We had lunch at Wong Genghis Khan again and as usual their friendly staff greeted us warmly and our six-person party were seated at a large table. Everyone made their selections at the different parts of the buffet: Chinese, Mongolian BBQ and sushi. Before I say what i'm about to say, I just want to clarify that this is not my first time here but it will be my last. Food here is decent, not great but good and worth the buck you pay for (which is not a lot so I guess you get what you pay for) But after what I saw and experienced today, I will not be coming back. As we were eating lunch, we noticed one of the staff chopping veggies in front of the bar (not inside of the bar) but outside of the bar where everyone walks by. No shield protecting her workspace and also no gloves for this one worker (wearing black in pics), and get this, as she was chopping I saw her drop a couple of mushrooms on the dirty floor.. she looked around, and hurried to pick them back up then CONTINUED TO CHOP THEM... did not throw them out or wash them but put the dropped dirty mushrooms back on her workspace/cutting board. So gross and so unsanitary!!! Come on!!! Then there's another worker (in a jean colored top). Now she wore gloves! BUT did not wear them appropriately. She wore the SAME GLOVES as she sat people down to their table, take peoples order w a paper and pen that came in and out of her pocket, to clean tables handling a dirty rag and cleaner bottle and to serve drinks as she scooped out ice and poured every one's drinks and USED THE SAME GLOVES TO HELP THE OTHER WORKER CHOP THE VEGGIES. This is how people get sick and I wish more employees who decide to work in the food industry are more considerate of other peoples health. You just can't and shouldn't handle food like that. OMG don't go! got there about 4 on a friday - dark, dingy - hostess(?) started to sit us at a table but it hadn't been cleared so she moved us 1 table over - only 1 other table with customers - ordered iced tea then walked back to look at the food and a guy (cook?) standing there doing something and gave me a sideways glance - immediately in front of me was one of the silver containers with 2 - yes, 2 - pieces of ugly dried out breaded prawns in it with a mess of crumbs (from the breading of previous pieces of food? ) - glanced sideways and saw a long silver tray container with something resembling green beans but couldne be sure - needless to say walked out - as we were leaving saw hostess(?) pouring iced tea (in the darkened corner of the entrance) out of a plastic pitcher into glasses - clean? fresh? ugh... read more

Keeping it in prospective, maintaining a buffet price lower than most places now charge for a sandwich or a burger is an admirable trait that seems to be well received by the lunch crowd here. I really didn't expect 5 star food at less than a 3 star price. This is a tough place to review. As a fan of Kitchen Nightmares, I wish Gordon would come through and freshen up the place, menu, and bring a vibrance to this once great place. The problem is that if they did all of this, there would go the charm and affordability of $14 all you can eat buffet, and I am not sure we need another $35 lunch buffet in town... (Atlantis) The lunch crowd seemed to be workers from the surrounding industrial and office complexes. The selection was a good array of Chinese staples, sushi, fresh fruits, and desserts. The sushi was good and fresh, but not great. The cooked food was also edible but not great. The fruit, deserts and service were great. I finally dropped in for dinner on the weekend after going here for lunch exclusively since I first got turned on to this little gem! The food, service and ambience are all still excellent in the evening...just like during lunchtime. ONE IMPORTANT NOTE: Their listed hours here on Yelp show them open until 9pm Monday-Saturday (closed Sunday). That IS NOT the case. They are open for dinner on Friday/Saturday nights ONLY...on M-Thu they're only open for lunch until 2:30p. Every time I go in, I tell them that they need to update their hours on their Yelp listing...but, they haven't done it yet...LOL... Lots more delicious stuff offered on their weekend evening buffet...like chinese spare ribs and salt & pepper head on shrimp, among other offerings. They still have their amazing soups...Hot & Sour, as well as their Won Ton soup, featuring amazing fresh made Won Tons that are little taste bomb packets. As always, what I go in for is their Mongolian Grill, as well as their outstanding Dim Sum offerings: Sticky Rice w/Pork steamed in Tarot Leaves (my fave), Siu Mai, 3 different Bao Buns that are light and fluffy: Custard, Sweet Taro and BBQ Pork...and occasionally Pot Stickers...all fresh made and extremely flavorful. As I said in my original review: I give them 4 stars because they have a few things that completely set them apart from your standard, run of the mill Oriental buffet places (described above)...which, for all means and purposes, they are! Still the best Chinese buffet around, not that there are many but this place has been open for 40yrs at least. Food is consistent, they will change up the menu sometimes, but overall good. Mongolian grill is always a plus because you pick what you want and they cook it for you. Have some baked desserts which are great and a nice selection of ice cream. Lunch is the best time to eat here because it's busy and the food is fresh. Dinner time is usually slow and that's when you get complaints about the food. Can't beat the 13.99 price. read more

