The shining star was the green beans appetizer -- executed perfectly and full of flavor. There are many other authentic places to explore.

The employee described the mutton soak buns dish as a soup soaked pancake which is pretty accurate. It reminds me of a rice porridge but with chopped dough instead of rice. The restroom is in the back through the kitchen which is kinda cool because you can see them rolling out all the round flat bread that they use for the dishes. I'm guessing it's what they use for the rougamo (I've seen it at other Chinese restaurants described as a Chinese hamburger) and the shaanxi soak buns. It almost has a gnocchi type of consistency. It isn't your average fried rice and stir fry type of Chinese restaurant so if you're looking for something like that it might not meet your expectations. I would definitely come back to try other menu items. Also, get the plum juice. It's delicious!

They were truly bouncy in with every bite, silky smooth, tender but with a little bit of bite to them. I went with my husband and a family friend who was visiting, and it was a great setting for catching up. The ambiance strikes a nice balance between polished and comfortable. I especially liked the rich blue tones inside and the overhead lanterns, which give the space a warm, inviting feel. There's also a outdoor patio, though at 96 degrees, we opted to sit inside. I'll admit I didn't do a great job capturing photos, but everything we ordered was excellent. We started with samosas, veg pakora, and beet cutlets (which my husband hadn't had since moving to the U.S. for grad school over a decade ago). We also ordered a mango lassi, the bread basket, malai kofta, balti chicken, and lamb biryani. A few highlights: Portions are generous The spice levels are accurate "medium" and "medium hot" both had a noticeable level of heat, which isn't always the case locally The lamb biryani stood out (my husband said it's the best biriyani he's had in North Carolina) Service was also great. The owner stopped by our table multiple times and was warm and engaging. She even shared how to make a strawberry lassi with our friend, which was a thoughtful touch. One practical note: the restaurant is downtown, and there's a surface parking lot directly next to it that uses ParkMobile, which makes parking straightforward. We're already planning to return.

JJ China Restaurant is a local takeout place, but even when you're considering takeout Chinese restaurants as its own separate category, I've had better! My first visit here I ordered the vegetable fried rice and their beef chow fun. When I initially ate the rice, there was something odd about it. First off, it lacked any sort of flavor and the rice was really starchy. I read another review and they mentioned that they had brown rice that was acting as fried rice. That's exactly how my fried rice felt! Even if it was brown rice, the dish needed seasoning. The beef chow fun was an interesting dish for sure. Again, the flavors weren't exactly developed within the dish. This was also super watered down, there was a pool of sauce at the bottom, along with a bunch of vegetables that took away from the dish. I decided to mix it up when I made some return visits. A Chinese takeout classic is a chicken dish combo. For me, that meant trying their General Tso's chicken. I actually had never had General Tso's before this visit, but it wasn't bad! The chicken had some crisp and some heat. The fried rice was much better, but still nothing mind blowing. I also had to try their Yang Zhou Fried rice. This is the fried rice I always ordered at the other Chinese spot in town, and this one was not even close to being as good. Again, it needed more seasoning! Although I wasn't impressed by JJ China, they have a lot going for them. They're a family business and have been around a long time! People clearly like the food, and it's very affordable to eat here. Service is efficient and you can get in and out in no time at all. Maybe it will be better for you.

Was surprised that they only have 2 options/ specials when we went for lunch on Saturday. There's a thali platter with an assortment of dishes as well as a mini tiffin option with dosa, idli, vada, pongal & a sweet. The tiffin platter was a generous portion. Everything was well made and flavorful. Looking forward to going back to try the other menu options.

Grabbed lunch from here recently and had a great time!…read more First, parking is easy because Afghan Kebab is part of a strip mall. Inside, it was relatively austere, but the seats were very comfy! You order and pay at the counter and then they deliver your food to your table - I'm a fan of this setup because I can leave quickly and not have to wait for the server to give me the check :) It took maybe ~15 minutes to get our food, but it was piping hot and fresh when it arrived. It was so tasty! My wife and I split the Goat Karahi, which came with "two naan bread" (those naan must be huge, because it seemed more like five naan bread to us!) in a separate basket. The goat was flavorful and the sauce was delicious. The naan were fluffy and tasted really good too. The staff were nice and helpful throughout the meal. This will definitely be one of our new lunch spots, and I'm excited to come back!
