I believe their pastas are house made and the squid ink pasta is wonderful! Additionally they have a great happy hour with white bean hummus (comes with pizza bianca to dip) and truffle arancini. Happy hour is only served at the bar and the associated bar tables behind it. It tasted similar to hot honey with the sweet and savory flavors. Highly recommend! The ragu pasta dish was also incredible! The meat that came with it was so tender and flavorful. It melts in your mouth and actually came with a good amount of meat compared to most ragu dishes! Our waiter was very attentive and provided great recommendations on the menu. I'm not exaggerating when I say, I close my eyes and remember the pasta here and think to myself "How can I get back there?" The Mafaldine Alla Vodka was so, so good. The crab so abundant, the pasta so tender and perfectly flavored. Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself. My husband and I chose Wilder for our anniversary dinner. Reservations were easy to make online, and miraculously we found free parking on Sansom Street, a block down from the restaurant. Despite running slightly behind, our reservation was held and we were escorted to our seats - a velvety couch beside other diners, with a single candle lit on the table. I was really liking the atmosphere from the start. The leopard print pillows on the couch were my kind of style. One thing I noticed, it did take a bit for someone to come fill our glasses and greet us at the table, but once our waiter - Charlie - arrived, he was very pleasant. I can tell this is a new-ish establishment, because it does feel like the staff are working on a rhythm to their service, but it appears to be getting there. Our glasses were kept full and we were checked on pretty often. Our waiter in particular seemed to be doing his best with multiple tables. For his part, he seemed to be keeping up. This place was bustling! The drinks really were great. I think my husband could have had several more of the Bright Antennas if he didn't stop himself. The food, likewise, was just perfection. I am not an oyster eater at all, and I quite enjoyed the roasted oysters with bread crumbs. The crab pasta, though, will live on in my heart until I get back here. It took a while to be made, but that plate was steaming and did not disappoint. I devoured it. The dessert finale was really a sweet treat to cap off a lovely evening. My friends and I went to Wilder for restaurant week. To say we were disappointed was an understatement. Our poor experience started with our waitress. As we were taking a picture, our waitress came over and told we could not use flash. We were confused, as we were not bothering anyone, as all the tables around us were empty. Now the food, underwhelming. Two of us picked the braised beef, dry and chewy. So chewy, that I practically choked on a piece. My friend picked the mafaldine pasta with crab. The crab tasted fake, and sauce was so terrible, my friend practically did not touch her entree. Needless to say we will not be back. It's quite easy to find the restaurant as they have a huge lit WILDER on the outside. You can enter the bar up a few steps on the left or enter the hostess area to the right. The Pull Apart Rolls were delicious. Soft and fluffy, topped with salt, a bit oily but so good. I ordered the Bucatini and it was amazing. The hostess was very welcoming and sat us upstairs. I got a mocktail which was delicious along with the rolls and Shishito peppers to start. The server (short blonde hair) refused to come back to our table and the manager (tall man wearing eagles jersey) never came over to apologize and speak to us. I was a bit nervous but so good! I liked the tart, sweet and slightly pickley taste of the drink so the pickle on top made sense. Really was interesting how the contrasting flavors were perfectly paired in this drink. The crab cake and side salad weren't nearly as exciting. The crab cake is good and all meat, no nasty fillers. I like tartar sauce, wouldn't say it's my favorite condiment, but I didn't enjoy the one that came with the crab cake. I was trying to pinpoint what I didn't like about it, but not sure. Just didn't enjoy it so I didn't use it. The side salad was so basic. It had very little flavor and didn't add much value to the meal. My lunch partners had the Spicy Chicken Sandwich, Sansom Street Saesar with chicken and the Garlicky Clam Pizza. We all agreed to the food was fine/good but sadly didn't live up to our expectations. The worst part was I left hungry so I had to stop and get tacos before heading home. My piece of advice is don't go there on an empty stomach or make sure you order heavier foods if you're really hungry. I've been contemplating whether I'd go back. The Mafaldine was delicious with HUGE lumps of crab. The pasta was perfectly cooked and sauce was delicious as well. The Seafood Grille wasn't quite my favorite, so I think you can skip out in this one, but I'm sure the other entrees are delectable. I came here for dinner last night with my wife, and our experience was such a rollercoaster ride in the beginning, but then ultimately unfolded into one of the best dinner I've had in a long time. The place