From the road, this looks a bit like a dump. (Inside too). We were in on a Saturday morning at what must have been their busiest time. The small establishment was packed. Took a while to be greeted, but once we were, service was swift. I had country style steak, which came with 2 eggs your way (I had scrambled), toast and potatoes. Each item was perfect. The steak was cooked just right, the sausage gravy was fantastic - salted with the tiniest bit of spicy. Not bland, not overseasoned. The potatoes had a small hint of garlic and salt. Again, just right. I'm picky about home style potatoes - these may have been the best I've had. The eggs were good ( I'm not much for eggs) and the toast was generously buttered with real butter (not margarine). Just the way I like it. Food is about equal to a waffle house. Biscuits and gravy was basically a decent biscuit in a bowl of watery gravy. Waitress was grabbing dirty dishes from tables, then touching the burger buns and bagels barhanded, AND eating the French fries out of the batch prepared for customers. 2 couples in our party and we asked her to separate the bill and she split the bill 50/50 so my friends paid for extra food that I ordered. Been there 3 times and every time just gets better and better! This place absolutely amazing and you can tell it's a local place. If you don't get there around 8-9 it's going to be packed no matter what day it is. The staff makes you feel at home and the owner is always out front talking to people and just helping the staff out. The place looks like Waffle House but it has much homey feel to it. If you sit at the counter, the cook will actually talk with you and you can see your food cook right in front of you. The food comes out in a hot second and literally feels like a second but the meal isn't cooked till you order. The biscuits are absolutely HUGE! If you want a great place to eat, this is a must stop. This place exceeded our expectations man. Why does this place doesn't have more reviews and photos is beyond me. The service was good even though the lady was attending everyone by herself, but the food, the food was the best we've had in the Keys thus far and we've eaten breakfast at 6 different places throughout this week. If you get a chance to stop at this place (5:30am-1:00pm) you will not regret it. Until next year from Maryland. read more

Very good food here, but not worth the wait and terrible service. I've never dealt with such a nasty server in my life. Her vocabulary consists of two words: "Watcha want?" No "good morning" or "thank you," just a person with a rotten disposition who seems very unhappy in her work. I understand that it was busy, like most places, and I'm usually very generous and kind to servers. However, this is probably the first place in my life I didn't leave a tip. Nasty, rude service. Came here with my large family on my moms 70th birthday. We were 7 adult and 3 kids and I was the last in the door. My family had already been seated except two of us when the waitress comes by to serve the table behind ours and yells "come on guys! I said a small person needed to sit here! You have to split up." She was mad and I felt like a fat ass and unwelcome. I got an immediate anxiety attack because the packed restaurant got quiet and all looked at me so I said I needed to make a phone call and left. The rest of my family might have enjoyed their eggs and toast (hard to get wrong) but I will never go back. We initially saw this on a drive-by then began checking reviews to help in our decision to go. Surprisingly, many of the reviews were 4 & 5 star which of course gave us the green light! Unfortunately, our food was just ok. The sausage gravy was only warm, the biscuit was underbaked, the potatoes were just ok, the french toast was just ok, along with the omelet, the bagel, the pancake and the dry sausage patty. My husband LOVED his food and I really liked mine. We would have gone back if we had been staying in the area longer. Good prices. Don't go if you can't handle a little dirt. Other reviewers are telling the truth about a dirty floor, dirty window sill and there was a hair on the honey bottle. This wasn't enough to ruin my experience, though. It was good food that came out fast and friendly service. They offer lunch boxes you can take for eating on the beach later, so consider having breakfast here and 'getting lunch to go. read more

We went two mornings for breakfast during our stay. It was the breakfast potatoes that brought us back a second time. The other food was good, but let's be honest, it is bacon and eggs so there isn't much you can do with it. If they offer a half order of biscuits and gravy, that would probably still be plenty. Now I'm a very picky eater, I can say the food is very good but that's not why my rating is so low. The service is TERRIBLE. Maybe others had a great experience, but I didn't. The waitress wasn't even talkative, and there was left over creamer from one of the previous customers. It almost spilled on my pants because the table was too small for me and my mom. Since the waitress wasn't talkative, my mom cut the tip in half. It was so hard asking for a to-go box because all the workers kept disappearing. And the bathrooms, honestly so bad. The restrooms smelled like cigarettes. And when I get the smell of that, I can't get it out of my nose for about two days. And while I was using the restroom, one of the workers kept yanking on the door handle. Honestly not one of my favorite places to eat. I have been a faithful supporter of this place for 17 years. Today, I have to face the reality that the legacy is over. My go to breakfast is country fried steak and eggs. Eggs over medium, rye toast, and fried potatoes. It has never failed to please. my toast was absolutely cold. The eggs were runny, the potatoes were uncooked (other than par boiled) and the steak had mushy breading that was sloughing off. There are only 2 original employees still there. The man that gets your coffee and greets you still has a great attitude. The waitress that has been there as long as I have been going there acts like she doesn't want to be there. My wife had 2 eggs scrambled, undercooked and runny.. The bacon was undercooked and fatty, and her toast and potatoes were cold. My egg yolk was actually colder than room temperature. I hate to have to talk smack on this place as I have loved it for years but since it has changed hands, forget about it! read more

We decided to check this place out due to the reviews. The food was good. The service was prompt but just utilitarian; which is fine. The staff enjoy their locals more than the tourists; fine again, just noted. The minus to me were the bathrooms are "out back" of the building. I have been in better outhouses. The cleanliness of the building and the cooking areas was not stellar but no one got sick or anything. It's just a tired old building that doesn't get attended to much.