A funky Chinese Buffet with a Mongolian Grill ! This place is a classic and probably has never been remodeled since opening. It's actually pretty sizable and stays pretty busy through lunchtime. I'll be honest I had never heard of it or knew where it was located, it's tucked alone in a business area. Quite unexpected driving up. A friend took me here and had been coming here for years. I can say I was a little apprehensive, but I actually enjoyed it and really liked about 85% of what I chose. The Wonton Soup was a favorite as well as the Mongolian grill side had 3 choices of meat and vegetables, plus noodles and sauces to spice it up . I chose a small portion of ingredients and the Chef cooked up my selection and it was brought to the table after completed. It was fairly tasty and I will trust putting together a larger bowl next visit. The Buffet side had such items as Beef Broccoli, Chow Fun, Spring rolls, Baos, Fried rice, Chicken Wings etc. All was relatively fresh and satisfying. They also had a section of Sushi rolls that were just O.K. Dessert items, Almond cookies, pudding, cream puffs , jello and some fruit. Plus ice cream. My least favorite item was probably a potsticker , but overall enough choices to fill me up for $15. My friend and I enjoyed the experience and the service was very good too. I've been coming here since I was about 5 years old. The food is consistent and the price for what you get is literally unbelievable now days. My kids love this place. I feel at home here. Its like your at a good friends house that cooked all this food for you and your family to choose what you want and leave what you dont want. Sometimes the ladies are not in a great mood but I really hate that society fully expects food service workers to leave all their feelings at the door when coming into work. We are all just human at the end of every day. Maybe if you didnt walk in exoected to be treated like a king then you souldnt give off a shi$$y vibe and you will be treated with the same resoect and kindness yiur showing .. just a thiught. Anyway. The food is really good. Only place that Ive been going to for years that has not changed or updated their recipes which is comforting because nothing sucks more than looking forward to something being how you remember it, and it not being what you where looking forward too. I had a business meeting here in this sort of industrial business park off Mill street. The organizer took all of us attendees out to a late lunch as we sort of ran overtime. Maybe you might call it an early dinner, but whatever, this Chinese buffet sure beats the heck out of Subway sandwiches and canned soda! Been there done that! The organizer just has to pay by the person and everybody gets what they want and the price is pretty cheap for a dinner that you don't have to do any work or setup for, just go and eat! It is an odd location for a restaurant in the middle of the business park. The buffet table is pretty small, so it's more mom and pop compered to a big city Chinese buffet. They offer Mongolian flat top stir fry, Dim Sum, soups, noodles and even spare ribs along with sushi rolls and cookies and ice cream for dessert. The food was right up there with some of the better Chinese buffet foods. The Chicken Wings were the best buffet wings I ever had! I don't do the Mongolian BBQ thing. The noodles were good as sit down food. Beef Chow fun, and Cantonese stir fried egg noodles were there with glazed shrimp you could add to the noodles. The sushi was prety much standard buffet sushi, Calif rolls with different sauces and toppings. Service was super fast, those dirty dishes were cleared as soon as we finished. and drinks were refilled fast too. Although small, Wong's Genghis Grill gets the job done with tasty food and easy access if you work near here. It was filling with more customers as we left. Good lunch buffet for a great price! The best part was the mongolian buffet (included with the buffet) where the chef grills fresh ingredients for you with any sauce you would like. The rest of the food is in the same league of quality as Panda Express, but a bit better. They have a small selection, however the mongolian grill totally makes up for it. A hidden gem, located in an industrial location off of Mills Street. I have been coming here for years and I'm glad they're still open. Great Chinese buffet for $11.99 per person. Everything from sushi to Mongolian hot grill where you choose your meats and veggies along with your sauces and have it made to order. They offer limited desserts with self serve ice cream. I will say that's my favorite! They close at 2:30 p.m. during the week and they get fairly busy during the lunch rush. Pleasantly surprised there was a Mongolian bbq... and that is what I went with. Wish there were more options and sauces .. The meats looked decent, and I should of added more to the sauce. Wong's Genghis Khan Classic Asian Choices - Comfortable, Welcoming, Reasonable We were in the mood for a good Chinese buffet. Reviews for Wong's Genghis Khan were all over the place. Decided to check out for ourselves as we were in the area. Def has its fan base as a dozen people were waiting for the doors to open at 11a. The Kimchi was some of the spiciest my husband has had in NV, unexpected delight. A previous reviewer dinged Wong's Sui Mai (not crispy) and Char Sui Bao. I do not agree. Unusual comment as classic Siu Mai is steamed, when fresh it would never be crispy. Also Char Sui Bao is usually just a small bit of BBQ pork enveloped in light bun, the ratio at Wong's is as expected. The Dim Sum places I have been to in Hong Kong and San Francisco are much more like Wong's than the previous reviewer expected. The Breaded shrimp was plumb & moist, again an unexpected find. Wong's is using quality ingredients for the shrimp to be so flavorful. What I do agree with is the Beef Chow Fun, it was especially tasty. The offerings of sushi were regularly refilled ~12 different varieties. Avocado was featured on top or inside multiple rolls. The Octopus Balls, at least that is what I call them, fried balls of