This is my local hardware store and they do a great job. I always find what I need and they always help with questions i have about projects I'm working on. On one occasion one of the gentlemen in the store stayed open late to assist me in finding a piece of hardware I needed to put my daughters new bunk bed together (anyone who has kids know how children get excited). It was super cool and thoughtful because of this guys extra effort made my little kids so happy. They can get a bit busy, but if your patience and nice you'll find you'll get all the help you need. I wish I could support small businesses but the people who work here are terrible!! All employees would rather kill themselves than help you out with anything. When they do they are snarky and act like you're in the wrong. Btw don't ever try and call to ask about information because they will transfer your call to a department that won't answer. Then they will complain about you calling back, then complain when you come in and buy what you were asking for. Woods Ace Hardware might be part of the Ace corporation but it stills retains the service and quality of a smaller independently owned business. Woods maintains a good inventory with most of the things you find at the two big chain home improvement stores, but the big difference is the people that work here. They're helpful, friendly and very accessible when you need to ask a question. I don't care if I get better prices at the bigger home improvement centers; I'd much rather pay a little more and not have do deal with the crowds and busy parking lots. This is one of the few stores around here where you can walk in and still get that small-town feel. read more

A medium sized hardware store with excellent parking and very friendly employees. They have great selections and usually a center table with hundreds of items that are on sale. Cashiers and customer service are very good. As other have said this store has that friendly "small town" feel. If you walk around you are certain to get approached by an employee asking if you need help finding something. I'm a bit biased because I hate going into big box hardware stores. I will if I have to buy my preference is to patronize small business that respect their customers. That's what you get at Woods. read more

I love the fact that we have a personalized Hard ward store in the neighborhood and that we dont have to drive far for a missing clue or plumbing fix. This place feels like you are going to your grand parents house, it quiet besides the parrot speaking, and it has that same smell and feel or peace and quiet. The counter ladies are older but nice and they do their best to help us as fas possible but the line often gets long and the wait is definitely longer than your typical home depot. But I usually know that I will have to wait longer and I am more patient and try to enjoy the moment and the fact that It's a neighborhood store. I stopped into Woods Hardware today to get a key duplicated, I was offered help within a minute of walking in & I was exiting with the keys a couple of minutes later. The keys worked great. This was at about 4pm on a weekday, and the store seemed plenty well staffed. The woman who made the key for me was all business and did a great job, even wire brushing all burrs & sharp edges off the key. Very professional. Other notes: the bird did not squawk at anybody while I was there. The basic Quickset keys were $3.99 each and were well made. I was asked by a second person if I needed any help before I got to the register. So this store seems very customer focused to me. read more

I went in to purchase a metric socket and ratchet set. The cashier, John Z, started yelling at me and condescendingly asked if I knew what a metric set even was and if I even knew the difference in sizes while yelling at me so loud that everyone behind me was starring. I told him that I do know what a metric socket is and this is what I need and to please just let me purchase it. He wouldn't let me talk and started talking over me and kept yelling at me and continued to treat me as if I was dumb. He handed the set back to me and said get the right one angrily with this mean blank stare. Afterwords I heard him being nice to caucasian male customers. I'm not sure if he was yelling at me and being rude with me because of my ethnicity or because I'm a female or both. Never have I felt so uncomfortable and treated with such disrespect. I looked for help and a nice store clerk nearby helped me. I purchased two sockets that didn't fit the my ratchet at home. That's why I wanted the whole set so that wouldn't happen. I had to return them wasting my time. When I got home from returning the sockets I called the store and asked to speak to hr or a manager. I heard the person that answered the phone ask someone how to transfer me to hr or a a manger and she proceeded to say "I think she wants to make a complaint" , I heard them laughing saying "send her over to me then" again while laughing. I was sent to a voicemail and left a message. I never leave complaints because I think it's important to leave positive reviews for businesses. I'm a property manager and told my company that has hundreds of large multi family properties in the area about my experience with John Z and they said that they will never purchase anything from woods ace hardware going forward. I hope someone gets back to about this matter. read more

