First off this place is pet friendly and you can get a table in their patio. The food is superb. I had the seafood roll as my main entree. I would take that over a lobster roll in other restaurants any day... that's how good it is. The calamari strips are cooked perfectly (tender and not rubbery) along with the fries. Clam chowder is as good as Splash or even better (depends on your preference). Service was quick. We had a group of 10 people and we got our food fairly quickly. Tired this place out for the first time. As we walked up it looked like this place was really good from the looks of a lot of people were dining here. I ordered the fish tacos and in my opinion they were just ok it was covered in a sauce and it was way too much. I also had the clam chowder I'll give that a 8 out of 10. That's the only thing I liked. This place is an order at the counter and they will bring you your food. They have outside seating which is a nice touch to the restaurant and it faces the beach so there is a nice view. They also have a bar and in door seating if you prefer that instead. If you're a local, avoid this place. The only real reason to go is the ambience--the views of the pier and the street are fantastic. But that's where it ends. The service is walk-up only, yet you're charged sit-down prices. I ordered shrimp tacos: three tacos for $17.50, with no sides included. Each taco came with just one small, filleted shrimp. Not prawns, not jumbo--just one ordinary shrimp per taco. That's three shrimp total for nearly eighteen dollars. When I asked for a lime wedge, the server told me there was "already lime on it," instead of simply bringing one. Flavor? Hard to tell, since there wasn't enough shrimp to taste. I confirmed with the bartender that this isn't a mistake--that's how they always make it. Most locals already know better, but I've lived in Morro Bay for years and decided to give it another try. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the worst shrimp tacos I've ever had. Came here for a Friday afternoon getaway. This place had plenty of seating inside and out. The views from the patio were great of the ocean and Pismo pier. The menu had options for your hunger needs. I went with the Alaskan fish n chips, the cup of clam chowder w/side of shrimp. The fish was great with a crisp batter, the fries were also delicious. As for the clam chowder, it was ok but definitely had better at Splash. When ordering beer you have to order it from the bar only not with the food. It is very sad to see this place go down hill like they have. This was always a go to spot for fish tacos and their drinks. We drove almost 4 hours to hit this place up only to be disappointed. Tacos cold, the portions are smaller, the drinks were watered down and two many flies. They have raised their prices and cut back on their staff. They now use a pick up window even when you are eating there. They should cut back on their prices, add your staff back and deal with larger volume of customers to make your profits instead of scrimping on the Food and Service. You're only keeping people away instead of flocking to your business like they used to do when they would flood out the door. read more

Not sure if this place is self serve, they bring your food out but they don't give you any napkins or spoons. They do have multiple condiment & utensils stations throughout the restaurant. That one Sunday a few of weeks ago when it was over 70 degrees outside, so my bff and her bf and I ventured out to Pismo Beach. After sunbathing, we walked over to Wooly's for a late lunch. . In good weather fashion, it was busy and bumping in here with a line out the door. There's large prints of the menu on the walls/ramp leading to the entry as you wait in line so it made it easy to choose what to order. The venue is super casual and you order your food prior to self seating. I settled on the Ahi Tuna Burger with waffle fries and my friend kept it simple with sweet potato fries and cauliflower bites. . I subtracted one star because it was a little dirty, tables needed to be wiped and since there's no server if you need anything extra (condiments, napkins, etc) you have to get up and go to the cashier, bar or the counter by the kitchen to ask for it. Maybe they can assign someone to monitor the dining room during peak times to keep the tables tidy and alleviate with small asks. . Nonetheless, the burger was banging with a super juicy and fresh slaw. Once I saw it, I knew I should have cut it in half or run the risk of taking a home an awkwardly bitten bite as a left over. I was hungry so I cleaned my plate. . It's pretty pricey for casual, American bar food fare, so I can't say I'm dying to come eat here again. I still had a good experience overall. read more

I was pretty annoyed when someone e sat at the table next to us 10 minutes later with clam chowder. They either had some when I ordered or a few minutes later, so why not give me the option to wait? Got the clams instead and they were good. My boyfriend got the fish and chips, also good. The Mexican shrimp cocktail was a bit different. Instead of several large pieces of shrimp, there were three, with smaller pieces of shrimp inside mixed with a salsa/cocktail sauce/avocados. It was a generous serving of shrimp and I liked it. We got in to Pismo late afternoon... I hadn't eaten all day and honestly wanted to go straight to Splash Cafe but he (bf) thought it was too busy and I didn't fight it because I was starving! We sat inside where he could watch the football game that was on (Texans/Chiefs). I honestly don't know what I was expecting from this Jalapeño Grilled Cheese but it wasn't what I got lol.. it wasn't bad but it didn't satisfy my hunger quite like I'd like. Plus, we shared and he took the top half which apparently