I've been here before and always was met with helpful people. Maybe Sunday was just an off day but I have to say, I had a bad experience. The minute I walked in I heard a weird noise but didn't pay attention and just went about getting the item I came in to buy. I heard the same noise 10 seconds or so later. Again I was headed for my aisle. There it goes again! And again! Then it was every 5 seconds or so. It was a loud obnoxious yell. I couldn't focus on what I needed because this was so loud. I started wondering if someone was hurt or what was going on so I went to investigate. I was completely amazed when in the aisle was this giant bird squawking. I grabbed my item and headed to checkout. The other patrons seemed annoyed by the bird too but when I asked Georgia, one of the employees how she deals with that everyday, she said she didn't even hear it. REALLY?!?! I'm happy to try to shop there again but whoever decided it was great business to being your annoying bird to work needs to rethink that decision. read more

I have been going to Woods since '99 when they were the "classic hole in the wall" hardware store on the East side of the street. There has recently been some turnover in employees, not sure why, but I have never run into any rudeness. Yes, some of them do not smile but they have been like that for years, don't confuse that for rudeness. I go there when I need just one of something or I am working on some bizarre McGyver type project and they are always helpful with ideas and products. read more

This is the best hardware store I have ever been in. Their service is phenomenal, I had a problem identifying a thread pitch on a re plated part for a restoration I was doing, Their staff person took a personal interest and made a great suggestion and solved my problem and they are a hardware store, not necessarily a "service store" but they provide many custom services and customer support. You won't find this kind of help on Amazon or Home Depot so keep these guys in business rather than saving 10 cents at some crap ass store like Home Depot where the floor people run from you. It is very convenient to my house and the hours are great. So I'm a fan of this store. It is well stocked and most of the employees have a good to great knowledge about paint, keys, screens, nuts & bolts, wire, hardware and various supplies. They do seem to have it all, or almost all of it. I do wish, after 14 years of shopping that this store at least one of the employe knew my name. I also wish the cashiers were friendly, as in "Hi {insert man} how are you doing today" and or, "We really appreciate your business." But I don't get everything I wish for. But I know it would help business and the bottom line. That aside you will like the variety, knowledge of the hardware people and well stocked shelves. read more

Just love this place. Great parking, outstanding selection of items, and have always received helpful and courteous service. The selection of nuts and bolts is fantastic. I've been a customer since they were on the other side of Palos Verdes Blvd. A pretty fair selection of stuff and the prices are reasonable. Sometimes it's hard to catch a floor person for help but, once you do, they are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The parrot is a hoot. read more

I am a supporter of small local businesses! Unfortunately, this Ace Hardware store has a ton to learn about customer service. This one is real simple, needed to get a few keys made and no one was at the counter. I went searching for someone and employee John B just happened to be walking out from the back. I politely asked him if he new who worked at the key making counter. His reply "How would I know!" He looked at me strangely and turned around and went right back to the employees only area. It blew me away! I thought I was on a hidden camera show! Needless to say, I was completely disappointed! If it weren't for the nice ladies up front at the cashier, I would have walked out and never returned! They encouraged me to stay and found someone to make my duplicate keys! I'm glad to see I am not the only one who finds the cashiers to be rude. Not all of them but definitely most of them. Additionally, the store is generally empty and it can be hard to find a sales associate when help is needed. I've been treated rudely by the store for the last time since I won't return. Hire friendly cashiers. Have sales associates available to assist customers. Have the friendly sales associates train the grumpy cashiers about customer service or just get rid of them altogether. Based on how empty this store is, I would be better suited buying from Amazon, Walmart, Lowe's or Home Depot. While I want to see a neighborhood store do well, there is no merit for a rude and ungracious staff. read more

I have been coming to this place my entire life and I will not come back after today. I went in there asked three people for a simple piece of plastic, two of them didn't know where any plastic plexiglass was and the other gentleman told me to go to the self help desk where they make keys. I waited there for 10 minutes without a single employee coming to help even though employees kept walking by. Finally I took it upon myself to walk around the store to look for the plastic I needed. In the very back right corner of the store on the bottom shelf mixed in with a ton of giant scrap metal l, scrap wood and other various scrap pieces. The piece had no label and it was so scratched that you couldn't even see through it. It 100% was scrap plastic. It had no label and was clearly cut down from its original size, again clearly scrap plastic. I brought it to the front to pay for it, I asked the guy how much for this piece of scrap plastic then he said two dollars. All of a sudden some old lady with a very mean look on her face heavy set gray hair in a funky hat came up and said no this is not scrap let me go see how much it is. Only to keep me waiting there another five minutes before she came back and said that's not scrap it's $14. Even tue gentleman at the register said he knows it's scrap cuz that's where they keep scrap!!! Lady I've been coming here my whole life and I've been treated very well here that's why I keep coming back but for you to rudely override the gentleman who gave me the two dollar price for no reason at all just because you were on some sort of mean power trip is ridiculous. I would never pay $14 for a piece of small heavily scratched plexiglass. I recommend that all neighbors and future consumers stay farrr away from this place. It's a complete rip off and the employees are not helpful and they extremely rude to the customers. When I told the lady I would not be coming back she said "good"! If it were my business she would be fired right away for saying something like that a customer. WARNING STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! read more

