We went for New Year's Eve. I think it's a little hard to rate a restaurant on a holiday so I will go back to see if I can get the 5 star feel. They also have a great happy hour I definitely want to try. That being said, The restaurant is beautifully designed! Feels like something out of Manhattan very sleek, cool and modern. The menu had a good variety of food choice's and the prices were reasonable for an upscale place. We both had pasta, a salad and oysters and the carrots. I think the carrots were one of the best things I ever had as a side dish (get them!) I could have had them as an entree. I am a tough critic on Italian food being Italian so I would say it was good but not my favorite in the city. I think I would try the seafood or steak next time. Chicken Milanese: Nice and crispy chicken. The crust isn't light but it's crunchy in a good way. The chicken is covered with caesar salad. The salad is pretty light. It has really fresh ingredients with a hint of bitterness from like a radicchio-like plant. The toppings have a very mild spicy taste, with nice tangy capers. The flavor is good on top and the lemon was a nice touch. I also thought the chicken was super juicy. The only thing, is maybe this needs something starchy? The portions are very big, but the chicken taste + toppings of capers/peppers seemed a bit too one-note. After this, I had tea. The Lapsong souchang tea was really good. I really enjoyed the clear kettle. The service was very attentive too, and they gave me a takeout cup for the tea. I sat outside. It's pretty busy, so if you go alone on a weekend, it has to be late. My review is based on a private event I attended for my friends wedding dinner. This place is super cute and the service is really good as well! We had a pre-picked menu and everything we had were super tasty! Can't forget about their amazing cocktails. I came to Wilder for restaurant week and my weekly date night and adventure. We had an 830p reservation and we arrived a little early. They still sat us within 5 minutes and we had the ability to start perusing the menu. They offered the full regular menu in addition to the restaurant week specials. I opted in and my partner got an app and pasta to accompany. The portion sizes are generous and really well seasoned. We both enjoyed everything we had, and we were SO full the rest of dessert came home with us for breakfast the next morning. The staff was friendly, out waitress Ashley gave great recommendations for beverages. Be prepared to put your full order in at the same time, and everything will come out timed perfectly. Likening it to eggnog was apt as you either like or hate beaujolais; no one loves it. I ordered a grenache from Côtes du Rhône. I'm no chef but the bucatini cacio e pepe was terribly salty and the Parmesan on top made it even more so. There wasn't a pepper grinder on the table, which might have helped cut the saltiness. The marinated honey nut squash appetizer would have benefited from a lighter-flavored squash like delicata or even butternut -- the honey nut was too heavy both in density and flavor and overwhelmed the figs, cheese, greens and dressing. First off, this place is decorated so beautifully. The decor really lives up to the name of the restaurant. I came here for dinner after driving in for a work trip. I come to PHL often, but hadn't tried this place yet. We came in and sat at the bar and were immediately greeted and handed menus. The service here is exceptional. The staff is very knowledgeable of all the items on the menu and offered great recommendations. My business partner was picky and wanted some modifications to his pork chop, and the staff worked with him to keep both their menu item as it was designed to be eaten while also accommodating it for him, and he loved it!! I had the tortellini with prosciutto and mortadella (as is lol). It was honestly the most amazing pasta I have ever had!! Perfect recommendation. I will be thinking about it for awhile! We decided to get the clam pizza and the fall fever pizza and the oysters. I had never had clams on pizza before but I was surprised to find that it was so yummy! The fall fever pizza with mushrooms was also so good. There's just something about brick oven pizzas that's so satisfying. The dough was nice, airy and chewy; so good! The staff were attentive and helpful, though not quite warm/friendly. It was surprisingly busy for lunch so I recommend a reservation. We tried the roasted oysters which were GREAT, and then did the soup and sandwich lunch special. The soups were exceptional, really well executed in terms of flavors and textures (and appearance!). The chicken picatta sandwich was large and yummy, but not amazingly done; the cutlet could have been crunchier and the sauces could have had more zing. But still good! The fries were definitely great! All around that meal combo seems a nice value. For cocktails the rum drink I had, marked as a bartender special, was nice but nothing special really (for GREAT drinks head over to Ranstead