First off let me say cash only! Parking is plenty because it's in a corner plaza. I went on a Thursday at 5:30am. Most places that's when donuts are freshly made but this place wasn't that way. I got a dozen almond cookies and a dozen donut holes for 6$. I have to be honest and I feel bad for saying this, but they tasted pretty old. I actually didn't finish my donut holes. The almond cookies were good! Also the variety of choice was a bit scarce for donuts. The guy behind the counter was helpful and was fast in the service. The atmosphere of the place was well... kinda not the cleanest I've seen before. But it had people coming in and out while I was there, so it was a place that kept busy. I have to be honest, I don't think I'll be stopping by next time I'm in the area. Reason for the stars is that the guy was nice, family run, and plenty of parking. read more

Cute mom and pop shop in a small plaza. They've got a variety of your standard donuts, plus muffins and almond cookies. I stopped in here just to pick up some donuts for a friend. Half dozen donuts is $4.25 and a half dozen almond cookies were just $1! Crazy amazing prices here. The almond cookies were nice and buttery flaky with a light sweetness, yummy! My friend reported the donuts were good. The cashier, whom I assume is the owner was friendly, and we briefly bonded over our shared Cambodian-Chinese American heritage. Accidentally took the wrong bus route and was delighted and relieved when I found this donut shop on the corner that I stopped at. The owner was kind and saw that I kept looking back to see if the bus was coming. He then said I'll watch it out for you as I was putting cream and sugar in my coffee. Needless to say everything was good I got on my bus headed to work delicious coffee and glaze donut. Thank you to the manager. This is long overdue. read more

I went in early on a weekday morning. They still had a variety of donuts they looked fresh they taste good I bought them for my team at work. Not a really sweet there glaze was nice you know how sometimes there's nasty glaze out there so it was a good glaze. These donuts are delicious. I am not a big donut guy but when I get that sudden crave I head on to Big Jims for their chocolate donuts. I honestly rather eat a donut here than krispy kream. I've been coming here for years and sometimes buy for events and they always seem to disappear. Price is good about .90 a donut. They are very friendly and I believe it's open 24hrs. Not only that but they are honest, today I went in and dropped $20 and I was already in my car leaving when the lady flagged me down. LOOOVE this place (wouldn't be duchess if i didn't - LOL) Grabbing coffee early in the morning is the best (mostly because it's being brewed and quite fresh) from the donut holes to the croissants everything is delish. Yes, there are the egg, ham and cheese sandwiches for about $4!! They're a very generous size and oooh so good. Their ice cream and iced drinks are just as good. Jimmy is awesome, he's like the Tazmanian devil - taking orders, chatting up the customers in Spanish, charging in what seems like one swoop. Once you become a regular *ahem* Jimmy will have what you want on the table just as soon as you walk in. I think the one thing that has perplexed me the most since moving to Los Angeles is the plethora of doughnut shops that seem to populate every street corner. I mean, how is one to choose?? While I don't have the answer to that question, I can assure you that Big Jim's Donuts will supply you with the satisfying insulin spike you are craving along with a few other hidden goodies. The first thing you'll notice when walking in is that the overhead menu seems a bit disorganized. While it's not impossible to figure things out, it was a slight annoyance that had to be noted. However, your attention will be immediately drawn to the vast array of doughy goodies. Most of the standards are present and as expected, they taste as good as they look. All the doughnuts I've tried were quite rich and decadent but to be fair, I don't think I've ever bitten into a doughnut and not been on the verge of tears. So on the doughnut side, we have no stars lost. However, there are two other Big Jim offerings that compelled me to give 4 stars instead of 3. The first is their croissant ham cheese and egg sandwich. Other than a very buttery, crisp croissant, I can't put my finger on what makes this sandwich so good but at 7 in the morning when your stomach is rumbling and you just need something to satisfy you, this is your savior. Everything just tastes so well together and they even offer it with jalapenos if you want a little kick. Just make sure you ask him to microwave it cause I had it cold once and suffice it to say, I died a little inside. The second is ice cream. It might not be kosher to eat ice cream in the morning but when they offer a large cup (and I mean pretty large, not those dinky "large" cups you get at ice cream chains) for $2.50, certain traditions and social laws must be broken. The ice cream itself is nothing really special (I think it might be dreyers or some general ice cream brand) but the fact that they give you so much for so little is a huge plus in my book. And when you rip up a doughnut and mix it in with the ice cream . . . forget about it. This is a nice family owned business that faithfully serves the Boyle Heights area and deserves a little love. Overall the staff are very friendly. They are attentive and make sure you're taken care of even when there are a lot of people around. Just be sure to bring cash because plastic will do you no good here. read more

OK, not the finest donuts I've ever had, but they are really decent. That's all I ask. Decent, not crap. LA donuts are the best, and these are quality, even compared to the other Big Jim's. Overall, the donut situation in LA is OK. There used to be more shops, but there are still a lot, the old ones are hanging in there, adding sandwiches and stuff. Whittier is like a time capsule of old businesses. Eastside donuts are doing OK. SGV so-so. I hope they can withstand the waves of gentrification. We've already been through the Krispy Kreme nonsense, and I hear that Dunkin Donuts is moving in. We already have pretty awesome donuts, and don't need these lame chains to wipe out the little shops. read more

big jims have an abundance selection of doughnuts and blended drinks! from Apple fitter to caramel blends. they also have breakfast croissantwiches. its open 24/7 everyday any time. the bad part about it is that its smacked right in the ghetto with bums and stuff. read more
