I enjoyed the food but what stood out to me was the poor service. The lady at the register was rude the moment we came in. I'm big on facial ques. She didn't smile once, as we stood infront of her for minutes and it was our first time eating here she didn't ask if we had questions and I noticed when we walked in she looked at my girlfriend kind of weird. Idk what that's about but likely anyone in the restaurant could do a better job. It's really cute place and I see they put a lot of love and thought into the dishes. And I like how they disclose what's in the food unlike most Chinese restaurants here have no idea there are people who care what's in their food .... But , the beef noodle was way too strong the flavor when I was eating it , it tasted good and enjoyable and the noodle was chewy and fun. But the more I ate it, the more I started to feel this nauseous after effect. I figured it's due to too much sauce . Whatever in the sauce was way too much And the noodles was quite salty. So finally I had to stop eating it. I was feeling like vomiting. I don't want to call it not authentic just want to say maybe something in the noodle was giving a way too strong and salty sweet flavor that makes me feel like I ate something unhealthy ... so no more for me. Fried rice was ok. Not very strong. But still on the salty and strong side. They also gave two complimentary appetizers that tastes really good!! Like what I used to eat in Beijing. Wow. I didn't know what to expect on my recent trip to Woon Kitchen but I have a feeling even if I had high expectations, they would have been met. I love the clean, minimalist decor- it's simple yet pleasant and inviting. The staff is out of this world nice, not a single wave of negative or stressed energy from the moment of stepping in. The menu, like the space, is small but packs a bunch! I tried all of the hits- beef noodles, fried rice, fried fishcakes and *drumroll* the special Off the Menu chicken wings. The beef noodles were my absolute favorite. When you first mess with the noodles you can tell right away they're different than your average noodle- thick, a bit sticky and sure to be flavorful. Before you dive in make sure to enjoy it mamas way by adding white vinegar and the garlic chili paste- start with a little as to not overpower the dish and add more as/if needed! The off menu chicken wings are definitely going to creep on to the menu permanently soon enough because they are AMAZING. 5 spice, crispy deliciousness, I've never bitten into wings with so much meat! read more

Been coming to Woon since they opened, and they are always amazing. Yesterday they were PACKED for Lunar New Year, and the food was still so fresh and delicious, and the staff was working their butts off to get everyone seated and keep everyone happy and fed. This spot seemed authentic at first. I was so excited to try this when I saw the plastic stools and the wooden folded tables placed in the outdoor seating area. The street food aesthetic at this spot is so on point, the set up is so much like the street food vendors in many parts of Asia. My friend and I ordered two veggie noodles, the cucumber and tofu salad, and the fried tofu fishcake. The portions are extremely small. The veggie noodles cost $11, it came in a small bowl. The noodles were very charred and very chewy even for my taste, and I prefer my noodles hard. The taste was flat, all I could taste was fried soy sauce. Other items are also unimpressive. I would have settled for the price and the portion if the flavor was slightly more interesting. Aside from its inauthenticity, I cant tell which group of people this spot could be catering to, consider how boring it is. This is indeed a hip spot, it would be a cute place for a date though. I wouldn't recommend this spot to anyone, not even to my white friends. 0 stars for the food. 4 stars for the staffs, fresh ingredients, clean environment, and the asian street food set up. read more

I feel like I should have at least taken pictures. The aesthetics of the place and the look of the food are quite presentable. However, the price and the taste... as other reviewers have duly noted, it is expensive for the portion. And if you bear any slight expectation of an usual portion of Chinese food, you will be surprised, or bewildered really. The taste, mm, is less justifiable. The beef noodle tastes too salty and smells too fermented (probably the soy sauce used) and the noodle itself lacks any kind of chewiness. I'd describe the texture as if a pack of frozen noodles got thrown into the wok right out of the freezer. The five spice chicken wings taste normal. Normal as in any chicken wings and normal so it's hardly discernable as Chinese. I went in at an odd hour for food, 4 pm on a Saturday, which I reckon could be a factor to account for the taste of the food. It's just, I wanted to like this place, for it being a lovely nook in the neighborhood. Maybe it will get better! read more

My boyfriend and I came here on a Tuesday evening. I think they had like a 2 car parking space in front-both taken, but we easily found parking on the street pretty. We ordered beef noodle, some pork buns, and a cucumber tofu salad. The beef noodle came in a tiny bowl- like an appetizer. It tastes really dry (probably the seasoning) and the noodles tasted undercooked (I don't think they were but it tastes like it was) and had too much seasoning. The pork buns were the only saving grace in this whole meal but I wouldn't come back just for them because I can find better elsewhere (bunshop in la for example). The tiny diced cucumber tofu salad was a joke. The tofu had kind of a dirt taste to it(and not in a good way), this was probably due to the dressing. I could only eat the cucumbers cuz I love cucumbers. While we were eating, I think some of chefs were having their lunch and they were eating this fried rice with egg. It looked so good, I wanted what they were eating. Maybe put that on the menu then maybe I'll come back. read more

One phrase to summarize the place: white people's asian food. We ordered their fried rice, veg noodles, and tofu fish cakes. Tofu fish cakes were the best dish, but they lacked flavor. They weren't seasoned at all but if you dipped it in the soy sauce you'd get some flavor. The noodles were awful. They tasted burned (but also maybe that's the smoky / charcoaly taste their going for?) and lacked bite. They were mushy and nothing else in the dish was really memorable / good. Fried rice was also no good. The rice was a weird blend of white / brown? And tasted more of grains / quinoa than fried rice. The other veggies in the fried rice were meh. The worst part is it seemed like the oil they cooked the rice in was something really light so it tasted dry. Would not return. read more

Fun spot. I had dinner with a few friends on the tiled patio, seated on colored plastic stools in the spirit of street food stands Asia-wide. The three of us ordered the entire menu and loved every moment of it. Noodz were nice and chewy. The beef version was especially delicious. Fried fishcakes were a perfect starter, the pork bao were smushy soft buns against savory pork with pickled vegetables. They had a special fried rice with Chinese sausage in it. So good it made me wish that I'd had a hangover. The interior is nice as well, tastefully minimal and textured where it counts. Also they're open until 11 Fridays and Saturdays. When that beer and wine license comes thru, get ready for this to be the place to be. read more

A great little neighborhood gem! Woon is everything you look for in a little family restaurant. The food is affordable, unpretentious, and tastes amazing. The food is great. You have to start by ordering the chewy noodles, probably 1 order per person or if you want to try all the sides and share then maybe 2 orders for 3-4 people. They have sharing bowls of you want to split everything. They are also very accommodating if you want to order an odd number of items ( the pork bao come in orders of 2). The chewy noodles are the star of the show but everything I had was excellent. I went here two nights in a row. So good! Interior design is also cute and modern. read more

Came here on a Saturday for lunch and had my taste buds rocked. I was skeptical with all the white folks (myself included) working and/or dining but this was one of the best quality food places I've encountered in a while. My review hinges on the food because, while the place was charmingly humble, it was charmingly humble. Also, $11 for a pile of rice... darn good rice but $11. I stopped caring for a while about prices in LA but that care is back. Tried the pork bao as well and fell in love all over again and forgot about the $11 rice. Has outdoor seating and a variety of beer and wine enough to keep a person entertained. Also enjoyed the coffee selection for the early lunch. Known for the noodles, but the fried rice is amazing. Literally can't think of another place with fried rice like it (still thinking about it 24 hours later as I'm writing this review). Comfortably and homey vibe. You can feel the love going into the food here. The fried bao ice cream is where it's at! We tried all 3 so it's hard to pick a favorite but mango-coconut is probably what I'd order again but can't go wrong.
