Great view. Mediocre food. Uninspired menu. Burger ordered medium rare (closer to rare) came out well done. Sent back and came out well done again. Manager's hostile "apology" was that they had "16 people just come into the restaurant". We were there at 6pm and ordered long before their arrival - nearly empty restaurant at the time. It's so bad when the manager makes a meal go from bad to worse. Pasta dish was as dry as wallpaper paste. Just plain stupid to make people walk all the way around the exterior of the restaurant only to walk them all the way back if they are dining inside. Bottom line. Go for a drink and the view. Order with caution. Oh, our waiter was extremely congenial. He felt bad about our experience - we felt bad for him. read more

We came in today for brunch. It was amazing.. Mimi the bar tender makes a mean Bloody Mary '.. this is the 3rd time we have come here in recent months .. the food service and the staff have been great and consistently fabulous. The Chef certainly loves to cook because everything was fantastic - our baked claims, shrimp tacos and wicked chicken sandwich - delicious!! And if you there on a Sunday for brunch, the lobster roll special is also very good. Sandra was our Server last night - super friendly, great service and always checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed, even before we asked for something! Katrina the Manager is also great - always checking on the guests to see if they need anything, super friendly and working with the Servers to help out where needed - #teamwork! My Favorite Place to go on our boat trips!!!!! and now I have more reasons! Im absolutely blown away by the service (manager) @ the Windamere. We came in by boat and were staying for 4 days. I forgot my swimming shorts.. As we were having drinks the manager asked if there is anything she could do for us. My wife jokingly said; "Yes - you can get my husband swimming shorts so he can go in the pool". She said; "no problem!!! I'll have a pair tomorrow what size do you wear?" We kept explaining it was just a joke, but she insisted it wouldn't be a problem. The next day she had swim shorts waiting..... I was able to enjoy the pool with my family. I can't tell you how much better she made our vacation! Food, drinks, service and ambiance are amazing; The manager is beyond kind and I'll never forget her compassion to my situation!!! read more

Could not have picked a more picturesque setting. The venue hosts a pool, dock and restaurant. We sat at the patio watching the boats return at sunset. We started off with drinks... a strawberry frosé, beautifully presented and delicious. I had the scallops with couscous, excellent and my daughter had the clam bucatini... she loved it. My son asked his girlfriend to marry him here at the dock. About 25 of us were hiding. She said yes and we then had a fabulous dinner. I have never had such a delicious tuna steak before. Well be coming back for sure. The managers and wait staff were super professional and attentive. Usually a big group like ours is hard on the kitchen and service staff. Not at all here. Went to Windamere last week and was totally disappointed. Sat down for a nice meal with friends that came in from Nassau County. We were rushed by the waitress for our order, not like the place was busy, three other tables were occupied. Our friends had a question about a wedding there and the waitress said the manager would have to answer that. He came over a few minutes later like we were bothering him and never got the question answered. The food and drink were very good. The topping of the night was the ice-cold coffee served to us, when we wnt to complain she stated "don't tell me it's cold". She then brought out a second round which was lukewarm. We found this place on Yelp as we were looking for a cute brunch place on Valentine's Day. The restaurant had tables spaced out so everyone was safe. All servers were wearing masks and everything was very clean. They even had live music! The singer and pianist were in their own area so as to safely provide the restaurant with music. What a refreshing sound! The food was a-mazing!! The fish was so fresh and everything was done beautifully. So happy we found this place! read more

Our party of 4 came at 6:30 on a Sunday night really wanting to like this place. The view is lovely and the setting was really pleasant. Sadly our experience was poor. One member of our party ordered a steak which came covered in hot chiles (not mentioned on the menu) and badly spiced. After one bite he ordered another dish but never got to try it as it didn't come out from the kitchen until nearly 40 minutes later and by then we were ready to leave. This was likely because our server, rather than do his job, struck up a conversation with diners a few tables away and remained chatting with them the whole evening. Further, while the restaurant was nearly empty, the music (heavy metal, at that) was pumped up to a level where we couldn't hear our own conversation. There were plenty of idle staff waiting around doing nothing, despite numerous requests to turn the music down a bit. Aside from that the other meals were honestly not worth the money we paid. Portions were a bit on the small side, and the overall quality was not that good. We won't be coming back. read more

