A terrible disappointment for our annual summer dinner here. The $12 wedge salad was a small wedge of limp iceberg swimming in half a bottle of salad dressing with two cherry tomatoes and a handful of bacon bits. The waitress took a delicate situation and made it worse by not acknowledging our concern ("It's just the way I described it!") and made it clear for the rest of the meal exactly what she thought of us, thereby ruining our meal. But perhaps it was beyond redemption. Along with the waitress's bad attitude, we never got fresh water, had to ask for silverware, our meals came out at different times and at varying levels of mediocrity (one order of fries was overdone and cold, the other undercooked, for instance) and the waitress kept slapping things down on the table, including, for the finale, the extremely overpriced bill. No crayons in the flowerpots on the table for the kids, no toilet paper in the women's room, no fun at the Wolfe Trap at all. In a town with so many great restaurants there's no reason to risk this one again. Time to find a new annual summer Wolfeboro restaurant. read more

Oh Wolfetrap, how I miss your drunken nights watching meatheads get arrested for peeing off the end of your docks. To this day, I crave the blue plate special of 2004 which included fresh salmon on a bed of pesto pasta. What a great recipe. Their lobster Caesar salad has about three lobster's worth of meat on it. The oysters are shucked fresh at the bar where you can watch if you'd like. The drinks are strong, the bartenders and servers are friendly, and there's always something going on. And the lobster roll? Yeah, it's $22. But I dare you to get one, eat it, and never crave it again. It's amazing. As well as their cornbread. And the desserts... Pie Guy Pies, anyone? The lobster roll has no mayo. the scallop roll consists of fried scallops and the french fries are dry sticks not worth eating. The coleslaw is good, however. Would we come here again? Probably not. Food was only average at best. They brought all the food at once and refused to hold the food in the kitchen because they said they "didn't have room". Service was terrible - although our waitress was great, the manager and all of the other servers were rude. Not a person over college age running this place. We've been here a number of times over the years, and the quality has varied. Reviewing for summer 2012, in which my party went twice, it was lackluster. Small menu, with poor, poor service: all requests on our individual dishes were forgotten, one of us never even got a place setting and was eating salad with her hands. French fries were great one night, cold and soggy the next. Atmosphere is loud, but in a frenetic way. That being said, lobster roll was incredible, and the half pound roll was an absolute steal, I counted three full claws on my plate. Bouillabaisse was good, but not traditional. And yes, they do 'secretly' charge for refills. Its a decent place, and certainly a fine option for seafood in a town that lacks many options. read more

Have grown up eating here and tonight at 8:30 we attempted to come in for dinner while they said they were open until 9. They informed us we could not be seated and they were not taking any more tables. The reason for no table was for a table of 10 entering before us, shutting down the kitchen! Hard to believe in these summer months they couldn't seat a table of 4 at 8:30! We used to enjoy food here but the harsh response we felt will deter us from coming again. read more

We summer in Wolfeboro and always go to the wolf trap. I must say last year and this year (specifically today) the hostess who is always working has a rotten attitude and very rude. She obviously does not like her job and should not be working in this industry. We arrived at 7:25 and was told it's a long wait we have lots of larger parties. We were a party of 5 and would have appreciated an estimated wait time rather than bad attitude. I will not go back fthis reason. read more

Came at 8:15 and they would not seat us with a closing time of 9:00. Been coming here for years and they would not seat us! Yelp says closing time of 11 but they say 9. Upsetting as we love this town! Very embarrassing and shows poor staff and management. They are known for great seafood and we have come other times and loved it so that why I still give em three stars. The Wolfe Trap hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner (100 guests) last weekend. For context, we are west coast (San Francisco) foodies, so we have pretty picky and hard-to-please palates. Jim (the owner) and his staff put together an amazing clam/lobster bake dinner for us. They completely nailed the food, and the service was fantastic! Our guests were raving about many of the dishes, particularly the crab cakes, the raw bar, the grilled lobster, cornbread, and rolled-eggplant (for our vegetarian guests). Also, they had a solid beer and wine selection. The venue was perfect for what we needed - it easily accommodated 100 people, had beautiful scenery, nice outdoor seating options, and a fun bar area. Jim was very professional and accommodating. He worked closely with us to develop the menu, and demonstrated a lot of patience in response to our many changes and special requests. He listened closely to our family's feedback after their tasting and integrated many of our suggestions without hesitation. He was also able to provide guidance on the menu planning when we needed it. Jim and his crew blew away the other rehearsal dinner options that we explored. His prices were much lower, he was nicer, he provided line item pricing which made it easy to hit our budget target, he listened to feedback, and his team nailed the food! I agree with Red H. My girlfriend and I had a wonderful lunch here yesterday. She had the salmon over bed of kale and I had the fish tacos. Both meals were excellent. Fresh fish, cooked well, with deliciously original sides and presentation. I even tasted the kale, and it was great, which I didn't think possible. We and a few other groups filled the too-small outdoor area -- too small because this place should have more room outdoors for people to get here and enjoy this food! Note: fresh fish market next door is always a good sign for a seafood restaurant! ! read more

