After dining at Winslow's Wine Cafe Friday night, I invented a new rating system to measure how good a desert is: Deserts will now be rated on a scale of, "1 to Chocolate Nemesis." Believe me, Chocolate Nemesis may be the best desert ever. I lie not. We got to meet the new chef, Briana (I hope I have spelled her name correctly), who is the inventor of Chocolate Nemesis and was very impressed by this young lady's passion for great food. She told us of the small farms she drives to in order to find just the right fruits and other ingredients for her dishes. She is currently on a quest to find the best honey comb and I can't wait to find out what she turns that into. In addition to the food, I also want to praise the port we ordered with our food. It was an outstanding desert wine that went very well with our food. The staff and service were exceptional and the atmosphere is both cozy and comfortable. Winslow's is a very, very nice neighborhood restaurant located near the arts district on Camp Bowie. The perfect place to go after attending a play or a concert. read more

What a disappointment! Talk about rude and terrible customer service this restaurant is top of the list. My wife and I went for dinner and ended up leaving because of the managers terrible attitude! When we walked in we waited for the hostess who was on the phone and was actually the manager to even acknowledge us. We ask for a quite table she then took off with the menus and dropped them on a table that was in one busiest areas of the restaurant then went back and got on the phone. Considering that we were about to spend a good amount of money we asked for the open table in the back corner where it was quieter. The manager then said the table was not available for us. My wife told her we have been coming to this restaurant for years we don't want the table you gave us can't help us out. She said, we're busy! My wife said you have been rude and won't try to help us find a suitable table. Her comment, " I don't care! We left and won't go back! Next time you go out, don't waist your time going to Winslow's there are many good restaurants in Fort Worth that would love to have your business! read more

Came to Winslow's on a Wednesday and looking at the wine list, struggled not to just leave after perusing it briefly, but didn't want to embarrass myself or my date by coming off as a wine snob. I should have though when the glass my date ordered wasn't even available at the time. Either way, we sat at the bar and placed wine orders with the bartender. I settled for a Joel Gott Zinfandel, $10. I've had it before and don't find it off putting or anything, but it was the only comparably priced glass I could find that I knew was decent. My date got the Napa Cellars Merlot for $12. To describe the Merlot, let's just say I wasn't tremendously impressed with it when they were tasting it at World Market and selling for $10.99 per bottle, nor was my date impressed with it at the counter. This seemed to be a common theme throughout their menu: Overpriced by the glass to try and make sales for the overpriced by the bottle selection. The selection of by the glass was very limited in varietal choices for a 'wine cafe' where the focus should be wine. There are a couple of the big boy offerings such as cabernet sauvignon, merlot, pinot noir... but if you want a glass of syrah, you get one choice. Same with Chianti, limited blend selections, no boutique European wines, no high end by the glass wine, just very disappointing. The value of the wine menu seems to be hopefully created by selling inferior wines by the glass and overpricing the decent wines. Now, to describe why the list is overpriced, let's look at three wines in particular: Trefethen Cabernet, Silver Oak Alexander Valley, and Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay. Trefethen is well known in the wine community, and those that do purchasing in the community right now will note that the current vintages are on sale to clear room for their next release. The bottle retails at worst around $25 at the restaurant's cost, however the wine list price is $75. Close to a 300% markup Next up is Silver Oak Alexander Valley- hard to find this wine for over $105 around town. Hell, Ruth's Chris has it for $88 if you're feeling froggy. The thing is, this is the lesser of the two Silver Oak labels, and while even being the lesser of a well established vineyard and a good one at that, it doesn't justify charging $125 for it just because of the name. No value at all. Take a look at a white by the glass offering for instance: Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay. A staple chardonnay on any steakhouse menu, $15 per glass falls into around what others would charge. However, $56 per bottle!? That's a 373% markup! Where's the value on purchasing a bottle? Roughly four glasses of wine in a bottle, depending on who is pouring, so I save 27% on four glasses or 6.75% each glass if I were to buy a bottle. There's no incentive. The whole menu is essentially 350-400% markup from by the glass to the bottle, and 300% on just by the bottle offerings. *The bottle of Napa Cellars Merlot that I mentioned World Market had for $10.99 is on the list for $48!!!!!!! I truly couldn't find one wine that I felt was a value buy on the whole menu. Service at the bar needed help. We were the only two sitting at the bar with the bartender and he literally said nothing to us. Took our order, poured, had us pay out. All things aside, it looked like a slightly healthier pour than most locations, but I feel the glassware design was playing tricks on me. Gorgeous Italian glassware, but very heavy and thick walled, giving the illusion that there is more in your glass by eyesight and feel than there really is. I digress. Anyway, the bartender never even asked us how the wine was, what we do, where we were from, offered to discuss the wine menu... nothing. Just spent time with his back to us, cleaning the beer tap tray. He should have been paying attention to the fact that his open bottle of Prosecco la Lunetta wasn't plugged or properly stored in the wine cooler below him, and that the effervescence was slowly escaping the bottle since it was simply left open. Back to the beer tap thing though... Nice selection of beer and small selection of top shelf liquor, but just do one thing and do it right. Its a wine cafe. Someone entering should be coming in for wine and that should be the focus. I guess it helps bolster sales, but takes space from being able to truly provide additional by the glass offerings that people are coming in for. We didn't try any of the food, so I won't speculate here, but any menu that has enchiladas, lobster ravioli, tacos, braised short ribs, and is very eclectic to say the least. Several years ago, Winslow's was one of my favorite spots in Fort Worth. So it pains me to report that I am now deleting my original review (a former Review of the Day, no less) because it is no longer accurate. I cannot in good conscience mislead my fellow Yelpers! Based on a recent visit, I must report that Winslow's Wine Cafe has lost its sparkle. For starters, it appears their menu has not changed one iota in years. This seems strange in our era of eating with the seasons and locally sourced ingredients. The capper, though, was my $16 glass of Pinot Noir served at room temperature (around 72 degrees). Just do a quick google search and you'll find the ideal temp to be about 55 degrees. (I would even have been happy with 60.) Now, I don't want to come across as a wine snob here (I might be), but I do refuse to drink a $16 glass of warm Pinot Noir. The bartender's solution was to hand off a chilled glass for me to transfer my own wine into. FAIL! I beg your pardon, but shouldn't a restaurant with the word WINE in its name know how to serve vino properly? Especially a relatively expensive glass of delicate Pinot Noir. You sure know how to break a girl's heart, Winslow. I'll pass. read more

