FOUND A HAIR IN MY FOOD. Disgusting. Disappointed. Unsanitary. I won't be eating there

Sunday, July 14, 2024. Birthdays Celebration dinner. Reservation for 13. Table was ready and waiting as we all started to arrive. Hot tea as well as ice water were brought out as we arrived. We also were offered red wine, white wine, iced tea, or soda. Our Hosts picked the dinner items. Eggrolls which were a nice size crispy outer shell packed with veggies with duck sauce on the side. Seafood soup was delish with a hint of sesame oil. Hot and sour soup was also delish. The chicken and corn soup was amazing with straps of chicken and crisp corn kernels. A whole crispy fried fish in a sweet n sour sauce was huge and fried just right with a nice sauce to coat each serving. Scallops with scallions...never had scallops done this way but, the dish had a nice balance of flavors. Sauteed mixed vegetables was done perfect with the veggies still having a nice bite to them with just enough sauce to coat. Shrimp chow fun...was good with nice chewy noodles. Orange beef with string beans... everyone enjoyed but, was my least fave dish. All dishes came with a nice size bowl of rice. Pineapple and Watermelon to cleanse the palate after the meal with fortune cookies. We ate family Style and had more than enough food. The staff and service was beyond amazing. They allowed us to bring in a cake and we sliced and plated it ourselves. Definitely, a must try if you are in the area. read more

Bar none the absolute WORST Chinese food I've ever eaten in my entire life, let alone on the UES. Although we were warned by a friend to avoid this place, we were walking by and decided to give it a go. I mean, how bad could it be??? We ordered the Sesame Chicken and General Tso's Chicken- similar dishes. BOTH of the chicken dishes were not only fatty (yuck!), but literally had some sort of tough connective tissue between the different sections making you literally needing to spit it out. (I know, sorry for that descriptive detail, but it was disgusting!) The soup, both the wonton soup and the sweat & sour soups were equally horrible. Out families joked that this was the first time in our lives that we actually finished a Chinese take out meal hungrier than when we started! The only good thing was that the food quickly went right into the trash rather into our stomachs saving us loads of unhealthy, almost inedible, trashy carbs. Wok 88... seriously some of the best americanized chinese food I've ever had. Delicious lunch specials, appropriate lunch portions with brown rice substitute-- what's not to love? I've dined in once but I think i eat here weekly after finding out about it. I'm a huge fan of the chicken and broccoli. It is so tasty and covered with the right amount of sauce and grease that it coats the rice and adds a depth of flavor. Had the scallion pancakes which are thick and crispy that come with a nice vinegary soy sauce. My gf loves the bean curd with garlic sauce. Wok 88 is a true gem on the upper east. read more

Meh, I've had better. I see Yelp reviews they are either 1/2 stars or 5 stars. So today I went to try. I can see why people say the food is underseasoned/bland. Chicken Broccoli $15: Certainly lacks flavor. Lacks caramelized soy sauce flavor with aromatics like garlic and ginger. Broccoli on the raw side. I would pay $11. Singapore MeiFun $13: Lacks spicy curry flavor. This dish could be really good but the curry spice is underwhelming. They do give you a good amount of shrimp, chicken, pork. Curry Chicken: watery curry, curry sauce is not thick. Curry flavor is underwhelming. Thinly sliced chicken with diced onion, green peas and carrots. This is more like baby's dish. I would pay $7.50 The good thing is they don't use recycled oil like other Chinese take out. The prices are high and food is not a good value. I won't be a returning customer. read more

The scallion pancake was awesomely crispy and delicious. I got the Ten Ingredient Fried Noodles. Not amazing, but tasty. My date got the sesame chicken, spicy. It definitely had a little spice. It was good. read more

This was a fun lunch experience. Hot tea was served as soon as we sat down and the food was sub $10 per person (including soup or drink). I got the general tso chicken and I was pleased with it. It came with hot and sour soup and hot tea for $9.50. It wasn't the best version of this dish that I have ever had but I had reasonable expectations before my visit. This is important to keep in mind - expectations. The only problem I had was that my girlfriends meal (pepper steak) came out 10-12 minutes before mine. She had already finished the entirety of her meal before I was able to start mine. In the future I hope that this is not the case. read more

