Granted, most diners lack ambience and this place is no exception. Although they are in the middle of some renovations. I have been coming to this place since I was a kid and it never dissapoints. This is a classic place my family always has to stop at when they come to visit. Definetly recomend. The only negative things have to say about this place is that it is a bit cramed and the servers are hard to get a hold of. When they stop by your table, they are extremely friendly and they're always so welcoming. Going here feels so comfortable, even when I first started coming. The Wisdom Diner is precisely what you want it to be: a clean, fast, and friendly diner that's dirt cheap but just tasty enough to warrant trying out. This place is basically your cookie-cutter small town NJ/NY diner, except maybe a hair cleaner than most. The decor is a bit too 90s and antiquated, even though it appears new, the clientele is ridiculously elderly, and the place mats advertise everything from the local funeral home to the local church. It's not fine dining by any stretch, but the rock-bottom prices and fast-and-friendly-but-but-efficient service reflect that. I tried a small portion of the pancakes, some eggs, and some sausage when driving up to NY recently, and I was pleasantly surprised. The eggs and sausage were remarkably savory and perfectly cooked - basically all I can ask for. The pancakes were superb - fluffy, hot, and slightly glutenous, reflecting some mad skills by the cook. Nothing was over- or under-cooked, and it all came out ridiculously fast - I'm sure it's harder to achieve that when the place is packed, but for what I had, it was great. Wisdom Diner! A random stop on a road trip from NYC to Washington, DC. We were hungry, we pulled off the road, and we found you. The parking lot was almost crowded so we said it must be good. We stepped inside and was promptly seated. Haaa old diner feels. I love it. Old diner prices, even better, especially coming from NYC where eggs and toast can run you $10. The waitress was amazing, she was very knowledgeable of the menu and just plain ole happy. The food came quickly and it was sooooo satisfying! I was excited to see the lot full but to be seated immediately. We had great service with drinks immediately. However, our wait time was over thirty minutes for 2 adults and 2 kids, thats a bit long for my taste. We didn't get refills on our water promptly, however that isn't killing the 5th star. The fifth star isn't there because it was just okay food. They get four stars instead of three because of their "Diet section", I was very happy to see this. I got a pretty much deconstructed BLT, it came with three hard boiled cut up eggs, four pieces of crispy bacon, a whole tomato cut up, lettuce pieces and kalmata olives, you can't get something like this too many places. The menu is overwhelming, there are just so many options. They have the "grill cheese factory" which totally was up my alley. You can build your own grilled cheese, I will come back here to try one, although it seemed it was a one cheese type of sandwich as you only choose between american or swiss (i think) cheeses, i like the multi cheese ones. The fact you can add bacon, tomato and other things to it makes it great. Try it out you may find something amazing, i'm unsure as what the "come here to get" items are. read more

Important things first, the food was good. Ice Cream Soda was a pleasant surprise, and the coffee was great. I didn't expect the pizza to not be circle, but that's not a bother to me. Now, to the not so good. The wait time for food/service was high. It was only me and my little brother, so didn't expect it to take ~45min for the food to arrive. There were what seemed to be 3 or 4 waiters. The one who serviced us two seemed to not want to be there. Might just be me, but a waitress's smile and bright attitude makes the dining experience a million times better. In conclusion, would I go there again? Maybe, but when there are less people in the diner. The food is why I'm giving this 2 stars. Without it, it would've been a solid 1 star. On a side note: there seemed to be a waiter in training during my visit. Looked excited to be working, which brought a smile to my face, but it seemed he was being rushed to clean and put dishes away while the other staff just.. stood there. Ok this is my second time at wisdom diner, the first time the experience was satisfactory just another ordinary diner. The second was a debocal. I went because my sisters family took me. I ordered onion, mushroom, swiss, egg white omelette. What came out was normal yellow omelette. In had it sent back and sometime later a pepper and onion egg white came out. No mushrooms no cheese. I sent it back and had it taken off bill. I understand mistakes happen. But not twice and no waitress apology. Again second time there and really nothing special about it. I won't return. read more