I used to love Winslow's. They had great food and a good wine selection. Patio is great when the weather permits. I was terribly disappointed in my last visit (9/13/15). We started with a margherita pizza and it came out only slightly warm and very hard. Could hardly bite or cut through it. When I went to take the first bite off of my plate I saw a black hair on the plate. They did offer another small appetizer to make up for it but they didn't really apologize or offer to replace all of our plates to be sure we all had clean ones. Kind of ruined our appetites. Also, be forewarned that the happy hour drink specials are one type of wine, one beer and one martini. So if you don't like that wine, you pay full price for any other wine during happy hour. Also, I have had the crab cake there before and it is TINY for $15. I much prefer Eddie V's for excellent service and a great wine selection. They have fantastic happy hour appetizers, including a huge, delicious crab cake for less than $15. read more

Our 2nd time for brunch was such a disappointment. I had Avocado Toast that looked and tasted like store bought guacamole on top of sandwich bread purchased from Albertsons. The scrambled egg was perfectly cooked and the coffee was good but I could have fixed, and presented, a better plate at home. My husband had a breakfast taco (I think...this was 2 weeks ago and his plate was not memorable) that he said was too greasy. We like the interior and the wait staff is always dependable but the food wasn't worth our visit. read more

Not a great wine selection, overpriced and a lack of support of other local, natural food and wine sources were disappointing. With a great neighborhood location just down Camp Bowie Blvd from the Museum District, Winslow's food and atmosphere are tasty and chic but lack a true local feel in terms of selection. Plus a $22 cheese board that I could have put together at home was ridiculous. Go down the road to Times Ten Cellars off 7th for local, well-made wine, a $10 cheese plate and an equally chic relaxing atmosphere for a better wine sipping experience. Wells, premiums, and "howling at the moon' martinis are all $2 off during HH too. Bottles of wine 30% off all day Tuesday and Sunday. Rez needed some nights and I also olde english yelp the patio fire. Eight beers are on tap and none of em are bud, miller, or coors. Every price point on a pure bred selection of wine and one of the two lead bartenders is a sommelier. Sniff the other 55 reviews for other food thoughts, they are mostly accurate, and give the cheese board, pasta, filets, scallops, and shrimp a try. And , take a look at the wine club membership if you can drop by once a month or so. It offers a wine and appetizer tasting on first Mondays, two nice bottles of wine, and 10% off all food purchases. Good service and ambiance with valet parking underneath the porte cochere. Also, has a great bottomless brunch. if you're single, over the age of thirty, and are looking for man's TRUE best friend some of Fort Worth's finest well bred women frequent the place. They have a great Happy Hour menu food and drink wise but service has always been hit or miss. Mostly miss. It's very close to home for me so I still go often but I really wish they would get some consistency with the servers. The patio is superb and I love the firepits! We have gone to Winslow's multiple times for dinner and drinks and have had a great time. Today we decided to go for brunch and it felt like a completely different restaurant. We were seated immediately therefore not an overcrowded situation. We then ordered coffees, an appetizer, and our meals all at once. We had to beg for our coffee and when it came 1 was missing (and we didn't get it until we asked for our checks even though the "new pot is brewing and will only be a few minutes"). We then get our food and had to wait about 10 minutes for Utensils even though we asked EVERY server who walked by for some help. We each got a side of fruit and yet again only came to the table. We we reminded our server we were missing the appetizer and a coffee and fruit. We then had to remind him what we ordered to start because it was not put into the ordering system. As someone who worked in food service, I try so hard to give grace especially when a restaurant looks busy but there is only so much you can let slide before the niceties run out. When it gets that bad, it stops being a server issue and starts becoming a management one. It was really disappointing to see a restaurant we truly enjoy have such bad service and have it ruin the brunch experience. read more