The fried scallops were delicious! The fish chowder suffered from too many potatoes, and baby shrimp instead of large cut up shrimp. Also, its hard to eat it the way it is served in a mug. A bowl is a better vehicle for soup. The french fries were dry and pretty tasteless. We really liked our waiter Brady, and don't fault him for what was the most rushed meal I've ever had. About 45 seconds after our appetizer and soup was served, the main meal came out. Brady (who did not bring the food out) came over to apologize, stating that the raw bar and soup doesn't come from the kitchen, so the kitchen doesn't know that we had apps before our meal. this seems like a really weird way to run a kitchen. Food was amazing. Oysters were super fresh and local. That's where the good news ends. Service was crap. Walked in to a hostess with super attitude rolling her eyes to seat us. Sat for 15 minutes without so much as a hello from staff, while other tables around us are being served. Had to grab one girls attention to ask who our server was. She ended up taking our table and was super nice. As we leave 4 girls crowded around hostess booth don't even acknowledge us. The hostess was very rude and unprofessional. There was a party of five that walked in before us and they were told "It's going to be a long wait" and when asked "how long " the senior hostess spoke rudely to them rather than just saying there are x number of parties ahead of you. There appeared to be multiple empty tables as well. Needless to say they walked out and we followed. I have never seen a hostess act so rudely to customers. Hopefully she will adjust her attitude so that other customers are not lost....I know I will never go back and from the looks of the party that was ahead of us I doubt they will be returning either. read more

We truly enjoyed our experience at the Wolfe Trap! The service was spectacular and the owner was genuine and attentive to all her customers. We enjoyed the calamari and mussels to start - and the calamari was the best we've ever had! (and we've had a lot of calamari :) We then split the bouillabaisse and loved the seafood and broth. Let's not forget the fabulous view from the deck. We liked pulling into the parking lot and seeing the fresh fish market that is part of the restaurant as well :) read more

This may be the worst run restaurant. Whether the restaurant is empty or full, there is always a 45 minute minimum wait. And what are customers waiting for? Inconsistently prepared food and poor service. You are better off traveling to Portsmouth for good seafood as you can probably make it there and back before you get a table! read more

This is a summer favorite for me to bring out of town visitors for lunch or dinner. I ALWAYS get the lobster roll and it always pleases!! Other dishes look great too but I love the lobster rolls. The only downfall is the wait (at times). You usually have to wait for a table at dinner but you can eat in the bar area. For lunch recently we just walked in and were seated immediately. Waitresses are always polite and accommodating!! I love this local place and always know the season is over when it closes in the fall. read more

I took a friend here for her birthday lunch. She lives in Wolfeboro (I live in Portsmouth), and we wanted a restaurant with convenient parking. The parking lot at Wolftrap was ample. We arrived on the early side of noon and had no trouble getting seated on the lovely deck with its view of the water. The management might want to consider something other than Adirondack chairs for seating, though. We had to perch on the steep end of the seat in order to be able to reach our food! Our waitress was young and friendly, and our drinks arrived promptly. I ordered the Parmesan-crusted haddock, which was served on a bed of fresh steamed spinach with mashed potatoes on the side. The portion was perfect for lunch, beautifully cooked and presented, and the flavors were delicious. My friend, on the other hand, didn't fare so well. She ordered a Caesar salad with grilled shrimp. The salad was fine (served with slivers of Parmesan), though the dressing didn't seem to have been made in the classic way, with anchovies. The big disappointment was that there were only THREE grilled shrimp. This was not false advertising, we just hadn't imagined that they'd be three tiny shrimp! For $8.00, there should be eight shrimp or at least four large ones! Overall, our experience was pleasant, and I know seasonal restaurants have to make their money while the weather's good, but I hope the management will consider that diners need to feel they got good value for their money, too. Shrimp are readily available and inexpensive nowadays, and they could easily be more generous. read more