goodness were still warm, v fresh. The Mongolian grill offered ~9 different sauces, 3proteins (beef, pork, chicken), and 12 different vegetables. You make your own concoction and the grill master cooks it for you. I am used to standing there waiting for it but Wong's has you sit down and they bring it to you. I enjoyed my bowl but I always have to restrain myself from making multiple bowls in the quest for the perfect mix, you have been warned. The desserts of fresh fruit, canned fruit, and ice cream are typical. The Chinese cookies do not have much sugar usually, that is why there is always fruit. Wong's Napoleon was especially light and flaky. Just the right touch to end the meal. Parking was plentiful, dining room was larger than expected. Dining Room staff circled continuously refilling water and removing empty plates. Kitchen staff could be seen regularly bringing out refills to the steam table and sushi rolls. We enjoyed our meal and will add Wong's Genghis Khan buffet to our list of restaurants in Reno we will return to. Excellent value. read more

Went to Wong's Genghis Khan today. First off, the staff was very nice. Comfortable place. Service was prompt and excellent. For the price, $13.99, I can't imagine a better value for lunch. Small buffet, but everything tried was fresh & flavorful. Chow Mien & Chow Fun legit with good Wok flavor. Limited choices in Mongolian bbq, but very good. The big surprise was the Sushi. 6-7 different rolls. Very fresh & tasty, had to go back for seconds . Definitely worth your time to go a bit out of your way to check it out. Perfectly average Asian buffet with a Mongolian grill that cooks whatever combo you fancy with the provided ingredients. Theres nothing particularly good or bad to say about it. In term of food variety, Wong's has fewer than King's buffet but does have some tasty specialties like taro/custard/bbq buns. Very affordly priced for what it offers. I was here on Saturday from 4:30 until 5:15pm expecting a buffet dinner. The server confirmed with me that it was dinner time. The food was mediocre at best. My first round was beef and broccoli, beef chowfun, and some stir fried vegetables. Pretty much leftover food they been serving at lunch. As I was getting my food, I heard a patron at the sushi bar complained that she found a hair in one of the rolls. Needless to say I did not get any sushi due to the complaint. Round two was pretty much the same food offered, dried and lukewarm leftovers from lunch. The only addition was salt and pepper shrimp which was salty for my taste. I assumed they want the lunch items to be used up before putting out dinner items. I will not return to this restaurant. This was about my fifth time dining here within a 5 years period. The food was just not good. Probably the worst Chinese food I've eaten and I am part Chinese. They must have using the lowest quality ingredients. Even the soda was flat. If you're going to charge dinner pricing you will need to make sure dinner will be served. read more

We don't go to buffets very often, but when your grandkids want to go, you go; especially when one of them is celebrating their 5th birthday!! We didn't have too high of expectations of the quality or the freshness of the food, so we were pleasantly surprised when EVERYTHING we had was delicious and fresh!! We have always liked Genghis Khan and still do like the food, but I have to say the cleanliness of the ladies room was abhorrent. Everything was filthy.... walls, floor, sink, EVERYTHING. I would rather go to a gas station bathroom than to enter the ladies room here. I couldn't even get warm water in the sink.... cold only. I've been a customer for years and I still love it. There's not a huge selection but as far as I'm concerned their selection is what I like. They've expanded their sushi selection over recent years. Their Mongolian BBQ is really good. I'm absolutely biased because I've been to many Chinese Buffets across the country and they can be pretty bad but not Wong's. Their service is really great. I've been here 2x and each time was with friends for a lunch of socializing. This place was recommended by one of my friends each time it has not disappointed. It is tucked away in the financial district of Reno off of McCarren and even though it's on a corner, you could miss it. We were a party of 6 and we were seated right away even though it was the peak of the lunch rush. I usually go to the Mongolian BBQ side first as I really enjoy loading up on what I want in my bowl. They have the meats frozen and shaved thin, vegetables sliced small and many sauces to chose from or you can mix to get creative. Unlike other Mongolian BBQ places, you leave your bowl with the chef, tag your bowl with a number that you take to your table and they will bring it to your table. (Keeps people from crowding the buffet line). The also have dim sum with steamers going to keep it hot; different type of manapuas (pork buns, taro buns, sweet potato buns), pork hash,fried shrimp, fried chicken, beef brocolli, sweet and sour chicken, etc. There is also many varities of sushi to chose from and there is always a bowl of chilled kim chi nearby. The desserts were ok, but I'm usually either too full for dessert or I go for the ice cream which is usually 6 flavors to chose from. The price for lunch is still reasonable and a good value. It have been years since I last ate here. The food could have been better, the quality of the food have gone down hill. Some food taste either bland, some are salty. Soy Sauce chow Mein, what stands out and is what I ate mostly. The taste is on par. Their sushi is little dry, and falls apart. Their chow fun is okay. Their oyster / muscles are salty and grainy. Seafood and veggies are bland, I tried both of their soups, hot and sour soup is bland, could use hint of salt.