Well, if you like to pay more for items, perhaps not have what you need, have the supposed helpful help avoid or misdirect you, go to this place. Then there are the cashiers that would do better to smile once and awhile and keep in mind that customers are the ones that really pay them. I am afraid everyone their has their embedded rudeness show itself once and awhile. Just read through the reviews that describe the lack of caring. This is a nice local independent hardware store that was very helpful in my time of need. I was looking for a garage door tension cable that neither Lowe's or Home Depot carry in store or online. Ace has the cable online so I went down to see if they had it in the store. They did not but they were able to make a duplicate with the cable they had in the store. This saved me loads of time so I could repair my door and get it fix the same day. By the way there was no extra charge for making the cable right there on the spot. Thank you for your help in my time of need. By the way if you need something that they carry online you can have them order it for you and pick it up at the store and save the shipping charge. read more

My husband accidentally shattered the single-pane glass in our aluminum-framed window. Since it's a Saturday, most of the local glass places were closed. I called Woods Hardware and was told to bring it on over and they could replace it today. My husband dropped off the frame and 2 hours later, they called and said it was ready to go! The staff was very friendly and I was in and out in under 10 minutes to pick up the window. The price for the repair was very reasonable as well. The cashier carried it out to my car for me and I was on my way. I will definitely be back for any future repairs or hardware needs we have. "Gary J" of Torrance was right on with his feedback. While the folks working the floors may be knowledgeable, you wouldn't know by asking me. As for the cashiers...surly, sour and completely useless. But I can almost overlook all that - they can't help it if they're useless and lazy - that's management's problem. What I WILL NOT overlook is being overcharged and then given the 'run-around' when the error is brought to their attention. Today I bought three items on sale for subtotal of $23.97, but got charged $3.51 sales tax - equivalent to 15%! After a quick review of the receipt, it was clear they had charged sales tax on the ORIGINAL shelf (i.e. non-sale) price! Couldn't speak with the manager because he wasn't in - I'll be calling him in the morning for his explanation. Hopefully they haven't been 'conducting business' like this forever. read more

I assumed this location would be a friendly neighborhood place. Rude woman at the front was very brusque and unkind and 2 men at the back service counter were not any better. They kept talking after I had started asking a question, as though I wasn't even there. They didn't care less about my request and were beyond dismissive. I so much wanted to like this store. I am even willing to pay a little more and support a local independent store owner rather than a big box store like Home Depot or Lowes. WRONG! I was made to feel stupid with my simple question and greeted by a very rude and sarcastic man who made me feel like he was doing me a huge favor by waiting on me. Hey, the people at HD or Lowes are not always that knowledgeable but at least they are courteous. My past few visits I've noticed the customer service going down hill and when I do talk to the store manager, he is as clueless as everyone else. Never do I get a hello, please, or thank you out of the cashiers. I've been in customer service for 30 years and that grates on me. Today, Ryan came to get electrical travel adapters out of the cage for me and as I was asking him questions he seemed very preoccupied texting and facebooking. I went to one cashier who had her light on and she had a pharmacy going with her vitamins all spread out on the counter. I went to the other cashier and no hello, no thank you, no please, no would you like a bag for my multi-item purchase. I try to support mom and pop places but this place is clueless!!!! OWNER!!!! Wonderful local hardware store, the only one left near me since OSH closed. Owner John is great---super friendly and MAKES HOUSE CALLS (for a reasonable fee) if you need a screen door repaired or replaced. Returns to install them. Totally worth it for my situation--with 9 old screen doors barely sliding and all with slightly different issues. John is a font of knowledge about sliding screens! He can even make oddball sizes, if, like me, you have tried every cheap door offered by Home Depot and Lowes. We need to support our local businesses. I highly recommend this one, especially if you have screen door issues! read more