Came here with a friend for brunch on Sunday and it was our first time visiting this place and I was very please with the service! This Place is small and intimate, patio was full inside not so much...my only complaint was there was water dripping from the AC vents above our table my friend got a few drops on her but we managed to move our table over a little so no big deal. My girlfriends and I were very excited to have our girls night at this establishment! unfortunately, the service and management were horrible! We will not be returning to this establishment. Long awaited dinner out with my mom was a disappointment. Dance club music was playing loud on a Sunday at 6:30 pm. Should have been a sign. The wine was very good. Good appetizers. Then dinner came. I ordered medium and it was well done. My steak was gray. Once our server came to check on us, she quickly took it back to the kitchen mind you my mom was almost finished with her meal. While mom was finishing dessert my redo steak came out. Gray again. I was so embarrassed for the server, manager and chef. Seriously. When the manager saw the second steak he was mortified. We went here with a group of 14 moms/daughters to celebrate moms weekend. We were seated in a cool private dining room off the bar area. It appeared we were going to have a nice evening, and then our waiter showed up. His first comment was "we're really busy so we may not have enough wine glasses for your group, I'll go see what I can do." What? This place is a wine bar...short on wine glasses!? He returned with wine glasses and took our drink orders. There were two bottles of white, a bottle of champagne and then individual glasses of red wine ordered. He never offered to pour more wine and did not chill any of the bottles of white wine or champagne. I'm still perplexed they call this a wine bar. I could go on and on about how poor the service was, but I don't want to belabor the situation; trust me though, things never got better. The most frustrating part of the evening was when they brought the checks and had included a 20% gratuity. Guess there was no need for the waiter to give us appropriate service, he knew he was making 20% regardless. The ironic thing about our evening is that the food was delicious. The presentation, portions and quality of everything was undeniably wonderful. I feel bad for the talented kitchen staff who has to bear the brunt of poor reviews due to the dining room staff; so hats off to the kitchen! My daughter and I had the smoked salmon bruschetta; a fabulous appetizer. We then shared a Greek salad and the chorizo pizza, which proved to be sufficient for the two of us, and quite tasty! I certainly won't be back anytime soon. To add insult to injury, our daughters had been there with a large group a few weeks prior to our visit and had the same unacceptable service. They were hopeful that when they brought their moms that they may be treated with more respect, but it didn't happen. I hope that they will soon figure out that customer service is the most important factor when creating a new restaurant. read more

This is a charming wine cafe off camp Bowie's brick road. My first experience was awesome. We went on a Sunday afternoon to continue Sunday funday after brunch and ordered a bottle of wine, a cappuccino and a side of fruit (random combination, but it hit the spot). The wine list isn't huge, but they have a great variety of types as well as price range. The bartender waited on us since we sat on the couch in the bar/lounge area. He was incredibly attentive, friendly and funny. One of the bar tables next to us struck up a conversation then ended up sitting with us, so we ordered a bottle of Dom Perignon (there is always a reason to celebrate, right?). Our first experience was fantastic, so me made sure to visit again in the near future for food. Our second experience we just as good as the first. I went with my husband and a friend from out of town for brunch. Thankfully we weren't up too early, because we happened to walk in four minutes after they opened at 10:30 AM. Two upbeat employees greeted us upon entering and told us to sit wherever we liked. We chose it sit near the back corner close to the brick oven fireplace. Our waitress came out from the back within seconds and handed us menus. We each ordered cappuccinos and water to start. And btw their cappuccinos are excellent. The brunch menu is filled with delicious options making it difficult to choose. I got the Cowtown tacos recommended by our waitress while the other two ordered eggs Benedict (my husband ordered the steak and the other got the Canadian bacon). When our food came out, we were all presently surprised as each dish embodied a delectable presentation. To top it all off, the food was amazing. My tacos were overflowing with brisket,eggs and potato. The salsa on the side was spicy enough to give it a kick but not overwhelming so your mouth caught on fire. The two guys devoured their Benedict's without saying much so I can only assume they were as satisfied as me. My two experiences have been great- once for brunch and once for drinks. Now I just have to visit for dinner to complete my overall dining experience at Winslow's to see if they deserve the final star. read more

This is my favorite place in Fort Worth. We go pretty religiously every Sunday even though a few of us moved to Dallas. Best brunch atmosphere you could ask for and the service is top notch (Jason!), but the Jim Bowie, Cowtown tacos, eggs Benedict and bottomless mimosas keep us coming back for more. Every Sunday.
