She plopped two sandwiches on the counter and told me she got a pork and a ham from Boda. I hadn't been to this joint so I got a little giddy. I corrected her after inspecting the sandwiches, saying that they're actually banh mis. No big deal. She doesn't know better. I went for the pork banh mi first because the meat levels on the ham seemed low. I dug in and immediately saw the Chinese/Vietnamese crossover. The flavors of the pork were leaning more towards east asian. I scarfed that down and moved on to the ham, and was a little disappointed on the meat to bread ratio, which I vocalized to Martha. She told me "it was only $7 -- you get what you pay for!". I took back my comment. $7 is a good price for what they gave. Martha and I gave each other a kiss after eating. She leaned back and smiled and in-between those pearly whites was a hefty piece of cilantro. She wanted to make love, but I told her we should brush our teeth first. The next day I woke up hungover and in a pool of sweat. I looked over and Martha was gone, then glanced at the clock and saw it was noon. yikes. After we made love the night prior, I decided to go to Marcelino's and tie one on with my pal Bob. Worth it though the heatwave ain't making my life easy. The good thing is -- no cooking; and what's fresh in my mind from last night's dinner? -- A Boda banh mi. I walked over in a tank, shorts, and flops. Upon walking in, I was blasted by their cool AC. I felt alive. In line, I looked over one of their paper menus and couldn't find the banh mi. Luckily, the woman in front of me asked if she can get the pork sandwich. I thought that must be what I had last night, although I know it's a banh mi. She then went on to ask if she can get double meat, which I immediately thought to be a good idea. I thought about asking the man if I can get a banh mi, but didn't want to look like a complete fool, not knowing if they prefer calling it a sandwich. The man stared at me with a blank expression, which meant I was next in line. "Make that two pork sandwiches -- double meat!" I replied. It was $11 and mighty delicious.

My husband's family said they used to eat here all the time growing up and that it was just ok... and honestly, that's exactly how it felt, if not a little worse. We got 5 specials, a grilled pork sandwich, plus kung pao chicken and orange chicken, and it came out to just under $100. The bread was probably the biggest letdown, it tasted stale, super airy, and kind of flaky in a not-good way. The cold cuts were sliced sooo thin that nothing really stood out. Everything just tasted really forgettable. The only plus side was the lady who picked up the phone, she was so nice and honestly such a pleasure to talk to. Definitely wouldn't go back, especially with so many better banh mi spots around.

It was getting late, so while I waited for the kid in the car at their activity, I went on The Heights website found an order form and placed an order for some sammies all in 5 minutes. I didn't even ask the hubs or the vegetarian kid what they wanted. I went with what I thought they'd like. 15-minutes later, I was picking the sandwiches up at the walk-in only shop. There was no line and better yet, they were wrapped up and ready to go when I walked in. The smiling lady asked if I wanted napkins or utensils. They have case after case of cold drinks so we picked out a couple of drinks, paid for those and left. It was easy and fast. Enjoyed the yumminess at home. I normally would save a half for another meal but my "Pasadena" hit the spot that I finished it up all at once. Quality bread, meats, cheese, fillings aka all the ingredients...to boot! PS the kid loved theirs and so did the hub. Thanks for making dinner: easy and delicious! There are no pictures because it was too delicious to take the time out and take any. Just order.

I ended up coming back a little after 1 PM to wait for pickup, and decided to grab something to eat while I killed time. The space itself is really nice, especially the spacious outdoor patio, which made it a comfortable spot to hang out for a bit. I also appreciated the little self-service water station, organized utensils readily available, and restroom keys accessible for customers, which made everything feel easy and convenient. I ordered a BLT on sourdough (no tomato), and the cashier was super polite and friendly, my transaction was quick and smooth. My food came out pretty fast too, which I was definitely grateful for because I was starving at that point. The sandwich itself was solid and hit the spot, and I was pleasantly surprised they added avocado. That said, while it satisfied my hunger, there wasn't anything particularly memorable about the flavor. It leaned a bit on the bland side, and for the price, it's not something I'd necessarily go out of my way to order again. Sandwich shops in general aren't really my go-to, but I did notice a steady flow of customers coming in and out, so they're clearly doing something right. They also offer a variety of breakfast burritos that looked pretty good, so I'd be interested in trying those next time especially if you're looking for an early, quick breakfast option. Overall, I appreciated having a comfortable place to sit, eat, and wait while my pets were being taken care of. A solid, convenient stop when you need it.

The owner, Arianna, caters to her customers and makes everything from scratch! The veggie sandwich on homemade focaccia is my favorite, and the Dolce de Leche loaf is my perfect mildly sweet go-to. I came here during their soft opening, I came back after they retooled their menu a little bit and then again just recently. Initially they were just serving bread, muffins and cookies. Then they added miniature pot pies and changed up the selection and decor a little bit. Recently they added sandwiches. The people working here all seem very nice and I hate to say that I'm just not a huge fan of their offerings. I've tried several breads, a sandwich, a cookie and a muffin and all of them left me unimpressed. All of the "sweet treats" tasted like multigrain health food items and not enough of a treat. The sandwich bread was the best, but overall it wasn't amazing and I just don't see myself choosing to eat here again when there are so many amazing options right here.
