I bought a gift card for a relative. Found out they don't deliver to our state. They will not refund the gift card. Seems there are many states they don't deliver to. This should be a common problem and they should be refunding people they do not serve and/or they should be putting that information clearly in front of you before taking your money. Winc actually asked me to leave a review even though I had cancelled my membership, so I added a star just in recognition of their willingness to be honest, I guess. I can't say my review is based on any of their wine. I never received any. I placed an order that was supposed to be for a free first box of wine where I only had to pay S&H and tax. Instead, what I was charged was my total minus a flat $39. So, before anything else, there's some really bad false advertising going on with their referral codes. Still, just over $20 for 4 bottles of wine delivered to my home via Fedex in a few business days still sounded pretty good. Then I realized after 4 days that I didn't even have a tracking number yet and my order was still showing as "committed." I went digging into the help files to try to decipher their shipment statuses, and found buried there a not that orders are currently delayed by up to 5 additional business days because of the pandemic. Now, I totally get there being a delay. What I don't get is why this wasn't made clear when the order was made. Most if not all legit companies that are impacted in this way - and there are MANY! - have disclaimers saying as much usually on their front page, if not on every page. I tweeted out that I was concerned about this lack of transparency, and all I got back was an explanation that orders were delayed due to the pandemic. Not one bit of acknowledgment about how they are hiding this. On the plus side, it only took one email and an overnight response to cancel my order and membership, and to get a full refund issued. read more

I don't drink wine very often. When I do it's usually white and sparkling. My husband, on the other hand, loves a good red. I mostly tried this service for him. I have no complaints. Everything arrived on time and at a great price. We've only gotten through about half the wines, which were all very much enjoyed. Since I don't drink very often, I had skipped a few months. Worried I'd forget and let way too many credits pile up, I contemplated canceling for a while. I was a bit reluctant because I did like the service for occasional deliveries. I spoke to a rep who was very kind and offered (didn't push) to adjust my subscription to every 3 months. This worked for me so I went ahead. Very good service so far. A big win is that customer service is excellent. That's a VERY important thing to me with subscription services. It's why I'd ultimately choose one over the other. I'm glad there was an option for the VERY occasional wine drinker, such as myself. read more

Usually I get repeats of the same wines every month, or multiples of the same wine within a single delivery. The membership cancelation process is predatory. I don't know what happened to this company, but what happened this last month is unacceptable. First we have been members since 2017 and have had no issues up until now. I placed an order then see that instead of the 3rd it's now the 14th, and never received an email ( inbox nor in junk) re the change of date. In speaking with customer service they said that they would push the order and the next one will be Nov in which I agreed to keep the 14th. Then on Oct 20th an email was received saying that an order was placed. An order was never placed and they placed it with PayPal and I never authorized this order. Nor do I ever pay with PayPal. So this is not only fraudulent to place an order that is unauthorized but illegal. Trying for several days to reach customer service and finally got someone who said that a refund would be applied and the error was due to a "system migration". I don't care about your system migration. I care that you charged me for an unauthorized order and charged PayPal that is never used. Where do you think it's ok to charge for an unauthorized order? I'm still waiting on a reply to my several emails from 10/21. This is not good business practice. So, I guess it makes sense they filed for bankruptcy and were bailed out by some other company-which their business practice is no better and shady. Beware, do not commit to subscription service. Placed my first order on 3/20 because a co-worker had sent promo of $22 off. Pretty good that i could get 1st four bottles for $32. However, they are clearly not ready for covid orders because 1) it took forever to ship to me (over 3 weeks) and 2) their selection of wines is absolutely terrible. It must be picked over due to demand. I ordered a few different of my favorite varieties like pinot noir and zins but when it came time to ship and finalize they were sold out of the wines I picked in advanced AND they only had cheap Cabs and blends left to choose from. Now I have to figure out how to cancel which i hear is pain. Definitely avoid this wine subscription. read more

Prices are good but the biggest issues are that A) shipping is pricey and B) you have to sign for the shipment which is not ideal for someone who works and lives in a home that has no building manager/concierge to sign for the shipment. First off, we want you to know you're able to Skip A Month anytime, unlimited, free of charge. Unfortunately, we are unable to process account cancellations via email. If skipping isn't the best solution for you, we still definitely advise you to go ahead and skip this order in case you're not able to speak with us right away. For all cancel inquiries, we love for you to contact us via Facebook Messenger, Live Chat, or Phone so we can make sure to address all aspects of your issue and get it fully resolved together. I dont want to skip a month, I want to CANCEL completely. There is no live chat option on the website and I don't use facebook messenger. What a crock of shit this customer service is. They don't Email you to tell you they're about to charge your card. You can't just cancel from their site. They force you to contact them to cancel. I asked to cancel after being unexpectedly charged and they canceled, kept my money, applied it as credits and then told me in order to use the credits I had to reactivate my subscription. Totally unscrupulous behavior for a company. They should have sent me the wine I paid for and still canceled my subscription as I requested. Don't bother, find an alternative that offers actual customer service. When PA liquor stores shut down, we thought we'd try Winc. Apparently so did everybody else and they got slammed. It was totally understandable and even though our wine was quite delayed and we never got an expected update on shipping (by the time they replied to our inquiry several days after we asked, the wine arrived, THEN they told us, "It's arriving today!") The "membership" and "credits" stuff is just a masquerade on what is essentially OK wine with restaurant markups. Picking bottles and getting to the cart only to have it barf and say "sorry, we're sold out!" is annoying. The fact that we ran out of wine and wanted to place a new order? Not possible, seems you have to wait until your monthly renewal, which seems kind of silly. Ultimately, we need to cancel as this isn't going to work for us, even if they eventually get their operation sorted out in this coronavirus environment. Like many services of their ilk, they make it very difficult and inconvenient to cancel. Their website says to "live chat them during business hours" but there is no live chat option available. I text them, but nobody responds. Not cool. I understand we're still in the midst of a global pandemic and "getting my wine" is not even in the top million in the list of most important things in the world right now, but Winc stinks. read more