We came here for dinner. Fried clam appetizer, mixed green salad with side of lobster salad, clam arugula pizza appetizer, and a dozen raw oysters. The food was good. The server was super sweet. Our drinks were good. We had the draft white Belgian beer and the draught grapefruit shandy. I do recommend this place. We sat outside and had a front and center view of the water. We stopped by on a busy Saturday night (6/8/19) and were able to find seats quickly at the bar. The hostess was very friendly and the service was great. The food is AMAZING! We had some raw oysters and a delicious crab cake to start and then the fish tacos and the salmon. Everything was out of this world! Plus the salmon was so large I got to enjoy it the next day for lunch! This is our favorite place to eat in Wolfboro! Great people, food and atmosphere! read more

Friendly staff and good food. What more could you want? Throw in a lakeside view and it jumps over the other in-town places to eat. My husband and I ate there last night. We both bemoaned eating too much when leaving. Why didn't we just get appetizers and drinks? Because we wanted to try everything! My husband had the meaty Maine oysters (and one from Russia with caviar and sour cream), swordfish tacos and raved about them all. He's not a raver. I had a taste of seafood chowder, fried clam roll and "O rings." Big bellies -- how I like them. Clams and rings each fried to perfection. A big win all around! read more

My family had the worst experience with the Wolfetrap this week. I called same day to make a reservation and the woman over the phone told me there was nothing available for the entire day. However, I was able to make a reservation for the next day at 7:00 PM no problem. Today, the day of our dinner reservation, I got a phone call saying that they had mistakenly taken down too many reservations at 7:00 and they were no longer able to seat us. Not only did they not own up to their mistake, but they did not have anything to offer us for the entire day after THEM messing up, not us. My brother called and by some miracle got us seated (for sure they said) at 7:00 as a "special guest" to make sure that nothing happened to our reservation this time around. And then at 4:00, we got a phone call which I missed as I was enjoying the lake. When we called back, they told us they couldn't keep our reservation. I could not be more angry. Not only did they fail to keep our reservation, but after assuring us it wouldn't happen again, we were told we could not come in. This was extremely disappointing as my siblings and I have planned a nice dinner out after being apart for almost 10 months. We will certainly be taking our business elsewhere and will discourage anyone from going here. So unprofessional. read more

While the food is OK, we showed up at 8 o'clock at night on Saturday night and we were literally turned away because the kitchen closes at 9 PM. There was one other couple waiting in their empty tables in the dining room however we were turned away because no one wanted to work past 9 o'clock serving dinner to patrons. How does that even happen? How does that happen on a Saturday night in a resort in the summer? How is it possible that management would've allowed paying customers to walk out the door on a Saturday night before 8 PM when there was one table of patrons waiting, empty tables in the dining room and a full staff??? Giving them a two cuz the lobster sandwich was pretty darn good the first time we ate here ... after waiting 85 minutes because they ( wait for it) stop serving at 9. Watching the staff eat before our food showed up at the table in front of us!!! WTH! read more

Don't like to give less then 4 stars when writing a review, but this location is a three starts at best. The food was good, but way overpriced. The shrimp salad, had. 4 shrimp, for $18. Fried clams are a good choice, so as the seafood chowder. The hosted has us wait for a table even though they had plenty of open table. read more

After a couple of years of really really really horrible food, the food is way better this season, very good actually. However, it's a challenge to get a seat and they randomly close the kitchen. After calling and being told they'd take us in at 7:45pm, they turned us away saying they had already closed the kitchen (in peak season!). Horrible customer service! My family and I placed an order for take-out due to my son was asleep in the car. Within a few minutes after placing the order my son woke up so we decided to eat on the restaurant deck patio instead. I was speechless, when we were DENIED a table and told the tables were for paying customers who eat in. I was dumbfounded that our $64 lunch order for two lobster rolls and a kids sandwich didn't qualify as a "paying" customer!! Keep in mind our food was not ready before we asked to change it to eat in and it would have required little effort to place the meals on a plate rather than in styrofoam containers. There were empty tables on the patio and there was nobody else waiting. I could not believe this response!!! We were offered to eat outside on the boat docks or in the waiting area tables. No thank you!!! We paid for our food but we will never return here!!! Also, the few other times we have dined there it was always under staffed (open tables with long waits)!! Definitely lacking in the customer service and management area!!! read more

Consistently run out of food. I have been there 3 weeks in a row and they never have steamers, even though they told me they get their deliveries on Friday and Mondays. Went again tonight (Monday), no steamers.....no haddock, no swordfish.....waited 90 minutes for a table, ended up leaving due to the fact that most everything our party ordered, the waitress came back to inform us they didn't have.....so pitiful!! Whoever is running this restaurant doesn't seem to have a clue. This is a seasonal restaurant......try to get your act together just for these few summer months!!! read more
