First time in Texas. Our group of 12 came in and we're greeted by a very nice short haired woman (I think her name was Micah but I could be wrong) she was super attentive the entire time, and very personable. Food was stellar. Especially the pot pie! Honestly if anyone is coming through Grape Vine this should be a definite stop. Micah even helped me charge my phone which she did not have to do. DON'T- I repeat- DON'T park in the front spots directly in front of the restaurant unless you are a bike and by bike I mean motorcycle! I made the "mistake" of arriving just before opening time, seeing all these empty spots and parking right in front. About the time I got out of my SUV, I started to get surrounded by all kinds of people on bikes who pretty much pushed me out of my spot, I felt so bad I HAD to move my car to the lot across the street. YES, I HAD to. It was like I had broken some sort of unspoken rule about bike parking. Just so you know, I have been here or driven by here on other days and yes the bikes are parked right out front, so I guess I should have known better right from the get go. I've been to Wilhoite's a number of times. For whatever reason, "bikers" seem to like hanging out here. I'm not sure why. It's kind of annoying having motorcycles come and go as you're trying to talk to your pal over a beer. Wilhoite's is a decent bar, as far as bars go. It feels like it's been around awhile. It has that well-worn feel to it - wooden floors and booths and bar stools. Lots of old signage on the walls. Lots of little different areas; booths, private rooms, little stage off to the side, some weird upstairs areas with pool tables. The food, well, it's OK. Not great. I've done their buffet and a number of menu items. Let's just say you don't go here for the great food. You go here for a beer and maybe to shoot pool. There are two pool tables, coin operated. 75 cents a game. These are smaller tables - not regulation, but still fun. Waitresses will come up to check on you and bring you beer, which is nice. Oh -you CAN smoke here, which is a plus. Even cigars. Big plus for me! They also have a patio out front but it's pretty noisy out there - traffic and bikes coming and going. I should have read the reviews before stopping here for dinner. Like many other reviewers commented... If you're looking for an okay bar then this is the place. However, if you want a decent restaurant, pass this one up and move to another on the list. The restaurant is supposed to be non-smoking but there is not much separating it from the bar area which was extremely smoky! The salad bar was actually really good but that is about the only good thing I can say about the food. My husband's mashed potatoes and my french fries were very cold. Well terrible bar service. When you order a drink, which I ordered a Long Island tea. And the bar guy, Chris, put 1 liquor and coke into the glass. As I'm watching him. And I ask how did you make that and he says he puts 4 of the liquors and I was clearly watching this guy make the drink and he lies. Still charges me for it and plays it off. Well guess what not going to be returning for crappy service and terrible drinks and especially being made a fool of but still being charged. Don't waste your time at this place. This place is pretty gross- people smoke inside and it's pretty dingy. There was only one beer on tap. But...I had to give at least two stars because the band was great and I had a blast okay the dance floor. There are pool tables upstairs. I didn't try any of the food. Felt like a mix between biker bar and a dive bar. Perhaps if I were a local I would see the "charm" in the smoke clouds, but I am in fact a tourist. ;) read more

My step dad suggested we go here, he liked their Buffet. We entered thru the back door and I felt as if I entered a casino with as much smoke that was in the air. They had a great big open front arts but still with all the cigarette smoke every are in the place smelled so bad. The buffet they had that day was hamburgers , chicken patties and Sausage with fries, okra, beans and salad .. all the meat was sitting in water not appealing. Fries and okra were soggy . The salad seemed to be the only edible thing on the buffet. They say the buffet is better on most days. They being the waitress so I'm not sure how true that is. They wouldn't let me order off the menu. If it weren't for the cigarette smell I'd might me back to check out a better buffet but I just can't handle walking out of a place and smelling horrible for the rest of the day. read more