Room nearby). I'd have to try more drinks before weighing in hard, but it was a minor miss for me there and I wouldn't go for just drinks. Everything, and I don't use that word lightly, everything regarding Wilder is absolutely delectable. It is forever a Rittenhouse favorite of mine for any occasion, at any given meal. Their signature pull apart rolls in the dinner menu are reason enough to go out. The raw bar, available for brunch, lunch, and dinner remains one of the freshest I have had the honor of having in all of Philadelphia. A bonus is that if you appreciate the fine art of a seasonal menu with ever clever rotational drink names, what more do you need to consider in deciding to choose Wilder for your next meal? The portions & prices exist where your stomach and wallet are simultaneously taken care of, something I cannot confidently say about many other places. The fabulousness of dining at Wilder is made possible through their staff being guided by dedicated leadership being some of the most considerate and meticulous people that are culturally and dietarily aware of all the nuances their guests come in with. My dietary need is Zabiha Certified Halal, and even though they do not offer Halal beef or chicken, the staff has always taken this detail into careful consideration to not have any part of my predominantly seafood and vegetarian meal remotely be anywhere near the possibility of cross contamination. For this, I thank you Wilder for making me feel seen and heard. The luscious teal booths, the intricately patterned rugs adorning the walls, the ambient chandeliers, and their coolest cheetah mascot all provide a romantic yet comforting, elegantly elevated yet still down to earth vibe. The sauce and nuts added an amazing flare to the carrots, especially when you mix the carrots in the sauce. The crab pasta was excellent! I attended a business lunch here. It's great for small and medium size parties. Beautiful ambience, artsy and cozy. The noise level is moderate. Pleasant and knowledgeable servers. What's really nice too is that when planning ahead the restaurant can accommodate your gathering with a three course family style menu. Which is great for cost and time saving. My favorite first course was the Roasted Oysters! I feel like Roasted Oysters are hard to find at most restaurants in Philly so I was thrilled to see them on the menu and what a treat they were! It was such a hit that we ordered several rounds for our table. And even then I wanted to eat them all to myself but had to share. lol The Oysters were cooked beautifully, nice size, very plump, juicy and topped with seasoned breadcrumbs and drizzled in chili butter. Awesome first course. The sweet and Spicy Pizza was another favorite of mine. It wasn't to hot or spicy, it was just right! Generous amount of toppings, you could see and taste fresh herbs, pepperoni lightly charred which gave it a great texture against the melted mozzarella and thin crust with just the right crunch to it. A lot of folks have ranted and raved about the Mafaldine All Vodka and it's not a bad dish at all but I think it fell short of all the hype. However, it was the better pasta dish in comparison to the Cacio E Pepe. The Mafaldine All Vodka had a rich flavorful sauce but could have gone a little lighter on it and a bit heavier on the Chesapeake crab. I had a hard time finding lumps of crab, the pasta was crab fragrant but missed on getting that lump crab taste you would expect. The Cacio E Pepe looked better than what it tasted. The flavor of the sauce fell short and so was the texture of the pasta. I don't know what base they used for the sauce but it taste more like lemon than black pepper. Maybe it was lemon peper *shrug*. Nonetheless, out of the two pastas the Mafaldine was better. Great vibes here especially if you go with folks you love. Overall great experience. read more

I had brunch at Wilder with a friend this past Saturday, and we had a great time. We shared: the scallop crudo (ajo blanco, marcona almonds, grapes, and cucumber), which we loved (that ajo blanco and grapes!?); the Grilled Salmon Salad (with everything furikake, cucumber, avocado, red onion, capers, eggs, and goat cheese dressing), which was good but the salmon was definitely a little overcooked/dry for me; and mafaldine alla vodka (Chesapeake jumbo lump crab, breadcrumbs, and basil), which was delicious (but when you put breadcrumbs on the menu, give me all the breadcrumbs - these were sparse, I almost forgot they were there). We had a glass of wine each, which were good (they also offer cocktails, beer, coffee, tea, and plenty of interesting non-alcoholic drinks). The service was great - very friendly. The restaurant itself is beautiful - and really large (two floors). Overall, it wasn't a meal that I'll dream about and wake up drooling, but it was good, and I enjoyed our brunch here! I'm not a huge fan of modern American cuisine, but I was really pleasantly shocked by the quality and taste of the food at wilder. I had their beet