I can understand the appeal of a "Mom and Pop" cozy establishment which this may have but they do little to keep it that way. The dirty dishes are kept in plain sight right as u come in and the FLOOR IS ATROCIOUS. I have never seen a diner with such lack of care for their floor. There was garbage everywhere. We were there for an hour and no one swept. Food: it's ok. Hard to mess up diner food. Little under seasoned for my taste but I guess it got the job done. Service: Friendly and fast. Decor: Bad. Visited Wisdom Diner with some friends for a weekend brunch. We really enjoyed our breakfasts and the quality and portion sizes were quite what you would expect for a Jersey diner. I've been to Wisdom Diner several times and have never had a problem so I won't base my review on one spacey, short server who, frankly, needs to check the attitude. She arrived at our table with not a word, pen poised to take our order. I still have no idea what her name is. I'm assuming she's the boss's daughter and this is how she still has a job ... The food is always consistently good. This particular breakfast I had the short stack of chocolate chip pancakes. They were great, if a little overdone with chocolate. I never thought that statement would come out of my mouth (via keyboard) but I actually had to scrape some of the chips off the top of the pancakes to even be able to taste some pancake. I'm sure that was just this particular chef being overzealous with the sugar. My fiance had the asparagus omelet which he said was very good. We split a side of very crisp bacon (which is how we love it). Our waitress disappeared after she plunked down our dishes so there were no coffee refills ... she's lucky we're softhearted so she still received a decent tip. We can't help ourselves ... We just randomly stopped in here for breakfast because we were starving on our ride home from Delaware. My boyfriend said it was possibly the best omelette he ever had. I went here for the first time on Friday night (1-2-15) with my boyfriend. I live in Bordentown so we decided to try it. I got blueberry pancakes, well-done bacon, and decaf coffee. The pancakes were very good--golden brown and had a lot of blueberries. They were served with a cup of soft, real butter, and syrup of course. The bacon was well done and tasty. My boyfriend got a bacon/cheddar omelette which came with home fries and toast. He said it was also good. The server was ok. She was pleasant enough but not overly friendly. She was a little slow and kept disappearing. The place was pretty dead for a Friday night so I guess she was in the back a lot. Based on the above, we would have returned to this diner since it's close by and the food was good. However, the hostess or whoever sat us (she had long blonde hair) and took the check when my boyfriend paid was not at all friendly. She took his money and did not say a word to him. She did not ask how everything was or even say "Thank you"! so we won't go back to the Wisdom Diner. We will instead go to Broad St. Diner where everyone is always friendly! This is a great little diner! The decor is a lot nicer than your greasy spoon diner. Food was plentiful! Entrees come with a small side salad that was fresh and not iceberg lettuce which was a nice change. Entrees also come with a cup of soup. My choice was the Manhattan clam chowder and it did not disappoint; tasty and homemade. As soon as I saw Opa! on the front door, I knew they had Greek food, and had high hopes. Unfortunately, the moussaka... well, if this was a test, it would get a C-. The Greek salad was fairly good though, if drowning in oil, and the toppings outnumbered the lettuce. Spinach eggdrop soup was delicious, but a touch too salty. Chicken and rice and Manhattan clam chowders got fairly positive ratings. They give you a (large) bowl if you don't want a salad with your soup, both of which come with entrees. Speaking of, the garden and Caesar salads were all very good too, fresh ingredients, etc. As for the other entrees, the chicken scampi and linguini "matched some of the best I've ever had" and the chicken parm was delicious. Both were diner-sized. The chop steak was very dry, and a NY (round? don't remember) was unevenly cooked, but still mostly good. Fries and onion rings +1. Drinks are expensive and only the only drink at our table that got free refills was coffee. Get ice water, at least after your first drink- the waitress was kind enough to inform us before asking. Desserts: mint chocolate chip ice cream and cheesecake with blueberry topping. Family seemed to enjoy the ice cream, but seemed to have tiny ice crystals in it that only I noticed. Food storage problem? Also in my cheesecake, which was... possibly one of the worst cheesecakes I've ever had. Cold, not very creamy or fluffy, and oddly tasteless. Topping was good though. Guidance counselor's office decor, nice enough employees. After reading the other reviews I was hoping for more, but perhaps I simply ordered the wrong things on the menu, since most everyone enjoyed their food... it happens sometimes. Friendlier than most diners. Greek salad is a good value. The "floundie" (flounder stuffed with spinach and feta) literally made me sick to my stomach. Not open late. About the name: Like many diner's, Wisdom is run by Greek Americans justifiably proud of the wisdom of their ancient philosophers. The staff T-shirts say "Wisdom - makes sense to me". Since their renovation earlier this year the walls have been festooned with posters with lite philosophical aphorisms. read more

I went here twice on my New Jersey adventure and I have to say that I was very pleased. The first time, I had the Veal Parm plate and it was pretty darn good. The French Onion Soup I got with it was really good, and the veal was perfectly cooked, though there was a bit too much marinara. It was very tasty, though very simply presented. THe service was OK. The next afternoon I headed over for the Pizza Burger for lunch and it was pretty amazing. Thick and tasty and pretty amazing. I had the French Onion soup again and it was fantastic again!