Willhoite's is one of my favorite places in the Metroplex for Sunday brunch. They've got a nice buffet with both standard breakfast items (french toast, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, etc) as well as other buffet items (fried chicken, fried fish, sirloin tips, salad, fruit, desserts). My favorite thing on their buffet is their smoked salmon. I don't know for sure, but I'd bet they smoke it in-house. It is tender and not dry and smoky and just delicious! They should offer bagels, cream cheese, capers, chopped onions, and sliced tomatoes to go with the salmon, but, alas, they don't! There is an omelette station where you get to dictate what goes into your custom creation. The omelettes are great, but they are a little big for me - when I go to a buttet, I want to try a little of many things, and eating one of these gargantuans fills me up. They also have Belgian waffles to order and there are cinnamon rolls (delicious) in that area as well. The service is good and friendly - the servers are good at keeping your coffee, iced tea, water, orange juice full. The price is great and they offer a senior discount. I must say - I don't go to Willhoite's for the atmosphere - I go for the food! Give them a try when you're looking for a moderate, leisurely Sunday brunch. You can thank me later... read more

Kind of a 2 star bar. Smoky and sleazy, extremely crowded as well, maybe due to st Patrick's day? This was last stop on our bachlorette partying. We ordered Irish car bombs and spent the night clustered together in whatever corner we could find since it was so crowded! It was hard to order Drinks because getting to the bar required you to be very aggressive. There is a small dance floor which a drunk couple or two would occasionally have the balls to use. The live music was nice touch but very loud. When trying to decide on stars, it wasn't until 2 "Meh, I've Experienced Better," appeared that it made sense. I have fond memories of standing between a military man and the pubic to prevent him from taking a swing at a mouthy patron, but I also have fond memories of amazing home cooking. Guess only one of those memories will stand. Arrived around 1P and perused the buffet. Roast beef and green beans were on the menu board outside, also on the buffet line, though it looked like meatloaf and green beans. By the time we went through the line, it was meatloaf and sliced asparagus. Co-worker and I both tried mashed potatoes - not very flavorful. In fact, from her plate she said corn was the best thing and from my plate, I voted for asparagus pieces. Enjoyed jalapeno hushpuppies but still chewy, sausage had been on buffet too long, and substituted meatloaf required - again - too much chewing. Skip the pre-made salads on salad bar since they all taste like they've come from a can and go for the cobblers or banana pudding. They may be premade but they remake well. Since we both enjoyed our green salads (though the dressings were not homemade) and the tomato Florentine soup and desserts, we'd love to see a $9 soup/salad/dessert option versus $9 soup/salad and $10 full buffet. read more

I had been here several years ago and I thought I enjoyed it then. I was split between trying Jake's Uptown and going here again, so I decided to stop in and give it another try. I think I made the wrong decision. The main thing to know is it's a bar, so the smoke smell is just caked on everything in the building. Even though there was no one smoking while I was there, the smell just lingered the entire time. The lunch buffet was very underwhelming. I wouldn't go so far to say this is Golden Corral bad, but everything was VERY bland and/or luke warm. The only exceptions are the BBQ and mashed potatoes, which were quite good (hence the 2-star rating). I didn't look at the menu, but there's nothing that would be worth going back and sitting in that place again for a meal. The service was okay, all they did was take my dirty plate and bring my check. I didn't even need a refill on my drink, so they pretty much just left me alone. The combination of the quality of food, smoke smell, and dreary feeling in the place is more than enough to keep me from coming back again. read more

We usually opt for other restaurants when in downtown Grapevine. We decided to try Willhoite's today. So very sorry we did. Institutional elementary school cafeteria food at its worst. Everything on the buffet was canned, over cooked and lukewarm. Even the apple cobbler was canned pie filling. A visit to the omelette bar was disappointing. I walked away after waiting a few minutes for the omelette chef to look up from her cell phone and acknowledge me. We ordered from the bar. The screwdriver was tiny (a small old fashioned glass) and watery. My Bloody Mary was watery and bland....undrinkable. When it is obvious your customer has only taken a few sips of her drink, a good server would ask if it was ok. Nope! Totally ignored that and our half eaten plates. There are so many wonderful restaurants within a few blocks of this one that would be much better choices. read more

