Very disappointing given all the rave reviews - more of a 3.5, but leaning 3 for me. This is wannabe NY pizza, and it's not a bad impression, but the crust was more burned than thin and crispy, and the cheese slice didn't leave much of an impression on flavor. The mushroom truffle pizza, on the other hand, did, but not in a good way - I'm a vegetarian who isn't a fan of the taste of meat (no Impossible or Beyond for me, thanks), and maybe the blend of goat, mozzarella, and parmigiano cheeses, as well as the truffle oil, was just too decadent in its umami-ness for me, my initial reaction was "this tastes like meat." My partner said the mushroom pizza was still better than the vegan one, so I'm glad I didn't try that, but it sounds like the best choice would have been margherita, since he really liked that slice. Apparently, the prices are reasonable for pizza these days, but memories of Brooklyn pizza 30 years ago, (tastier AND cheaper) make this more than I'd want to spend for a meal in DC. read more

Disappointing. The pizza itself was pretty decent, especially the Grandfather. Chicken paneer masala didn't really taste like it sounds, but I guess it still had good flavor. Pizza crust was crispy, which was a win. Mushroom truffle was my favorite though What really knocked it down was absolutely terrible service. Normally I don't care too much about "great service" when it comes to these types of joints, but if it makes it hard to enjoy the food regardless, then that's when it's a problem. - sign says there are nuts in the chicken tikka, so I asked if there was peanuts (with someone with a peanut allergy). And they could not understand the question. "It has vegetables. So you don't want?" - the communal Parmesan was out, so I asked to get it refilled for the multiple people waiting. There were 5 staff just standing around doing nothing and they handed it to one person. They make a good pizza, but I wish that they had a plain vegan slice instead of/in addition to the vegan supreme. I wasn't a fan of sausage and peppers on my pizza before I went vegan, and I'm still not a fan now that I am vegan. My tour de pizza continues. I parked the car on 4th st and called my order in, make your own with pepperoni. 20-25 minutes. I walk in and observe the 6 ft rule, the line is moving quick, lots of people picking up orders. I pay, grab my pizza and am in the car. Smells so good....I planned to have a slice or two while it was still hot. It comes out really hot so give it a few...ok. On the plate....definitely thin and crispy. The dough is obviously fresh and the sauce is made in the store. Tangy, fresh tomato taste. The pepperoni is the good pepperoni with the orange grease. The mozzarella is perfectly cooked and it melds well with the rest of the ingredients. This stuff is incredible. Reminds me of a place we used to go when I was a kid in NY. Definitely a repeat place. I'm not recommending this pizza place for anyone who doesn't like spicy food. A lot of their flavor options are spicy and the few that aren't, still have tomato sauce which they make it a tad spicy (with a kick). In a word, it's pretty much impossible to get a pizza that can be flavorful and not spicy at all. I suppose this is a way for Wiseguy Pizza to stand out among competition - but it doesn't impress me when I can find better places that make better dough, fresher tasting ingredients (as in, I can taste the actual ingredients rather than it being camouflaged in spiciness), and at a good price. Stopped by on Saturday night around midnight on a friend's recommendation and was pleasantly surprised to see how busy the place was! Despite a lot of people in line, they moved quickly and efficiently and the folks behind the counter were very friendly. Slices are big and very reasonably priced around $4.50. they have a ton of unique flavors such as a Korean BBQ pizza and chicken tikka masala! I chose a veggie option with hot peppers and absolutely loved it. The garlic knots are also rumored to be great but I didn't have a chance to try them. There are tables inside and outside to sit at while you eat, but it's more of a grab and go place. The decor is cute and to the point! Surely someone is being a 'wiseguy' and pulling my leg, right? THIS is the best pizza? No. Just no. I should've known just by looking at the pictures. I told my husband, "the pictures do not look appetizing. A lot of the slices look dry or overly oily on others". Go with your gut. I'm probably going to make a lot of people (based on the reviews) gasp, but this was probably one of the WORST pizza joints I've ever stopped at; and I know good pizza! I've eaten at hundreds of different pizza shops from dives to fancy, all across the United States, from NYC to Chicago to California (I've even ordered pizza in Paris, France), from small towns to big cities, and this...this is not good pizza. The atmosphere is small, but cozy and hip. I like the vibe. And it does in fact give you a New York feel (yes I've had pizza in the Big Apple). The slices are pretty massive, they have a wide variety of strange toppings that you generally wouldn't order on pizza (maybe that's the appeal?) Personally, I'm just a basic 'pepperoni and cheese' kinda gal. When I get fancy, I might go Hawaiian or Supreme, but nothing really out there. My crust was flimsy, just soaked in grease, the grease was literally running down my arm as I tried to grab it up for a bite. Not a lot of sauce, but that was okay since the sauce was rancid tasting. Nothing great about the taste of the pepperoni. The cheese was possibly the highlight, but even that was nothing to brag about. There was absolutely nothing that I liked about this pizza at all. This was my first visit to Wiseguys and OMG the pizza was incredible! I ordered a slice of Godfather - pepperoni and sausage, and it was one of the best pizzas I've tasted. The bold flavors, hint of spice, and the crust. The crust was perfect - flavorful, soft and chewy but crunchy (but still foldable) on the bottom. Just perfection. The restaurant is small (indoor and outdoor seating) and designed more for takeout. Staff was friendly and kind when I stood in awe of all the pizza options. You order a slice, they throw it in the oven for a few, and you're on your way. I am thankful I don't live around the corner. Honestly I'm surprised I didn't like this place better. The grandma was ok, a little on the dry side. The chicken park was chunky. There wasn't a lot of seating inside (maybe ~15ppl tops & less with social distancing) so plan ahead for takeout. I sat outside and an employee ended up rolling a loaded garbage can next to my table. It didn't make sense. I was also approached by a homeless man. My recommendation would be to try the Navy Yard location perhaps and get it earlier in the day so it's fresh. read more