We went to Windamere today after visiting farm stands. We were in Mattituck and wanted someplace on the water to have dinner and went to Yelp. I had their chowder chock full of clams and the flounder special (delish). My wife had the burrata salad with tomato and peaches. Service was great. Christie, the hostess, was very gracious in putting up with us changing tables to avoid the sun. The ambiance was just what we needed. A view of the inlet and marina. Our waitress Sabrina, saved the day. We came here for brunch and she was excellent. Unfortunately, the kitchen staff do not know how to cook a steak. I ordered flank steak and was given a shell steak that was supposed to be medium rare. It was well done. I sent it back And again was given a shell steak this time severely undercooked it was black and blue but I ate it anyway. Two things: if you don't know how to cook a steak, don't serve steak. Secondly, if you run out of the advertised steak (in this case flank steak) don't serve a different steak unless you tell the customer that you have run out of the item on the menu. The manager was very kind and comped my brunch. This was not her fault. It is definitely a kitchen issue. The location and atmosphere is great, on the water at Strong's Marina. They had live music which was enjoyable and not intrusive. Staff was friendly. Our server was attentive at first, but disappeared at the end of the meal and I had to go hunt down our check. Also water was never offered or brought, while other tables got carafes Ingredients appear to be sourced from local farms and vendors, which is a plus. Appetizers were decent. Clam chowder was flavorful and had large chunks of clam, but was served lukewarm. Baked clams were good. A vegetable infused hummus was the highlight, it was a different take and tasted great. I had shrimp scampi. The shrimp and pasta were cooked properly, but the sauce was bland and severely under seasoned and was overpowered by citrus. I understand chefs not putting salt and pepper on the table in order to control flavor, but if you're going to do that you have to ensure that the food is seasoned adequately. My partner had the duck; it was also under seasoned and was overcooked. The vegetables that came with it were good, however. Our third party had the lobster roll - it was very good and had a healthy serving of lobster. A key lime tart desert tasted freshly made and had a proper mix of sweet and tart. So: Atmosphere - 4 stars Service - 3 stars Apps - 3 stars Entree - 2 stars Overall an uneven experience. The setting is so nice we will give it another try and hopefully have a better experience. read more

We attended Windamere's Wine Dinner yesterday which featured selections from Bedell Cellars and it was spectacular. The setting is so nice and the recent makeover pushes the overall experience over the top. The five course dinner was innovative and delicious. The courses were perfectly paired with the Bedell wines and a nice touch was having Richard Olsen-Harbich there to expertly describe each wine and how it was chosen for each course. Their staff was very professional and very pleasant from the moment we were greeted by the hostess to the moment we left. Food, decor and service were all top flight. Their regular menu looks terrific too and I'd highly recommend Windamere to anyone! read more

First and last visit for us. We went on a Saturday evening at 7pm and the outside restaurant was not overly busy. The waitress Jess was wonderful, but that was one of the only few positives. Lobster Bisque was tasty and a large serving, but it was barely warm. A chicken sandwich and chicken salad were both good, but the burger was overcooked, medium well instead of medium rare, and a pasta dish requested with shrimp added came without it and was cold. Jess and the manager were wonderful handling the issues, and the two affected meals were removed from the bill. It was also rather comical watching the wait staff running around delivering food with no idea what table to bring it to and bringing a second bisque to our table 20 minutes after the first. Granted it's early in the season and the staff is not up to speed, but that's not a valid excuse for the kitchen being unable to provide proper meals for the high prices. read more

I really wanted to love this place. Its such a beautiful location. We went for an early dinner on Sunday and sat in the tent, which was nice. However, so so noisy. It took 20 minutes before the waitress arrived to take our order. And, didn't tell us about the specials until we asked her the next time she came by which was another 10 minutes. The food was delicious and well prepared. However, the service was severely lacking. There were runners snatching up unfinished plates of food one minute, then leaving empty dishes at the table for 20 minutes. They definitely have a lot to work on in the service end, we'd go back for the food and atmosphere. Hope they get their act together. read more

Awful! Absolutely awful! I don't know how a restaurant runs out of bread and butter but somehow they did. They also ran out of multiple items on the menu. They got multiple orders wrong and then still charged us for the mistake. They need to go back to restaurant school 101 and learn how to run a business. This would be a good place for Gordon Ramsey to come and show them how to run their business. The worst part is that we go out to eat all the time and we are local. Big mistake because word travels quick. Perhaps the city people will put up with the poor dining experience but we won't! read more

My husband and I belong to Strongs Water Club and have eaten at Windamere two saturday evenings in a row. The food is delicious.Everything we have ordered so far has been right on the mark. The view is so beautiful that you don't mind if you have to wait for your food. When it comes to the table oh so worth waiting for. Let's face it nowadays you have to wait everywhere you go. The only reason I am giving Windamere 2 stars is because of the atmosphere and the friendly staff. First we sat at the bar for happy hour, the cocktails were not good at all. It took forever to get our food and when we finally received it the eggs were totally raw, my husbands eggs had no yolks, the Canadian bacon was over cooked and dry. The only thing edible was the potatoes. Bloody Mary had so much horseradish it wasn't drinkable. Took forever for our waiter to come to our table so I could exchange it for something else. This is our second time trying it but our first visit was for lunch and we had the same issues. Food terrible and extremely long wait time. So unfortunate because the setting is so beautiful!