This was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had in my life. We came here for dinner because all other restaurants had a 2 hour wait. The service was absolutely horrible and took us an hour to get our food. We were hoping the food would be good enough to make up for it, but it was just as bad as the service. We even witnessed an employee that was stocking the salad bar sampling some of the food with her fingers, and random patrons walking by and grabbing foods from the buffet with their hands also. It may be an okay bar to come to for drinks, but the restaurant here makes me question how it is possible that this place is still in business. read more

Was literally joking with the bartender because he asked for my ID, so my friend and I proceeded to hand it to him. He hands back my friends who is 24, and I was like "I just turned 21 by the way". And he was like "oh is it April already" and I said "yeah it's April". I thought this was all just a fun playful conversation but it turned around and started yelling at me that I was a guest in his restaurant and if I wanted to act like that then I need to leave. By all means if he thought I was being disrespectful I apologize, but I wasn't raised that way and I wasn't drunk or acting a fool in anyway. I told him I was sorry and he said "Yeah you are". And we immediately left. This was extremely unprofessional and uncalled for. My guy friend stayed back for a second and told me to go outside because he wanted to stand up for me since I'm a girl, but from outside I could hear "GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE" from several people inside. Im not sure on the service or the cleanliness, but this place is a total hoot. Here is a rundown of my experiences. 1. I see a woman in a full on fur coat. Me - Is that a fur coat for real. Fur lady - Yes, its a fox. Me - Thats gross. Yes, I did say that... and yes, it was gross. Later I see she tucked it under her hiding it some... (dont worry, I was punished for this later) 2. A George Carlin lookin dude comes up to me and my group and asks for us to sit at his table... not because he wanted to hang out, but because he was leaving and didnt like the guys eyeballin his table nearby. So he wanted us to get it before they could get it. 3. I go to the potty... minding my own business in line... (here's where karma kicks my booty). The lady next to me says - OMG, you look just like my daughter and grabs my head and shoves it in her boobs... it seemed like it lasted forever... and she wouldnt let go until it was her turn to pee. 4. The band was pretty good... typical cover band, but the drummer looked like marilyn manson and had a dress on and the singer had an orange fro... dont get me wrong - they totally rocked! Love leather? Hate annoying groups of 18 year olds? Wilhoite's is your new home away from home!! You'll certainly have an eyeful of biker best when you walk through the often crowded doors, but you'll soon feel right at home. The food is ok and the buffet is satisfying, but let's face it -- you're here for the kick-arse 70's cover band and a few beers to wash it all down. A full bar will cater to your every need, and at a place like this, people will actually move aside to make room for you (aka NOT Addison). I'm not sure as to the extent of their snotty-beer wares, but I've ordered a Pacifico numerous times and they always have it. The weekend crowd is a bit older, but twenty-somethings like yours truly like to sneak in for the cougars and Johnny Cash sugardaddies (seriously, I've met one before). This is a place where you can dance your little tail off to Brick House or American Woman and NEVER be the worst dancer on the small but fun dance floor. I've never heard a bad band here, and the place is set up to cater to any mood you come with. There's a dining area in a darkened corner that is somewhat sheltered from the noise. A large patio is a great hotspot on Saturday nights, and two upstairs areas (one a loft accessible by a single spiral staircase) hold pool tables...and possibly darts. Never pretentious, always entertaining (can you say, People-watching?), and the place you're mostly likely to run into your grandfather or favorite uncle out chasing the blonds on his 2nd life crisis. I will never set food in this place again! My aunt and I were in town for a doctor's appointment running errands and wanted something quick and good to eat. We went for the buffet. There was a lot to offer in a wide range of food. It was easily the sorriest meal I've ever eaten. The worst thing on the buffet I tried was the chicken primavera. It left a bad taste in my mouth for hours after I ate one bite. It was only a little after 1 p.m. but the food shouldn't be bad that soon after the lunch hour on a Monday. The best things I had on the menu were the steamed carrots, peach cobbler and the ice cream from the machine. Everything on the buffet tasted like it had been setting out ever since the morning crowd. We sat in the non-smoking section, witch felt like being put in a holding pin separate from the rest of the restaurant. The waitress was very kind, but was not attentive at all, I had to, on more than one occasion, get up and stand at the doorway to wait for her to ask her a question or for service. For the $9.50 per person buffet, we didn't even come close to getting our money's worth. As for the other patrons of this restaurant, I hope that the ordered food from the menu is much better than the buffet. read more