is absolutely gorgeous. There is so much going on with the decor, from the tapestry to leopard bar stools and pillows, and it all works. The hosting staff was so nice and attentive. We showed up at 8:45 pm for our reservation and were seated immediately. We sat upstairs. The tables were a little tightly stacked together, kind of New York style, and it was packed when we arrived. We were immediately greeted by our server who was very nice but seemed a bit overwhelmed. We noticed the table next to us were eating pizza and had asked the waiter for two cocktails as he rushed by. It took about 5 minutes for us to get water at our table. The server finally took our drink order, but it took almost 20 minutes to get our first cocktails! And when we got them, the table next to us still hadn't gotten theirs. Needless to say, the bar was very backlogged and clearly understaffed. The server then took our food order. He was very knowledgeable of the menu and identified his favorites. But about 10 minutes after we ordered, while my wife was in the bathroom, the server came back to my table and asked me if I was ready to order! Lol. I reminded him that he just took our complete food order. And he quickly checked his pad and realized he had our order, then apologized. The table next to us overheard this and started laughing. They then complained to me that they were still waiting on their drinks, and that the service had been very slow. We saw another table get seated and then leave within 15 minutes. Obviously, the first 25-minutes after being seated was a mess of an experience. But after the table next to us left, and the place cleared up a bit, the service became stellar and the food blew our minds. The server totally redeemed himself. I think he was just flabbergasted by the slow bar service, which set him back. But once the food starting flowing in, the service was perfect. We started off with some oysters and the foie gras. The oysters were fresh and perfectly shucked. The foie gras was prepared pate style and the best I ever had. There was no bitter aftertaste and the jam on top of the foie gras was perfect. The server brought us more toast because I demolished the first serving. I cant wait to come back and order this again. For our second course we ordered the Margherita Pizza. The crust and sauce were amazing. I highly recommend the pizza. We were blown away. For the third course, we ordered the Mafaldine Alla Vodka, Thumbalina Carrots and Octopus. OMG. The pasta was one of the best I ever had. The sauce was amazing and there was so much crab in the dish. I never saw that kind of pasta before. It was like lasagna noodles sliced up. It really worked. The carrots were phenomenal. They were served over a delicious creamy feta. The octopus was cooked perfectly. I didn't love the eggplant puree but it was good. I'm just not a fan of eggplant. But overall the dish was executed extremely well. The portions were pretty good for the price too. We were extremely full and took some pizza home. Overall, the food here is incredible. The restaurant is gorgeous. The cocktails were delicious. They just need to iron out some kinks with the service. I would suggest going during non-peak hours until they figure out their staffing and service issues. But I assure you that you will not be disappointed. Both were delicious; the oysters were super flavorful and not heavily coated, and the salad was zesty with the right amount of dressing. Next, we had the sweet and spicy pizza. OMGG, my mouth waters just thinking of every bite. Being from NYC I am very particular with my pizza, but this place knows what they're doing. New kid on the block, coming in Hot! Wilder, which occupies the old Philadelphia Academy of Social Dance building, is now a 3 story restaurant dishing out really yummy eats. The restaurant has the cutest decor from the large marquee sign on the outside, to their green velvet sofas, mismatched chandeliers and Persian rugs on the inside. The food is so good. Not one bad thing about anything I had! The usual suspect cocktail (gin base) is nice, light and earthy. For a boozier option, go with the antique showcase (bourbon base) which sort of taste like an old fashion but is slightly more bitter. The sweet & spicy pizza is just that. The soppressata gives off the perfect amount of heat, and then the sweet onion and honey balance that with a touch of sweetness. The roasted half chicken and the mafaldine alla vodka with lump crab were the showstoppers of the night. I've never had an alla vodka pasta like this, it was truly one of a kind and they did not skimp on the crab. For the chicken, the truffle jus was perfection, and the maitake mushrooms served on the plate add a nice textural component to the dish. Last but not least, the dessert. I did not eat it and when I lifted the lid, it smelled a bit fishy. There is crab in it. Fish should never ever smell fishy. The bill was 144.00 with delivery and tip. A high price to pay for mediocre cooking. Not sure why so many reviews here gave this place 4 stars or more. The pull apart bread was fine but salty and the flour was such that the rolls just flattened when biting into one. Seemed like cheap flour.
