After a long day at the beach, this classic diner hit the spot. The portions were huge, and they have an amazing variety of breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner options. Pretty much anything you could possibly want was on that menu. The wait staff was kind, and the place had a nice farmhouse still. My only concern was the fact that this place is pricey. Wisdom Diner is what I'm looking for in a quintessential American diner. Having gotten slightly off-course enroute from NYC to Cape May, we chanced upon this little diner and decided to drop by for lunch. Walking in past the counter you'll see a smaller dining room on the left with table seating and a larger space on the front and right encompassing a diner counter with seating, booths along the walls and table seating in the middle. Walls are decorated with motivational sayings--words of wisdom--if you will. Extensive menu of everything from breakfast, brunch, lunch, snacks, dinner, dessert. You are spoilt for choice, though a lot of the various options are variations on a theme or slightly different ingredients. My friend and I ordered eggs with sausage, and I had a Western omelette. Loved the hash that came with my omelette--chunky but with crispy parts. The servings were huge and neither of us could finish each plate. Each bite reminded me of a hearty homestyle meal. Service was friendly but not overbearing, my friend and I had a pleasant time chatting at our corner booth at around 12:30-1:30pm on a Saturday, never felt rushed. It was also not too crowded, maybe 50% full when we came and 20% full when we left. If we were in the area I wouldn't hesitate to come eat here again. They have a daily lunch and dinner special menu as well as the regular menu... The last time I was here I had the fish and chips and I substituted sweet potato fries instead of regular fries... When driving through New Jersey, the wise traveler will make a point to stop at a New Jersey diner. As far as diners go, Wisdom Diner is a smart call. Personally, I like my diners a little dingier and less expensive, but we're picking nits here. The service was efficient and friendly. In fact, at one point the waitress read my mind. Or at least she predicted that I wanted my home fries well done. That's the only way to fly. For my meal, I wanted the most New Jersey thing I could think of, so I had a pork roll, egg, and cheese sandwich on a hard roll. The only thing that would be more New Jersey would be to ask for it with saltpepperketchup, but I just can't get on board with ketchup on pork roll. The meat was well browned on the griddle, and cleverly sandwiched between layers of american cheese. Oddly, Wisdom uses yellow versus white cheese. Maybe there is a geographic NJ divide. Next time I'll have to remember to ask for the roll toasted or grilled, because that would be the only thing one could do to improve upon this classic. The fried eggs on the sandwich were perfect. You know what else was perfect? My daughter's chocolate chip pancake. Instead of putting the chips in the pancake, they were placed on top. The heat radiating from the tender pancake below, was enough to make the chocolate spreadable as a decadent layer over the top of the dish. Wow. The wife ordered an omelet with mushrooms and cheese. As much as I love diners, diner omelets always leave me flat. Those thin, rolled omelets just aren't for me. But she loved it. Her home fries weren't ordered well done, and were a shade less dark and crispy than mine. My son got the scrambled eggs and sausage patties, and was very happy with his food. He's a little bit of a scrambled egg snob, so that's high praise. Other observations? When I asked for hot sauce, it was Tabasco and not Frank's. Ketchup bottles were neither Heinz nor Hunts, but some lesser brand. Syrup was pancake syrup and not true maple. I can't recall if real maple is available for an additional fee. The side order of bacon could have been crispier, so adjust your order accordingly. read more

After a trip to check out some waterfalls on a rainy Saturday we stopped by here on our way back to our hotel. Since we had our dog with us we ordered take out to take back to our hotel which I placed on site. I ordered the Hot Turkey Platter with mashed potatoes and corn and hubby got a Chicken Caesar Wrap. Both were very good and large portions, I actually had enough left over for another meal. The only things I didn't care for was that with my meal you only get the soup or salad if you eat in the restaurant but yet you charge the same price as eat in (perhaps to offset the carryout containers ???) and also I was rather surprised at the rather small amount of side dish and dessert, options, especially for a diner. My mom and I (on a trip North from MD) stopped in for a late breakfast. Some local men standing out front opened the door for us. We were then greeted and seated by a man with a beautiful smile and knew we picked the right place to eat. The pancakes and bacon were great and my omelette didn't disappoint. The only issue we had was that the bathroom is very small and it was difficult for my mom to get in and out of it. The door actually hits the toilet seat. They reuse the plastic ketchup bottles, which is a health code violation and it also makes me think "what else are they cutting corners in?" I regards to the food and service- they are both great! Gotta try the split pea soup when they have it. The motif of the place is pretty cool. It's called the "Wisdom" diner because they put little inspiration pieces of wisdom and positivity on the walls. If you are in the area I would try this place, but if they still keep reusing ketchup bottles, you need to say something to them. Have been visiting the area for a week; is the ONLY place I'll go for breakfast or lunch (there's many other diners around). The entire staff is tremendous, attentive, humorous & never skips a beat. Food is freshly cooked arrives always swiftly. Ambiance is a quaint town values mixed with modern day traditions. Decor is hysterically funny if you look around all over, I believe one of the artists is part of the family or family friend. The owner & family are incredibly warm, welcoming. The establishment is run like a fine tuned machine! Cleanliness is awesome. I've met people who travel a great distance just to come here, travelers who are just as happy with Wisdom Diner as me & people who have been coming for generations. Huge portions and great service. I had the chicken parm, with split pea soup (had little taste to it-- go with the chicken noodle instead! Dad did, before his steak, and it was just as you would want it) and salad with oil/vin.). We had been driving for 9 hours and were famished, and going right off the turnpike brought us to Wisdom. Dad's steak was pretty good-- we weren't expecting anything fancy-- and my chicken parm hit the spot. But what I really liked was the service. Our waitress was bubbly and attentive, as was the one helping other guests, from what I saw. I assume most diners off the turnpike get a lot of travelers, driving long distances, and kind service goes a long way! The ambience and decor are also nicer than your typical greasy-spoon diner. The wait is a little long, but the diner was at 80% capacity, and we were happy to let rush-hour traffic pass us by as we waited for our food :) I recommend Wisdom! read more

Holiday travel can be stressful, and finding a "comfort food" meal on the road nourishes body AND spirit. So when our schedule had us on the highways Christmas Eve day, we were lucky enough to seek a break right when we neared Wisdom. Smart move on our part, as we found two delightful platefuls of food and a welcoming vibe from very friendly staffers. "Better Days Benedict" is what they called my meal, a take on eggs Benedict that swaps in homemade hash for the usual Canadian bacon. It was tasty, from the delightfully crispy English muffin base that held up well, to the softly poached eggs that were expertly timed. I might favor a lighter Hollandaise usually, but this version worked for today. My beau adventured to a new world with cornbread French toast...delicate yet definitely a new breakfast category. The bite I had was flavorful enough I sorta wished he'd offered me a second forkful! I wanna like this place, I really do. As a vegetarian, it's disappointing. I've been here twice. The first time I got the tropical blintz and my friend got an omelet wrap. She loved the wrap and it was really full, but I got four small blintzes with as much fruit as blintz. For nearly $10, I still super hungry and ended up having to make a second breakfast. A few days ago, I decided to try a vegetarian wrap, and again, $10 and left hungry. The wrap was super wet as the mushrooms weren't left to drain (anyone who's cooked mushroom knows how much moisture they give off when cooked). The flavor was good, just no concern given to it.
