rambled off a handful of things, and she decided to go with the fries. When our bill came, we discovered that they charged extra for her fries, too! If she had gotten their home made chips, there wouldn't have been any up-chsrge, but she can't eat chips because she has braces!! So, we paid MORE for her to have just plain grilled salmon with french fries. The whole experience just left is feeling really bleh about the place The food was tasty, however, with this being our experience it is safe to say we will NEVER return to this restaurant. read more

We waiting about 20 minutes to get a patio table since we had our dog with us on the trip but the bar was happy to serve cocktails while we waited. We ordered a salad that came with a basket of bread...both were good and service was quick to help with additional drinks when needed. I had the market fish and my wife had the lamb! I started off with the Crab&Corn Chowder. It was one of their specials for the day. It was really good! It was a little more on the thinner side. I was expecting a thicker soup, but there was tons of corn. The portion is really big, so I would share this between two people. For my entree, I had the Shrimp and Sea Scallops that came atop a puff pastry. It was super good, but verrrry rich. Also, the puffy pastry tasted very salty for some reason. I had a taste of my sister's Mushroom Napoleon, and that tasted really good as well! Also very rich haha. Overall service was great, and food was great.