salad, lemon clam pizza, and malfadine penne crab meat pasta. All three dishes were amazing. They were so flavorful and the seafood dishes tasted very fresh. The portion sizes are not the biggest, but they do not skimp on the crab meat for the pasta. The vibes and service of the restaurant was also very cozy and romantic. I heard they also have an amazing brunch and happy hour so I am planning on going to those in the near future! I've walked past wilder's neon pink sign a million times and never gone in, and I'm so glad I finally did. All of the food sounded amazing and tasted even better. We got the Spanish octopus and sweet and spicy pizza, both of which were amazing. The octopus might've been the best octopus dish I've ever had, and it was shockingly filling for an octopus main. We also got the fried squash blossoms as an appetizer, but these could be skipped. They were crispy and ricotta filled but nothing special and the batter was a little thick for me. Our servers name was George. They don't make them like George anymore. He was awesome. The person who sat down next to us after we were ready to get up was from out of town was a little hard to understand. He was having trouble with the menu and had some dietary restrictions. George knelt down and went over each item he was considering to help him choose. That's an attitude money can't buy. The seating kinda sucks. It's pretty tight and the seats aren't very comfortable. Decor was really cool. Jungle theme and jungle cats. Food was pretty good. I noticed they seem to lean more towards sweet things. Most things had bread or were breaded. Had a lovely lunch yesterday with girlfriends before the Anna Crusis Feminist Choir concert (which was wonderful!). We were seated upstairs in a comfy couch on one side type of seating, chairs on the other side, tucked in the back near the restrooms which was a really great location. We did not have difficulty hearing each other talk despite the restaurant being quite full. Between us we had the following items: Wilder Cheeseburger - 5/5, I split it with a friend who would probably rate it a 4/5 because she realized she does not like Maitake mushrooms and the cherry peppers were more heat than she prefers. I really like mushrooms of any type and liked the fire of the peppers. We ordered it medium and it came out medium rare. Fries on the side of the cheeseburger - 5/5, outstanding fries, crispy and thinner cut Falafel salad - 3/5, I split with a friend. Falafels get a 3, the rest of the salad a 5. The falafels were crispy and a good texture but had very little taste and were very dry. Without any hummus or tahini to go with them, even the dressed salad could not compensate for their dry nature. Mushroom melt - 4/5, I did not try this but my friends did and thought it was good. Good enough that one took her leftovers home, but the other did not. Grilled salmon salad - 5/5, I wanted to order this and will the next time, my friend said it was excellent. There was half an avocado and good sized piece of salmon on the salad. All said, I'd return because the ambiance was nice, there are other items on the menu I'd like to try and service was very good. read more

Probably my favorite dining experience on this recent trip to Philly. Let me be clear, this is not an Italian restaurant, at least not in the traditional sense. I'd call it 'eclectic' but what I really think it is is basically a very talented chef who put all his favorite foods on a menu (regardless of genre). Bunch of oysters. Bunch of pizzas and pastas. And to render eclectic the menu includes chicken, fish, steak and burger options for those who need... options. Works for me! The execution is perfect. They have parker house-style rolls that are not free and don't come with the meal, but I'd pay every penny and only regret I didn't order a second batch! Had the pizza with the hot honey (and I'm not a big hot honey guy at all) but the pizza was served hot hotter than the sun and was exquisite. My daughter had a hangar steak which was divine. This is their vegetarian pizza that comes with broccolini, pesto, cherry peppers, and provolone. The cherry peppers gave the pizza a little spicy kick to it. I liked the pizza overall - one slice is very filling and the doughy crust is amazing. I also tried their grilled/charred oysters too. I've been to Wilder twice and I've ordered takeout twice, and let me tell you, it's always the right decision. I'm not usually a pasta gal but the Mafaldine alla vodka from Wilder literally had me craving pasta for WEEKS! And honestly no other pasta could satisfy my craving like the malfaldine or bacatini from Wilders (other than Murphs, IYKYK ). Each time I've sat inside I've always had a reservation so I can't speak to how long the wait time is, but the staff is always friendly and helpful (running your takeout out the door because you forgot). The selection of drinks is nice but as someone that doesn't drink often, it was really thoughtful that they offered non alcoholic cocktails.