had almost all the Jalapeños and mine had very little. The Sweet Potatoe fries were good but I've had better. My boyfriend seems to have the mindset that all Clam Chowders taste the same but, no, I'm sorry... this was NOTHING like Splash Cafe (review coming soon for them). No comparison. Again, it wasn't bad but it didn't quite do it for me. Lastly, he ordered from the kids menu since he wasn't that hungry and we were going to share everything anyway... he got the fish & chips. Alaskan Cod and waffle fries. As he would say: "this was the star of the show" and I do not disagree. The cod was perfect but we both especially liked the tartar sauce that came with it. I'm surprised he did because he usually doesn't care for tartar sauce... I'm the tartar sauce eater/lover of the pair. This rating might not be fair to them because I made the poor judgment of ordering a grilled cheese (but I love grilled cheese) in Pismo... but, what's done is done. We came on a Tuesday for lunch when there was a constant line & 1 register open to order. There is a large menu posted outside to look at while in line & another behind the counter. It is located on the end of the street by the pier. After ordering, we took our number & found an indoor table. The majority of tables are outside, with lots of bar seating also available. Both locations are loud with the bustle of people & background music. Utensils, condiments, & water are available at a self-serve area next to the order counter. The staff was helpful enough at order & food drop off, but don't expect to be checked on. Food came out pretty fast considering how busy they were. What we got-- Chowder Fries Skillet--This was good as a whole, served nice & hot. Bowl of Clam Chowder--This was a super thick version of chowder, goopy even. It had a lot of big bites of clam (with occasional grit) & lots of veggies, but was still rather bland. It's not my preference for a chowder & I've had many chowders from coastal towns in Cali. It's served in a disposable container with a packet of oyster crackers. Kids Cheeseburger Sliders with Fries--The waffle fries were a hit, the buns were nice & toasty, cheese was tasty. However little one complained about the texture of the formed patty that she likened to "breakfast sausage" versus being ground beef. Overall, just meh for us. Wooly's is right on the water front, there is indoor and outdoor seating as well as seats at the bar. Dogs are welcome so we got to bring our dog with us and there were plenty others outside. They offer water bowls for your dogs that you can bring to your table and you can find them outside on a bench by the kitchen door. A employee even offered to bring one over for us. It can be a bit windy outside so it's best to bring a jacket even during the summer, under the umbrellas it can get chilly. The food is delicious we enjoyed everything we tried and we returned a few times because they're dog friendly. I loved the calamari, they serve thick strips of it rather than the smaller ones you see for appetizers. The po boy was also good but I wished it had a bit more sauce on it. I love their waffle fries, definitely a highlight. The clam chowder is really good, my sister loved it. Everything we've tried has been delicious. The only dish I wouldn't get again was the cheese curds, I think they may have been a bit overcooked. The drinks here are great, plus the seaside ambience is perfect. My mom loved the spicy margarita. Over our different visits we tried the blue Hawaiian which I loved and is the perfect tropical drink. The pink bikini was sweet and refreshing. And one visit they had a raspberry lemon drop as the drink of the day and it was delicious but I'm a big fan of lemon drops. Typically spots like this with a nice view tend to have over priced food that is disappointing. While I would say their prices are a bit high, typical of touristy spots, the food and drink is delicious. And the service is always friendly. There is another place in town with great chowder reviews but there was a long line so we decided to check out the second place on our list- Wooly's! It turns out to be a much better location than the other place - right off the pier/beach! With outdoor seating! And no line when we were there! We walked in and placed our order for a couple clam chowder bread bowls. We were given a number and then found a great table outside. It didn't take too long before our food arrived. The first thing we realized was that the top of the sourdough bread bowl was toasted like garlic bread! What a great idea! We really enjoyed eating our chowder by dipping in pieces of the bread - really tasty! We enjoyed our quick lunch here and would come back. We each ordered carne asada tacos $36 total. I asked for mine guacamole-free. No tables available out on the deck, but plenty inside. The tables have lots of space in between, some elevated, a TV with sports on, a bar is separate. We ordered margaritas on the rocks, mine with salt. Food came out right away, the carne asada has a great favor, is good quality beef, properly cooked, no gristle or fat. Lettuce, tomatoes, onions and cilantro all fresh and tasty. So you order first and take your number to a table and wait. Ended up ordering the Steamed Clams and the Fisherman's Platter (not on the menu, but can order any time). Food came out rather quickly. The steamed clams pot was a pretty good portion with a some tasty bread on the side; the fisherman's platter comes with big fried calamari strips, butterfly shrimp, and fish on top of waffle fries. Exceptional ambiance and food here at Woolys! My husband and I wanted to go eat lunch at a super chill spot in Pismo Beach, so we decided to come here. My sourdough bowl was buttery and had a wonderful garlicky taste which made it even better. Yummmmm!!!!
