I took 3 chefs knives to be sharpened on a Wednesday afternoon. My knives are relatively nice (~$200 price range each) and were in good quality, just dull (no chips, rusting, etc). William's mother greeted me, took my knives, and reminded me of the price range per knife. On Friday morning, I got a text that my knives were ready and confirming the final price. Pick up was quick and easy, and the knives are well sharpened. Two of my knives are polished to a shiny finish, and William was able to maintain that shine. The knives cut so much better now, and I'm sure I'll be back in the future. A few notes - the gate to the backyard is in the cul de sac (not the main street that the front door is on), so when you send the text letting them know that you've arrived, they'll meet you at that side gate. They only accept cash or Venmo. They don't give you the final price or pickup time until the work is done, I think because William needs to assess the knives. I trusted him with my dog grooming shears. Two of them were ground down beyond repair. My thinning shears no longer overlap at the tip. When I originally picked them up I payed because I needed to go yo my car to cry and collect myself before going back and asking for a refund (which I did get) but now I have $300+ worth of shears I need to replace and the rest I need to find someone who can hopefully fix them. If you look at the pictures you can see the excessive amount of metal removed by his "sharpening" they are all meant to be straight from inner edge to tip and you can see where he got grinder happy with the tips of each pair. The blue handled pair is meant to have a blunt tip for safely grooming dogs faces but you can see that he ground them to a point while also removing enough metal to actually grind away part of the original engraving. I'm gonna start this review by mentioning that this service is done entirely out of a private home, so don't get confused when you plug in the address and wind up in a residential neighborhood. Hopefully that clears up any confusion for you when you go to get your knife sharpened. Just expect to pull up to a quiet neighborhood and be waved over by a lady coming out of her side yard as you wander the street looking for a knife shop that isn't actually a knife shop. Anyway, so the story is I dropped my favorite carry knife and snapped the tip off. I unfortunately don't have the tools to fix it anymore so I was looking for someone to fix the tip and do it quickly. William was fast to respond when I sent him a photo of my knife and said he could do it for less than $20. My schedule is pretty packed so I asked if he could accomodate me and get it done that day. He was very accomodating and finished it in around 10 minutes. Blade looked good as new and was razer sharp. Unfortunately my pants got to experience my knife's new edge as the blade opened a little in my pocket and proceeded to slice my pocket open. Super sharp, perfect edge. Sharpest blade I've ever used! With his concerns in mind, I opted not to re-handle the knife as it would cost much more than a comparable new knife replacement. He brought my old knife back to life with a smoothing and reshaping of my handle (the old wood slabs had worn away, exposing metal edges of the blade tang) and sharpened two others in less than 24 hours. This is my first ever Yelp review and I'm leaving it because no other reviews mentioned the kind of service I needed and to note my experience: I've come to William exclusively for sword sharpening. You'll find plenty of knife sharpening services (of varying quality) in any city, but swords are a different animal from kitchen knives. My first sword, William did an incredibly excellent job, leaving it paper-cutting sharp and it cuts like a dream. My second sword was where William's work really stood out. The sword I brought in didn't have great blade geometry. It had a flat generally lenticular blade geometry that William noted would not provide great cutting capacity. I just told him to do his best and whatever he was able to. Imagine my shock and delight when I picked up my sword and saw he was able to provide the sword with a meticulous, wide, uniform secondary bevel around the entire edge. I mean like an actual quality secondary bevel, not a tiny, fragile secondary bevel you'd get from your weird cousin going to town on your sword with an Accusharp in his garage. The entire thing is razor sharp and meticulously sharpened, with no unevenness or chipping. All for an incredibly fair price as well! When you have an expensive Albion or Motohara that you chose to buy instead of a down payment for your house, you need to go to someone who knows what they're doing. With normal knife sharpeners, they might treat your sword's edge like a kitchen knife, which it is not. WIlliam understands how swords, sword blade geometry, and sword use work and will ensure your sword gets the treatment it deserves. So, if you're one of the few weirdos who's into swords or other historical arms in the Bay Area looking for a sharpening service you can trust, William's your guy. I brought in a pair of sewing scissors to be repaired and sharpened and William did an amazing job. I had previously brought them to a different sharpening place because they had stopped cutting well after I accidentally dropped them. This other knife sharpener told me they were not fixable because the problem was that the screw was too loose even at its tightest due to poor product quality. They were a decent quality Japanese pair and had worked perfectly fine before, so I was skeptical and looked for a second opinion. When William inspected them, he quickly identified the issue as being a slightly bent blade causing problems with the tension. He was able to restore the bent blade and sharpen an area that had been dulled by the drop, leaving them good as new within the hour! I was very happy, as I had been worried I wouldn't be able to fix these special scissors I bought when I lived in Japan.