I had a swing-arm bathroom mirror that needed to be fixed. I knew it would require some creative thinking to solve the issue and that the exact part would likely not be available. I took the mirror in and 3 of the employees spent a very long time taking it apart, analyzing it, and trying various parts. They rigged something up and viola! It is like new. I had to laugh because the 3 of them were hunched over the counter looking like they were doing surgery. They were super patient and helpful and I am very grateful. So wonderful to have local people who care enough to spend the time to help. This never would have happened if I'd taken it to one of the large chain stores. read more

So I spend thousand of dollars monthly on hardware. I usually pass Woods, on my way to the big boys in Torrance. I decided that I have passed this place so many times, that I should stop and see what they have. Personally I would rather give my money to a local shop than the big boys. Well, I found most of the items for which I was looking, but needed help finding one thing. I approached a large, bearded ginger employee and pulled my mask away from my mouth (not down, just away) so that I could annunciate my request. The ginger told me to keep my mask on my mouth. Now I know why I passed this business and will continue to do so. Nobody, at the big boys, has EVER asked me to keep my mask on when asking a question. I guess I should feel sorry for someone who needs power that bad, but for me, it on to the big boys. I will NEVER go back to Woods!!!! read more

We locals just call it "Woods" and most seem to love the place. I like the easy parking, their lot always has plenty of room. My most recent purchases include garden hoses, a broom, a doormat, a hunk of rain gutter and picture hangers. And while I was there I had some keys made. I'm fixin' up an old house nearby, so Woods Ace should be seeing a lot of me in coming weeks. There's always somebody on the floor available to assist the shoppers, you won't have to hunt long for help. And their inventory is sufficient, saving me the trip to Home Depot or Lowe's. The downside: you might leave with a whole lotta crap you didn't plan on buying, because they got so much cool stuff. The Woods guy somehow managed to put that long gutter into my car, I was amazed. He walked out with me to see if it would fit before I paid for it. Nice old-fashioned service. As you enter the store, a real parrot will greet you and chatter away. You'll feel like you went back in time and landed in Mayberry. Works for me. Of course, Woods carries a nice selection of outdoor bird feeders. Behind the store I can usually find all the clean cardboard boxes I need, around the dumpsters. So, yeah......I've evolved into a dumpster-diver who converses with birds and looks forward to her next visit to the hardware store. My Grandpa would be proud. read more

I came here for some polyurethane and oil for my car. The guy helping me figure out which kind of polyurethane I needed for my "project", was very patient and helpful. I think he felt sorry for me since I looked like a kid in a sugar free candy store. Then he helped me find a level. The lady at the register was very sweet. I went outside and there was a man parked next to my car with jumper cables. He was in line buying them before me. He asked if I had time to give him a jump. "Sure. wanna put this oil in my car?" "Deal!" a couple minutes later, the woman at the register, and another employee came out and helped us. It was a pretty cool experiece. Felt very small town. Plus I can say that I jumped a dude in the parking lot. read more