Book version: I'll start off by saying I did cancel my membership, BUT I love this company, want to support them as much as possible, and really don't see why so many people are giving 1 star reviews and saying it's impossible to cancel -- because it's not. There IS a live chat option (really not that hard to find I might add...) and they won't badger you if you really do want to cancel. Mine probably took no longer than a 5 minute conversation, and it's easy to start it up again if you wanted to down the road. This subscription is definitely for those who love red wines, usually on the drier side, with the occasional white or sweet. Unfortunately thats just not my palate (hence the 4/5 stars). The two times I did get a monthly order from them though, I'll say I really did enjoy their wine. I've had my Winc wine box subscription for about 3-4 months now and I really enjoy it. I'm personally a huge fan of subscription boxes in general. It's like sending yourself a Christmas present every month. I also love that it delivers right to your house or in my case office. No need to have to stop at the store and search for new wine options. I feel like every box I get I typically like all of the flavors and it forces me to try new things. The pricing is right in line with typical grocery store prices and the customer service team is quick and friendly! Winc wine subscription was a wonderful experience. I ordered my wine on June 16th and received my wine on June 18th. That was amazing and quick. I enjoyed the test prior to choosing my wines. They were close to what I typically enjoy. I would suggest being strategic on the test. I like sweet wines and I knew that prior to the test, so I answered with the idea to get wines I would enjoy. It is a great way to explore new wines without going to a wine tasting or your typically wine stores. I have never seen these wine's before but Im happy Winc allowed me to explore new wine options. I discovered Winc through Heartbeat and I love the convenience of having wine delivered right to my door. I took a flavor profile quiz that matched my first box perfectly to my wine preferences (I primarily drink red wines and I drink rosé in the summer. Nothing was too dry or too sweet, just how I like it). The designs of the bottles were adorable and aesthetically pleasing so I will definitely be keeping the empty ones as decorations. I love how Winc is environmentally responsible, the box and packaging the bottles came in was biodegradable so you don't have to worry about excess plastic waste. I'm surprised to find such low ratings for Winc on Yelp because they have been nothing but great with me. Service has always been top-notch and you can't beat getting wine delivered to your door. It's the perfect service for someone who loves trying new wines and is way too lazy to go buy that many at a store. I live in SF, don't have a car and can't carry more than 2 bottles of wine, so coming home and getting my package is amazing. I've gotten several boxes and turned a few friends onto it, and we all agree it's a great service to have. You're always taking a chance when trying a wine you've never had which makes the process of tasting and exploring wines that much more fun. I'm more of a Sauvignon Blanc, Pinto Grigio or Rosé girl and they have a wonderful selection. But I've also had some delicious jammy pinots noirs, and spicy syrahs. Overall, great service. Can be pricey at times but in SF, wine cost about that much anyway, so it's not really like I'm spending that much more to get it delivered. My boyfriend and I order our first box to try and the taste was so bland that we tried to encourage our friends to take it off our hands. We then tried to cancel our subscription and instead our account defaulted to a pause for one month and sent us another box the next month!! This time with only 3 bottles for $55!!! The wine from Winc is worth $8 a bottle maximum, and that's if you have no taste buds. We are never ordering from here again. This is my first wine based subscription and I have to say I really did enjoy there wines there are some things I think they could do better such as including tasting cards and or more visual tasting cards on the website making things a little more interactive but no reason to receive less than 5 stars. There customer service team I had to contact once but they were super helpful in assisting me and quick to respond. To be clear this is a subscription service and I was under the impression they would curate every wine box I received. That's something I was a little disappointed with as well. I don usually write reviews but I have to say, this has been one of the worst experiences I've had. I used Club W/Winc and the last bottle they sent me broke as I was opening it, cutting my thump. I had to go to the doctor given the severity of what happened and when I told Winc, they did not give me a refund, or covered my expenses. Instead they asked me to sent them back the bottles I had (paying for shipping myself) and they would refund what they received. I do believe this is an awful service with cheap and dangerous wine bottles that are not worth the risk. I would not recommend this to anyone. read more

As per their article here: https://support.winc.com/hc/en-us/articles/223279247-Who-can-accept-a-shipment-from-Winc- "Further customize your delivery details (including scheduling a delivery date/time or delivering to another address*), you can sign up for FedEx's Delivery Manager to make those arrangements." THIS IS NOT TRUE, which means that if you cannot sign for the package the first time, you will either have to make yourself available at 4-hour intervals or add another errand to your day by going to you local FedEx, line up, sign and pick up the package there. Awful customer service. Spent time arguing with them to then have them tell me that their website and support teams have been wrong and they were misleading customers. Too bad.