I was unsure of what to get and the business owner (I think who he was) politely approached and helped me decide "the godfather pizza" and "Nashville chicken pizza" which I loved. HORRENDOUS service, unimpressive food. Delivery took 2 hours for a restaurant ONE MILE away (original estimation for 1 hour). A driver wasn't event assigned until 30 minutes after delivery estimate. Called Wiseguy, and they blamed it on drivers. Thompson has no way to contact directly and they are responsible for contracting delivery services. Can't be the driver's fault if they hadn't even been assigned yet. Terrible system that evades accountability. Pizza arrived cold and soggy. Never again. Not even a little bit worth it. (Thompson, I don't need your PR apology response promising to do better in the future unless it includes a full refund to my original form of payment. I don't live here. We had to check this place out as it was on my friends "go-to" pizza places in DC. The restuarant is pretty popular so it was definitely crowded, but we got served fairly quickly. There was a good range of pizzas that are freshly cooked. Being Indian, we had to try the paneer pizza - it was very satisfying. Mine and her pizza craving was definitely fulfilled. I've had wiseguys a few times, and I think it used to be better but is just sort of ok now. I went this weekend and got a Chicken Paneer Masala slice and chicken bacon ranch slice. The chicken paneer was the better of the two. It was flavorful and had big chunks of chicken. The chicken bacon ranch was ok, nothing special. I hated the crust. It was so hard to eat at times, almost like cardboard?? You really had to sink your teeth in to get a bite. My friend got a cheese slice and a Buffalo chicken slice. The cheese was fine but the Buffalo chicken was off. It had a very strange taste. I think it's from whatever Buffalo sauce they use. It wasn't spicy or hot, just sort of tangy and like buttery or weirdly creamy? It had a strange aftertaste. The service was awful. We came in and stood in line for at least 5-7 minutes, and no one had greeted us or asked for our order. I'd actually never dined in so I wasn't sure where we were supposed to order, so we went to the register and asked to order after waiting. Guy at register said to go back and order at the counter, then that person finally acknowledged us. The vibes were off. I don't think I'm itching to come back here at all, but it's a fine option if you're in a rush and in the area. For 4 slices and 2 bottle sodas we paid about $25, so do with that what you will. I love the variety of Pizza here. You have your standards but then you have paneer Pizza. When I looked at the menu and didn't see a vegan option my heart fell. Then my fiance was looking through the display case and there on the far right side was a vegan Supreme Pizza complete with beyond meatballs! I took away a star bc the Pizza was way to crispy. I like a crispy on the outside and soft doughy on the inside. This is like Pizza on toast. You get a crunchy crust from the middle of of Pizza all the way through the outside. The outside rim of the crust was so dry to me where I'd prefer a chewier crusty rim. At the moment there are only outdoor tables and it definitely isn't a date night spot- just some place to grab a good pizza and chocolate chip cookie. read more

As a huge fan of Indian fusion pizza, Wiseguy definitely has some of the best Paneer Tikka slices. It's a jalapeño sauce with house masala, paneer, mozzarella, onion, tomatoes, green peppers, chili peppers, and cilantro. The base sauce is nice and spicy which really helps bring out all the masala flavors. Each of the toppings fit right into each other. But my favorite part of the experience has to be jalapeño sauce drizzle! It's spice and savor sets it apart from any other paneer slice I've had! The Backyard has tomato base with vegan cheese, green peppers, mushrooms, red onions, chili peppers, spices, and extra virgin olive oil. Overall the slice was okay. I like the special they have; 2 slices of pizza and a coke for about $12. However, the pizza is just ok. I'm a huge pizza person so I literally have a joy and love for pizza and this pizza was a little too crunchy for me, not enough flavor and there was a lot of grease. I got two supreme slices and I can honestly say I've had better. The area to the soda machine was dangerously slippery too, had to catch myself so I wouldn't fall. Well this little gem is awesome, pizza I never even heard of, I had a Nashville hot chicken with Spicy Nashville Hot Sauce, Crispy Chicken, Mozzarella Cheese, House Ranch, Cabbage, yeah I know that's not really pizza, BUT IT WAS GOOD. There is an amazing selection along with the standards I can't wait to return. A really unique treat was the cooler filled with old fashion pops, I had a cream soda, which I have had in years. They had rootbeer and orange pop along with others. It was packed and the crew moved the crowd through very quickly so you had to be ready with what you wanted, overall the service was excellent. it's small inside but there were seats and tables outside so ambiance is just what you would expect in a small pizza shop. Margherita pizza was very good. I got the cauliflower crust, it was very good; it was well done around the edges that weren't covered in toppings - still delicious. The garlic knots were also good, I ordered through uber eats, and the delivery person was walking, so I'm sure they are exceptionally good when they arrive hot or are ordered in house. The marinara sauce was good for dipping, though I thought the garlic knots were better on their own. I also got a piece of red velvet cheesecake; after eating my pizza and garlic knots, I put it in the fridge for the next day. It made an amazing breakfast once I finally got to it, great cake to cheesecake ratio. The serving was enough it took two sittings to finish. Highly recommend! read more