Was very disappointed at the service today. As a real estate agent I have to get keys made monthly. My new listing is a trust sale. They only have one key for the door and one key for the gate. They marked them "Do Not Duplicate", as they are the originals. The man working the service desk was quite rude and explained he will never make these keys. I showed proof of my Real Estate license and a business card. I live and work in Torrance. What could I possibly be trying to hide? I will no longer support the local hardware store. just moved to Redondo and hate having to go to Home Depot for my hardware/random stuff shopping. Woods has a neighborhood vibe and has a ton of stuff beyond normal hardware supplies. I want to support the small local stores, and I sort of feel bad, but c'mon. I went into this Ace location to buy a gift card for my mother-in-law. The checkout lady said she wasn't sure if they had any more, even though I had just received an ad from Ace promoting these gift cards. The checker said she would ask the manager. She disappeared for a few minutes, leaving me to stand there waiting. She came back and told me someone was going to look upstairs if there were any gift cards in stock. Fine, I said, I'll wait. Minutes went by, the lady who was checking me out then went on break. I'm standing there for over 10 minutes, no one is attending to me. The store steady but there's no line and plenty of employees standing around. Finally a different checker takes pity on me and asks, "what kind of gift card were you waiting for again?" Sigh... I asked if I could possibly talk to the manager. The checker says, " I think the manager is the one looking for the gift cards." I mumble something about "thanks for nothing" and walk out. Yes, I understand it's Xmas time and there's a pandemic going on so we must be patient but all I wanted was a gift card. I'm not saying you shouldn't go to Ace; I've had plenty of trips there with no issues. I won't be going back here, myself, as there are many choices out there. I don't often give 5 stars. Okay, that's probably a lie (but it's probably not THAT often). If a hardware, stuff-you-can't-find-anywhere, stuff-you-didn't-even-know-you-really-needed, store existed, this would be it -- and I'd give it 6 stars!! Let's face it, the weekend home improvement job often means several trips to the hardware store for the right tool. If you're like me you despise having to stop everything and head to your local big box only to wander aimlessly. What's more, once you find the right screw or nut for your task - they often come 3 to a pack (who ever heard of a job needing 3 screws?). Wood Ace Hardware had delivered not once, but twice on items that other places told me did not even exist! I once needed a gas line that was just a little bit longer than standard. The local plumbing specialty store was no help and after trips to all 3 of the "Bigs" in my area I was about to take the damn door off the dryer or move the actual gas line. Ace had the right gas line and many others too. Let me add a word or two about the atmosphere. I feel like I'm in a hardware store where people actually care about what they are doing. It's old school, from the smell of the burnt coffee to the sleepy parrot by the front door... this is how it should be. read more

I have seen those commercials that say "Ace the helpful place." Honestly, though I didn't believe that line until I came here. So I decided to upgrade the hard drive on my Playstation 3. Now, anyone who has done this knows that screws on PS3 get easily stripped. This is exactly what happened to me. I came here to see if they could help me out. They were very helpful. Now they really could have just given me instructions as to what to do at home. Instead, one of the guys took it to the back to use their tools and get the screws out. Then they helped me find the right replacement screws. Now that is helpful. I have been back and will continue to do so for any of my hardware needs. read more

Nice to have a Local Hardware Store instead of dealing with the crowds at the big stores for smaller items. Problem is they don't seem to understand the concept of a "Rain Check". Last Friday they were out of an item that was on sale. The salesman offered to write me a "Rain Check" and said he would order the items. Come Tuesday I get a call that my items are in. Great! I go to pick them up and they want to charge me full price, not the sale price. I'm told the sale was over on Monday. WHAT?? That is why I got the "Rain Check", to get the sale price. read more

It loses 1 star and almost 2 because a few of the guys that work the floor (especially the younger ones) seem annoyed when you ask them a question. I don't need someone to be overly enthusiastic about telling me where hinges are but if I need a lengthier explanation on something it would be nice to have the person at least look up at you and not make it seem like you just ruined their day. This is my first time to this store. Although I've driven all over the South Bay, this is the first time I stopped off at this hardware store. My initial quest was to redeem my coupon for free quart of Clark+Kensington paint. All the workers were so helpful and assisted in color choices for paint and in my search of putting colors together. While I was waiting, I walked around the store and started to realize just how much stuff they have in here! It has everything! I came out buying a bunch of things. The store reminded me much like the stores you find in small towns where everyone is so friendly, helpful and mellow. I can't wait to go back for more home stuff. =) read more

Just wanted a key made. Waited around for about 10 min before asking someone there about key. Standing at key section, employee walked buy, I asked "can you make a key" he said "ask someone else!!"