We stumbled on the perfect lunch place. The buffet was fresh and plentiful. I had a wonderful salad with many toppings. My husband had fajitas, tacos, and empanadas. All this from the salad bar! We were invited by some friends to go out for drinks in Grapevine. We show up here, and the shenanigans began. Service was slow, but watching wasted bikers chat up cougars made the wait acceptable. The people watching here is phenomenal. If you sit outside, prepare to be deafened by motorcycles leaving every few minutes. Usually once they made noise and left, they would just cruise down the street an come back and sit down as if they just went to the restroom. Some incredibly old people were dancing inside, and they were amazing. I would come back here again, just for a couple beers and some amazing people watching. Willhoites is a good place all around. Good people watching, and usually some pretty good music. The only reason I don't rate it higher is because the food isn't great and I personally like Esparzas, Tolbert's, Big Fish and some of the other places on historic Main Street better. Wilhoites is definitely popular with the biker crowd, and don't mistakenly think of the biker crowd from 20 years ago. This is a suburban, buy a Harley or other bike and be a weekend warrior crowd. Very laid back place. I would probably recommend checking out Willhoites more to grab a beer after window shopping on historic Main Street than for their food. If you decide to join the biker crowd yourself there is a Biker retail store next door and you can just buy a leather jacket and you will be right at home. read more

The food was worse than prison fare. The vegetables were shriveled up and floating in stale water, the fried chicken and catfish were cooked beyond recognition and all of the food had a plastic-coated look and flavor. The poor girl working our table was so bored, she checked on us literally every 5 to 7 minutes, she finally confessed that she was bored and jokingly asked if she could sit and chat with us. The worst part of this "restaurant" is that people are allowed to smoke in any part of it, not just the bar or the back of the restaurant, but literally every section had smokers. Our experience went from bad to worse to intolerable when a group of guys sat two tables over from us and lit up cigars. We had to flee the place for fear of throwing up. This is obviously not a restaurant. It is an old, smelly day-drinker's bar that happens to serve "food", if you can call it that. It's a shame too because it has so much history (my great grandfather worked as a mechanic there when it was a garage), it is in an awesome location, and it could be such a fun, thriving place for people of from all walks of life, all ages, singles, families, kids - anyone! I was here for the first time a few years ago on a Saturday night with a group of friends and it was a fun time. I moved away and came back to the area so since I had such a fun time before and raved about it to my partner in crime, we decided to have dinner and drinks there one week night. As soon as we walked in, there were 2 men and a woman seated at a table to the right of the entrance and they couldn't stop staring. Once I finish this portion of the review, you will understand why I even mention this uncomfortable situation. We were seated and our server took our drink order. No problem with her as she was polite and helpful. As we waited for our drinks, the 3 gawkers were STILL staring and even whispering. I felt like we were in middle school. Jeez! And to my shock, the woman with the 2 men, turned out to be a server. (She had a rockabilly type look.) I don't know why she felt the need to participate in the gawking and uncomfortable stares at my boyfriend and I, but it was rude. Very rude. I'm stopping the review here as nothing else is worth mentioning when a server is so blatantly disrespectful. This was the 6th time my wife and I had been here and had the dinner buffet. We drove from south Arlington just to eat there. We were very disappointed this trip, the lettuce on the salad bar was terrible looking for starters. The sausage slices were anemic, the ribs were dry and the catfish was bland, my wife had the roast beef and was very dissatisfied with it, these were all foods we have had there in the past and were pleased with, not this time though. The sweet tea was barely sweet and the banana pudding was some of the worst I've ever had. I definitely wouldn't make a special trip up there again to eat, I may try again in the future if I happen to be in grapevine for other reasons with the hope they have gotten much better. read more