Went to lunch today. Was more expensive than your usual ues Chinese takeout but these 2 dishes were really good. Had both the hot black bean pork and the house chicken. Both entrees were really good. I had a wonderful lunchtime experience here! I arrived with my dad and my sister at around 2 PM on a Sunday. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they offered a lunch special menu on a weekend, so we decided to go with that. Each dish comes with a side of rice (white or fried) and an appetizer (soup or egg roll). We had the fried bean curd and vegetable​ dish and the sesame chicken dish (totaling​​ about $20 for both). For starters, the hot and sour soup that came with the combination was really delicious. I don't normally like hot and sour soup because the flavor just isn't too pronounced to me, but this one was the best I've tasted! It was packed with a mix of flavors and had lots of yummy ingredients in it. My sister really enjoyed the egg roll, which was large in portion. The fried bean curd dish was lovely! The garlic sauce they used was plentiful, flavorful AND spicy. I really loved the medley of vegetables included. My dad didn't think the bean curd was particularly fresh, though. The fried rice that came with this combination was delicious. The sesame chicken dish was a hit at the table- the chicken chunks were huge!!! It was covered in a savory, spicy glaze (which surprised me at first- I've never had this spicy before) and lots of sesame seeds. The broccoli with tasted fresh and went along nicely with the abundant sauce. The tea also came promptly once we were seated and was refilled quickly as well. It was quite busy in here with dine-ins and takeout- and given Wok 88's snug space, it seemed even more packed, but the waiters were attentive! Horrendous in every shape and form! Undercooked food, nasty drinks. Terrible food, rude servers who shove the tab to your face as soon as they see you're done eating. I instantly had a stomachache after eating there. Avoid at all costs! read more

VERY tasty Chinese food, with great service and great prices! I came here with two other friends, and amongst the three of us, we ordered three small bowls of wonton soup and two main dishes, and that was plenty of food for us to share. They bring out large portions that are easily shareable, or enough to have leftovers for the next day. The atmosphere is typical of a Chinese food restaurant, and the staff was very attentive and friendly. Better than average Chinese takeout! The portions are huge and prices are really reasonable. I had the chicken lo Meir and everyone in the group agreed that the quality of meat was better than usual takeout. It was a little on the salty side so that's why I won't give it five stars, but all things considered I think it's a top takeout choice for the area. read more

I haven't been in awhile but I heard on the radio that customers have not been patronizing their favorite Chinese restaurants. Wok 88 is one of my favorites so I used the Coronavirus as an excuse to go to Wok 88 and support it. my waiter said they didn't need support and in light of the Coronavirus patronage has not declined one bit. I with every delicious bite I could see why. wasn't disappointed in the least. My Fried Shrimp Appetizer and my Egg Foo Young tasted just as excellent as it did when I first went their decades ago. read more

Came here recently with a friend. We both attended high school in the neighborhood. I was pleasantly surprised that this was still here, and had survived the pandemic. Even more surprised that their menu is relatively the same, and is one of the few surviving Chinese-American restaurants left (different from the authentic Chinese restaurants that are relatively newer). If you're looking for the Chinese-American cuisine of your childhood, try Wok88 out. I don't recall seeing Chop Suey on the menu but they have good sesame noodles, scallion pancakes, and sesame shrimp/or chicken. They also still have Mu Shoo pancakes! read more

It's hard to find good Chinese Food in New York City for some reason. Wok 88 is one of my favorite inexpensive Chinese Restaurants to go to in the city. The interior is pretty dated but the staff is always nice and responsive. I usually like to sit at a table by myself after the gym. My go-to dishes are: Pepper Steak (with brown rice) Basil Chicken (with white rice) Beef with Broccoli (with brown rice) With a side of Won Ton soup. This is not a fancy place but the meals are good and the price is great. read more

This is hands down my favorite Chinese food in New York. I drive from New Jersey to eat here. The food is very fresh and clean. You get 2 free glasses of house wine with your dinner. The restaurant is small and even busy the wait staff isn't the friendliest but the food is outstanding. read more

Very disappointed. I've been wanting to try this place and I finally able to get take out last night. I ordered the shrimp fried rice which was pretty good until I chipped a tooth on a fucking pebble. See attached pic of 2 pieces of rice and 1 pebble. The lunch special here is AMAZING. Soup, tea, and fried rice (rice with select items) for like 9.50. It was so much food I have ridiculous amounts of leftovers (love that). Decent food but over priced. My friend and I were seated quickly in the outdoor shed. Service was prompt. We each had a chicken fish, served family style. Mine was crunchy & spicy, hers sweet and sour. Side order of edamame. Food was cooked properly and tasty. I guess the menu prices are due to its UES location, but I was surprised to see more standard NY Chinese fare priced above $20/entree when in my Brooklyn neighborhood the prices are about half that. read more

Food is very good. We had the dim sum crystal shrimp dumplings, Roast pork buns, and a seafood dinner. The eggplant and chicken is good too. They do use a lot of oil if you want to request light sauce or oil you'll have more than enough still for the rice. read more
